Chingri Potoler Dorma: (Prawn stuffed pointed gourd) This is a famous traditional Bengali cuisine where the potol/pointed gourd/parwal/parval is stuffed with Chingri/Prawns along with shredded coconut, poppy seeds and mustard seeds paste, mustard sauce and lil bit of finely chopped green chilies, salt and sugar to taste, and, then deep fried and mixed in a spicy gravy made of coconut milk. Here coconut and prawns are the dominant ingredients of this recipe. I specifically use mustard oil to cook this sort of traditional Bengali food. When I first had this recipe, I was in my 7th grade, and, it seemed a really interesting recipe for me. At that age this recipe was a terrific mystery for me. I literally had to coax my mother to teach me how to cook the same. Not to mention, I must agree, that my Mother is a great cook. She is still my mentor, as far as cooking difficult Bengali cuisines are concerned.Since then probably it's been more than 20-25 times I've tried out cooking this recipe with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian ingredients. And, everytime it tasted amazing. This can be served with rice or can be had just like it is.
