How to Seal Windows from Bugs
Sealing your windows effectively can keep unwanted bugs out and maintain a comfortable living environment. Here’s a quick guide on how to do it:
Inspect and Clean: Start by inspecting the window frames and sills for any gaps, cracks, or damaged areas where bugs could enter. Clean the area thoroughly to remove dirt, dust, and debris, ensuring a smooth surface for sealing.
Choose the Right Sealant: Use a high-quality silicone or polyurethane sealant that is durable and weather-resistant. These materials are excellent for sealing gaps and preventing bug entry.
Apply Weather stripping: For movable parts of the window, such as sashes, apply adhesive-backed weather stripping. This flexible material helps to seal gaps when the window is closed.
Caulk the Gaps: Use a caulking gun to apply a continuous bead of sealant along the edges of the window frame, where it meets the wall. Pay special attention to corners and joints. Smooth the sealant with a caulk smoothing tool or a damp finger.
Install Screens: Ensure that window screens are in good condition and fit snugly in the frame. Repair or replace any damaged screens to provide an additional barrier against bugs.
Maintain Seals: Regularly check the seals around your windows and reapply sealant or weather stripping as needed to keep them effective over time.
By following these steps, you can effectively seal your windows from bugs, creating a more comfortable and bug-free home environment.

Disconnect the Washing Machine
Before starting any kind of repair make sure you properly disconnect the washing machine. Start by disconnecting the washing machine from the water supply and the mains. Then disconnect the hose that is attached at the back.
Check the Filter
Make sure you take care of small issues while troubleshooting the problem. The condition of the filter is one such issue. Carefully remove the filter and check its condition. If it is dirty, it can be put aside for descaling. You can simplify the task, by simply replacing it with another new filter.
Take Pictures and Mark the Components
In order not to confuse wires with connectors during reassembly, you can simply photograph them. You can also choose to mark the components with a marker. A combination of both techniques can also be utilized.
Tips to Remove the Motor
· Before disconnecting the motor, you need to remove the belt as well as all electrical wires (connectors).
· Secondly, you need to unscrew the shock absorbers using a socket wrench. The tank is now ready to be pulled out along with the drum.
· Before disassembling the washing machine tank, you first need to separate the motor from its body.
· In order to remove the pulley smoothly, first block it. This can be done using a regular wrench.
· The nut is unscrewed counterclockwise.
Disassembly of the Tank
· In order to separate the parts of a tank, you need to remove the metal fasteners.
· There is a rubber gasket between the two halves of the tank. It is better to replace it with a new one after reassembling the tank.
· Use a hammer to pull out the stainless steel drum, and a metal pipe to fit the axle diameter.
· It is better to use a special press to remove the drum.
Bearing Replacement
· The first and foremost thing required for bearing replacement is to buy the right bearing.
· This can be accurately done by checking for the designation codes on old bearings.
· Also, make sure to replace the seal along with the bearing. These are provided with a pair of new bearings.
· Purchase the special water-repellent white grease. Lubricate the steel axle of the drum with grease in order to prevent it from rusting in the future.
· You can now insert the drum into the bearings of the tub of the washing machine.

Consider Metal Roofing for Energy Efficiency, Durability, And ROI
In the US metal roofing is the second most sough-after roofing material and for good reason. There’s an impressive list of benefits you can expect from metal roofs. They are one of the best roofing materials to consider if you are looking for energy efficiency, durability, sustainability and ROI.
Metal Roofing Installation?
Metal roofs are durable and are expected to last 40-50 years, but DIY installation can be a hassle. Though you will save thousands of dollars with DIY installation, there’re many safety & building code considerations to keep in mind.
Fortunately, you can collaborate with a reliable Metal Roof Supply Company in Atlanta GA like BRS Roofing Supply to get the job done in a budget-friendly way. They are well-equipped with all the essential tools like ladder, work gloves, drill, screw gun, claw hammer, electric stapler, roof jacks, flashing, silicone sealant, etc to ensure a safe roofing installation.
Metal roofing versus shingles:
The major dissimilarity between shingle and metal roofs is very straight forward: they’re made of different materials.
The biggest advantage of a metal roof is that it doesn’t warrant a lot of maintenance works. When installed professionally, all you have to do with a metal roof is clear debris and clean it to maintain a pristine look.
