Time for the sixth continuation of the Suwako Takeover! It's a Silly/RuneScape Cover! Someone reblogged my previous Silly Cover with some advice on how to make them sound more like RuneScape, so this one may sound a little different than the others. The most important thing to note here is that the Silly Covers are going to be slowed down from now on, instead of the usual sped up. Despite never playing OSRS, I think I got really close to the music style with this one!

"Pfft don't I know it." Eli made a face at that knowing Laurel was Queen of denial. "You'd be getting me to actually do my cardio. Though there are other ways I can think of that are a lot more fun to get our cardio in." The exaggerated gasp brought an eye roll out of him and laughed. "Whatever. There's no difference anyway. You already steal all my clothes. If I threw your pashmina away then you'd still not be one to wear it." He wouldn't deny when she stole his clothes and paired them with those shorts that he didn't linger briefly. He reached out with his index finger to grab at her tongue and pretended to snip it. "You better. I expect to be wined and dined."

He shrugged knowing that it wouldn't be so out of the question. "You got your work cut out for you there. I dislike people when they're too close. I've made peace with my single life. I'm just wishing for yours too. Can anyone else really provide what I do? I think not. No one is this funny."

He kept eating his dessert and took a bite out of hers giving her a sucker look. "Perk? The only one I can think of is that you can see the sunrise and sunset from my window. Also no traffic sounds. You're gonna want my room aren't you?" He squinted his eyes at her just making it hard for her for fun. If she wanted it she'd have it. "It's also closest to the laundry room."

"Could be," she shrugged in thought. "My denial is usually pretty strong." It was meant to be a teasing comment, but the evidence was there from previous experiences. "Lucky we joined the agency instead then. Imagine that. Me, a criminal mastermind. You'd be chasing me around the world." There was an audible gasp, albeit, an exaggerated one. "Throw my things away? You wouldn't dare." She knew he was just messing with her, and over time, they had become pretty good at it. "Whatever though. You throw my pashmina away, I'll just take all of your hoodies. Since you'd basically be leaving me with nothing." Playfully sticking her tongue out at him before her smile returned and she nodded in agreement. "I'll definitely owe you dinner after all the move-in work. But, yes. Let's do it. I'll even get us some fancy dessert for the night too."

Her laugh couldn't be contained, shaking her head at his comment. "Romance is totally my thing, hadn't you heard? Well, you're not running in the other direction, so that says something. Wow wow, praying on my romantic downfall? Low blow. Maybe I should hope for the same."

Laurel watched as he picked the first dessert of today's...lunch, snack? Something along those lines. "Right, I forget. You won't ever get tired of dessert, so maybe you're sillier. Left or right side, are you talking dessert or rooms? Because if dessert, I'm taking the right one with the caramelized fruit. And for the room, I thought I'd just take the empty one. You're already settled into yours, come on. I wouldn't kick you out. I'm not that mean. Well, unless there's some crazy perk to your room that I should know about, then maybe."

Ich bin ein MoF - ein Mensch ohne Freunde. Ich pflege diesen Umstand das ganze Jahr über sehr sorgsam, indem ich Verwandte möglichst nicht besuche, bei Anrufen nicht abhebe, Freundschaften versanden lasse, Verabredungen oder Feierlichkeiten im letzten Augenblick aus zweifelhaften Gründen (meistens Krankheit) absage und allgemein nicht der Typ bin, der auf andere zugeht. Soziale Aktivitäten jeglicher Art sind für mich einfach unglaublich anstrengend, weil ich mich dann die ganze Zeit verstelle.

Naja, jedenfalls gibt es scheinbar immer noch Leute, die mich trotzdem lieb gewonnen haben. Die rufen am Geburtstag doch tatsächlich an! Heuer waren es sogar 3. Auf die Frage "Warum wollen heute alle mit mir telefonieren?!" erwiderte mein Mann lapidar: "Du hast Geburtstag!"

Und so sehr ich mich über diese Telefonate ärgere und über jede eingegangene Nachricht mit Glückwünschen (es ist eine Zumutung, antworten zu müssen), bin ich traurig, dass es jedes Jahr weniger Gratulanten werden. Silly me...

