KHBLWLQOFVYIQVIFAIBAFS; YOU KNOW HOW IDIA HAS THOSE MOMENTS IN-GAME WHERE HE'S STUNNED BY HOW NATURALLY PRINCELY SILVER IS đ€Ą LIKE IN GLOMASQ AND SILVER'S CEREMONIAL ROBES VIGNETTES??????? ? ?? ??? ? ? ?? ? BUT SILVER IS JUST CONFUSED AND THINKS THE BEST OF IDIA ANYWAY???? ? ? ??? ? ?? ? ????? Well, at the AX panel... when asked "who would you want to be stuck on a deserted island with", Silver's VA said IDIA. Why? HE BASICALLY SAYS IDIA WOULD PROBABLY BE USELESS AND JUST WANT TO STAY IN HIS ROOM đ "but desperate times call for desperate measures, so maybe this time Idia would actually do something!" ADSHLADVSOVYQEFQFVBIEFLBADIGHOIYAFSP WHEN EVEN THE VA THINKS SO PURELY ABOUT IDIA......... . .. ...... .... . ...... . Buddy, he is going to pass out from being outside for too long/j
This part was definitely the highlight of the talk show for me excluding maybe the part where the VA said Silver is so cool, so awesome, just like a prince!! đ You... keep on being you, Silver and Nobunaga-san... sharing the same single brain cellâŠ

how muscle is the boy and who the most buff because i think silver gym clothes is lying
Hello hello! Thank you so much for this question! I have been hoping to talk about this for so long âïž
There is something special about the school uniform and gym clothes cards đ
Summary 1) Sprites do not always visually represent what is actually happening in the game 2) Yana does not have full control over what can appear as sprites 3) Yana illustrated the gym clothes and school uniform cards from start to finish by herself!
Details/Sources 1) There is sometimes a disconnect between what the sprites are doing and what is actually happening in the stories, as the limits of the medium mean that they can only portray so much.
We will be told via dialogue that what is actually happening is different from what we're seeing on screen, which is where the "novel" part of "visual novel" has to do some heavy lifting.
(above: We are told that Idia is riding Ortho, Jack has tanned and Kalim is wearing glasses, without anything represented visually.)
This is also true of Silver being unusually well-muscled, with characters referencing such repeatedly! (especially in Book 7, for spoiler-reasons that cannot be shared on this blog)
(Ortho: "Silver is also incredibly built!")
In a vignette Silver explains he was able to beat a man in an arm-wrestling contest who had successfully beaten several "burly" members of Savanaclaw:
"All of Ruggie's burly friends had tried, but each lost within seconds. At first the owner went easy on me. Worried he would hurt me, he said. But once he realized I was no pushover, he stopped holding back...It was no easy feat, but all their encouragement helped me eke out a victory."
As for how Silver can possibly be so well-muscled, he explains it is from life with Lilia:
"I've never really struggled with anything involving physical fitness...my daily life back home was training enough. Drawing river water, chopping firewood...Chasing around the animals who lived nearby must have helped strengthen my legs as well...once I stalled while climbing a sheer cliff, and (Lilia) climbed right up beside me to show me how it should be done."
2) In a tweet posted on 2020/5/12 Yana talks about submitting her idea for Crowley to be wearing a vacation outfit in Book 4, despite expecting it to be rejected.
So it seems that she does not have complete control over how the sprites look: she designs the characters but is maybe not doing the game development work of physically implementing them, and there are others who can approve of or reject her ideas based on in-game limitations.
Was a canon-accurate Silver sprite maybe one of those rejections?
Effort was even made to give Silver muscle in the 2nd anniversary PV, so it does seem to be an important point.
3) We do not know too many details about the team that is helping Yana with card illustrations but we know they have been there from the beginning, with the recently released English-version of the first visual book (called "The official art book" in English) providing translations of Yana's notes to the colorists for the ceremonial robes and labwear art.
(Above: hand-written notes seen on Kalim's labwear and ceremonial robes base art)
She also references a graphic artist in her 2020 interview for the Magical Archives:
"As for the illustrations, this was my first time having my original drawings cleaned up by a graphic artist. I am a very rough draftsman by nature, and I make overall corrections before a piece is complete. No matter how careful I am in my original drawings, sometimes details get confused, so whenever I receive a draft back from the graphic artist, I become a useless original artist who is constantly going back to say, âI am so sorry, but can you please make these corrections?â" - Toboso Yana (Magical Archives game guide)
But the gym clothes and school uniforms (the original batch of R cards) were different: Yana says she did them all by herself from start to finish, as they were going to be most people's first introductions to the characters.
