replying to this next ask like this cus i feel like there was some info in there that shouldn't be public (does not bother me! just didn't want it limelighted to my followers -- i hope you're doing much better nowadays and screw that jerk)
and don't fret! when i reply to asks im primarily talking to you, but im also talking to anyone who might be reading, so i was more using you as a launchpad to talk generally about how i interact w/ people. it is much less of an anxiety/'wanting to protect' thing (i actually despise policing people) and more of a.. general dynamic, I suppose?
Once you get to a certain age and interact with younger ppl a fair amount IRL the gap in maturity becomes much more apparent and it's not really anyone's fault? Again I'm fine with interacting w/ and being moots w/ minors, after all you're just people who have been alive for a shorter amount of time but I'm not about to go around following fourteen year olds that maybe aren't too keen on the stuff I post is all🤷‍♂️ (++ like you said my arts not THAT traumatic to look at i'd think.)
and yeah romeo is silly let's bully him
i wanted to go say "hey, I drew fh from that flower!scott thing" but i forgot that i'm anon
like, romeo knows about my blog bc of zedlidarity, no one on earth have au where jimmy appears on hc8, except this silly fiery flame guy (it's me!!)... romeo reblogs my arts, but im still anonning, tho i literally talking about those arts. it keeps me comfortable rn, maybe one day i'll stop sending asks anonymously, but not now for sure 😔
- 🔥
flame anon i must make a confession to you, I have actually been aware of your blog since long before you even started sending me asks (i think i started recognizing you from romeo's blog and searched up the tag for one of your rarepairs cus you said you made art and i was curious)
i have kept this information from you for i have been told occasionally that the people of tumblr find me.. somewhat intimidating? (for what reason i couldn't possibly fathom im literally just a guy)
plus i post a decent chunk of bloody and suggestive content and didn't want to freak anyone out if they just decided to scroll recklessly on my page (i still do not trust my own tagging system and ive had my art show up on the dashes of friends ive blocked so.., lmao)
but yeah in general i try to keep my interactions w/ other ppl outgoing as touch n go as i can 👍 i like chatting to ppl and looking at art but never wanna be in a position to make ppl feel uncomfortable or like they Have To talk to me, yanno? and since you were sending in messages as an anon i didn't wanna. creep you out lol.
but yes your art is very cool and i lurk ur blog all the time!!!! ur angsty jimmy comic u did recently ive reread maybe like five times now.

Drowning ( Kate Bishop) | Masterlist
Tumblr media
You were supposed to be strong. It was one of your defining character traits. You took pride in your strength, which is why you didn't like to let people see you at your weakest.
Currently, you were there.
You had failed a solo mission. They thought it was going to be a simple extraction, but turns out the enemies were expecting it. So it was you against all of them.
You fought until you couldn't fight anymore. You fought like if you didn't you'd die. By the time backup came, you were unconscious.
People were dead. Old, young, women, children; all dead because of you. At least that's how you felt. You had to leave the tower, your friends would try to comfort you, and you felt as though you didn't deserve it.
Thor could've done it, Wanda could've, Tony, Steve, Natasha, Bruce, hell probably even Clint, but you failed. You had innocent blood on your hands and that broke you internally. In your mind, there was no one to blame, but yourself.
You had been glued to the couch in your rarely used apartment. The last time you moved, being a mystery to yourself. The days bled into each other. The first few days, your phone rang relentlessly, but you never answered. It would probably still be ringing now if you didn't let it die.
There was a loud knocking on your door that brought you out of your head. You planned to ignore it.
" Don't you dare leave me standing out here all day, Y/n," Wanda's voice was muffled from the other side of the door, but still very recognizable.
You were reluctant to get off of the couch, but you couldn't leave her outside. All of your bones cracked as you got up from the couch. Your feet dragged on your way to the door.
You turned the lock and made your way back to the couch. Wanda let herself in, following after you. The apartment was cleaner than she expected. It looked as though nothing had been touched.
" I came to check on you."
" I'm fine," your response was short.
Wanda's eyes stayed on your figure," I brought you some food."
" Not hungry."
Wanda tried again," It's homemade. It's one of my favorites from Sokovia."
You relented a bit," You made it for me?"
The red head nodded," I did."
That's all it took for you to make your way to your dining table. Wanda sat the plate in front of you. After the first bite, you began devouring the food. You were uncertain when the last time you ate was, but you did know the food was delicious, and you were starving.
" You haven't been eating," Wanda spoke like it was a fact.
You were going to dispute it, but she had more to say," Or showering. Have you even moved from the couch?"
You stared down at the empty plate of food," It's great to see you too, Wanda."
" Stop deflecting and come on," she took your hand, dragging you away from the table.
She brought you into the master bedroom that you had yet to sleep in. You watched as she pulled out some pajamas from your drawers. She shoved them in your arms," Go shower."
" But-"
" No buts, Y/n. Except your butt in the shower."
Against every fiber of will in your body, you went into the master bathroom. The shower felt huge when you stepped inside. Almost as if it was going to swallow you whole. When the water touched your skin, you let out a heavy sigh. You needed this.
When you got out of the shower, you slipped on the pajamas and made your way back into the room. Wanda was in your bed, wearing your pajamas, watching something on the tv.