What are some things to look for with accounts that post a lot about their pet pigeon? Like what can I look for to be sure the pigeon is being treated properly and not being abused/stressed for views? What are common questionable things you see accounts like those doing?

That is a REALLY good question, thanks for asking!

My take here probably won't be comprehensive, but I will at least try to give you a starting point to go off of.

Here are some red flags in pigeon social media content:

1. They have cross species content. A pigeon should not be interacting with any other species besides people on video. Nor in real life, honestly, but we're talking social media crimes. No other birds- not even ringnecks- and CERTAINLY no mammals. It's dangerous.

2. This can be a little tricky for the less experienced, but watching how someone interacts with their pigeon is key. Do they force interaction? Do they respect their bird? Is this light-hearted teasing that the bird doesn't mind, or are you looking at a freaked out animal? Or a freeze response? If you're not sure, ask around for opinions you trust on behavior. Sometimes it is the only way to make learning leaps.

3. Stupid decision making. You will probably know it when you see it. Bringing a pigeon outside with no harness. Talking about the freedom of birds and how they need to free fly outside. If it Seems like hawk bait, it probably is. (I don't mean that they do this on purpose, they don't. They are are in utter denial about deaths by hawk and their ability to prevent them by simply keeping their birds contained)

4. This one depends, but if you ever see content of a pigeon being held so that the general public can pet it without it being able to get away - usually a bad sign. I saw this connected to a very small rescue once and it was pretty appalling. These are touch adverse animals - you can't do that. And on that note-

5. Any form of advocating for 'struggle-cuddling', or holding the animal still until it stops fighting you, is a HUGE no. It is one of the fastest ways to learned helplessness, and also for some reason rampant advice in this fucking community. I'm bitter about it, obviously.

6. They shit on all breeding. It's not necessarily a sign of neglect but trust me, these are not people you want to be around.

Now, some GOOD things to look out for:

1. Excellent housing. You want to see a wider-than-tall space with a lot of solid perches not caked in 3 inches of gray-green cemented poop. Poop happens. They are birds. It gets dirty. But the cement is neglect. That took time.

2. They interact with their birds respectfully. Even if they might get a little silly with them, you won't see these birds getting squirrely and shying away. Consent does matter here.

3. They have primarily ethical breeds. The range of ethical is pretty wide here. But something like an extreme modena or extreme MOF (modern old frill, NOT the same as the classic old frill) might still show up in a regular loft, and that's okay. They need a home.

4. If they breed, they have some kind of plan. You might not even see it, but occasionally breeders will talk about what they want to do with their breeding project. And their plan shouldn't be fucking stupid. TRLs plan? Stupid. That isn't how breeding Works. So, someone with a brain in their head about this stuff.

5. Someone who is willing to euthanize an animal. Making a creature continue suffering through amputations or other surgeries that are too extreme for it... It isn't ethical. A pigeon can't survive long term with only one leg. We know this. Anyone who is trying to pretend differently is perpetuating suffering.

6. Someone who socializes any baby pigeons properly. That means no hand-raising, no people imprinting. Parent raising. Socialization techniques vary and most are valid.

7. Care more about the bird than the content they make. The bird shouldn't be a toy they force into situations for views.

Generally, just try to pay attention. Don't be afraid to ask someone you trust about what they think of an account. It can be hard to break out of the little echo chambers that start to form, but thinking critically about stuff like that will absolutely help you in the long term. Exposing yourself to better information and cutting off the bad stuff will advance you a lot farther.

A real quick body language lesson for you, on how to tell if a pigeon is comfortable.

A pigeon frozen in place, refusing to move, is not a happy pigeon. Their eyes may get wide and tight, their posture may be slightly tucked in and hunched. It can be easy to mistake them as a little sleepy if you don't know what to look for.

Sleepy don't look like that. Sleepy is loose posture, puffy feathers, squinty eyes, fluffy forehead, raised foot. Some or all of these.

