I guess not being okay with the state of israel commiting serious war crimes against the palestinians, and even killing their own israeli civillians makes others anti simitic to you, yes?
Pretty sure the millions of anti zionist jews don't agree with that. The Jewish faith and the Torah don't agree with israels actions. Killing women and children, apartheid. Theft, taking what does not belong to you and more...
Be ashamed of yourself mate.
Look up the long list of israels crimes against humanity. It is not anti Semitic to be against war crimes. Do you even hear yourself??? Besides the palestinians are a semetic people aswell.. it's israels saying they're going to kill all the palestinians.
I hope you allow yourself to see the truth i really do
First of all, I'm not your mate, I don't know you.
Second, you're just making a whole lot of assumptions about me, and most of them are wrong so I'm guessing you didn't even read my previous posts.
Third, you come here with all this information, and clearly you didn't do any research because you're wrong on multiple fronts
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right of self determination in their own land. Y'know, where we're indigenous from and all that. That's literally all it is. Also millions of anti-zionist Jews? I don't think you did your math correctly. There are 15 million of us, and even if 10% are anti-zionists which would be a very generous guess, that would not even get to 2 millions. So calm down.
"Semitic people" is a defunct term. It doesn't refer to anything anymore. Semitic is only used to refer to languages, and antisemitism refers specifically to hatred of Jewish people.
Israel never said it wanted to kill all Palestinians, you're full of shit. It's also not an apartheid, words have meanings, and that's not it
And don't come in here trying to tell me what the Torah says and doesn't say, you literally have no idea what you're talking about.
Lastly, I'm absolutely against war crimes, on all sides. They should be investigated and punished accordingly if needed. I've said it before and I'm saying it again. But I can tell you Hamas committed many more war crimes, so I'm assuming you want them investigated and punished for it as well right?
Lastly, you coming in here accusing me of all these things without proof is indeed antisemitic, yes. Now if you'd like to have a proper discussion about it, you can come off anon and DM me. Although no anon has taken me up on that offer yet so I don't think you will either
#jumblr#am yisrael chai#antisemitism#leftist antisemitism#lol. lmao even#point and laugh#most of these asks i dont even answer but like#im bored#on the train#the jews are tired

where: outside of aleria bakery & cafe
Stuffing the last of her simit into her mouth, Hazal tossed her trash before walking out of the bakery and into the cold weather, causing her body to shiver. She had forgotten all about how low the temperatures could get here, and now she was remembering yet another reason why she had loved France so much. Who the hell could even function in the freezing cold like this? None of her wardrobe was fitting for this murky weather, and she was in need of a...well, she couldn't call it an upgrade since the fashion here didn't come close to what she was accustomed to, but she did need clothing better suited for the conditions here.
Taking her phone out to try and locate the nearest shopping center on her GPS, she noticed someone coming right her way and decided that it might be better to just ask an actual person, especially if they were a native and could point her in the best direction. "Excuse me!" Hazal called out as they came closer. "Sorry to bother you, but is there a centre commerciaux — shopping mall — around here? It's been ages since I've been in this quaint little town so I'm a little lost, and inappropriately dressed for the Midwest weather, so I could use some advice." She admitted before her green eyes trailed over the person's attire, trying to gauge their sense of style. "Where do you shop?"
#woodsidestarter#threads — hazal.#//i have no idea what this is but it's the best i could come up with right now so love me anyway

Anyway, I highly recommend A Taste of Gold And Iron. A Tumblr style advert for you:
Queer slow burn romance, not quite enemies to lovers, but certainly distain to complete devotion.
Slow burn doesn't do it justice. This book is over 18 hours long at 1x speed. Over 500 pages.
More non-binary representation than you can shake a stick at. Not just one non-binary. Every new character has a 1/3 chance of being çe/çey and there's a whole third gender culture.
In that regard homophobia is not a thing, and sexism isn't. The Sultain is a lady. The head of the guards is a lady. No one comments on it.
The prince is gay and that is as normal as being straight. He's just as likely to marry a man, woman, or NB for political reasons, as nobility do, even though he has a let his sister know his preference. She respects this. This is a plot point.
Everyone is POC, I think? Certainly most of them. The culture is Persian/Turkish/middle eastern inspired so they only white people are foreigners, which we do meet a few, but I can't remember what they were described as.
Captain of the guard is black, in her 50's and WILL kick your ass for looking at her babies (Sultain and prince) funny.
All the characters are amazing and I love them.
Such rich world building. Like you would not believe. There's a big wide world out there and you can feel it.
Conspiracy, political uncertainty. The plot is thick, but there's also so much space for it to flow. Nothing is rushed and it works so well for it.
Mental illness. The main character has chronic and deliberating anxiety, and it is written so well.
Gorgeous description of food. Makes me wish I liked coffee. Gonna need 7 kinds of jam and a basket of simit.
Happy ending. :)