During its lifespan metal roofs hardly need to be replaced, so they boost your property value significantly. Since they are durable, buyers don’t need to worry of any extra roofing outlays. Moreover, some home insurance providers also offer lower premium for properties having metal roofs.
Can metal roofing be installed over shingles?
The answer is yes in most of the cases. A new metal roof can be laid down over an existing shingle roof. This is why metal roofs are so popular today! Their installation does not warrant totally tearing off the existing roof, which is a very expensive and time-consuming task. Since metal roof is very light, adding a roof made of this material over existing shingles does not drastically increase the overall load for your home structure to bear.
Get in touch with BRS Roofing Supply today, if you are looking for one of the most trusted metal roofing suppliers near me in Atlanta. Being the leader in metal roofing supply in Atlanta, we deliver the best products to Homeowners and Roofing Contractors. Contact us at 470-999-9997!

What To Do If You Find a Leak in Your Roof
House, home, sweet home. But what happens when the roof starts to leak? For many homeowners, this is a terrifying reality that they never expect to have to face. And for those who do, it can be a very costly ordeal. If you find a leak in your roof, don’t wait to take action. Here are five steps to follow in order to minimise the damage and get your house back in shape as soon as possible:
What to do if you find a leak
If you find a leak in your roof repair near me, the first thing you should do is contact a roofing contractor. A roof leak can develop quickly and cause serious damage to your home. The best way to determine the severity of the leak and begin to address it is by calling in a professional.
If you are able to determine the source of the leak, you can try to stop it from occurring again by repairing or replacing the damaged areas. You may also need to replace your roof if the leak is severe enough. In any case, it's important to take action as soon as possible so that you can minimise damage and prevent further leaks from occurring.
How to fix a leak
If you find water dripping from your roof, there are a few things you can do to fix the leak. The most common cause of roof leaks is due to Manufacturer’s Defects (MDs) in the roofing material. If the leaking is localised and does not appear to be affecting your structural integrity, then often all that is required is for you to call a contractor and have them patch the leak. If the water damage appears extensive or if it appears that the leak could cause structural damage, then a more extensive repair may be required.
In many cases, however, it is not possible to determine the root cause of the leak without further inspection. In these cases, your best option may be to call in a professional assessor who can provide an estimate for repairing or replacing the roofing material.
What to do if you can't fix the leak
If you find a leak in your roof, there are a few things you can do to try and fix it. First, make sure that the leak is actually coming from the roof. If the leak is coming from outside the roof, you may be able to fix it with a sealant. If the leak is coming from within the roof, you will need to replace the roof.
What to do if water is coming into your home
If you find water coming into your home, the first thing to do is to determine where the water is coming from. If it is coming from a pipe that runs under the house, get a bucket and go under the house to check for leaks. If the water is coming from the roof, get a bucket and go up on to the roof to check for leaks. Once you have determined where the leak is, start by filling a bucket with water and placing it near the leak. Turn off all of the valves that could be leaking and wait 15 minutes. If there is no change in volume or temperature after 15 minutes, then you can assume that there is no leak and you can go about your day. If there is an increase in volume or temperature after 15 minutes, then you can assume that there is a leak and you need to begin troubleshooting.
The most common type of leak in best roofing company near me are called “rip-offs”. This happens when rainwater gets trapped between two layers of shingles and eventually breaks through those layers to enter your home. To fix this type of leak, you will need to remove all of the shingles around the area of the leak, dry out any underlying wood rot, seal any cracks with caulk or silicone weatherstriping and re-apply new shingles.
What to do if mould is growing
If you find a leak in your roof, the first thing to do is to determine where the leak is coming from. Check for any obvious signs of water damage on the roof, such as holes or sagging insulation. If there are any signs of water damage, then you will need to take action to stop the leakage. There are a few different ways to do this...

Dad Letter 082221
22 August, 2021
Dear Dad--
Happy what for you will be Sunday! Perhaps I should just say happy weekend. It’s Saturday morning here in the trailer and it seems like we’re going to catch some of Hurricane Henri sometime about Monday or Tuesday. I am excited by this! I’ve mentioned how our single-wide leaked like a sieve from the windows along its west wall. Well, in response to our maintenance request, they sent a dude around to come fix it. I believe caulk, or otherwise some big tube of silicone sealant in a dispensing gun (pew! pew!) was employed. We still have our original leak; water always comes in through the top of our back door. The dude put the magic caulk on that thing too, but it’s like original sin...it’s just always gonna be there. It’s the leak where the previous tenants installed plastic hooks on the door, to hang towels on, to catch the leaks.