Another sign of discomfort is more active defense. It might look like display dancing, but this bird is telling you to fuck off. They tend to dance and hop around more trying to avoid you, their necks will be stretched out really tall, their heads will dart around, they will interrupt themselves mid-coo to run away.

These are birds who are confident enough to tell you to go away, but still freaked out. I saw a video from a prominent rescue last week of such behavior where someone was "playing" with this poor guy who was totally boxed into his rescue crate with nowhere to go.

Pigeons need an exit route during intense interactions with us. You can't box them into a corner so they have nowhere to go.

A pigeon that WANTS to wrestle or what have you will not flinch away from you like this, or freeze like a rabbit. If you are wrestling and you pull your hand away, the pigeon should run up to your hand again if you offer it from a distance. If you are petting the pigeon, the pigeon should lean their head down, or groan, or nesty grunt, or puff their feathers up, or try to preen you!

now granted, concealed the conclusion (whose conclusion i have just unconcealed and am about to continue unconcealing for you) was a semi-reasonable game to make at its time (2006). there was speculation about gensokyo all being someone's dream in PMiSS (released at the same time), the butterfly dream schtick in CoSD. making the main character reimu as a terminally ill child is very very silly when the point of reimu is that she's not in control of anything, much less the entire world (but works of that time loved to overstate reimu's importance, so you know. some people even thought that gensokyo would be destroyed if she died, in actual canon).

the problem with it (besides some rather dreadful mischaracterizations that didn't even fit with the limited canon of the time) is that it then stuck around in the consciousness of touhou fandom in the west for a decade, far, far longer than it did on side JP. and good god it stuck around too long on side JP too- it is a distinctly pre-MoF game (early windows vagueness is a death knell for fanon) yet people were talking about it seriously in 2015, when i started hanging around on shrinemaiden. and even after that, for a good while! it only really started falling off in 2019-20.

oh and also it had some really bad music remixes.

I feel like popular Touhou fanon is split between the Old Bad and the New Bad.

The Old Bad: flanderizing everyone to be lolrandom silly with character traits they don't even have, ignoring PC98 aside from Mima and maybe Shinki if you're lucky, ignoring the print works and post-MoF stuff almost entirely to uphold the first handful of Windows games only, upholding Gensokyo as a paradise and taking the games' chill vibes at face value without wanting to look deeper, yuri as a purely obligatory function of a percieved lack of guys with no real love, kind of a weird blend of performative worship for and actual dismissal of ZUN's vision, in general a gross sheen of 4channer detatched irony to play off any sincere positivity.

The New Bad: flanderizing everyone to be edgy and toxic with character traits they don't even have, ignoring PC98 completely, largely downplaying the games to uphold the print works only, upholding Gensokyo as a grimdark horrorfest stuffed full of cannibalism and refusing to accept any validity to the games' chill vibes, lots of Hashtag Toxic Yuri full of mind control and manipulation with no real love, kind of a weird blend of performative respect for and actual approppriation of ZUN's vision, in general a gross sheen of condescension and rigidity and rejection of fun or "what if"s that aren't needlessly edgy... and still an undercurrent of detatched irony as well somehow.

I get the impression that the second is probably a response to the first, but it strikes me as just as misaimed. Maybe I just haven't been into Touhou enough the past few years to get a feel for where it's currently at or something, but what I remember from when it was my hyperfixation, from taking in every piece of media, game or print, that was available (and translated) at the time, that there's some middle balance between tonal extremes that ZUN is actually shooting for, but neither of the main Fanon interpretations wants to aknowledge for some reason. Everyone forgets that most of the time Reimu is whimsical.

Trying to fix your lipstick by kissing mof Jon

You and John sat on the couch next to one another as he read. You had pulled out a small hand mirror and were attempting to apply lipstick. Unfortunately, had smudged it quite a bit. You sighed in annoyance at your reflection when you suddenly got an idea. You turned to John, he practically had his nose in the book and hadn't noticed your small struggle. You kissed him on the cheek then looked into your mirror. Your lipstick was still smudged. He turned his attention to you with a sweet smile and kissed you back before returning to his book with his arm around you and his head leaning against yours. You kissed him again a few more times. He let out a few small giggles. He looked at you as you looked in your little hand mirror.