Disney Twisted-Wonderland has been released today. ă»Character design ă»Main scenario creation ă»Card illustration (all rarities / including finishing for the R cards) ă»Supervision of personal scenarios (writing several as well) I handled everything above. I hope you enjoy it! - Toboso Yana (Twitter, 2020/5/8)
I felt that the initial R school uniforms and sportswear cards are special, as they are likely to be the first introductions to these characters, so I was in charge of them all. I am grateful to have been trusted with them. - Toboso Yana (Twitter, 2020/4/13)
So there we are! đ„ł
If anything we can maybe consider the base card art for the gym clothes and school uniforms as more "canon" than the sprite designs of those same characters, even though the sprites are what we're used to seeing, as card art is not being forced to change the characters' appearances in order to fit the limitations of Live 2D sprites âïž Maybe!
(The sprites have this same issue with height! At 156cm Epel maybe only comes up to Malleus' elbows? But in the game Epel is made taller while Malleus is made shorter, in order to fit his horns in the screen.)

As a good Sebek kinnie (/nsrs bc I don't label myself), I have a notebook on all the Diasomnia members (it's pokemon!!). It's very empty, I'm ngl
Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts about them so here's my potentially daily diasomnia facts and tidbits! (I tell you things I observe and sometimes they're on the wiki)
These are coming from the vignettes (that I own which is lacking in Sebby and Silver) from an American player (so, no spoilers!!)
Number 1: Sebek is a crocodile fae!! It's not stated outright (I don't think Lilia being a bat is either, now that I think about it) but it's heavily hinted. Still, it took me way too long to realize that. He's got the bite, the appetite, the hair, the strength, and the stupidity (/j, he's silly) The most damning evidence is being called a crocodile by both Floyd and Rook.
Number 2 (bonus!!): Sebek loves helping people. He's a shit about it, but he really enjoys it!! I'm not sure if he loves helping people because he's Malleus's retainer or he's Malleus's retainer because he loves helping people. Maybe it's having people depend on him over helping people, but that sounds a little weird. Still just like me fr
Anyway, my evidence for this comes from his Apple Pom vignettes. He spends the whole day chopping wood, running errands, etc. for the elderly folk! As well as generally wanting to help Lilia and Malleus (in his Lab Wear vignette, he volunteered to clean Malleus's lab coat even though Malleus or Lilia could magic the stain away)
Number 3 (extra bonus bc I can't stop yapping!!): Malleus was isolated in his castle for the majority of his like (by majority I mean until he went to NRC). In Silver's Ceremonial Robes vignette, he says Malleus wasn't allowed outside without a "cadre of guards." So, if you've ever wondered why Malleus needs guards, it's because he's had them since he was little. Silver also says it'd be a big deal if something happened to him.
I think that's a very important detail about him that's easy to overlook (ik since I overlooked it)
Anyway, I'll shush now so I have some facts left over!!
#twisted wonderland#diasomnia#silly ramblings from a man who spent a week reading and annotating all their diasomnia vignettes#I'll probably have to digitize these notes bc my handwriting is ass#I keep writing âsoldierâ as âshoulderâ smh

Hi! I have a question about Diasomnia's signature wands/batons. I was wondering if it was ever stated why they don't use magic pens like the majority of the other students. Especially Silver: did they ever say why he uses almost exclusively the baton? Sebek and Lilia at least use magic pens in their school uniforms (also gym and lab uni, I think), but Silver only uses it in his ceremonial robes (at least for his base cards)
There is currently no official explanation as to why Diasomnia is the only dorm with a unique variant of the magical pen (by way of their batons). Note that not just Silver, Sebek, and Lilia use them, but so do all the mob students if you take a look at their belts:
Liliaâs baton is not visible in his full-body Dorm Uniform model, but we see him wielding it in the initial artwork of his Dorm Uniform SSR.
Similarly, both Dorm Uniform Sebek and Dorm Uniform Silver are shown with their batons in the initial arts and their Groovies. Together, their poses imply the capability to both attack and defend with this particular model of magical "pen" (baton).
My best guess is that Diasomnia gets batons because they are the magical âall-roundersâ at NRC. Theyâre special and therefore get a design that no one else does. Itâs similar to how students in certain programs or of certain statuses like honors (in this case, dorm) get exclusive perks that other students may not. This seems to be just a cosmetic change though, not a significant power boost or something of the like.
You could also say maybe the baton design is to go with the theming of the dorm being bodyguardsâbut if thatâs the case, then how come none of the other dorms, who also have their own themes, get their own designs?
As for why Silver appears most frequently with a baton instead of a magical pen, there doesnât seem to be a clear explanation given for that either. (I did go back and check permanent pool cards; all Sebek and Lilia cards besides their Dorm Uniform use the magical pen; they only use batons in their Dorm Uniforms. Silver, however, only uses his magical pen in his Ceremonial Robes; all other times he uses the baton.)
At first, I thought maybe it had something to do with the vignettesâlike maybe he uses the baton on the associated stories? But that wasnât the case. He isnât even using magic in a lot of them, so there wasnât a correlation there. In the Ceremonial Robes vignettes (the chibi model with the magical pen), he even whips out the baton (which freaks Idia out), not the pen. This results in a mismatch between what is shown in the vignettes and what the chibi sprite shows. So really, I donât think there is a special meaning since the gameplay elements (the chibi sprites + cards) donât always match well with the stories that come with them.
