"I love you, Shouta," Hizashi says. He says it all the time. Shouta never responds. He knows he loves him back, he does know that, in fact he constantly catches his husband smiling down at his ring when he's grading papers, or hides a special little smile he reserves only for him behind his scarf, or staring at him with this wonderful, loving look in his eyes. But he doesn't say it back.

It happens for so long, Hizashi starts to doubt that fact, just a little. Did Shouta love him less? Is that what it meant? Or did he not love him at all?

One day, they were talking about their students. For whatever reason, that led to things they did as students. Then that led to him telling Shouta about this thing he did as a kid when he overused his quirk; sending messages through a number of taps or squeezing the other's hand a certain number of times. Three meant 'I Love You.'

And then Shouta grabbed his hand and squeezed three times. I love you. And again, and again. And he kept saying it, a shit-eating grin on his face, until Hizashi was turning red and hiding a smile and dragged him into a kiss.

And suddenly Shouta was saying it all the time. Whenever they held hands, if they were just standing close and talking he would tap it on Hizashi's hand, even in front of the students!

Taptaptap, on the back of his hand while Shouta was reading him a report. "I love you, too," he'd said automatically.

Midoriya's head whipped around and Tsuyu went, "Ah, so you're Aizawa Sensei's husband."

Shouta hid behind his scarf.

Still, he kept tapping the message. In fact, he said it more than Hizashi did! Tapping the message on whatever part of him was closest or squeezing his hand. It became routine to tap back whenever he heard of felt the three taps, even if it wasn't Shouta (to which he would laugh when Hizashi told him).

One night, he tapped 'I Love You' on his husband's shoulder when they were in bed. Three taps from the hand slung across his waist, even though Shouta was asleep. The next day, Hizashi was told he did the same thing.

And now he knew, with an abundance indisputable evidence, that Shouta loved him more than anything, even if he didn't say it out loud.
