things we know about the silken squall:

they have a drama club! dorian was in it!

rulers willing to put their children under a zone of truth spell if they were suspected of lying

a nomadic society, historically traveling worldwide, but in dorian and cyrus' lifetime they have never left marquet

rulers who left the city for years of wandering in their youths, but then pretended this never happened/wasn't the norm in order to keep their sons cloistered within the city

all air genasi are welcome! non-air genasi are also welcome--under strict guard

they have no formal monarchy, but a monarchy is nevertheless the closest to what their system of governance is. dorian frames his parents' role as giving advice to any who ask, imparting wisdom to the community, but the position is both an elevated and hereditary one. should his parents die, dorian would be expected to take over this position regardless of how much or little wisdom he had to impart to his people

due to the cloistered nature of dorian's upbringing, he had no friends before leaving and meeting the crown keepers. this implies some interesting distance between the quasi-royal family and, well. anyone else who could have been dorian's friend growing up

dorian and cyrus' formal dress included laurel headpieces denoting their status as quasi-princes

at some earlier time in dorian's life, he attended a court dance (not even a ball) where an uninvited guest showed up. to quote dorian, they were "killed immediately" due to walking into an environment where sensitive information between politicians may have been discussed

Suddenly worried that Dorian's parents from the Silken Squall will be there too and will recognise him and try to get him to come home

I'm really curious as to how Dorian in particular is going to take this whole display.

Dorian, who inherently understands complicated families and the arrogance of flying cities both. Who won't forget there are innocent and ignorant children on those cities, because he was one. Who also shares the experience of making a new life with a new name, but still reclaiming his birthright. Dorian the bard, friend of sorcerers, fighters, and warlocks whose patrons treat them very harshly, has no intrinsic reason to trust either gods or wizards.

Obviously the Silken Squall isn't one of the original Flying Cities, nor is the quasi-nobility there godhood, but there are a lot of interesting parallels I don't think the others share.

okay i knew they wouldn't mention this but i'm still a little disappointed that Brontë Wyvernwind's very public engagement to Fearne at the start of the campaign had no lasting consequences LOL

Shadycreek Run, Wildemount: Shadycreek Run is a lawless town in the Greying Wildlands, just outside of the Dwendalian Empire. It is notorious for powerful crime families and slavers. Caduceus Clay of the Mighty Nein grew up nearby, and he met and joined the party at his home outside of the city.

reasons i want to visit the silken squall:

figure out what the hell is going on with all that shit

watch dorian try to navigate his already incredibly complex feelings for his home (soft memories with his mother, loyalty for his people, dedication to his duty, incredibly lonely childhood, feelings of confinement, the seemingly highly stern and austere nature of the role he has to play as brontë wyvernwind that conflicts with his flamboyant and whimsical nature)

watch dorian try to navigate how him home, which he has such complex feelings for, interacts with his friends, as non-air genasi when non-air genasi people appear to be treated with distrust and/or looked down upon in the squall. if dorian dedicates himself entirely to his loved ones, as we know he does, what tension exists when there is a schism between his home and his friends? i'd_like_to_see_it.gif
