An illustration of Elon Musk I did in 2012 has been pirated and put on socks by the Indian company, The Socks Bakery.  They found the image online, and reached out to me with an offer of creative control and royalties. I signed nothing and sent a formal cease and desist, but the @socksbakery continues to sell these socks bearing my copyrighted creation in the US and abroad, and I have received no compensation. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I appreciate the aesthetic charm of a cringeworthy forgery, but many of my friends and fellow designers have experienced intellectual property theft much worse than this. Some of them remain in protracted legal battles against large corporations as their livelihoods have been compromised.
