YES WE CAN! The CS for me is this amazing balance between everything you've mentioned above and Audrey's silent, almost lonely struggle to not collapse under the weight she's carrying on her shoulders.
We know that she and Siegfried share the inability to open up to people - due to experiences they've made throughout their lives, due to their upbringing and it's also a generational thing. They both need to feel safe before they do this and it's usually Siegfried who opens up to Audrey and not the other way around.
Was I longing for a hug? A touch? Holding hands? Physical closeness? Hell yes I was. But after having watched this episode 4 times and having discussed it for hours, days, I think what we were given in this episode is as important as physical closeness. It's the strong emotional bond between these characters. His ability to understand her and what she's going through and acting accordingly, is something you can only develop after years of living under the same roof, by listening to one another, by building a relationship that is based on trust and respect. And that is another important step in their relationship. To be able to feel what the other needs without having to ask.
Can we talk about how Siegfried, who is a profoundly emotional being, became a beacon of steadfastness, a quiet presence ready to serve, keeping vigilant, swallowing his own fear so he could be there for her?
How he knew too much about war to offer hollow niceties and false hopes that would strike her down if proven untrue but braced himself to become the unfaltering force that would keep her upright if it came to it?
How he was grateful to Tristan for being the counterpoint to that and staying optimistic because he also knew it was what she needed?
How he crumbled with her when the coast was clear, therefore revealing how much he he had been affected all along, because his own sense of self has long merged with her and if she falls he will hold her up but will be doing so on his knees because her pain is his pain?
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT?

Seven Gates!
Audrey to James: ‘Has he mentioned the gates, yet?’
*James looks puzzled*
Tumblr media
*And right on cue, before any explanation is possible...*
Siegfried: ‘You know he’s got seven gates?! Seven!’
Tumblr media
I just love how domestic they are, Audrey knows Biggins will be one of Siegfried's pet peeves to moan about, and she just knows he will tell everyone in the house about the Seven Gates incident 🤣 And Siegfried delivers his tale as soon as he has the opportunity to. 'Seven!'
One of my favourite Siegfried moments this series.
May your week not be encumbered by multiple gates 🤞🤣

tristan is really such a light in the show, i’m so delighted he’s back, and i also adore the way he further highlights the bond siegfried and audrey share.
the dread audrey felt when the telegram arrived, the shared emotion when she handed it over and the way she couldn’t bear to be far away while siegfried read it; their strong and fierce love for that boy unites them in such a personal way.
when she asked if siegfried wanted her to accompany him to the station to meet tristan, his face melted for a second before he kindly declined. he knows she’s there to lean on, to support him, and he truly couldn’t be more grateful for her as always. and then siegfried stood in the doorway watching tristan and audrey embrace, his family reunited again.
nobody else besides their parents or evelyn could really share in that worry and that love that they both have for tris, and i’m glad he has a mother figure in mrs hall. over the years she’s been at skeldale, it’s never been more apparent that she is so, so much more than their housekeeper.

FINALLY. I waited a day to watch it to do it on Christmas Eve.
Oh man that was so good. What a beautiful episode. Jamie Crichton said no word of a lie about how magnificent Anna Madeley was. What an actor. She delivered everything and more.
Regarding Siegdrey (not sure about that one but it’s quicker to say) it’s been a treat.
First of all, it’s minuscule but worthy of note, Audrey’s goose order, an order that she alone makes, herself, alone, is noted under the name of Farnon. As a cheeky code name. So everyone and their cousins will know it’s for Skeldale. Why include that line, I ask you? Utterly useless information. I hereby declare it foreshadowing and nobody can stop me.
As for the rest of it….
Watching over the fox all night….. Because for once the animal did not come first. She mattered more. In the grand scheme of things, his concern and care for her superseded his most profound conviction. And she was right, too. He saved the poor thing out of devotion to her. Cause she’s always right and is everyone’s saving grace. His own more than any other’s.
The BLANKET. Universal language for showing love when it’s impossible to do so openly. And his look of absolute felicity and tenderness, knowing he has good news to deliver once she wakes up.
His blatant inability to touch her screams repression. Whether it be when she’s falling apart or crumbling with relief. Speaking of relief, when she hears the news and he can barely stand because he’s so overcome, as if his own heart was connected to hers in that moment, was a thing of beauty.
This show. This fucking show.
Merry Christmas everyone!! 🎄

“Did they throw you out?”
“It was quite the scandal. ”
“How many times did you fall in love?”
“Oh, just once. Laila. My Arabian camel. She was exotic, feisty. She did have a tendency to get the hump, though.”

I love how Siegfried is such a happy, nice, and emotionally more open drunk.
(Obviously if he was a bad drunk that would be a huge red flag, especially for Audrey)
On the morning of James and Helen’s wedding, he explains how he took off his trousers on returning home drunk because they were muddy (Mrs Hall doesn’t like mud traipsing through her house), and then went in search of cheese for his new rat friend.
Tumblr media
And in 5.6, when he and Tristan are drunkenly walking the length of the Dales, he gets the giggles when Tris is giving him a piggy back
Tumblr media
And opens up to him about wanting to see him more and talk, and be brothers. By the end of the walk they’re closer than we’ve ever really seen them
Tumblr media
He’s the most adorable drunk. And it’s clearly a family trait because Tristan also is, returning home earlier in s5 and immediately deciding to hug Jess and Dash.
Tumblr media
The Farnon Brothers - the best drunks.