" So I take it you aren't leaving?"
She shook her head," Not a chance. Now, come get in the bed."
When your back hit the mattress, your body was grateful. The material was much more pleasant than the couch.
Once you were in the bed, Wanda moved closer to you and her hand rested on yours. You didn't intend for it to happen, but your head landed in her lap. Her other hand ran through your hair, soothing your worries.
" Talk to me, Y/n."
You let out a large breath," What do you want me to say? I failed everyone. People died because of me, Wanda."
" People died because of the bad guys. They died because the intel we had was wrong. Sending you on that mission by yourself was a mistake, but not because of your capabilities. It was too much pressure," she explained what you already knew deep down.
" You could've saved everyone," you muttered in her lap.
" I have powers, which aren't always reliable. I would've done the same thing you did; my best."
" I just-fuck," you felt the tears streaming down your cheeks. You tried to angrily wipe the tears, but Wanda stopped you.
She gently wiped them from your face, which made you cry even more. She repositioned your body so that she could hold you. Your head was buried in her chest and her arms were holding you in place.
" I'm supposed to be strong," it was a sob escaping your lips.
Wanda moved, so she could be face to face with you," Detka, you are strong. The strongest person I know."
" I failed those people, and all I want to do is sit here and cry about it. I've tried so hard not to cry, but it just hurts."
" It's ok to cry. It's ok to mourn them. You are allowed to feel, Y/n. Your emotions don't make you weak, they make you human."
You rest your forehead against hers, causing her breath to hitch," You always know what to say."
Your eyes were closed, but Wanda's searched every inch of your features," I think I just know you."
" Or you've been reading my thoughts."
Wanda smiles," Maybe I have."
" What am I thinking right now?"
That's when Wanda couldn't take it anymore. Her lips surged forward, capturing yours. Her lips were gentle as they melded with yours. They felt delicate against your slightly chapped lips. She didn't care, she just wanted to keep kissing you.
" You were thinking about kissing me," she spoke breathlessly after her lips detangled from yours.
" I guess you were thinking the same thing," your smile was plastered widely across your face.
" I have been for a while now," she blushed and turned to look away from you.
You snuggled into her further," Thank you for coming. I needed it, I needed you."
" I'll always be there when you need me Detka," she kissed the top of your head.
You let out a relaxed sigh and mumbled against the skin of her neck," Don't tell the other's that I'm a softie."
Wanda chuckled," I'll tell them you're my softie."
" I guess that doesn't sound too bad," your eyes began to drift close and you let out a large yawn.
Once your breathing was steady Wanda placed a soft kiss on your neck," My big softie."

your last anon got me thinking. notes absolutely matter so how do some people get 800 notes for one pic that was just taken in cas or smth? because it gets reblogged by big bloggers theres only like a few but they could post their sims thumb and everyone reblogs it. we participate in the culture you were talking about with anon if that makes any sense.
I reread the ask, and there wasn't a single mention of notes in there, unless you're referring to another ask, but like, lemme be 110% blunt here... bc I've always found this kinda fascinating when I see other ppl bring it up.
Ppl like pretty, cute and cool shit. Like have you seen how humans react when a kitten meows, they fucking lose their minds, if the sims in the cas pics got 800 notes, it's probably bc they're pretty, cute, or cool looking. Now are there times that society tends to skew what we find pretty, cute or cool looking that could be detrimental to others, yeah, but I'll admit it, I too enjoy an occasional sim with big goobery eyes, and a colorful outfit, it reminds of Animal Crossing, and I like Animal Crossing.
Followers. Some accounts got a lotta them, that means a lot more people will see their content, which means a lot more people will probably like it too. Though seeing as this is tumblr, and bots and lurker accounts are a thing, there will likely still be an offset in follower count to note count. I've got about 3,000 rn, and I average about 50-100 notes without reblogs, but can pull more of it does get reblogged.
Friends. Believe it or not, interacting with other humans will draw other humans to interact with you and your content, that's kind of a given, although if you don't want to do all that, you could always just learn to make really bomb ass CC, and let that draw followers in to look at your non-cc content, but I'm gonna be honest, even that isn't guaranteed. I've seen plenty of cc creators post about how they feel people only interact with their cc posts, and never their other stuff.
Social Media is a slot machine. Really when it comes down to it, it's luck, posting the right thing at the right time, yet never knowing when that'll be, this is also why ppl do time-zone reblogs. I ran a side-blog that was just my other gaming content, and it was like crickets for years, until Until Dawn was released, and I just happened to jump at buying it that day. I was posting content for it as it was at the height of its popularity. This meant more eyes scrolling the tags, which meant more thumbs to possibly like my posts. Timing and patience is so important on social media, especially when you're throwing content into a void. There were a lotta ppl getting hella notes when the infants dropped, bc it was this huge thing a lot of ppl were excited for, even ppl who don't consider themselves a simblr... but the hype only lasts so long, esp these days, and you've probably noticed lately things have kinda slowed down for a lotta ppl, but that's alright, the real ones always stick around, let's take a moment to appreciate them.
