1) custom: distorted half-tone with different dpi of each layer (5 layers: CMK, fluo-Y, extra pink)

2) stochastic (3 layers: CMY)

Risograph

Risograph is a Japanese copy / printer machine brand, and it’s a different kind of printing. It become popular a couple of years ago in the illustration scene, and this is because it’s a really inexpensive method of printing or copying something, and gives your print a delightful effect or grainy texture.

In this video, she decided to do a zine of about 6 pages, where she will be illustrating a paragraph from her friend’s book. She shows us a mockup of the zine’s page sizes, with a “poster” on the back. In a sketchbook page she has text and list of characters in the story, then she made sketches of what each page would look like (storyboard). She also decided how many colors to use. Sketched the cover.

Risoprinter is a soy ink based printer machine, which is a little bit different from a traditional laser printer, which you usually see at schools, offices, staples, etc. Laser uses toner and heat to fuse the toner onto the page. The riso uses actual ink. 

Fanzine workshop med Trafo

En risograf ser ut som en kopimaskin, men fungerer etter samme prinsipp som silketrykk. Vi starter dagen med at George Wietor, som er en internasjonal superstjerne innen riso-print, gir en introduksjon til teknikken. Alle får teste riso-print og arbeide med analoge motiv, med penn, pensel og collage på papir, som deretter skannes direkte på maskinen. Wietor er amerikansk, så workshopen vil være på engelsk.