I spent some time on the internet yesterday and got myself some medical benefits! I now have medical, dental, and vision coverages. I don’t know when they start, but I’m going to search for a dentist some more today. I tried the area’s largest family dentistry, a place with (I’m guessing) maybe 20 dentists working in it, and their website says they have no available appointments. This seems unlikely, but not impossible. I think there’s a problem with the scheduling website, or else they’re having a surge of business before school starts, or something else temporary. Either way, I’ll find a dentist. The dental pain which I’ve come to live with and treat with Ibuprofen every day may soon be a thing of the past.
I don’t suppose I can avoid mentioning that I’m still having problems with depression. I have a few online friends who’ve been super helpful while I seem to be in this downswing, and I’m hoping to get rid of it, and return to my usual sarcastic-yet-ebullient self soon. (You don’t need to suggest exercising, I can actually hear you thinking it from here. Got to admit, I kind of wish I owned a weight bench.) I believe at least some of the depression stems from having no circle of friends. I have, at best, a very tiny triangle of friends. The three components of the friend triad would be: husband, cats and coworkers, and Mr. and Mr. plant scientist guy. I was going to go with Zach to plant scientist guy’s home today to eat, but instead I’m going to stay home and eat worms and feel sorry for myself. (Zach suggested I might like some “me” time, and I’m not keen to inflict myself upon anyone just now anyway.) Also I have lots of work shirts to iron.
I’m actually looking forward to work tomorrow, just a little bit, even though it’s my Monday. My boss has suggested in advance that I do 6 of the 7 audits tomorrow, and I don’t think I’ve ever done 6 in a day before. I especially haven’t attempted to do 6 on a Sunday, since we always audit the previous day’s stuff, which means I’d be auditing a Saturday, typically a busy time. I’m confident that I can do it, however. I can do each of those 6 audits in about an hour, and that gives me a whole two extra hours for “shit happens.” I like knowing how to do all that stuff. There’s a good chance I’ll get through all 6 audits without having any questions, or any problems I can’t solve myself.
And it’s going to be September soon! That always gets me excited, since that’s when I start my two month scary movie marathon, beginning with Night of the Demon, from 1957. I’ve reached a point where, as soon as I hear that movie begin, I relax a bit, because I know summer is over. Also, a lot of my favorite movies are in that genre, including a bunch of British ones, and a bunch with extremely unconvincing monsters. But that’s when I watched The Thing From Another World (1951), and The Fog, and the original Amityville Horror, and The Changeling, with George C. Scott. Good stuff! And, of course, the two months culminate on Halloween, when I watch a couple I saved for last, and we eat all the candy we bought, because children generally know better than to come to a trailer park during the time of plague resurgence in search of things to put in their mouths, that they KNOW FOR CERTAIN was just handled by a stranger.
Actually, I think the way they do Halloween now is: everyone buys candy and drives to church, and everyone else brings their kids, and the kids just visit each car for candy, one after the other. It doesn’t sound like it provides as much walking as the traditional way of trick-or-treating, and it seems to reduce the possibility of criminal mischief to near zero. (I’m just thinking you can’t TP someone’s house when you’re gathering candy in the church parking lot.) But it preserves some of the elements of the old fashioned style. Halloween is a great holiday, mostly because I like watching the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown special. I’m one of the few people that loves every second of that TV special, even the WW1 parts where Snoopy gets shot down behind enemy lines by the Red Baron. That show has some great jazz music in it.
I received something kind of cool in the mail today, a 16 x 100 inch roll of dichroic film. What the shit is that, you ask? Well, you see it in holiday decorations a lot. It’s a colored film that changes color depending on the angle from which you’re viewing it. It’ll also do stuff like: light passing through it is blue, but light bouncing off it is bright orange. It’s just a film you can use to tint plastic and windows that make pretty colors. I have tinted two windows in our metal living tube with it! I’ll include the pictures. It sticks on with soapy water, and is supposed to peel right off when it comes time to move out and take all my disco shit with me. I’m considering putting a couple of small patches of it on my car, just because it’s so pretty. I’ll include a pic of the dichroic film. By now, as you’ve probably concluded, they use that dichroic glass in certain disco lights.