"What are you doing?" He asked with a warm, but amused smile.

"I'm trying to fix my lipstick smudges while also giving affection." You turned to look at him as you closed the mirror. "You're so adorable in more ways than one, I just can't resist." You admitted with a smile. He felt as though he had been wrapped in a warm blanket upon hearing your words. You continued to pepper his face in kisses, making him giggle and smile more.

"May I try?" He chuckled. You raised your eyebrows in surprise and handed him the mirror and lipstick. He marked his page and put down his book before taking them. He adjusted his glasses before attempting to put the lipstick on. He tried his best, but it was obvious he hadn't done this before, and if he did, it wasn't often.

"Oh no, I smudged it." He chuckled sarcastically before pulling you in to pepper your face with kisses. The tickling sensation of his lips and the silliness of the whole situation made you giggle in delight. Your laughter was contagious to him, you felt the vibrations from his vocal cords as he kissed you. Once the scene was over, he sighed in delight and rested his face comfortably into the crook of your neck, still embracing you. You held him as close to you as you could and kissed his forehead as you ran your fingers through his hair.

Oohh spooky Twig Boys that I may or may not slightly slightly enforce my southernness on (only the good southernness like cooking, music, hospitality none that other shit) I'll be more than happy to oblige anon hehe. It's not often I get to talk/discuss the masters of fear.

Again gonna just kinda discuss all the ones I write for since I'm the most informed on those versions so sorry if I missed one and the post got long lmao

Masters of Fear Scarecrow: since you asked for him specifically I put him first lmao. And this Jon is just incredibly endearing? I think he's an adorable spry kinda guy that, like most, deserved better. I'm also super fond of his design. Also as someone who writes for "x reader" it was nice to see him...actually have a romantic interest? (albeit she was a bully bitch) listen listen...any extra info in a romantic sense of a character I will take

Arkhamverse Scarecrow: Uhh can I just say, absolute whiplash in design and mannerisms lol. While I enjoy both its like...such a bizarre change? Like yeah he did go through something traumatic (being very close to dying) but like...a total voice change? Maybe there's some behind the scenes explanation or something I don't know but yeah...I do enjoy him being whimsy and silly in Asylum and brooding and stoic in Knight with his waxing poetic lectures...but also also...does anyone have any idea how Knight Scarecrow's face works? Like his mouth and such?

TNBA Scarecrow: Definitely a more gritty and intriguing take, especially considering its a revamp of BTAS. Allegedly this is the idea of Scarecrow with a noose started? And now we've seen it incorporated in other designs which is pretty cool.

BTAS Scarecrow: Much like Jervis and I think Batman as a whole, this was my first Scarecrow encounter, and cause of such there's a wee bias to him being one of my favorites lol. Super rich voice, I don't care if he's terrorizing me, I will die of fear peacefully. Solid design and a super strong depiction of the character overall? Also my god his theatrics, top notch such a dramatic lad I love him.

Dark Knight/Nolanverse Scarecrow: pretty eyes...pretty eyes..strong jawline..pretty pretty scarecrow..huh, what? Oh..uhh yeah he's...fine I guess..I mean like not just fine as in fine as hell just...meh? I don't know I just remember him being stupidly criminally pretty. Although to be fair I don't recall much about him..sorry (granted I don't recall much about nolanverse as a whole...its been at most five years rip)

Year One Scarecrow: it took me an embarrassingly long time for me to actually read Year One rip. But it was very gut wrenching. It was the best updated take I've seen on Jon's origins and just how deeply rooted he is in his obsession, and it was a unique way too? Like it was an interesting take on the broken family scenario, I dunno I just thought it was super enriching.

Fear State Scarecrow: so I will say the designs for him are jarring as there's like..a different artist between the beginning, middle, and end of Fear State. But I like both looks, especially in the middle where he looks a lot like his BTAS counterpart. It was an amazing surprise to see the spikey red hair and wide eyes again in comic form and more realistic but still animated? I hope that makes sense. But I loved the story, and he was especially cunning and ruthless here.

Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! Scarecrow: asdgggh this boomer asshole lmao. But definitely one of my top three favorites. He's a decent blend of old and new for me. Like he bears resemblance to BTAS but also some other comic appearances, he doesn't even need to he in the costumer and you can just tell he's Jonathan Crane. Also his voice is amazing, and I will forever be grateful to the writer that decided that Scarecrow was a fucking Elvira fan boy. Like of fucking course he'd love Elvira, Mistress of the Dark asdfghjj one of the few times where canon got it right lmao

hm... Top 5 Touhou games? Can be for the gameplay, characters, story, etc

That's a good one! Let's see here...

(Obligatory "This List is Highly Subjective" Disclaimer: These are not in any particular order. Just my top 5, because I still can't rank lol.)

1. Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. A fairly typical pick, admittedly, but I still really like it. EoSD is the Touhou game that I first checked out (and by checked out I mean watched YouTube videos of lol) when I got into Touhou initially, so I can't help but like it. The art is so cheesy, especially compared to the later games (but honestly even by early Windows era), but it has this weird charm to it that I can't help but like. And of course, the characters! It's fairly easy to see why this is a common pick for beginners to Touhou, and I stand by that (although playing wise, I'd recommend IN, MoF, or TD more, because EoSD doesn't let you see your hitbox amongst other early-installment weirdness lol.)

2. Imperishable Night. IN is on here mainly because I absolutely adore how the PCs bicker with each other and the bosses lol. They're all so silly I can't help but love it lol. Shoutout to the Magic Team there lol. ("It's all Alice's fault." lives rent free in my head.) One of my favorite gimmicks in Touhou and Len'en games is when you have team-ups like this, because it lets us see these sorts of fun dynamics. If there's any Touhou gimmick I'd love to see return, it's this kind of partner system honestly (and I doubt I'm the only one, considering they're decently prevalent in fangames, at least to my knowledge).

3. Highly Responsive to Prayers. Yes really. Of all the PC-98 games to pick, why this one? I love it because it is so different from all other Touhou games, even the other four PC-98 games. Not to mention that it has this really unique tone to it (in-game at least) that I haven't really found in any of the others (even the darker ones like SA or WBaWC). There's also the element of challenge to it that really appeals to the writer in me (that's probably also insane): "How can I interpret this into a full-fledged story, presumably more like the other Touhou games?" If I were to ever attempt one of those fan novelizations of a Touhou game (whether Windows or PC-98), I think this would be my pick. Naturally, it would be the most difficult. Which is probably part of the fun knowing me lol. (Though if I were to ever attempt a novelization, I think realistically it would probably be EMS, but this is a Touhou game list, not "Maiden's Project Wishlist" lol.) But for now I can only dream.

4. Subterranean Animism. I think this is the Touhou game I'd pick for the cast of characters. Not only is it a partner gimmick game as well storywise (though I prefer IN for that), but the cast is very vibrant and colorful, as well as has a lot of fun danmaku gimmicks to go with each. I also love how brutally straight forward and completely avoidable the overall incident is: "Kanako-sama gave power to a dumbass bird in the hopes that it won't go mad with power, bird goes mad with power ". Still gets pretty dark, mind you, but it is still pretty funny in my opinion lol. I don't think I'd ever play this game though, even if I were to get good, because I've heard this game is up there as one of the hardest. But I really like it for everything else lol.

5. Ten Desires. If EoSD is what first got me really into Touhou game wise, TD is the first Touhou game that I actually played. For that reason, this game and its cast of characters hold special places in my heart for that reason. It's charming, in its own brutal way gameplay wise. Whenever I play it, I find myself wondering if this will be the run I finally best Miko. And hopefully one day, I just might! (Seiga and Yoshika are both utter nightmares though lol, but I'm making it work!)

And those are my top 5 picks at the moment! It was actually kinda difficult to narrow it down, but these are the five I'd say I'd pick for that at the moment. And who knows? Maybe it might change in the future!
