barely awake as your pet begs for attention, and he says it with that sleepy raspy voice whispering right into your ear…and you’re just so proud of him for actually sleeping and staying in bed instead of being a workaholic that you get up and take care of it so he can stay cuddled under the blankets. Lion King is one of my favorite movies, of COURSE I know that scene!!! Little kitty being Chan biased is so amazing of her, I hope she wins a fan call one day 😭

Ohhh I can see it so well, your pet hops onto the bed, a cute little thing you both decided on adopting as a step toward the little family you've always talked about late at night, before starting the little sounds and actions of needing attention.

At first, you're ready to pass it off as a momentary thing but the little baby is NOT giving up and that's when you feel the arm around your waist tighten.

You can't even fault Chris for both wanting to get up, especially given the fact this was the RARE time he went to bed early with you - so, you huff out a tired laugh and wiggle your way out of his arms.

"Alright, alright, I'm up." Scooping your fur baby into your arms, you spare the sleeping man a glance, "We're both coming for you when the sun's up."

And as if to make a point, he snuggles himself deeper under the warmth of the blanket.

Okey dokey I have seen both 'Sonic 3' and 'Mufasa'! I have less experience with Sonic as a series overall, but I really enjoyed Sonic 3. I do want to talk about Mufasa though! TLDR Had a really fun time with it, they improved on this issues put forward by the 2019 CGI remake. If you like Simba's Pride you'll probably like this new Lion King movie!

I've been in Lion King fandom for a *long* time, it's the nearest and dearest piece of 'furry awakening' media to my heart. So I am saying this with an obvious heavy bias. I've liked or loved most Lion King media released with the exception of 2019's CGI adaptation, which I was not a fan of in the slightest.

Mufasa makes improvements on my criticisms from the 2019 adaptation. It's a new narrative, the animal characters emote, the voice performances are much much better and it feels less 'homage, look how cool the old movie was' and more 'earnest sequel/addition'.

Mufasa and Scar have never really been my focus of interest regarding Lion King cast personally, but I came out of this movie really enjoying their characterization. It made them a lot more rounded as a duo while still staying true to the core characterizations put forward in the 1994 film. Especially Scar's by the end. Music was fun! It was *very* Lin Manuel Miranda, which can get a little old. But 'Ngomso' is a great opener, another banger by Lebo M. Personally this was my favorite number. I only wish it was a little bit longer, but I know it's probably trying to lead into the 'Milele' number.

Sarabi is an old favorite character of mine personally, so I was thrilled to see her get some characterization. I think the chemistry between her and Mufasa was really great, it does a good job standing out from the other TLK main couples (who I also adore) I know some people find Taka/Scar's interest in Sarabi being such a catalyst in the narrative annoying but I think it's pretty fitting. It's an established dynamic fairly early into her introduction to the group. Taka is spoiled and made to feel entitled by his father and uncles, he clearly views Mufasa as owing him his life. It's more the straw that broke the camel's back imo than the ONLY reason he's angry at Mufasa.

Speaking of which, I liked the added element of Obasi 'banishing' Mufasa to go live with the lionesses exclusively and upholding the very binary 'lions do this, lionesses do that' dynamic. Scar pushes against it slightly in his youth, but ultimately repeats these mantras when he's King.

Eshe was my favorite new character introduced. The relationship between her and Mufasa, and her and Taka. It's got a lot of meat to it I think.

Kiros and his lionesses were really fun villains. I like the establishment of the 'Outsiders' concept. Akua and Amara were great supporting personalities, I love them. I was happy to see that Kiros had more motivation to pursue Mufasa than just 'I want everything under my control' with the element of seeking vengeance for his son, Sachu. Can't wait honestly to see everyone's 1994 styled iterations of these characters. Mads was great casting for his role. He fits with the rest of the TLK villains cast perfectly.

I only have two areas of 'ehhhh' for me. I did not care for Timon and Pumbaa's characterization and the amount they interrupted the story. They felt very disingenuous, I didn't enjoy it. I also think Mufasa's mother Afia living at the end was not a choice I would have made personally. I thought it would have been more narratively impactful to have her and Masego BOTH 'live in him'. But that aspect is more of a personal nitpick than a real flaw honestly.

I have more thoughts obviously, but this is all I could really put together the day after the movie! Overall, recommend if you're a TLK fan in the same vein as me.

-I really would have liked to see more monitor lizards in the series. Not to mention their relationship with the crocodile characters

DDLV: Character Ranking

I was on Facebook this morning, and since the most recent update a lot of people have made their own personal “character ranking”. I have seen lists like this before, but not for a long time so I decided to jump in! 