I have a few things happening, but it’s a slow period. I have already put some of the dichroic film on the bathroom window and the window in the back door, which we never open. As predicted, it is pretty as fuck! I want to cover my car windows with it, but I checked, and I’m pretty sure that would be illegal in Maine. Auto window tint has to allow at least 30% of light to pass through (no worries, and with disco colors!) and it has to be non-reflective (shit! Mine is super reflective!) Just taking a picture of some balled-up leftover bits of the dichroic film is pretty. Anything you can scrunch up into a ball and take a beautiful picture of it MUST be special.
I was afraid, for a period, that I had done something to kill my ability to read books for fun! I know I’ve been anhedonic lately, but I’m pretty sure that I haven’t smoked enough drugs to make myself illiterate. Then, as an experiment, I picked up a Jack Reacher book, and read all 450 pages in about a day. I am pleased to report that I have neither smoked myself illiterate, nor forgotten how to enjoy a good page-turner. This pleases me!
More next week! All my love to you both!

Making A Rune Set : My Process
One of the most popular items I create for my shop are rune sets, which are actually quite simple and inexpensive to create as they do not use many materials (depending on what you decide to make yours out of) There are also many advantages to creating resin runes over using wood / stones which can break, fracture, or lose their engraving / painting over time. If you’re the creative type or have been wanting to make your own resin runes, this is a tutorial/ guide made just for you and also a way to show off my creative process :) NOTE: I am NOT affiliated with these products or companies in any way other than what I use to create my own- what you are reading is an unsponsored opinion.
What I Use:
I have made rune sets I have in the shop for sale out of either Epoxy resin (FanAut brand shown in photos can be purchased on Amazon cheaply) or UV Resin (Puduo UV resin includes stirrers and silicone cups for beginners!), both of which have their advantages and disadvantages. If you’re a true beginner, I recommend sticking with epoxy resin as UV resin is far less forgiving (and expensive). You can use any product you wish- even polymer clay or paper mache- to form your own runes, these are just tried and true for me.
While you can create your own mold by casting dominoes or whatever shape you want to use for your runes in mold material, you can also purchase these flexible silicone molds on Amazon or Etsy fairly cheaply. They allow for the engraving effect, so you do not have to engrave them by hand or rely solely on paint. (I had just demolded some runes- excuse my mess)
I like to use the thermogenic pigments you see in the first two photos (my secret ingredients) combined with glow in the dark powder to create special FX rune sets that are magical unto themselves. As you can see, the pigment reacts to my body heat to change from purple to blue as I press on it. (idk where that gold leaf came from- you should really see my work space lol), but you may use whatever materials you wish for additives- mica pigments, alcohol inks, papers / photos (sealed of course)- whatever inspires you! I often incorporate Selenite crystal shards into my own runes as well, as Selenite will NOT react to the resin by reverting to Gypsum and will retain its lustrous crystals and appearance when cast. I have used other crystals as well, allowing their metaphysical properties to coalesce with the inorganic matter, creating an Orgone energy flow effect.
You will also need stir sticks (popsicle sticks will do), gloves or finger cots, silicone or disposable plastic measuring cups (3 for your epoxy mixture and one for each pigment you wish to use), wax paper or silicone mat for your work area, and a torch / toothpick to attack bubbles with. You may also wish to grab a large box to cover your runes while they cure to prevent dust from getting sealed within them. You’ll want to grab some sandpaper or fine grain files (nail files work) to use once your runes have fully cured to smooth the edges.
Tips:
Lay your molds out flat. Store bought molds will have all 25 tiles. Pour a thin layer of clear resin in each reservoir before pouring in pigments or embedding objects.
To get bubbles to come to the surface, use a blow dryer or heat gun to heat the resin and pop them with your torch or toothpick. Bubbles are the most likely to occur around the edges of each engraved glyph, the corners of each tile, and approximately 35 mins into your work as the resin begins to cure and harden. Pay attention to your work time and how long you have to work with your brand of epoxy.
For complex or intricate designs, pour each in layers, allowing 2-4 hours in between for your resin to cure enough so the colors do not mix.
