The only things to break this pattern are in Side_B/Weird route but the way it breaks it makes this feel stronger (specifically after "acquiring" the Snow Ring) because you arn't getting options given by Kris, your getting what Kris wants
"Let's solve it together!"
"Sorry, I'll do the puzzle"
And what the Player wants
"❤ Proceed"
And it's right after this moment that Noelles dialog starts to heavily parallel Clara's at the end of Undertale's bad route
Then there's the ending of the Spamton NEO fight
"*Kris called for help..."
"*... but nobody came."
"*You whispered Noelle's name..."
I like to think at least some of the choice options are by Kris's influence. You click on a dummy. All you are doing is viewing the dummy. Even if the caterpillar is eating the dummy's clothes, there is no reason to think we should start eating it too. Maybe the player just wants to see how eaten they already are. But then we get the option to bite it ourselves, presumably because that's the internal choice Kris would be making if they were faced with this on their own.
Also, the actions taken after the player chooses to interact with something. In the NEO Basement fight, all I did was click on the machine again to see if anything have changed. Kris was the one who took that opportunity to start shaking and hitting it with increasing desperation, and the one who after that just gave No Response to clicking on it if I clicked on it after that. When you click on the book in the library, Kris is one who licks it, or closes the human book after you choose to open it, and has those responses to their journal. You're piloting them and choosing to interact with an object, prompting <something to happen> The player can't do Every Single Action In Existence like in real life, but once we've exhausted the extent our ability of choice by choosing to be there, Kris can <make something happen> of their own accord.
Like in the post Chapter 2 bathroom! once you click on the sink, the extent of what you can do, Kris's <empty action opportunity> move is to go through with the steps to remove the soul. (and then after that, our control doesn't resume after their <free response action> ends, so they can take movement/plot-scale choices that would be up to us otherwise, and then it resumes again in normal format after the SOUL is back.)
Also, circle back to the initial point, the "(Better not)" dialog box if you click no to eating dungeon moss after the narrator goes on that whole long thing about continuing the cycle reads to me like my *gets denied the opportunity to do something I wanted to do* *reluctant trying to make it less disappointing voice* "I mean it's probably for the best,, I'm not technically loosing anything by not doing it,," +maybe I'll do another playthrough and eat it then which was also kind of my internal dialog when I realized it wouldn't let me go back and eat it after clicking no.
Oh! Also, I think that some of the choices we don't get to make have to do with how thought the responses are. Flushing the toilet without using it is not more important than licking a book, but in our place they'd have to actively decide to flush the toilet, while you can make Kris pick up a book and they can just Impulsively Lick It to be funny without much thought on a yes/no choice.
And ACTS, like the toast! I choose to give her a toast in the versus Queen battls, but Kris was the one who made it a big "emotional" trucie-to-trucie for their <Give A Toast Action>. Like, yes, we made them do it, but they're the one actually doing it, and they could've done it however they wanted.
Something something we're piloting Kris around the story, but Kris The Person is actually experiencing and responding to what's happening within the confines of and while we're moving them.
lol this was originally just supposed to be about the this-or-that decisions where the choice you're making isn't one most people would think of a default choice in the first place being because it would be the internal choice Kris would be making in your place, which is also why the questions are what they are, even if one yes/no response is obviously one they wouldn't take, as opposed to, like, "Set the moss on fire" because that's not a choice Kris would think to genuinely think about in the first place, even if it was one they'd have a hard and obvious yes or no. Doesn't necessarily mean they would always see moss and pick "Yes" to eating it, regardless of the circumstances, but it is something they'd honestly consider.
(ex. They definitely didn't act like they wanted to take Asriel's five dollars, and I def don't think they would have gone through with it on their own, at least without feeling Big Guilt about it, but it was still a Choice That The Could Conceive Of, And As Such Had To Make, even if the choice only exists in thay they would choose no. By result, the player can make that choice, and, if that player wants, choose Yes.)
Obv, I think battles might be exempt from this theory to A Degree, I haven't thought about that aspect long enough to know if there's any holes there. It seems like they'd be aware on their own that they can Attack/Act/Item/Spare, and some of their Act options are different enough from what I'd do that I think maybe the Act choices might have to do with what they've considered as Possibilities Could Do in this situation, once again regardless of whether they'd actually do those things. That said, I don't know enough about the details of the weird route yet to know how consistently it holds up There, but!
anyhow I also ended up talking about to some of my other headcanons for Kris's agency placements and such because I find that genuinely interesting so. bit of a messy ask! it's more of a concept/theory sharing than actual question though.
yeah i definitely think that kris is the one offering the options we can choose between, and in light of that i've actually for a long time thought that the "nice to see you again" thing with sans was a trap kris set for us, to try and get help - kris has never seen this guy in their life, but they have some idea that we don't really know shit abt town yet, so they throw us off and try and get us to act Noticeably Weird in front of others
they definitely find a lot of room in the gaps we leave to do things, and it's interesting watching them like. actively find new ways to subvert us, like offering "choices" where if you take the one they don't want they just do it sarcastically djgklsdjgsdg
i love them a lot.

I'm thinking about the choice stuff with Kris and how when you're given a choice it feels like they're given by Kris. You choose from what your given, and then they choose how to say and/or act on it. But the 1-2 times it happens during Side_B it feels completely different. You only have 2 options. Exactly what Kris wants to say, and a single word deliberately chosen so that it can't be corrupted or changed to mean anything else, a way to assert total control
YEAH... and kris' are so like. apologetic and trying to reach out and trying to stop things.. still thinking about "protecting her from You" as a related note