Sometimes you just gotta hype up your own shit. Idk, I learned this from a YouTuber, so take it with a grain of salt, but when they began actively reminding ppl to like, and subscribe, and began hyping up their upcoming content and streams, it helped engagement a lot. Ppl are drawn to positive ppl, it's just more fun for everyone.
This shit isn't magic, there's always a pretty logical reason why these posts get hella notes whether you agree with why or not, just like how there are posts that don't get hella notes that absolutely deserve more, whether you agree with why or not.

CCS: Clear Card Ch. 68
Chapter 68 is out! The latest chapter is currently available on CLAMP-net’s YouTube Channel. As always, do check out @meimi-haneoka's post on the latest chapter for any EN-JPN translation differences.
Links for previous chapter reactions can be found here.
Reading Reactions
SyaoSaku (Flight ver) cover page ♥ I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
THEY’RE HOLDING HANDS!! ♥♥
Can’t wait for them to hold hands now that the spell thing is over TuT
Wow, this library is gorgeous!
Normally water x books is like a huge no-no but with magic, anything is okay XD
“Was it something important” (referring the what the voice said to “Alice” Sakura that she forgot)--OF COURSE IT IS!! It’s her ultimate spell/motto! (Also noting how Sakura is looking more “Sakura” than “Alice” at this moment of “clarity”)
Lol totally not creepy seeing “Syaoran” with that smile.
I love how Momo is all “I’ll do whatever I want in my own terms/rules” (not like Kaito isn’t kinda also doing the same himself LOL)
Are ALL the books in this scene life records for people?? That’s quite amazing.
Ohh!! I think Akiho is becoming more of herself > Red Queen too!! She remembers parts of herself (with the important person bit)
AND THE PART ABOUT SAKURA’S NAME!
It makes sense that both girls are kinda regaining their sense of self through their continued exchange.
SAKURA!!
SYAORANNN!!
LOL a cat fight between two cat boys XD
Sakura shouting “Syaoran-kun!” ♥
I’m kinda crying. This moment for SyaoSaku ♥ TuT ♥
THAT’S RIGHT! ONLY ONE KINOMOTO SAKURA!!
Now Kaito’s spell has been undone~
Ohhh some interesting clan-related stuff.
WAHHHH ENDING BEFORE THE SHOWDOWN.
Okay but I’m so excited we’re getting Kaito vs Syaoran happening (hope we can get some cool action scenes in).
SO MUCH IS HAPPENING!
Okay but also no reveal of Akiho’s reactions after Kaito’s disguise got dispelled... I’m a bit concerned...
Also, I just love whenever they give a bit of extra “lore” to the bigger magical world that CCS takes place in. Kaito reveal bits of information about how the European Clan is interested in what’s happening with Li Clan (esp cuz of their connection to Clow). Yeah, I wonder why that deep interest in Clow--is it because of his reputation? Is it Sakura (with how powerful she’s becoming, she can be a threat or target for anyone out there--y’know aside from Kaito and whatever he has planned). OR MAYBE THERE’S A RELATIONAL CONNECTION!!! I had to check old notes, but for chapter 12 I threw in a random theory of maybe Akiho’s family is related to Clow’s father’s side of the family (cuz England, and also we never got info on that other side of the family--and later we had chapters of Eriol calling Syaoran talking about the European Magical Association and I was getting excited for a possible east meets west magical showdown). IS THIS IT THEN?? Cuz if they’re really related to Clow on the other side, that would be wild and kinda cool seeing how things are being connected here.
To end, I just want to say how fuzzy and warm I feel over SyaoSaku in this chapter. From the cover to the “SAKURA!!” and “SYAORAN-KUN!!” moments to the “You’re the only Sakura Kinomoto” (paraphrased)--ahhh I feel so so soooo (as Sakura would put it) “はにゃあん~“ over everything! Like remember those dreams Sakura would have where she sees Syaoran under the cloak (with that blank look in his eyes), or how people close to her not remembering who she is and all?? But then Syaoran, the real Syaoran who fought his way to stay in this world, just declares how there’s only one of her or just straight up reminds her of who she is (when she very literally couldn’t remember who she was herself)--that’s just so reassuring and affirming. I love that so much. I love them so much.

Dating Elvis 50s hc's
Tumblr media
Pairing: Elvis [or Austing!elvis] x fem!reader
Warnings: tooth rotting fluff 💪😈, tiniest miniscule amount of angst at the very end.
Note: I might do one of these for each of Elvis' "eras", lmk if that's something your interested in. Also 50s elvis with his little stutter is the cutest thing alive. This kinda short too I really have to get better at making longer fics :/. Also yes you will have to deal with my Elvis obsession for a obscene amount of time.
Xoxo, CC ♡
The two of you met when he was hired by your dad to fix some wiring in your house
You had seen him around school before but had never spoken too him as he was some years older than you.
The whole time just thinking why the sweet baby faced boy with the voice of an angel was wasting his time with his current job.
You saw that he was the embodiment of pure charisma, heart and soul. You thought he could do anything he dreamed to, and you had been just dying for him to ask you out.
Everything about him seemed attractive, his voice, his hair, his way of living
Little did you know the black haired beauty had his eye on you too
Even though Elvis doesn't have a lot of money he assures you that he's worth your while and one day he's gonna get you everything you could ever dream of.