It isn’t necessary to fill each tile’s reservoir to the brim. Try filling them 3/4 of the way each, allowing some room at the top so the resin doesn’t expand and overflow while curing (think pouring muffin mix / batter into muffin cups)
Once your runes have cured (12-24 hours or whatever your product states) you’ll want to gently pop each one out of the mold. If your runes still feel flexible, tacky, or gelatinous, they need to sit longer to cure. Silicone molds are easy to demold, but plastic and other materials can be tricky. If you have trouble removing your project from your mold, there is an abundance of tips / guides on the Resin Obsession blog.
Above you see I have Mod Podge Gloss sealant and some acrylic paint markers. These are for outlining / painting the glyph’s engravings so they stand out against the color of each tile, with the Mod Podge to seal the paint so it doesn’t smudge after drying, adding a nice glossy finish. You can even use metallic Sharpies or other permanent markers to outline, which ironically will stay without a sealant. Should you choose to paint each glyph like I do and end up with a mess, grab some alcohol pads or swabs to touch up any mistakes before applying your sealant. This step is entirely optional- you don’t have to apply a sealant on the paint to benefit from outlining each glyph nor do you even have to paint them - do whatever you think looks amazing! Note: you only need a thin layer of gloss / sealant for this and it can be diluted.
You may wonder why I begin hand filing each rune after I paint and seal them. This is because sometimes the sealant runs off the tile and creates its own cluster of sad hardened material extending off the bottom. I use a regular old nail file on the back of each tile, filing until the back is level, or damn near close to it, and smooth. Depending on the texture of the rune and what resin I chose, I may switch to a very fine grain sandpaper or nail buffing block to smooth and polish.
After filing, I run each rune under warm water and add some mild soap, putting them all into a bowl and swirling / allowing them to soak to remove all residue and debris leftover from filing. More filing may take place after the initial soak if I feel it is needed. I then drain the bowl and dump the tiles on a towel to allow them to air dry.
That’s about it- congratulations! You have made your first rune set! All of this takes place before your runes arrive to you, with each set being spiritually cleansed and charged before packaging. The products mentioned in this guide may be purchased at your local Dollar Store (disposable crafting supplies), craft or hobby store, or online at Amazon / Etsy fairly cheaply.
I hope you enjoyed this guide and thank you for taking a look at my personal creative process! You can find my custom, handmade rune sets in my Etsy shop if you are not as creatively inclined as well!
Happy crafting & blessed be !

At the risk of tempting the universe/PTB to throw anything more at me, a brief summary of my weekend (with added background info that I bought my first house 2 months ago):
Saturday morning, arse o’clock: text from my mother saying she is sending my dad over and are there any jobs that need doing?
Yes, quite a few. Chief of which is I want to trace whatever fault means that half1 the spotlights in my kitchen aren’t working.2
Slightly later Saturday, more reasonable time: Dad arrives. Decides that since weather is nice, he's going to repair my back gate. Fair enough - it wasn't on my list, but it will mean I can actually open it whenever I need to rather than wrestling with it.
While helping him: Spot something that annoys me, and I have purchased the means to fix but not got around to actually doing it. The security light comes on no matter what time of day it is. It is currently broad daylight. Decide to amend this. Venture into basement, turn electricity off. Arm self with screwdrivers. Prepare to install switch rather than popping fuse out of wall all the time3.
Bit of swearing later: Fuse panel is off wall, but there is something going on outside. Venture out to find a guy out cold in the street running behind the terrace, with two teenage girls speaking to the 999 operator. As I kneel beside him to try and assess, he starts to come round - enough to say he doesn't want an ambulance. I try to get girls to not relay this to the operator, but they do and it's cancelled. He is CLEARLY still out of it. They hang up, go on their way, and he promptly passes out again.
Remind self of how to put someone into the recovery position. Lament that last time I did this it was a conscious, skinny PGCE student in her early twenties, and this is a grown-ass man who is not surreptitiously helping with the rolling over. I also can't get his hand under his head, so I hold his head up myself instead, while my dad finally decides I've been a while and rings 999 back4.
Takes them a while to get there. I think the call timer is over 20 mins. My back is in spasms, my left leg is going numb and pins & needles-y. The guy has vomited three times (thank fuck I rolled him). Paramedics manage to bring him round a bit - enough to get him to confess he's on methodone.
