Hey lovelies. Hoping your week is progressing in an upward direction. I hopefully get to finally talk to my dad tomorrow after over a week of everything going on, so I'll be in and out of things again. I know everyone is dealing with their own level of craziness right now, and I want to remind you that you're doing great no matter what you're dealing with. It could be little, it could be huge, it could be life-changing, or could be making you regress further back than you'd like-- whatever it is, you are getting through the best way you can, and you never have to feel bad about that.

I know it can feel like there's never an end to the chaos-- but remember that there are pockets of joy and love there in this life too, and however you need to cope with your daily struggles, don't feel bad in taking solace in that. Enjoy the little things, no matter how small. Rest up lovelies, breathe in, breathe out, drink some water, and keep going. I love how in Siegfried's SC3 endings you can interpret it either as him finally finding peace on his own (Input ending) or his father's spirit ACTUALLY saves him from the Nightmares and he's able to find peace through that (Non-input ending) and both are equally valid

how embarrassing it's to be Siegfried Farnon right now. everyone knows that you are a big softie. you keep adopting grown ass 20 smth y.o. boys and give them family. one of them brought home a stubborn farmer's daughter who has non of your bs and destroyed very little that left of your blunt facade by being even more blunt. there's a baby in the house now, and your brain has constant cuteness overload. and on top of all of this the love your life is single now, but found herself a new good cause and you just have to be a mother hen of this family while she becomes an action hero. malewification goes smoothly.

I’ll take a fun fact, and in return give you a Happy Friday!

I found this out because I recently read The Fellowship about the Inklings, and so! Today You Learned which famous actress Tolkien met by accident one time.

Tolkien recounts this in Letter 267, in reference to how he knows that not a lot of people really know who he is. He was at a lecture by Robert Graves (yes, that Robert Graves; he had this to say about him: "A remarkable creature, entertaining, likeable, odd, bonnet full of wild bees, half-German, half-Irish, very tall, must have looked like Siegfried/Sigurd in his youth, but an Ass."). After the lecture--which Tolkien said was horrible--he was introduced to a young woman (Graves assumed they'd recognize each other) who he found easy to talk to, and they apparently got along quite well. Partway through this conversation, Graves was very amused and said, "It is obvious neither of you has ever heard of the other before," and made formal introductions.

Tolkien, of course, you know. The woman here was Ava Gardner. Y'know, the famous actress.

a half-assed audrey/helen manifesto!

So of course I love Audrey/Siegfried; they're literally perfect for each other and their whole thing is so fun and they're such a source of strength for each other that I've cried real tears while watching the show. (Although most of my tears are about dogs + their humans. Sometimes cows + their humans. Once—twice?—a horse + their humans.) But as I watched 4x1 last night I could not help but think for the millionth time that it's absolutely unfair that AO3 isn't chock full of Audrey/Helen fics in which Helen helps Audrey get her groove back...now with the added perfect plot entrypoint of Audrey filing for divorce and reclaiming her identity as a single woman?!

I mean, let's face it, Gerald—through no fault of his own—does not emit strong getting-the-groove-back vibes. But Helen and Audrey are so ideal.

They already regularly call each other by their first names

Audrey did Helen's hair for her wedding TWICE; they're very close

It's so fucking adorable when they can't stop laughing over stuff, like everything that happens with the nasty hot cross buns made with ration-respecting modifications

My little canon-compliant brain can admit that James is a bit rigid as far as characters go, and might not immediately love the idea of his wife getting some additional kicks with Audrey, and Helen certainly wouldn't cheat on her husband, and Audrey is a very religious woman who seems aware of her desires but like she's been staying sane by keeping them at arm's length until relatively recently, but these are the types of character challenges that would be such fun for a writer who ideally isn't me to figure out how to navigate believably. And then if Audrey and Siegfried do get together at some point but Helen (and James, stalwart stand-up James) are still around...the more the merrier!

Yes, this is the exact energy I bring to every single fandom.

You don’t get to judge me, princess. I’m the Queen of Hell.”

Steve let out a whistle. “She’s got you pegged, Nance. You’re just pissed no one else would put up with your diva behavior once I was forced to drop out of the ballet company. Well, it’s not my fault your understudy didn’t know the correct way to jump. But then again, she shouldn’t have had to know it, but you refused to come out your dressing room because the flowers in the bouquet were red and not white.”

“The flowers are supposed to symbolize the purity of the love between Odette and Siegfried and red means passion,” Nancy huffed stomping her foot. “But look at you, Steve. You’re stripping for strangers, using your God given talents for titillation and seduction.”

Steve laughed. “You say that like it’s not as much work and effort to strip as it is to do ballet. And let me tell you, having done both? Stripping is way more fun. I get to smile for a start.”