Food discourse like that is a pet peeve of mine because it's natural that groups that have contact even the smallest amount usually has influence on both culinary traditions of both cultures.
Falafel has said to have originated in Egypt by Coptic christians for lent as a meat alternative and was gradually adopted by other cultures who had access to similar food resources. Syrian and Egyptian Jews for example of Ottoman Syria also made the dish.
Food origins can be controversial when they really shouldn't, as cuisines should be viewed as a gradient with no clear boundaries rather than something clearly defined by national boundaries.
Food should be a unifying thing and for centuries people have shared techniques and traditions and built upon them. It makes sense because we learn from each other from a culinary standpoint and food breaks boundaries because who doesn't like food?
I made falafel for a Lebanese cooking class and I have gotten falafel from a wide variety of places run by a large variety of people from different countries Egyptian, Israeli, Palestinian, Lebanese, Turkish, and so forth.
Not once have I thought that one shouldn't have made falafel because of their nationality. And even if you dislike politics of a country what gives you the right to harass someone who's main job is just making their culture's food
I dislike every government to some degree but I won't let that get in the way of enjoying food. I am critical of Erdoğan, but the turkish Family making the delicious simit bagels are not the ones to blame for Turkish government policy. Obwarzanki and Biały come from my country but i am going to argue who's delicious ring of dough is more valid? No, I have better things to do. (technically biały don't have holes and therefore aren't ring shaped but not the point)
Absolutely. Attempting to divide these things into completely clear cut discrete categories and suggesting that MENA Jews are appropriating the food they have always eaten, including dishes that are eaten throughout the region, because they live in a country you don't like is ridiculous. Regional food arguments are as old as food is, but this one is pointless.

State facendo il nostro gioco 😎

I have become SUCH a summer person in recent years 🥰 Amazing what a difference it makes when you no longer live in the bowels of Hell a.k.a. the American South. Notes on these pics go counter-clockwise from the upper right.
1. Me venturing forth this evening in the 34-degree heat to go pick up an Überraschungstüte from a local Turkish bakery. What's an Überraschungstüte? I'm glad you asked. This is not a paid advertisement, but you should all be using the app TooGoodToGo. At the end of every day, bakeries and other food shops that need to make their products fresh every day can sell the day's leftovers cheap through this app. Überraschungstüte means "surprise bag" - you don't know what you're going to get. Today I paid 4 euros and got a gigantic bag of fresh baked goods: five croissants, four gigantic simits, and this lil pastry you see in picture 2. Popped most of it in the freezer, and there's my breakfasts for the next week taken care of.
2. I FOUND THEM. Y'ALL. I found what I've been looking for in Germany for YEARS: heirloom tomatoes. Yes, the lumpy ugly kind that tastes so damn good you'll never want to eat a normal tomato again. Tell me why we bred all the yumminess out of tomatoes merely in order to make them uniformly round and red?! People are strange. Anyway, this was my dinner tonight: a glass of rosé, a fragrant Turkish savory pastry from my Überraschungstüte, and a big fat heirloom tomato chopped up and topped with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and sea salt. Pure ecstasy.
3. My summer drink this year is the raspberry lime rickey. Put a bit of lime juice in a glass, add some raspberry syrup and fill it up the rest of the way with sparkling water. Personally I like to add some frozen raspberries too. It's soooooo tasty and refreshing on these hot days.
4. I adore my Sappho bag. I take it with me everywhere. For those who can't see, it says "Become a voice." It's my very subtle queer rep when I'm out and about.