Maybe if we push it, Silver is just most prominently associated with the baton because he is the most âknightlyâ one of the group? He is also depicted receiving a new baton from his father in his Birthday Boy Groovy, so the connection has been strong since the earlier days of TWST.

Hello, I'm not sure if you've explained it or not but going in the depths of Malleus and Leona's character relationship? Like explaining their interactions and how they actually think of one another
Many fan works tend to depict Leona and Malleus as extremely antagonistic toward one another. However, the truth is that their relationship is more like a one sided dislike or annoyance (on Leonaâs part). Itâs not uncommon for them to bicker or have some tension in their conversations even when they have the same goal in mind such as protecting a harp (Beans Day) or wooing a ghost (although Malleus is not participating for the latter, Leona still insists the ghost would prefer him to Malleus to get that dig in). Theyâre definitely still on bad terms), but Malleus is generally pretty neutral with Leona unless he is provoked.
Leonaâs beef with Malleus is story relevant and makes itself known in book 2. He appears to primarily dislike Malleus because it is thanks to his sheer power that Diasomnia crushes Savanaclaw every inter-dorm tournament, essentially dashing Savanaclaw studentsâ hopes of being scouted and going pro. Buuut it seems like from the way Leona speaks about his rival, he has long since held these feelings and they arenât linked to a single inciting incident.
Part of why Leona dislikes Malleus in general seems to be Malleusâs attitude. Leona describes his fellow prince as âpretentiousâ, âhigh and mightyâ, and acting in ways that show disrespect to him (like in Malleusâs Dorm Uniform vignettes, when he casted a spell meant for objects on Leona). He may also take issue with Malleusâs âincomprehensible fae humorâ, which Leona references both during Halloween and in Malleusâs Ceremonial Robes. Additionally, Leona outright states that he hates people who refuse to listen (Silver) and just march to the beat of their own drum (Rook), which are traits you can argue also fits Malleus (since Malleus didnât really listen to the upset dorm leaders in his Dorm Uniform vignettes). Leona appears to prefer dealing with Malleus to Silver though, as he says that Malleusâs ears arenât just âfor showâ. Interestingly, Leona might dislike Malleus less than Rook; Leona is wary of so much as wishing Rook a happy birthday and refuses to dine next to Rook⊠yet Leona does sit next to Malleus at the end of Terror is Trending.
Leona is one of the few students who isnât afraid of Malleus and has the gall to openly insult him (or is rude) on more than one occasion. He doesnât really show any remorse or intent to apologize. In fact, Leona understands very well what bothers Malleus and often acts on those points of weakness to goad him, whereas it is very rare for Malleus to start the fights. For example, Leona tells Malleus in Malleusâs Ceremonial Robes vignettes, âYou thinkinâ youâre gonna get it next time? Well, sorry to break it to you, but no oneâs ever gonna invite you,â and, âYouâre never gonna have a chance to wear those robes, so putâem away for good already.â This, of course, angers Malleus and leads into the two insulting one anotherâs physical features and exchanging threats (removing horns, declawing, calling each other animals or implying a lack of humanity, etc.). They similarly insult one another in Terror is Trending (again, Leona instigates: âHmph, look at Mr. High-Horse over here. Were you flattered to be asked [to have your picture taken]?â) and again in Fairy Gala (Leona again: âEver consider gettinâ off your tail and cleaninâ up your fellow faeâs mess?â). Iâm sure there are tons of other instances you could come up with; these are just the immediate ones that come to my mind. Leona is also resentful about the idea of ever asking for Malleusâs help. Heâd rather ask anyone else, even Malleusâs second in command, than ask the guy himself. Funnily enough, Lilia and Silver see these heated conversations as proof of Malleus and Leonaâs friendship. I feel like this could also, in part, feed into Leonaâs dislike of Malleus, as people having the wrong idea about your relationship can be irritating.
Now, Malleus does appear to care about maintaining amicable relations with representatives of other countries. Often it is he who instructs Sebek to apologize to Leona for being rudeâtwo major instances of this occur in Malleusâs Ceremonial Robes vignettes and during Vargas Camp. He even personally (and happily) welcomes Leona to Diasomnia in his Ceremonial Robes vignettes, viewing Leona as no different than any other guest.
This goes into the realm of speculation (so please bear with me!!) but it could be said that Malleus has a very⊠unique view of friendship? So Lilia and Silver may not be too far off when they say that Leona and Malleus are chums in their own weird way. In Glorious Masquerade, Rollo poses a real threat to Malleus and to his peopleâyet when Malleus experiences genuine fear for the first time, he seems more excited at the novel feeling rather than cower as a result of it. Following the climax, Malleus still presents the song he had prepared as a gift of good will for NBC. He also proceeds to play with Rolloâs guilt to get him to agree to sharing a dance. And THEN Malleus says he looks forward to being invited again????? These are all quite friendly gestures for someone who put you and all your people in danger, my guy⊠đ So perhaps Malleus just gas a very different way of approaching friendships? Hard to say, but thatâs some food for thought!