He asks you out, a nice pizza place in town- nothing fancy though
He picks you up at 6pm sharp and you two take his work truck to the place.
He showed up at your door looking as clean as a saints soul, holding a beautiful bouquet of multicolored tulips
"I-I didn't know what kind you liked. Tulips are my mommas favorite so I got them. Hope th-thats ok with you."
He'll save up every last penny to buy you something real nice , a nice red lipstick, beautiful card, a book you've been wanting, ect.
But more often then not his gifts are home made, packed full of love and meaning and/or not even material gifts but rather emotional.
After all it's the little things that count.
He'll go pick wildflowers for you during his lunch break and deliver them to you with a sweetly written note.
He always makes sure he looks his best, after all you only deserve the best. Hair always styled to perfection, shirts never having a single wrinkle, and shoes shined as often as they can be.
Sings you to sleep and makes breakfast in bed for you.
"Fresh cup of coffee for the sleepy head"
*head kisses*
Always opens the door for you, pulls out your chair, fixes your hair for you.
Gives you the biggest bear hugs and always loves to have you close.
At first he was so darn nervous around you always speaking with his stutter and afraid you wouldn't like him back.
You reassured him that you think he's the most beautiful soul you've ever met.
He'll take you to his favorite club after school to hear all his favorite singers.
You'll take him to drive in movies and kiss in his car (once he can afford to get one ofc)
You sometimes walk to his work and bring two packed lunches for you both. Can't go on having your man being hungry, or eating alone.
He'd be a little scared to show you his home, afraid you'd suddenly realize just how little money he's got and run for the hills[but that never happened ofc]
He introduced you to his mother and father, gleaming with pride as he showed them his new girlfriend.
Gladys loves you, at first she was a bit jealous of you for stealing her son away, but after seeing you encourage him to keep on dreaming her mind changed.
You also introduced him to your family, he was terribly nervous, but nothing could ever be too bad with you by his side.
When he starts trying to make a name for himself with singing, you make sure to buy every record, go to every gig, support him in any way you can.
When he goes touring for the first time you get very lonely, not used to him being so far away. Elvis calls you nearly every hour he can, he calls you more than his mother calls him.
You might drive to one of the states he's performing in and surprise him.
Always amazed at his voice and how aluring he seemed to be, you'd fall in love with him all over again.
Singing and dancing together is a must.
If you can't sing, he'll teach you.
If you can dance, he'll teach you.
Hell he might even teach you to play the guitar or the piano if he feels like it[bonus points if you already can]
He takes you to your prom and your obviously the prom king and queen 🙄🙄🙄
When he starts making some real money he'll be so happy to finally get you some really nice things.
Braging to all your friends that you date a movie star-
A new car, dresses, winter coat, puppy dog, kitten, record player, sewing machine, chess set- whatever you think you might want some day, you get it.
"Well what's mine is yours lil' darling"
You don't know how many times you've told him off for spending his hard earned money on you but he just can't seem to listen.
" just let me buy you these nice pearls mama, that's the last thing I promise."
Ofc that's the first of the soon to be massive pearl necklace collection
He invites you to move into Graceland, making sure you have your own rooms and spots just for you, or you and him.
He knows his feelings are serious, they run deeper than he could ever know
He's used to having a list full of phone numbers in his pocket, flirting back with anyone who did
But now the thought of flirting with someone else disgusts him
the pages with phone numbers have been forgotten in the trash somewhere
it's strange for him to never look at any other girl, it surprises you too.
But he only needs you and he doesn't understand why but he trusts his heart.
Oh and dont be mistaken, You are just as in love with him as he is with you~
When the news he must be sent off to Germany for two whole years reaches your ears you can barley think.
Elvis kisses away your tears and promises his swift return.
"One day- soon, I'-Im gonna m-marry, marry you. Just you wait and see."
Yes all you have to do is get through 2 lonely years and you'll be the happiest person to ever live again.

Anakin Assists the Jedi Council While On Medical Leave
AU brainstormed primarily by @atagotiak, @gelpenss, and myself.
Basically, a fix-it based in Anakin getting a peek into the daily life on the Council early, and accidentally Figuring Some Shit Out along the way, mostly because Palps Fucks Up.
So, Anakin gets injured in a way that limits him to Coruscant for a few weeks. He can still walk and talk, but he can't fight. The specific injury doesn't matter, just this:
Anakin runs errands on behalf of the council and sits in on meetings to take minutes as a "you're on medical leave but we need all hands on deck, congrats you get to be the secretary until we can send you on stabbing missions again" thing.
Also, there just aren't a whole lot of people with Anakin's clearance level. They had to send out Stass Allie to handle the mission that was originally next on Anakin's roster, and Anakin's the most convenient person to substitute into her position.
He's not super happy about this but he can more or less understand the point of it. Given that he gets antsy about needing to fight almost immediately, he can acknowledge the worth of having something useful to do, if only as the person who's writing down who says what and making sure everyone has the right file on hand.
(Besides, Obi-Wan jokes in a way that Anakin thinks might be encouraging, this is good practice if Anakin ever wants to be on the High Council himself!)