Let me start the body of this by saying, this is my personal opinion. I would love to have a conversation if you would do this rank differently, but a respectful conversation please. My personal bias, I prefer older Disney, and have a huge thing for Villains. 

With the most recent update, at the time this tumblr will have been posted, we have yet to receive some foreshadowed characters like Simba and Nala. This ranking was done based on characters within the Disney Dreamlight Valley game, not so much on the characters in general. But one’s view on the characters in general is the basis for it in some ways anyways.

A/n: unplanned, but this is just in time for Haknyeon's birthday! Happy birthday to Haknyeon, my tbz bias and the sweetest boy!

When Haknyeon enters your apartment with his arms wrapped protectively around his now-bulging sweatshirt, you knew something had to be up.

When the bulge begins to wriggle around and let out tiny, shrill squeals, you knew he had brought in the one thing the apartment complex owners said not to.

A pet. And not just any pet, it seemed.

As Haknyeon carefully removes the small animal from under his sweatshirt, he has one of his signature grins on his face. He holds it out to you, cradled in both hands. "Can you hold him while I take my sweatshirt off?"

"Hak..." Your attempts to keep a disapproving look on your face are failing as you reach out and gently take it from him. "A piglet? Really? You know the rules about pets here!" A small giggle leaves your lips as you cradle it to your chest, rubbing your index and middle fingers between it's ears.

"Well it's a good thing I'm just visiting, huh?" He tosses his sweatshirt onto the back of your couch, leaving him standing in his black and white T-shirt and jeans. "I'll take him back home with me when I leave, I promise! I'd hate for you to get into too much trouble because of this." You give him a playful glare as you say "you better", but there's no malice in your gaze or voice.

"So! What's this little guy's name?" The question barely makes it out through your laughter, as the piglet has started snuffling around you. A soft nose grazes up and down your forearms, the sniffs tickling your skin.

Haknyeon beams at you as you hand the piglet back to him. "This is my son!" Haknyeon declares proudly, holding the piglet up as though he were Rafiki holding up Simba on Pride Rock. "His name is Ggul!"

"I can certainly see the family resemblance" you quip through suppressed laughter.

"Hey!" He sets the piglet on the ground and clutches at his chest dramatically. "You wound me!"

You hold your hands up in surrender, laughing as Ggul trots around your furniture, carefree and happy. "All I meant by that is it's obvious that cuteness seems to run in the family!"

A warm tinge of pink coats your cheeks as you realize what just fell out of your mouth, and it's reflected on Haknyeon's face as well. He reacts first, shoving your shoulder with an embarrassedly quiet "shut up!"

To break the atmosphere, you decide to crouch down and play with Ggul a bit. Haknyeon crouches down next to you, and you play together with the little pink bundle of energy.

For being a piglet, Ggul acts pretty similarly to a puppy. He runs between you and Haknyeon in laps, making squeaky noises every so often. You remember that you have some baby carrots in your refrigerator, so you go and grab them. Sitting back down where you had been, you take a carrot out of the bag and toss it over near Haknyeon. Ggul immediately zeroes in on it, and all but falls over himself to get to it. You and Haknyeon can't contain your laughter, and Haknyeon keels over, holding his sides as he laughs at Ggul's antics.

You and Haknyeon take turns tossing baby carrot pieces back and forth for Ggul. After about a dozen rounds, he trots to a stop and simply lays down. You almost panic, but a small snort and a tiny sneeze let you know that he's just fine.

"Ahh," Haknyeon muses, "I think we wore him out!"

You chuckle a little and prop yourself back on your arms, looking up at him, since he's kneeling just in front of you.

"Want something to eat?"

He grins back at you, "What kind of question is that, y/n? You know me!"

You both head to kitchen, leaving Ggul laying on the carpet in a tired little heap, snoozing away. You pull some fruit from your refrigerator and put the carrots back, then grab a couple bags of chips from one of the cupboards.

You open one of the bags and lean against the counter. You're really glad you asked Haknyeon to come over and catch up. It's been a while since you last saw him, and he always makes hanging out so much fun. The two of you lose track of time as you crack jokes and chat, just content to be with each other having fun.

The relaxed atmosphere surrounding you and Haknyeon is suddenly broken by a squeal from Ggul, coming from the living room. You look at each other, then the squeal comes again, sounding more distressed this time. You rushed into the room, Hak hot on your tail, and you begin to look.