Ow, fucking ow: Have to go back to doing the electrical work, since the power is off and my dad now needs to charge the drill. Set about attaching the cables to the right bits. Discover that the cabling is too short to reach one of the terminals on the new switch. Fuck. Re-install fuse plate. Turn power back on. Thank whoever is listening that I don't seem to have screwed anything up.
Saturday, 2:45: Lunch. I have frozen bread, and a shit-load of eggs. Scrambled eggs on toast it is.
Maybe 3:15?: Dad sets about re-seating curtain pole in the spare room, with decent rawlplugs so that it will take the weight of the curtain my mum is making for it.
Not long later: That's done with minimal fuss5. Dad muses that could do with putting the rail back on the stairs6.
Couple of minutes later: Persuade him that could actually do with lifting the floor since I'd quite like to be able to see in the kitchen after nightfall, whereas the handrail is a minor inconvenience. We begin.
At this point, it is worth noting that I had tried this myself on Thursday evening only to discover the floor appears to be chipboard rather than floorboards. Also it is worth noting that the carpet was laid and then the skirting boards put down over it.
Half an hour later?: Free enough of the carpet to realise that the bed needs to be moved. And by moved, I mean effectively dismantled.
Another hour?: Bed semi-dismantled and on its side7, room totally rearranged. More skirting boards unscrewed, silicon sealant peeled from the walls, skirtings removed8, carpet screws removed, carpet rolled up as much as possible. We manage to prise one of the bits of chipboard up, only to realise that: a) the original floorboards are still mostly there underneath (although mostly not under this particular bit), and b) the majority of the fucking things have not only been screwed down over the floorboards, but also GLUED. I shit you not. Also that some of the boards extend underneath the plasterboard9 wall
We decide this is a bigger job than us and have to at least put the flooring back down and move things we had moved from there into my room back so I can at least get into bed. We decide not to do anything else as it will only need moving again.
Around 6pm: My poor dad heads home. I discover I have a stray text from my mum about half an hour earlier asking if he's still with me.
Not long later: Run bath. Pour self bowl of tesco's coco pops in lieu of meal I haven't got the spoons to cook.10
Ominous message from mother: She is coming over tomorrow to hang the curtain, and set the spare room right again.
Sunday, about 9am: Ow. Owowowowow. Break out the painkillers. Fuck. Browse AO3 for Rose/Ten fics since I have just binged their season and I have feels, okay?
11:30: Text from mother: she is heading over around 1: do I want anything picking up at the temperance bar since she is going?11
Around 12: Decide should get dressed. Painkillers doing their job. Get clean jeans since she is dragging me out for curtain hoops. I might not drive, but I at least know where I'm going.12
12:15: spot a big, ominous wet patch above my bedroom door that is just about to start dripping. FUCK!
Shove water cup under the impending drip, grab towel and slightly larger container, replace cup. Grab bigger container and head for loft access hatch.
Realise loft access is behind all this shit we moved around in the spare room yesterday. Double fuck. Set about moving it elsewhere so I can get in.
12:30:Ring Dad and ask if he can bring over his big set of stepladders as I suspect I probably could get myself into the attic space13, but would break my neck coming back down. Also I need a torch that is not my phone. He laments that Mum has taken the big car. I call her instead, get her to head home and stock up on essentials (ladders, torch, Dad). I decide to change into yesterday's scruffy jeans since this isn't likely to be a clean job.
About 1-1:15: They arrive, and my dad manoeuvres himself into the attic. This is impressive and just a lot of a dangerous move or two involved. It takes a second person (read: me), which means I have no chance of getting up there myself.
Issue is with the chimney stack and can't actually get a bucket under it. But by the light of my phone14 he can see multiple other issues. Although he does move a slate back into place so I can't see daylight between it and its next-door neighbour. Bless him.
2:15: decide to get some lunch and the curtain hoops. Head into town. Can't park15 Mum decides she isn't hungry, drops us at Costa (it's open, at least) and goes to get the hoops herself.
3-ish: Get back. Sort spare room so it is habitable. Because there is still a drip from my bedroom doorframe, so guess where I'm suddenly sleeping tonight. Hang curtain16.