Leona and Malleus have had moments of amicability, so itâs totally possible for them to get along. This happens primarily in Leonaâs Union Jacket vignettes; in them, Malleus gifts the birthday boy an antique book in an ancient language (Leonaâs best subject). The two then talk about enjoying the freedom of walking around town without an attendant or some servants trailing after them. Being of a similar social status, they are able to understand one another to some extent.
This is going into another point of speculation, but I wonder if Leona and Malleus recognize their similarities beyond this interview. I certainly have; theyâre both arrogant princes that deeply desire what the other prince has, and I feel that their animosity, in part, comes from this realization (whether conscious or unconscious). I certainly get the sense that some of Leonaâs hatred of Malleus comes from seeing his own desires manifested in himâof being that coveted prince praised for his power, his people lavishing him with affirmations, a crown⊠All the things Leona doesnât have.

Hello hello! Long time follower!
I really like reading all your translations, theories and fanfics! It's really great to be able to read your thoughts about characters and cards because am a f2p so I have a very limited stash of gems to pull lol
So I was thinking about the rrcent jp update and I went back to read some of your work on Scarabia. I'll admit they weren't amongst my favorites before so I haven't paid too much attention to them. I was wondering then about the couple times you've said Jamil is well off? Maybe it's from one of his SSR cards of his home event, but I can't remember where he or maybe Kalim implies that?
That's it, just a silly question thanks so much for all that you do, I love so much all your theories and thoughts about the lore and the cast! Have a good day!
Hdsbskwhsk Iâm glad that my blog brings you joy and makes your free to play experience more fun đ€© Thanks for sticking with me all this time!
As for your question, Iâm not actually sure if there's dialogue which explicitly states the Viper family's level of wealth. I couldn't find any when I combed through, so I had to go off of implications and my own interpretations of those. From what Iâve gathered, I see the Vipers as upper middle class, or at least middle class with a LOT of benefits (the benefits being present boost them to upper middle class due to the lifestyle the benefits afford them).
So firstly, I think there's a lot of debate surrounding Jamil's family income. Some fans seem to think that the Vipers must be destitute due to their position as servants and Jamil's disdain for how the Asims throw around their money and influence. However, perceived social status or class does NOT always equate to being low income. There are people irl who are technically "servants" and "hired help" that make a significant salary while working for much wealthier individuals. There is data for bodyguards, private chefs, executive assistants, and skilled nannies who earn six-figure incomes and/or excellent benefits working for celebrities, politicians, businessmen, etc. (Notably, guarding, cooking, scheduling/planning, and generally looking after Kalim are all a part of Jamil's duties.) Real world examples of this include employees of the White House and the British royal family.
Now, that all depends a lot on the type of people the employers are. There are many wealthy families who mistreat their staff and/or don't pay them well. From what I've seen of the Asims though, I definitely feel that this is not the case. To begin with, the Vipers don't just do one task for the Asims, they do a LOT. You're already aware of the constant work Jamil has to do around the clock to keep Kalim safe and satisfied, but his parents must do the same. They're described as experts in hospitality and are frequently hosting and entertaining guests from all over Twisted Wonderland. This is skilled labor, and that demands commiserate pay. Not only that, but Kalim describes his father as someone who is very generous (and the guy has plenty of money to spare). I donât see why Mr. Asim would purposefully skimp on specifically paying the Vipers.
I would also imagine that the Vipers are afforded other benefits. Jamil has said many times that he has to look or act a certain way, as his behavior/appearance reflects on the family he serves. Therefore, the Asims may provide other things Jamil and the Vipers need to âlook goodâ and to best represent and serve the Asims. This could mean food, clothes, transportation/travel expenses, education (like additional training, manners lessons, certification exams, etc.) all paid for on the Asim familyâs coin. Jamil has mentioned that his parents gave him lessons in everything heâd need to know in order to serve Kalim, so this tells his parents are also well-educated and/or were at least able to pay for lessons for Jamil. And these lessons arenât ânormalâ lessons either, it includes things like formal bodyguard training (youâd have to pay for this irl) and formal table manners (which most of us arenât taught unless we seek it out).
We also recently learned in book 7 that the Vipers live on Asim property, which is very luxurious. Jamil states that his family would be on the streets should they lose their place serving the Asimsâand this could be interpreted in a very literal sense if we think of as losing the roof over their heads. Yes, it's technically not land or housing that the Vipers own, but it is still free high-class lodging, nonetheless. It is a benefit that is afford to them (among others) because of their job(s), similar to those real life examples I mentioned before. One could make the argument that none of this wealth truly belongs to the Vipers. However, you could also argue that because these benefits come with the job, it technically is theirs as long as they keep their job (which is, in fact, how jobs irl work; if you stop working for an employer then naturally youâll stop getting the benefits that come with that job eventually). Itâs complicated. I suspect that, at the very least, part of the reason why the Vipers donât want to depart from serving the Asims is because they donât want to lose the pay and the perks that come with their work.