(This is a very helpful conversation.)
BASICALLY, Anakin is resigned to this but agrees because "Usually we have Master Allie handle this but we need her running that mission that was originally set for the 501st, so you get to fill in for her until you can switch back. Think of it as training for eventual mastery or admin or--listen, we're just really stretched thin."
Here's the key thing, though: Anakin isn't supposed to leave the Temple, for medical reasons, so Palpatine doesn't know Anakin is sitting in on Council meetings. They haven't met up since Anakin's last surgery, and because [muffled hand-wave reason] he didn't find out another way, like Anakin comming him or the Council giving him the heads-up about the change in attendance.
It's fine. He's just taking notes and doing preparatory research, he has the clearance, the Chancellor likes him anyway. Hell, they'd have had someone's Padawan doing this, before the war increased the necessary clearance levels. They'll toss in a quick message in the brief they send to Palps that he never reads anyway, and that's really all they need to do. Skywalker's getting some rounded experience and this way the medics won't be freaking out about him stressing his heart after getting electrocuted by trying to spar too early.
Palpatine doesn't talk directly to the Council, he just sends a recording the first time Anakin is there. It's a bit weird, but nothing goes wrong. Anakin's off-screen from whatever device they use to send a response, since he's not technically a member, just assisting for a bit on the part of Master Allie's duties that he's actually allowed to touch (and not the bits that are getting added to Mace, Plo, and Shaak's stuff).
The first four or so meetings are like that. Anakin starts having a bit of sympathy for the Council as he sees how many things they want to do that are hampered by the need for Senatorial approval, things that he would also want to do and didn't think required this much red tape.
About a week in, still mostly recordings with Anakin just sitting on the side playing paralegal, the wheel of fortune turns a few pegs.
Palpatine hands over a an order on the range of injury that a soldier should be treated for, "to ensure that republic resources aren't being wasted on clones that, while expensive, would actually be cheaper to replace than repair."
Oh, he dresses it up in prettier language than that. Anakin doesn't process it as such first.
The Chancellor manages to couch his phrasing in "prioritizing resources for taxpaying republic citizens and employees of the GAR," which... well.
The natborn commissioned officers pay taxes. The Jedi are employees. The clones are neither, because they're slaves.
Probably he frames it as the employees thing, very much the kinda language that sounds halfway ok unless you’re fluent in political bullshit.
And Anakin is really confused at first about why the council is upset by the order because, okay, he would PREFER to be able to use medical supplies on refugees when possible, but he understands prioritizing the soldiers?
He just looks up, totally lost, when someone groans and goes, "That's the third time this year, is he trying to get us all killed?"
And it vibes as such a genuine, aggrieved, sad reaction that Anakin is completely blindsided because it's not the sarcastic, petty resentment he kind of expected? It's just... desperate depression.
And someone gently has to explain that this is the third time they've had resources restricted to only GAR employees and that it's a polite way of saying "prioritize natborn officers, stop wasting resources on clones, we can replace them easier."
Or maybe he doesn't ask, because he's just there to take notes, not argue, and he can see the masters drawing up a response that amounts to "We would like to remind you that our soldiers do not fall into that classification, and to limit their access to our medical supplies is liable to cause a loss of life that we find unreasonably high. Please see the annotations attached to adjust wording so that the clones may receive the same level of care."
Anakin's internally just like "Yeah, that's phrased nice and addresses the main problem, Palpatine will obviously agree and change it!"
And then he comes in the next day and the response comes in and it's just dripping condescension about considering the clones actual people.
"This is why we can't use the bacta tanks on clones anymore, just the patches. We could use them at first, we had a few of the CCs get through fatal injuries with them, but they cut that off and said we could only use the tanks on Jedi and non-clone officers a few months ago. The Banking Clans keep tightening their belts on the army, and the Chancellor insists we put citizens first, and the clones aren't citizens. We've been arguing back as much as we can, but he keeps going on about the economy and we can't... we just can't, Skywalker. We're trying to save as many of our men as we can, but..."
Something like "Allocation of resources reiterated, the Kaminoans have assured the senate that the Jedi are far from exhausting the resources ordered."
And Anakin's like. He can't blame the council for lying about Palpatine's past or future actions. He just saw Palpatine's actions. Those actions were to order people under his control to throw away lives he saw as replaceable commodities.
These are his friends' lives.
His soldiers are being thrown away by a man in a tower that he trusted.
And then that man has the gall to suggest it's the council's fault.
Palpatine is good at what he does, especially in public, he dresses it up in flowery language and everything, but Anakin's just like "Those are my FRIENDS and also this is??? How slavers talked about their property on Tatooine???? FRIENDPATINE, WHAT THE FUCK."
Anakin can be passive aggressive sometimes as well as outright aggressive. So if he brings up the guidelines and why they make him upset in general terms, and Palpatine says something about how he’s sad the council doesn’t care about the clones...
Anakin, internally, having just watched the council scramble to save as many clones as possible within the guidelines that Palps handed down: Uh-huh.
(Anakin is just the gay horror teeth gif from queer eye.)
Tumblr media
Just. “Yeah, funny you say that, Palpatine! Because as I remember, you told the council not to waste more resources than necessary while Mace Windu was arguing to expand the treatment range!”