4-ish: Decide to actually put the handrail back, so we can feel we've at least achieved something useful. This turns out to be a bigger job than anticipated because the fucking plaster keeps falling apart and the rawlplugs won't hold properly. And the ones that will, we don't have screws the right size for. I mean...
5:30-ish: Rail is up. They leave. I run bath as everything is ouch.
7-ish: Can no longer ignore fact that I can hear dripping in the bathroom. Get out while bath is still full to try and work out where the fuck it is coming from. Take side panel off bath17. Not obvious. The outlet pipe has drippy bits all along it. Can't get a container under it. Yay.
Shove microfibre cloth under just to try and contain dripping. Suspect the joint in the pipe where new plumbing has been connected to older is the issue, but seems to be from both bloody ends of the joint piece.
7:45-ish: Drain bath, turn shower on so can wash hair. Little later than anticipated - won't dry properly now18.
tl;dr: I hate my house and everything about it.
1. The half that are on the useful side of the kitchen. You know, where the sink and hob are. The ones that help me do things like cook and wash up after dark.
2. Spotlights embedded into ceilings are clearly one of Crowley's inventions.
3. I am not a qualified electrician, but I have studied electronics at school, been taught on the side by my engineer dad, and I know my limits. Do not do this yourself if you aren't absolutely sure of what you're looking at.
4. Can't do it myself as my battery is dead and, guess what - I've turned the electricity off so I can't charge it. And my landline is cordless, so that needs power too.
5. other than Dad not realising that my ceilings are a little lower than his and going 1 step too high on the ladder. Muppet.
6. I removed this about 2 days after I moved in because of the 4 brackets supposedly securing it to the wall, only 2 actually were. I was more liable to break my neck using it than not. It didn't take me long to realise that while removing it was a 1 woman job, putting it back required more hands. 4 more, as it transpires.
7. Dad manages to hit his head on one of the protruding legs of the bed. I swear...
8. Honestly. They were screwed to the wall and then silicon sealed along the top (and joining edges). The carpet was screwed to the floor under the boards.
9. Drywall, for anyone of an American disposition.
10. Ignore suspicious dripping sound. This turns out to be something of a mistake.
11. Fucking yes, I am almost out of all my cordials. Curse not living near it any more
12. Mostly. One-way systems are a touch tricky when you don't have to obey them. As are bus-only routes.
13. On later reflection, this is incredibly doubtful since I lack the upper body strength to haul myself several feet straight up.
14. Because they brought a curtain and cushions as well as the big stepladder, but not a torch.
15. Also not something I have to think about often.
16. Discover Mum and I have been talking cross-purposes as to which side of the window it is going on. Fortunately this is not a massive issue.
17. Inventory of the under-bath: 2 bags grout, 1 tub of paint, 1 jigsaw piece, 1 part of an old loo roll holder, about 50cm of 1cm diameter dowel, 1 electrical cable that is quite possibly live given that an attempt has been made to insulate it inside a plastic bag. What is not there is the wooden frame that should support the sides of the plastic bath.
18. There are many advantages to the care and maintenance of curly hair. Not being able to blow-dry it is NOT one of them. Not having to, otoh, is.

But if you're thinking of installing stone flooring, you shouldn't worry: it's an easy way of adding a touch of style to your home, with relatively minimal skills needed. Natural Stone Flooring 1: Preparation Preparation is key to any project, and stone flooring is no exception to this: if you're working on a new construction, you can pour a layer of concrete to create a level subfloor; if it's a remodelled floor, you'll need to install water-resistant backer board which is specifically designed for laying tiles on top, as this will be waterproof and will reinforce the tile joints. 2: Measure and purchase Next you'll need your maths skills to work out how many stone tiles you will need. To work out the surface area, multiply the length by the width and then add 10 - 15% more to the sum to allow for cutting and fitting extra pieces of tile around the edges of your stone flooring. Remember when purchasing your stone tiles that you'll also need to buy the appropriate adhesive to fix them; speak to the team at your stone merchants, as different types of natural stone retain moisture at different rates, and surfaces differ from stone to stone – from rustic rough-to-the-touch natural stone through to highly polished surfaces – so it's important to get the correct mortar or grout. 3: Laying the tile As a general rule, when laying square stone flooring, you should lay the stone tiles from the middle of the room outwards to ensure that any cut tiles are at the walls and not in the centre of the room. However, if the walls of the room you're working in aren't completely straight, you should consider which part of the floor needs a straight edge and start tiling from there. Remember the last tiles to be laid will be uneven, so you should plan for these to be installed in a less obvious part of the room. For rough cut stone flooring, the layout of the natural stone should be worked out before fitting the smaller tiles in-between the larger flagstones. You may need to use a hammer to break off smaller parts of the natural stone tiles for filling the gaps. 4: Fixing and sealing Once you've decided on the layout of your stone tiles, the next step is to mix your adhesive and spread a good amount on the floor before finally fixing your tiles. You should use a spirit level to ensure that the floor and each individual tile is level and that no lips appear from tile to tile. Once your floor has fully set, you should use a stone sealer to help protect your stone flooring and prevent stains; your stone merchant will be able to advise on the best sealant for your new stone flooring. Caulk and Caulking Tools
There are specific caulk types for every job in the bathroom, kitchen and outside the home. Choosing the right type of caulk and application method doesn't have to be confusing though. With the right information, it can be an easy DIY project.