Κουλουράκια & Κουλούρι For The Virgin Mary
Koulourakia (left) | Koulouri (right)
From a literary work rebuking early Christian heresies:
This one, again, was also brought to Arabia from Thrace and upper Scythia, and word of it has reached me; it too is ridiculous and, in the opinion of the wise, wholly absurd. So let's begin the discussion and description of it; as others like it were, it too will be adjudged silly rather than wise. [...] For the harm done by both of these sects is equal, since one belittles the holy Virgin while the other, in its turn, glorifies her to excess. And who but women are the teachers of this? Women are unstable, prone to error, and mean-spirited. As in our earlier chapter on Quintilla, Maximilla and Priscilla, so here the devil has seen fit to disgorge ridiculous teachings from the mouths of women.
For certain women decorate a barber's chair or a square seat, spread a cloth on it, set out bread and offer it in Mary's name on a certain day of the year, and all partake of the bread
—as I partially discussed in my same letter to Arabia. Now, however, I shall speak plainly of it and, with prayer to God, give the best refutations of it that I can, so as to grub out the roots of this idolatrous sect and with God's help, be able to cure certain people of this madness. — "Against Collyridians,' who make offerings to Mary" in Panarion by St. Epiphanius of Salamis ca. 374 CE. Entire rant by Epiphanius about this sect is PDF pages 656-664, book pages 637-645— Link
The entire rebuke is just hatred of woman and the mere idea of worshiping Mary is silly little woman's folly leading righteous men to the devil; especially because the sect was either women only or women led. But that opinion doesn't particularly phase me I'm more interested in the alleged practice.
Historians debate whether Collyridians ever existed. But at least it gives me an idea— as an evil Mary worshipping heretic— of what I could offer her food wise. I do have to wonder why he would make up that detail if he was fabricating the sect. Since he admitted it was an oral story I assume that it was at least somewhat based on a real thing that occurred, even if it wasn't an "organized sect." Perhaps it was a small offering to Mary within an actual early sect of Christianity and Epiphanius just decided that the offering itself was an entire sect. But that is all my conjecture.
According to wikipedia the name Collyridians comes from Greek Collyris aka koulouri κουλούρι— which modern koulouri is the same as "Simit" which, according to wikipedia, became a thing in the 16th century CE. Whereas koulourakia κουλουράκια, a type of Greek pastry, is apparently from Minoan times according to Wikipedia..... I'm not sure I buy that though. Collyridians existed in the 4th century CE.
Either way according to a word-of-mouth story that St. Epiphanies heard: a "sect", originating in upper Scythia & Thrace, of Arabian woman offered something like the circle bread koulouri or the pastry koulourakia to The Virgin Mary. At least once a year it was set out on a cloth that was spread over a chair or seat, and then eaten by everyone.
I think an offering of any sweet type bread would do— a "collyridian offering". Of course offering koulouri or koulourakia would be best... but gluten.
#mariolatry#biggest issue for me: GLUTEN#marian worship#mary worship#marian veneration#heretic#heresy#saint Epiphanius#Epiphanius#early christianity#christianity#pagan#greek#greek food#offerings#polytheism#side note not really relevant to post:#apparently this is linked to a quran verse#5:116#where allah will ask jesus if he ever told his followers to worship himself and his mother#since the sect is described as arabian#in the 4th century CE#and Islam was founded in the 7th century CE