I want to add that the Vipersâ position also gives them the unique advantage of exposing them to tons of important individuals. They are able to meet and connect with these VIPs when most people could never even dream of meeting them, even if just from the viewpoint of a servant. Itâs a similar to Lilia and Silver, who technically are not rich (money-wise) but still have ties with majorly influential people (members of the Draconia royal family).
Obviously, the Vipers still arenât as rich as the Asims and probably will never be, but I believe they still enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. We never see Jamil worry about money or being short of it. He gives his VDC/SDC earnings away without batting an eye, unlike Deuce (from a single-parent income family) who keeps the money since it would really help out his mom. He doesnât have to work a ton of odd jobs to make ends meet (unlike Ruggie). But Jamil does haggle and act frugal. I think that behavior comes from not a genuine need but Jamil being mindful and planning ahead to avoid being scammed. Heâs shown to be a cautious individual who often is the one putting the breaks on Kalimâs extravagance, so I feel the skill also comes partly from having to be the one to curb his ridiculous spending and bring Kalim down to earth. Jamil is still the type of person who would tell Kalim when heâs buying too much or overdoing things, even when itâs not Jamilâs own money being spent and he knows Kalim can afford it. Thatâs what leads me to believe his frugalness isnât necessarily the result of him being low income and âneedingâ to save. If that were the case, he shouldnât care if Kalim throws his own money at buying diamond jewelry for all the dorm members as souvenirs.
I think the closest metric we have as a frame of reference for how wealthy Jamil is comes from the Tapis Rouge event. In it, Jamil forks out 500 thaumarks (or 50000 madol) to buy a jacket. He remarks that the price is fairly expensive but good quality so itâs worth it. Whether you consider this an indicator of his low or high wealth is really all relative to what your own perception is. Jamil had also previously remarked that what the Mostro Lounge charges is absurd. In Ruggieâs Ceremonial Robes vignettes, Azul quotes the price of one soft drink as 4 thaumarks/400 madol. Jamil responds with âFour? Talk about a markup.â It should be noted that the latter example doesnât mean Jamil cannot afford a drink of that price; heâs complaining about how expensive Azul has made it to capitalize on the high demand. Do with this knowledge what you will.
Anyway, those are my thoughts! I hope I was able to explain myself well. If you have any thoughts, please feel free to express them ^^

book 7 part 11 thoughts! (nov 22nd update)
***THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR BOOK 7 PART 11 OF THE MAIN STORY!!*** This spans part 192 to part 211, covering Jack and Ruggieâs dreams. You can see my comments on Leona's dream here!
Please note: this is NOT meant to be a summary or a translation; these are only my initial thoughts on the events that roughly unfold. There may be details overlooked or misunderstood in this post, so PLEASE do not use this as a translation.
xbsbdkshwkw AZUL FAINTED WITH HIS EYES OPEN FROM THE FALL⊠This guy keeps taking the Ls early on in this update cuz he also got reminded that Idia recorded him in his own dream shouting âKRACKEN SHOTâ which is very embarrassing.
Silver and Azul are able to change into their school uniforms without Idiaâs incantation. Apparently Silver mastered the magic of changing clothes because he was so often oversleeping for class and had to prepare quickly for them. This shocks Sebek, who has yet to master this kind of magic. (Maybe itâs also a consequence of him being a first year?? đ)
They briefly discuss how Silver looks like a prince when heâs riding his horse; Azul saw him in a Magicam cut of the Equestrian Club. Previously, we knew from Riddleâs Ceremonial Robes vignettes that the brown horse he rides is named Vorpal. Here we get confirmation of Silver and Sebekâs horsesâSamson (a white horse, sharing the same name as Prince Phillipâs steed) and Tempest, respectively.
LMAO Idia complains about how athletes get so much attention, meanwhile nerds like him arenât ever given that or fawned over or called princes. IDiA W3 gET IT⊠YOU COMPlAIN AbOUT CHADS đ
They have landed in front of the gates of NRC and run into Jack there. He seems to be rushing to the colosseumâŠ? Letâs follow him!!
OKAY
OKAY
OKAY
JACK HOWL YOuâRE oN MY ShiT LiST OTL YOU KNOW Ehat tHIS GUY DREAmed ABOUT???????!!!?!?!!?! Itâs the year after their instaloss to Diasomnia in the interdorm tournament (donât ask me why Malleus and Leona arenât off at their internships at this point, dream logic I guess???). Dream!Leona has gathered all odds Savanaclaw in the colosseum to train so this year they can take Malleus and beat Diasomnia head-on, no tricks. HE EVEN GiVES A N OPTIMISTIC SpEECH AbOUT THE POWEr oF TEAMWORK TO RALLY EVERYONE⊠and declares heâll be the next âkingâ đ Such overwhelming confidence⊠JSCK DRWAMED Of a DORM LEADER thAt PLAys BY THE RULES AnD IS đŻ ConFidENT IN THEMEKvESâŠ
Grim is so grossed out seeing this version of Leona that he wants to wake Jack up right the fuck now đ
AzUL YOU ASSHoLE???? He acts all fake surprised about âthe incidentâ that happened at the intetdorm tournament and like bro had no part in instigating that stampede.
