Occasionally going through 1950s music (and earlier) to add things to the playlist that functions as the shuffle bag from which I pull chapter names for this fanfiction and I am constantly reminded that I am a big stupid slut for 1950s rock music, despite myself, why did nobody ever tell me that Dale Hawkins’ “Susie Q” fucked so hard

#I’ve only ever heard the credence Clearwater revival version until today #how a band that is ostensibly considered More Rock than 1950s rock toned down the sound is beyond me #actually no it’s not #fuck CCR #it’s not a good band #the only one of them whose post-CCR music doesn’t make me die inside is Bob Seger #and even him!! he only gets a pass once or thrice #night moves was good until everyone in my family learned to play acoustic guitars and tried to all play the song together at once #on their acoustic guitars #at which point I had to acknowledge that they sounded like the eagles #turn the page is good #better than the Metallica version by a large margin #old time rock and roll also #otherwise no thank you #hey while you’re here with me under the floorboards you should consider listening to old Johnny cash #I was under the impression that the majority of his hits came out in the sixties but no #he’s a 1950s man through and through #and boy howdy now that I know that the chapter titles are about to be chockablock with his music #I got real into Johnny cash in high school #not the weirdly Christian songs because gross #but my dad was deployed and all I had was his music collection and there was a lot of Johnny cash #and man has like four songs but all the songs slap #love that shit #did you know that shel Silverstein wrote the song a boy named Sue #anyway good morning #I am supposed to be sending out faxes

okay i'll be the first to admit that Silverstein's lyrics are EXTREMELY hit or miss, but 'The Artist' is an absolute flawless masterpiece from them, even to this day

the lyrics are SO. GOOD. like, good gods 😭

#it's my blog and i'm rambling about my old favorite screamo band today okay #do you know i met Silverstein when i was like 25 but in the picture i look like i'm like 14 #also my brother's ex-girlfriend took the photo and she had the flash on so we all have red eyes #but i do have a picture of me with Silverstein #and a bunch of signed stuff from them #including a poster i won from Myspace when i was in like 10th grade #they personally chose me from the comments on their page and i was so happy 😭💜