I'd love some help finding more international news for the archives! Feel free to post whatever you find (and include at least a google translation into English).
Both Italian and English versions below the cut
E, soprattutto, preserviamo i fragili".
Covid, +11% cases compared to the previous week: Xec variant is worrying
Covid numbers are growing in Italy. The cases registered from August 22 to 28 rose to 15,221, approximately +11% compared to the 13,690 of the previous week. Deaths are also increasing, exceeding one hundred. There have been 135 Covid deaths in the last week, 36% more than the 99 of the previous survey.
These are the data from the weekly update on Covid-19 in Italy , published today on the website of the Ministry of Health. The number of swabs carried out at a national level is also increasing, 94,171 compared to 72,266 in the week of August 15-21. The positivity rate stands at 16.2%, it was 18.9% in the previous bulletin.
Andreoni: “Worrying epidemiological situation” "Certainly the growing numbers of Covid, including deaths that in the last week have reached 135, are a cause for concern because we are in a period of the year in which the circulation of the virus has never been particularly significant. In view of the autumn, a change of direction is needed, the circulation of the virus will be more significant and the epidemiological situation is worrying because the vaccination campaign for Covid has not yet taken off". Thus Massimo Andreoni , scientific director of Simit, Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases and full professor at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome.
Pregliasco: “Beware of the Xec variant” Unfortunately, Covid is still among us, with an undulating trend also depending on the onset and presence of variants. This increase" that is observed in the numbers of the virus in Italy "could be the effect of the latest Xec variant", a new entry that is on the rise globally, "and has a diffusion and immunoevasion capacity that appears to be high".
The data, at least as far as the number of cases is concerned, "are certainly underestimated". Many of these "are trivial, and there are perhaps also many asymptomatic people who maintain the chain of contagion".
This is the analysis of virologist Fabrizio Pregliasco who comments on the progress of the Sars-CoV-2 contagion in the country.
"It is true - underlines the director of the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine of the State University of Milan - that this is a pathology in most cases is trivial, that for a young person can be approached with anti-inflammatories. But we see it from the rising numbers of deaths, it is a problem for fragile people. The message is therefore for them and for the elderly: in the presence of respiratory forms, even dubious or non-specific, do a swab anyway, at least for them, to be able to take antivirals. Today there is Paxlovid which avoids the most severe effects for fragile categories".
These growing data, concludes Pregliasco, "also serve to remind us of the importance of the vaccination booster in the fall, always and above all for the elderly and the frail, both for the anti-Covid and the flu vaccine. Today, in short, is still the time for attention with respect to what may be risk situations. And, above all, let's protect the frail".
Ciccozzi: “A trend we need to get used to” Epidemiologist Massimo Ciccozzi also commented on the infection data: "Infections and deaths from Covid-19 on the rise? Everything is normal, this is the trend we have to get used to. The basis of the growing numbers is the increased movement of Italians and tourists in transit in our country. Those leaving or returning from vacation do so by traveling by plane or train, consequently there is greater circulation of the virus. The only protection against contagion is the mask that, unfortunately, no one wears anymore".
"Fortunately the symptoms are less severe but - warns Ciccozzi - not for the elderly and frail who are more vulnerable and severely weakened by the heat and who must be protected". The epidemiologist has no doubts: "In October it will be necessary to get a booster vaccination for Covid and influenza, especially for over 70s and frail people", he concludes.

Cookbook Thoughts: Turkuaz Kitchen by Betül Tunç
Partner gave me a copy of this for Solstice (2024) which means it had to go on the cookbook list this year. The list will get too long otherwise!
I was pre-pandemic more of the baker between Partner and I. Then Covid-19 hit and Partner got into sourdough breads, then started making other breads too. It's about 50/50 now, and I am excited to try doughs and bakes from an area of the world I haven't cooked much from.
I am having somewhat of a mismatch in expectations and reality with this one: there's recipes from all over, including French pastry dough, when I was expecting a book containing entirely Turkish dishes. That said, there's still a lot in here that I'm excited to bake and cook. So many desserts...
Khachapuri — (cheese and egg bread)
Ciabatta
Spinach-Artichoke Stuffed Garlic Knots
Pitas — (we have a pita recipe, but it's a little mid, so we're making this one and seeing what we can do to improve. maybe it's just using this one, maybe it's combining the two)
Creme Brulee French Toast with Vanilla Sauce — (I was told if I didn't make it, Partner would)
Swedish Cardamom Buns
Pistachio Rolls
Bienenstich (German Bee Sting Cake)
Pumpkin Scones
Vegan Lemon Blueberry Scones
Zucchini Cream Cheese Biscuits
Spinach-Mushroom Deep-Dish Quiche
Tahini Cookies
Brown Butter & Sage Gnocchi — (I'm not sure, but I think I already have this. I'll have to page through my collection of recipes to check)
Simit
Lahmacun with Onion Salad
Turkish Pistachio Baklava
Grandma's Lavash
Poğaça
Su Böreği (Water Börek)
Feta Hand Pies
Kalburabasti — (cookies drizzled in syrup)