Palps doesn't even have time to salvage the situation or attack Anakin because Anakin just bulldoze rants for fifteen minutes and then storms out.
Anakin... maybe does a little treason and gets a copy of the orders so he can ask Padme "Hey, can you explain the politics of this?" and doesn't tell her who wrote it so she isn't biased (he tells her that this is why he's not sharing the author's/speaker's name), and just lets Padme pick apart all the 'this is a nice way of saying they don't view the clones as people' details.
Alternately, someone on the Council sees Anakin dithering and manages to get him to admit that he's not great at political language and wants to ask someone to help him understand the full implications. The person--Mace? let's go with Mace--is aware that Anakin is on good terms with Senator Amidala, if not necessarily aware of the depth of said relationship. Mace points out that he's probably going to be seeing her soon just because he usually does and, as a Senator, she can get easy access to these sessions since they're not about specific missions, just allocation of resources, etc. It's not an optimal solution, but she's got a bit more free time than anyone else Anakin knows with the clearance levels, like Order members that are actively involved in the war effort.
Anakin dithers and panics and Mace, trying to be helpful, tells him that plenty of Jedi have made friends among the Senate over the years, didn't you know Qui-Gon Jinn was a personal friend of Former Chancellor Valorum?
At any rate, Anakin goes to Padme and asks her to explain it to him, because she knows how to phrase things so he gets it.
Anakin has to have her pause and he goes outside and destroys some things halfway through.
(Anakin maybe thinks back to the times Padmé or Obi-Wan were really obviously frustrated and when he asked, they said stuff like “I can’t stand Palpatine rn, sorry Anakin I know he’s important to you and you don’t want to talk about politics, let’s just talk about something else.”)
(Obi-Wan: I don’t trust Palpatine Anakin: you just don’t like politicians in general Obi-Wan: yes that is also true)
(Obi-Wan does like Bail and Padme but he does also talk a bit about how politicians generally aren’t to be trusted.)

Why I loved jschlatts villain character
/dsmp /rp
He was introduced as Tommy’s hero. The whole stream was him following them around and causing confusion and chaos
Never lets anyone one up him, will dominate anyone with words. Seriously this guy is such an ENTP
That being said, was all bark no bite. Managed to convince/ manipulate people to do what he wants. In one stream he was armorless and surrounded by mobs and nearly died but was like “omg u gotta help me” and Tommy did lol
HIS VILLAIN SPEECHES?? FUCKING ICONIC Had some of the most memorable lines in all of the dream smp
“My first decree as the president, the EMPORER, of this great country!!! Is to revoke the citizenship of Wilbur soot and tommyinnit!!!”
Fucking chills
The story needed more conflict and everyone kinda wanted to be on team good guy so Schlatt was like: fine I’ll do it myself
Originally ran as president because.,,,, he probably just wanted to cause problems
99% sure he was drunk that day
HIS SCREAM LAUGH???? Superb villainy
The cc doesn’t stream and therefore no one to entertain. He did this all for himself
Literally had no reason to be evil, was just like “I am going to make a character that is so evil and sexy” and we were all like good for him
The suit??? The tie?? The horns??? This villains got style. C!dream take notes teletubby
He didn’t have much depth but my god he did perfect in his role as evil dictator dude
Also the chill streams were so funny, him and quackity’s date felt like the villain couples just chilling after a day of wreaking havoc
Never dropped character even for a second
He always seemed one step ahead,,, he knew tubbo was a spy and planned the festival,,, he knew of the tnt under lmanburg,,, he had a revival book somehow and got dream on his side,,,
Took the L out of lmanburg which was ingenious because it meant they didn’t lose, and also Americanized it cuz they originally added the L to sound more European
Flatty Patty
Whenever he called Wilbur “lover boy” ohgoshoshithhhh
Immediately tried flirting with technoblade the moment he showed up to get him on his side
Was able to tear pogtopia against each other by making techno kill tubbo
I don’t even have to explain why making tubbo decorate his own execution was brilliant storytelling
He was intimidating, personally affected the “protagonists,” had an air of mystery and charisma, but .... he was also weird. He’s a weirdo. He doesn’t fit in, and he doesn’t want to. You ever see him without his stupid suit? That’s weird
Got high off protein powder 24/7
While high on said protein powder would randomly start lifting weights. Can’t miss leg day ig
“WÒÖØØØŌÔÒÕÕ”
This guy should be a voice actor
Didnt know how to swim but kept forgetting he didn’t know how to swim and had to be repeatedly punched out of water
I honestly thought his death was done really well- he pushed everyone away from him and spiraled into an addiction to alcohol and protein powder, and at the end of his time he was surrounded by everyone he pushed away. No one helped him when he was in pain. All just stared with pitiful and cold eyes. A pathetic way to go for a pathetic man.
TLDR: c!schlatt will always have a special place in my heart because I love me some Funny bastard villains.
Also a fusion of dream and Schlatt would be Bill Cipher I am not wrong ever
Feel free to add on !!