They start to formulate a plan to wake Jack up, but are worried about dream!Leona since Leona irl is a very strong mage, the darkness posing as Leona could be even stronger than usual. But at the same time we canât risk casting a spell thatâs too strong ourselves or it might call Malleusâs attention. They suggest to use Azul as a clincher since he would theoretically have access to all the magic he stole irl in the dream. Surely one of those could help?
Jack scores against the defense, Ruggie. While the Savanaclaw students are going over his play, Yuu and friends stroll up (including Idia vis a full body projection). Grim tells Savanaclaw theyâre Team Ramshackle here to play them!
Ruggie says thereâs no point; their team is made up of weaklings! But then Azul gives his OWN speech about how Octavinelle and Ignihyde are always dead last in magift tournaments and this time they really trained hard because they wanna be better đ„ș and besides, isnâg magift a game of wits and not brute magic/physical strength??? This catches the attention of dream!Leona who agrees to the play. He considers fellow dorm leaders worthy opponents, and also had a bone yo pick with Sebek and Silver. (Also??? Sounds like Ignihyde got their asses beat by the Pomefiore team in this yearâs interdorm tournament.)
HEKP THIS mAn HEâS SuFFERINNNNG đ Azul is really out of it so he calls for a time out. Idia takes this opportunity to make fun of him again for being tired now when he was the captain of Golden Trident in his own dream. At least Sebek is nice and offers Azul some water.
Sebek messes up and the frisbee goes out of bounds?? WYat THE FuVk dream!Leona goes over and helps Sebek up after heâs fallen⊠âOh, so Jack has made a senpai he can truly respect.â âOh, the REAL Leona wouldnât do something so noble like that.â GROSS GROSS GROSS GET IT OUTTA HERE đ€ą
Oooh, interesting?? Ortho reasons that when youâre excited, youâre more likely to be influenced by emotions when making decisions; theyâll take advantage of the exercise high everyone on to break through to Jack. He and Jack end up flying out to space as theyâre squaring off in magift; when Jack realizes how far he has flown up, heâs shocked. Donât they need oxygen to breathe here?! Itâs here that Ortho reveals this is all a dream to him.
Jack is so shocked by the news that he wakesâand then falls out of the sky?! Silver immediately runs to protect everyone. Idia uses the Dream Form Change to forcibly swap Ortho to his Cerberus Gear and Jack to his Dorm Uniform, which help to cushion the blow of their crash landing. Then dream!Leona comes over to check on Jack and decides to bench him.
The darkness tries to deceive Jack, but he actually punches back and refuses to be tricked. bcdbbsksks He cries a little and goes on about how he was so inspired by watching Leona play on TV heâd watch it over and over⊠only to be disappointed by reality. Jack goes a little overboard though, he starts attacking US too, thinking weâre fakes as well.
Jack quickly comes to see reason and stops trying to deck us. Sebek still seems salty at Savanaclaw for what they tried to pull in book 2 and again reminds Jack of those injustices, saying he wonât forgive them. To his surprise, Jack admits wrongdoing and says itâs only natural some people would still hold grudges and choose to not forgive them. Sebek is so shocked by the fact that honest people like Jack exist in Savanaclaw. Aw⊠babyâs having his prejudice challengedâŠ
Mentioning this for the Jack lovers: Jack pets Grim on the head and praises him!
LMAo????? Jack grabs Silverâs arm to travel with them and is shocked by how it looks slender but actually you can tell he has trained a ton by feeling it!
They land in Sunrise City in Sunset Savanna. Everyone tells Jack about Dream Form Change, which he says is a spell that looks like itâs from an anime his kid sister watched before. Jack has a had time saying the spell because he finds it embarrassing, but heâs eventually goaded into it (especially by Sebek, who tells him to chat it with his whole damn chest).
Beastman lore!! Apparently beastmen are considered a genus and all beastmen come from Sunset Savanna; over time, they migrated to other parts of the world, especially to some colder locations northward. Jackâs family is included in this, as well as Sebekâs. His grandfather apparently used to live in the wetlands of Sunset Savanna. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how different their individual practices and beliefs⊠they have common roots.
While theyâre admiring the statue of the lion prince in the center of Sunrise City, they notice no hyenas are among the gathered animals. They suggest that maybe the statue was made before the King of Beasts united all animals; the hyenas used to live in their own place called the Land of Shadows.
