Second Fanbinding Let's Goooooooooo

The fic I bound this time is Return to Me by @peasantswhy a lovely Glorfindel/Erestor work set in Imladris and Gondolin <3

This binding has some distinct aspects about it that I would like to point out. It was bound with a French Link stitch as apposed to my usual Coptic, its fly pages were not only dyed by me but I also handmade the paper itself out of cotton a few years ago, and all the typesetting was done in Affinity Publisher instead of Word.

Since I used the French Link stitch for the spine I glued the covers onto the fly pages to attach them and while I think this looks nicer than having the stitching come up through the cover (like what happens with the Coptic stitch) I do feel that over all the signatures are a bit looser, which I don't love.

And here are just some pictures of the book's interior. I really love the different flower of each chapter type and how the headers and footers on each page turned out. Overall, binding this fic was a lovely experience and I can't wait to do it again <3 <3 <3

I made a fanbind of the incredible Anastasis by @chthonion!! This fic series is truly something special, and even on my first read I knew that I wanted to bind it. This was also my first bookbind where I fully felt like I knew what I was doing, and I'm incredibly proud of how it came out!!

The Silmarillion Rewrite. Always fun to play with lord of the rings & inspired works-- they just have a certain kind of old fantasy book vibe which I tried to honor here.

The gift recipient finally got the book, so I can post pictures now!

We took inspiration from the actual Silmarillion cover design, and from the first edition copies of The Hobbit.

It was a fun project!

I did it! It's done, my very first fanbinding :D

Thee illustrious @tethysresort allowed me to bind their fic Paper Lanterns which is a lovely Glorfindel/Erestor fic and I adore it and was overcome with the desire to hold it in my hands, and here it is! At long last!

I am extremely please with how this book came out, it fits well in my hand, is a lovely weight, and the cereal box I used for the overs isn't nearly as floppy as I feared it would be. I was planning to use blue floss for the stitching (because blue is lovely) but I am so glad I looked around until I round a red that almost perfectly matches the red on the cover ahhhh I am just so pleased!

I started this back in January but the type setting and printing was just so awful and convoluted that I gave up for months, until April when I able to finally format my pages properly thanks to my dad (below the cut you can see all my printing attempts vs how the final fic, it's ridiculous). And then I only started making the covers a few days ago so it really just came together all at once.

With my leftover floss I made a little loop which can be twisted around the corners of the book to keep it closed, which is a great use for the leftovers that I otherwise would have thrown away.

All in all I am sooo happy with this binding! There were a lot of bumps on the way, but I'll just have to make sure to take what I've learned here and apply it to my next project!

My first bookbind!!! This is a back-to-back bind of call it peace by simaetha and fractal by Ias. I fell in love with how these two time loop fics foil each other, so I bound them together as a quarto!