Edit:
offered alcohol to tubbo at one point- “here tubbo u gotta try some of this” tubbo being the responsible one “no thank you schlatt I don’t think that’s a good idea”
Fell off cliffs a lot
Never would run. God his character looks so dumb I fucking love it
Seems like he and c!Wilbur had a history, like exes or something.
The iconic “His Vice President stole my women!!! And Wilbur .... *sobbing* he stole my heart” :(
“If I die, this country goes down with me.” Well he wasn’t wrong
I completely forgot about him tearing down the Lmanburg walls! He was also about to take down the caravan, but.... guys just watch’s tubbo or quackitys POV of Election Day, u won’t regret it
The boxing match during the festival was so funny. Everyone had to take off their armor , and schlatt who never wore armor went up against fundy. Right as the bell rang he put on all diamond armor and murked fundy. A true summary of his character
“If you want your ass to get fatter, your gonna have to start doing squats with a liTTLE MORE WEIGHT ON IT BIG BOYYYY”

Note
I was reading your co-signing the narrative post- great post btw- and your thoughts on Kit Lightwood helped me figure out exactly what bothers me about the way other characters talk about and treat him.
So, there’s this kind of this running “joke” in TLH that Christopher’s interests are boring, that everyone else puts up with it him as though it’s this big nuisance, that everyone zones out hearing him talk… and on and on and on.*** And then there’s this scene where Grace is genuinely interested or at least not bringing him down about his self-expression and the things that bring him joy, and that’s romanticized as special when it’s really kind of the bare fuckin minimum. Like, I’m not saying James/Matthew/Thomas had to immerse themselves completely in every sciency detail but the constant “jokes” implying that Christopher’s work is boring or incomprehensible or not worth their time is just so tiring. There’s always an undercurrent of “Christopher’s just playing around uselessly” (which is not true and even when he’s having fun with his work then it’s still automatically WORTHY and VALUABLE because it makes him happy!) Not to mention this recurring problem directly contradicts the value that Christopher’s work has (beyond its inherent value) when he sends it into the world to literally save lives: the poison antidote, the fire messages that will probably come about in CoT.
And the thing is, the merry thieves’ disinterest is directly meant to foil grace’s interest in order to lend the Grace/Kit relationship a certain significance, as CC assigns to it. I’m not saying shared excitement over an interest/hobby/career/field/etc isn’t sweet platonically or romantically. I just really dislike how the idea CC is using is “no one else can bear to tolerate Kit’s ‘quirks’ but Grace, and that is Endearing, and so they are Soulmates (TM)” rather than the much healthier and positive idea that “Kit does cool sciencey stuff which his family and friends generally don’t share as strong a passion for but still don’t huff about it like it’s somehow a chore or a burden on them, and then Grace comes along and she does happen to share a similar passion and that’s the beginning of their ties to one another.” That second reasoning is what could make their friendship really refreshing; we don’t need ableism poorly twined into romance to enjoy that relationship.
I haven’t read TDA in a while but I’m thinking we could also find touches of this with Ty partly because so much of when we see him is from Kit’s POV? Not that Kit means harm or thinks himself heroic but CC on the other hand is a repeat offender in “abled/white/straight/cis character is ultimately and completely responsible for the salvation of disabled/POC/queer character in this aspect.” And I’m kind of half dreading the wicked powers for that reason among others …
I apologize if all this seems obvious or rambly. I do sometimes have trouble articulating things exactly but when I read your post i had a lightbulb moment and I wanted to note it down.
Have a great day!
***Side Note: this is why I really enjoy fan-created content that explores Christopher’s relationships with people (even people he didn’t interact with on-page in the canon) without that annoying and problematic aspect built into the framework of the relationship.
^^^^^^^^^THIS ALL OF THIS!!!!!!
Full disclosure this is gonna be kind of long sorry. But you have stumbled across my favourite topic to rant about. Allistic saviorism. Basically the name is pretty self explanatory. It's when an allistic person fictional or otherwise has the desire to or actively attempts to essentially "save" the autistic person from the horrors of the world or their life, or even themselves because they think that the autistic person isn't strong or capable enough to fix/handle it on their own. All of this is usually done for very self serving reasons. Part of this is also allistic people being praised as heroes for being nice to autistic people or asking them out, or loving them.
I don't neccesarily think that kitty is an allistic savior ship on it's own. I think that there are definitely peices of those beliefs scattered throughout the books and it might get worse in TWP. That's honestly something that I'm worried about too tbh. But honestly I think that the fandom made it a billion times worse.
This mainly allistic fandom wanted to romanticize the idea of Kit taking care of Ty and shouldering the burden of his "unpredictability." Kit is the only one who can get through to Ty. The only one who understands the mystery that is Ty 🙄. Some of this is canon too. For example, Ty can look Kit in the eye, he lets him touch him. He doesn't wear the headphones when Kit's around right? And Kit was able to calm him down during his meltdown.
And while some of this is really cute from a romantic perspective, it's also kinda problematic because it reeks of allistic saviorism. It promotes the idea that Kit is like Ty's "cure." And that's just impossible.
And honestly I know I've contributed to this in some ways. Because if I'm being perfectly honest with you, there's a part of me that enjoys that. The romantization of autism.
The idea of being taken care of.