They review some Sunset Savanna lore, including how difficult it is to unite beastmen of different kinds and how there's a pushback against development due to many beastmen wanting to respect nature. Sometimes the disputes can become violent, and it's all over the news. SHOCKINGLY, Idia has a moment of clarity and realizes that this must be why Leona chose the internship he did at a mining and energy company đ
Everyone begins to suspect the dream is Leonaâs but right then Ruggie rushes by them, declaring that heâs late for school. Jack is surprised that Ruggie is in glasses because in Savanavlaw he would brag about having good eyes.
Ruggie cuts through the market to get to school on time; he seems friendly with the folks and many of them offer him free food. Jack remarks that Ruggie is seen as a hero in his hometown, so maybe this explains the NPCsâ behavior. Apparently he is also an honors student in this world.
Anyway, Ruggie arrives at Ivory Cliff! It seems this school doesnât exist irl; itâs only in Ruggieâs dream. Most of it is beastment, and over half are hyenas.
Grim watches Ruggie and mobs A and B eating food and leaps in to get some!! (Azul apologizes and lies that Grim is his familiar, lol) Sebek chides Grim for doing this, but then his own stomach growls, giving his own hunger away. He of course denies his hungerâbut Ruggie says itâs okay and invites them all to eat!! The local children come to their campus just to have food too. Ivorycliff Academy was built in honor of the three hyenas who served the King of Beasts. They used to be do starved that they could cry, so the school is dedicated to feeding the hungry in the spirit of solidarity.
BRUH đ YOuâRE KIDDING ME⊠In his dream, Ruggieâs dad never left him⊠He came back for his son with a fortune he made from working. Ruggie also bought a new car for his granny and never has to be hungry again. Jack wonders if it is really right to take away happiness like that, but ultimately he decides he doesnât want to see his senpai living a false reality.
Ruggie shows them to a school donut stall with all-you-can-eat toppings. He dumps everything onto a single donut and calls it the "Ruggie Special". The owner drops the lore that in the universe of this dream, apparently LEONA built the school.
According to donut lady, Leona graduated last year and came back after graduating to strengthen his country. He has established several schools and even magift teams. Among young people in the Sunset Savanna, Leona is supposedly also more popular than the crown prince.
Ruggie runs off to class and we stay behind to eat. Donut lady turns to darkness and attacks us, so we beat it back.
Everyone thinks it will be hard to wake Ruggie since he has never met Leona in this reality and doesnât have any memories of NRC, his club activities, etc. There isnât much for him to emotionally react to.
WHAT THE HECK is this a Mufasa movie reference in Twst đ Ruggie and some mobs talk about a sequel (thatâs a live action prequel, I think??) about two characters who are enemies but were actually friends in their youth. Or maybe theyâre just talking about some other Lion King prequel Iâm not aware of???

Azul tosses coins of different values which attracts Ruggieâs attention. He has the unique ability to tell the value of a coin just from the sound of it, a skill which Azul learned about from observing Ruggie when he worked part-time at the Mostro Lounge.
Anyway, Ruggie tells mobs A and B to go home without him so he can hunt the coins in peace.
Azul carelessly tosses 500 madol (~5 USD) into the fountain. Ruggie wants it so badly he dives in and starts digging around wildly in the water for the coin. AND AZUL JUST KINDA STANDS THER E TAUNTING HIM LIKE, "OoOOoOoOoh you want that coin so badly, Ruggie, your body moved on instinct BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF, BE GREEDY, GET THAT COIN" (NOT AN ACTUAL TRANSLATION, but in the spirit of what Azul actually says).
I assume this is what the Ivorycliff Uniform Ruggie groovy depicts... Bro's tripping and having a cosmic experience all because he spotted A COUPLE DOLLARS.
Nooot sure how to feel about this as a narrative device. On one hand, it's funny and definitely demonstrates Ruggie's shamelessness. On the other hand, I can see why some may see it as distasteful or humiliating because Ruggie is already so destitute irl and yet here they are using him scrounging around for a few dollars as comedic bit.
Mobs A and B return to check on him. Ruggie starts obsessing to them about how you can buy extra or fancy food like the shrimp gratin set for 500 madol!! Which confuses the mobs because all the food at Ivorycliff is free.
On instinct, Ruggie starts reciting what I assume is true of NRC: basic buffet foods are free, but extra foods are an extra cost⊠uniforms are free but if you ruin the first set then you need to pay for extra ones⊠etc. Ruggie points out that Ivorcliff uniforms are sucky anyway, with a light color like this, even a little bit of dirt stands out! Night Raven College uniforms are black, so itâs so convenient! Wooow, what a callback to book 2 đ Ruggie complained about the RSA uniforms being hard to clean back then tooâŠ
We beat the mobs up~
Ruggie falls ot his knees and has a good little cry đ but then he recovers and says heâd better be paid a good hourly wage for all this trouble cnbdjssbjsks He agrees to join us because âWell, I wake up Leona-san every day so this is literally no different than my usual routineâ though he also admits his success rate is like 60-70%.

PAUSE TO STARE AT RUGGIE'S CRYING FACE BECAUSE WHAT THE HELL I FEEL LIKE I'M STARING AT A KICKED PUPPY
And soâŠ! Theyâre off!!