"Ggul?" Haknyeon calls as he looks under a cabinet. You begin to inspect the chairs for any sign of the baby piglet. You begin to call for Ggul too, as it becomes more evident that he's not where either of you are looking.

You both jump and whip your heads around at the sound of Ggul's squeal - though still muffled, it's much louder than before and it seems to be coming from the couch.

"How- how did he fit underneath my couch?" The question comes out incredulous and disbelieving, and for good reason. The gap between the couch and the floor is tiny! Nevertheless you go and crouch by the arm of the couch. You can hear shuffling noises coming from underneath.

"Ok Hak, on three I'll pick up the couch and you reach under and get Ggul, sound good?" He nods in response, readying himself.

"Alright. One... Two... Three!" You push yourself up from crouching, holding the couch up at an angle. You look down and see Haknyeon dive under. A second later he emerges with a slightly dusty looking Ggul.

"Well," you gently lower the couch back to floor, "I guess he wasn't ok alone for a minute after all! Is he ok?" You cross over to them, watching as Haknyeon carefully brushes the dust and the odd cobweb off of Ggul.

"He looks ok, from what I can see," Haknyeon responds after a couple seconds. "I'm sorry buddy, I shouldn't have left you alone!"

"Don't go blaming just yourself," you scold him lightly, "that's on both of us! But hey, look, he's alright. In fact, I think he's falling asleep on you!"

Sure enough, a closer look at Ggul's face shows his eyes closing ever so slowly, and with a tiny sigh, they shut completely. His breathing slows and evens out as Haknyeon rocks gently from side to side.

You continue your conversations from earlier, now in hushed tones, for a little while longer. You idly pet Ggul while listening to and telling stories, and Haknyeon does the same. Occasionally your fingers brush up against his as you stroke Ggul's ears, and each time, the corners of your lips curl upwards a little more.

Soon enough Haknyeon sighs quietly and shifts himself to stand up. "Ggul and I should probably get going..." You pout a little, but give a half-hearted agreement. He laughs and grins at you. "Don't worry y/n, I'll make sure to meet up with you again soon!"

You smile at that, and give Ggul a few last little pets. Then you give Haknyeon a somewhat awkward side hug, trying to avoid squishing Ggul between the two of you.

"Alright then, Hak. See you soon?"

"Definitely, y/n, see you soon!"

Looking through the reviews for The Lion King (2019) and I’m getting so annoyed. Most of them can be broken down into these talking points:

The film looks great; visually great, the photorealism makes you feel like you’re there

Stays close to the original in story and direction

The original was better

And I’m just like????? This isn’t actually helpful.

Seeing the trailer, we already knew how it was going to look, so waxing on and on about that does nothing for me. I can see that from the 1.5 minuets of footage released already.

I wasn’t expecting them to deviate too much from the original. Mufasa was not going to survive, Scar was not going to win. Simba wasn’t going to end up with anyone other than Nala. They was never any doubt in my mind that they were telling the same story.

But mostly, I’m just so over this critic bias of comparing one movie to another in reviews. Like, I wanna know how X is, I don’t care how it is in relation to Y, even if it’s a remake/original scenario. You are doing a review of a movie, not a compare/contrast essay for sophomore year Language Arts class. Stick to the task at hand and tell me if the movie holds up on its own.

Been reading reviews for Tolkein and a couple of other films - all of them are so cold and negative. Made me realise that I can't remember when I last read a positive film review. Anyone could do it - just sleep through the film and then write a load of ignorant, uneducated bullshit. (I'm not kidding, there is one on twitter complaining that Simba in the upcoming Lion King isn't bright yellow despite the fact that it is obvious that the film has tried to keep the animals realistic looking)

I’m so glad you brought this up. You’re not even wrong, you’re spot on, everything you said I’m not even kidding was what I was complaining to my friend about the other day. It’s not even just that they’re so uneducated but they’re so bias and desperate for clicks they’ll say whatever just to ride the media hate-wave. Whatever the media whines about, they’ll jump on board. A lot of reviews are overly sensitive too, not to mention they mix so much self-projection garbage into it, I don’t even get it, like are they even reviewing the film, or are they talking about their own issues and outlook on life and projecting it on a film? It’s as if I’m reading a blog, not a review.

My brother and I always make fun of this one critic, her name is Rachel, she was hating a lot of the Marvel films and then even hated on Shazam that new DC film and then me and my brother were like, okay, watch she’ll praise Captain Marvel. We go check her review for Captain Marvel, and behold, perfect score, and a bunch of irrelevant rambling that has nothing to do with the film!

I can’t stand Rachel.