Why Use Caulking Sealant? Caulk is used as a sealant for filling cracks or gaps around windows, doors, plumbing and pipes. When applied properly, it can prevent water, bugs or air from entering your home. To learn how to use caulk, watch our video: How to Use Caulk.
Caulk Types Latex and silicone caulk are the most common types. The two materials are sometimes combined and sold as siliconized latex or latex plus silicone. These products offer the easy use of latex with the added durability of silicone.
Caulk comes in two forms: a cartridge or a squeeze tube. Using a larger cartridge (usually 9 to 11 ounces) with a caulk gun will result in a continuous bead of caulk. For smaller projects, a smaller squeeze tube (usually 3 to 6 ounces) may be a more convenient choice.
In addition to cartridges and tubes, you can also buy caulk strips. These rolls come with adhesive backing and a fast, no-mess application. With no tools required, these mildew-resistant strips are perfect for sealing bathtubs, showers and wall trim, and can even be applied over existing caulk as a finishing touch.
Latex Caulk ● Easier to apply and replace ● Can be painted ● Easy to clean with soap and water ● Minimal odor ● Weakens in extreme temperatures or sunlight ● Works on porous and nonporous surfaces ● Best suited for constant gaps ● Also called painters caulk or latex/acrylic caulk
Silicone Caulk ● More difficult to apply or replace ● Only some can be painted (check the label) ● Requires mineral spirits for cleanup ● Stronger odor than latex ● More flexible and holds up to extreme temperatures and sunlight ● Lasts longer ● Works on nonporous surfaces ● Works for gaps that expand, contract or stay constant
Specialty Caulks For certain projects, you may need a specialty caulk designed for a particular task. You'll always get the best results when you use caulk that's designed for your project's specific conditions. Here are some of the main types of specialty caulks and their key features.

Caulking windows overview
Caulking windows, in general, is an extremely easy job; however, it can be very time consuming and is the reason the job costs can be higher. Before the job begins, a contractor will scrape away all of the old caulk around the window by using a special window scraper or utility knife. At this time, they should inspect the areas for any seal leaks around the home. Once removed, the surface will be cleaned and a new layer will be applied using caulk inside a caulking gun. For doors or operable windows, weather-stripping will be used instead. The two most common types of caulk on the market is latex and silicone. Latex caulk is easier to put on and can be painted, while silicone is more durable and is able to withstand extreme temperatures. Caulking compounds can come in aerosol cans, squeeze tubes or ropes for home-based jobs.
What are the extra costs?
Doing the job yourself will require a caulk gun, which should cost no more than a few dollars.
If you’re going to do the job yourself and you have a two-story home, an outdoor ladder will be required to reach the higher floors. A good ladder can cost anywhere from $150 to $250.
Some homeowners hire a professional window cleaner before applying the caulk, especially if permanent dirt spots are noticed.
Tips to know
A silicone caulk is recommended because it’s flexible, water resistant and it can last a lot longer than other types. If you want to paint over the caulk, always make sure you purchase one that can be repaint able.
The best time to have windows caulked is during the fall when the caulk is able to adhere to the window the best. If the temperatures are too cold, the caulk may not adhere the way you want it to. Low humidity is also important because this can help prevent cracks and swelling while being applied.