This update ends up Ruggieâs dream concluding. Next time (on the 29th), itâs time for us to wake up Leona!!
asdbkhlfbyofqeyg80eg8qegppf OKAY. I WAS NOT EXPECT THIS AMOUNT OF LEONA GLAZING IN THIS UPDATE đ€Ą Like, GOOD LORD was there a lot of it... I sort of expected it in Jack's dream since he idolizes Leona, but I was not expecting it to come up in Ruggie's dream too. Even though it doesn't seem like Ruggie has met Leona in the universe of his own dream... the dream world still created lore about how Leona successfully graduated and made the decision to come back and better his country, especially for the destitute hyenas like himself đđđ WHICH JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT EVERYONE IN LEONA'S DORM RESPECTS HIM AND BELIEVES HE CAN LEAD THEM TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE IN THIS ESSAY I WILL--
ASDBKLHABIYOFAYFQEIBAF STFU ME, THIS UPDATE ISN'T ABOUT HIM.. .. . . . ....... . . . ... . .. . . . . . . LET'S TALK ABOUT JACK AND RUGGIE.
I think this update was one of the funnier ones by far. I'm on Grim's side, it was very unnerving to see a helpful, reliable Leona that plays by the rules and is a good sportsman... but at the same time, it's only to be expected of Jack. Since book 2, he's made it clear he looks up to his dorm leader and wants to be able to put his faith in him. It was nice to see everyone acknowledge how a Leona that doesn't hold back is a genuine threat and how this is the version of him that Jack wants to see realized. It's cute how Jack has this pure want to play with Leona and wants to see him as an idealized leader... Definitely puppy-coded behavior.
Something else I really appreciated about Jack's dream is the logic that went into waking him up. It was really a tag-team effort by Azul and Ortho and, unlike previous updates, I felt like the previous OB boy's presence was a Nothing addition to the cast and didn't contribute much. But Azul uses his smooth talking to convince dream!Leona to play against them, and then Ortho isolates Jack to knock some sense into him. I liked that Ortho, the robot, used cold, hard facts to reason his way to a situation where Jack was more likely to react with strong emotionality. Azul becomes useful again in Ruggie's dream, where he single-handedly wakes the guy up with some spare change he had on hand www
The exchange between Sebek and Jack was great, but I wish it had been extended... It feels like they added it to help with Sebek's character arc of overcoming prejuidice about non-fae, which is fine! But I think it should have been carried over into Ruggie's dream (in that section where they talk about different beastmen in the savanna). Like... it would tie together so well if Sebek had a moment of just "............." in indicate that he's thinking about what was just said, about how different beastmen, despite their differences, all originated in the same place. It would show us that he's slowly realizing, little by little, to accept non-fae.
I think Jack attacking us was an interesting beat to include, especially with all the theories swirling about how the Savanaclaw update will be the one to shake up the formula. Perhaps this is a preview of what's to come in Leona's section??? It proves Ortho's point that you're more likely to think and act with your emotions leading you rather than logic if you're already hyped about something. (In Jack's case, he was still coming off the caution and the high of beating back dream!Ruggie and Leona.)
I felt very similar to Jack in Ruggie's dream, doubting whether or not it was morally right to rip someone away from their happiness--especially considering all that Ruggie has gone through. Little guy was so devastated to find out the truth too... When I think about it, he's gone through so much tragedy in his life. His mom's dead, his dad left him, he grew up destitute and having to scrape by, he had to get LITERAL GARBAGE (depicted in the manga adaptation) to survive some days. It's no wonder why the people in his hometown call him their hero, it's a miracle that he lived this long and managed to get into a prestigious school. I think Ruggie's dream also highlights that he's not JUST greedy because he's greedy. Ruggie clearly cares about other people living well too (something alluded to early in book 4), because why else would Ivorycliffs casually offer free food to everyone and anyone? Why else would he spend tons of cash to buy his grandma stuff? He's thankful for what he has and wants to give back to the community that supported him. The supportive community is also generally reflected in his dream, specifically the market he passes on his way to school.
Ultimately, I do think it's for the best that Ruggie was roused awake because um... HEY, THE WORLD IS GOING TO END. Coming to that conclusion also speaks a lot about Jack's character: above all, he values honesty, even if the truth hurts. Excellent carry-over from book 2 (where he was the whistleblower), honestly.
One thing I wished they had expanded on was the relation of hyenas to other beastmen. Itâs implied they are second class citizens, but itâs never clearly stated why that is other than âoh they live in a place that lions didnât ruleâ. I would have liked more historical context for that discrimination; it would have helped to flesh out the world.
Overall, liked this update a lore more than the previous ones. I donât know if I can still say this after the second part comes out (because Iâve usually had the most criticism for how the OB boysâ dreams ate handled), but so far Iâm surprised by Jack and Ruggie (in a good way). Fingers crossed for the 29th! đ€