The idea that someone could love an autistic person and see them as "beautiful" and "extraordinary" and all the things Kit calls Ty, was incredibly moving and appealing to me as a kid. It still is. Because I grew up on stories of charity cases and allistic saviorism making headlines with prom dates. I was super secretive about it, but I was always a romantic growing up. But I thought that it was impossible for me to have a real love story because people like me don't get that. (Not to get all sob story on you sorry. I overshare. It's an autistic thing.)
And there are some really compelling things about kitty that really do work. And I'm not trying to suggest that Kit learning to help Ty with the ...shall we say more colourful traits of his disability is a bad thing always. It's not. But I think the issue is with Ty's lack of pov and Ty's lack of a narrative in the books. It makes him seem like less of a completely developed character and more like, "Kit's" you know?
And because we don't have Ty's pov we don't really get what makes Kit have this sort of calming effect on him or why it's different. And more importantly we don't get why Ty's letting him in, we only get Kit pushing past his boundries. The entire thing becomes about Kit essentially and that's at the root of all allistic saviorism.
Also like you mentioned before, Kit is seen as special to a certain extent because he can handle Ty. That's not neccesarily something the character believes obviously, but again with CC co-signing the damn narrative with the way she makes the impact Kit has on Ty such a big deal in everyone's eyes and in QOAAD she really emphasizes the drain Ty's necromancy plan is taking on Kit, suddenly Ty's grief becomes all about Kit and with no pov from Ty, it's more allistic savior bs.
Honestly most of this isnt actually THAT bad it's just when you throw it all together and look at the ugly history and let's be honest present, of autistic people being silenced and spoken over by our caregivers and loved ones and we are treated like burdens on them, and how those people are praised for loving us, it kinda looks bad. But the fandom definitely made it worse.
I always get criticized for criticizing kitty by allistic people with, " well if you think they're so toxic then why do you even ship them?" Which is a piss poor take lacking in any nuance. An autistic person has the right to critique a dynamic involving an autistic character. More to the point, you can love something and be critical of it. I swear when this fandom finally figures that one out... we could accomplish so much.
I'm really hoping this is making sense it's like 2 in the morning. As for Grace and Christopher's dynamic I agree with you. I basically have nothing to add. Bare minimum. Should not be idolized. The way the others treat him should not just be brushed off as no big deal. It's ableism.
Basically it's just a bunch of classic mistakes that come from a neurotypical abled writer writing nd characters. Some mistakes are more damning then others. But it does make me scared for TWP.
I can only hope.

Had Nines not been a member of the 212th for nearly two years, he’d probably be wondering if all of his general’s missions went this muja-shaped so fast. Well. Actually, he’d probably be dead. He rather liked not being dead, and hoped to keep it that way, despite the absolute and utter chaos happening around the Citadel’s lower airfield at the moment. The air was a haze of colors as blue, red, and green blaster bolts zipped through the air, combined with the five lightsabers whirling about the generals and commander. But right now, Nines was really trying not to die while pinned down behind this cargo crate.
The noise of a door drew his attention--ever so briefly--as yet more clankers emerged from the hellish prison. He could only take a glance before he had to duck back behind the large cargo crate he and two ARCs were using for cover. He looked over at the pair, watching one--Echo or Fives, he couldn’t quite recall at the moment--launch a charge at the new droids. Nines felt the detonation, and twisted back around to send some bolts towards the scattered droids. Kriffing hells, commando droids? Again? Stars, he really hated those buggers.
“General Skywalker!” Nines barely caught the tail end of the ARC’s warning as he returned to cover. “A droid is manning one of those turrets. They’re gonna blow up the shuttle, sir.”
Oh, hells no. Nines looked up, locating General Skywalker and General Peill on the little flying craft they’d commandeered from incoming assailants. It looked like they were heading towards the turret, then they disappeared over the edge of the cargo crate.
“This is our only chance!” Nines heard behind him from the same ARC. “We have to stop him.” He looked over just as one of the pair disappeared around the side of the crate, the other close on his heels.
“Echo no!”
Nines jogged over, hoping to cover the pair. Echo was running towards the shuttle’s ramp with a shield dropped by one of the commandos. Nines looked and saw at the same time as Fives--if that was Echo, the one still standing here was Fives--the commando droid at the turret’s controls turning the blaster barrels towards the shuttle.
Nines felt a horribly familiar cold lump sink into his gut as the seconds seemed to slow, green turret rounds creeping closer and closer to Echo and their only way out of this Maker-abandoned pit. But it seemed time hadn’t slowed for Fives, who was suddenly reaching to the ascension cable at the back of his utility belt.
He attached it to his blaster, aimed at his brother, and fired.
There was the distinct sound of the cable striking plastoid. A huge noise followed, managing to drown out the whizz of blaster fire. A wave of light and heat washed over the immediate area as the shuttle exploded. Nines’ eyes followed a chunk of the ship as it flew over the landing pad and destroyed the turret and the droid manning it, but then his attention was back on Fives. Fives, who was drawing in his ascension cable desperately as the rest of the strike team collected by the last way out of the landing pad.
“We need to go,” General Kenobi said, and no one was going to argue. “Now.”
“Fives,” Captain Rex stood next to his ARCs.
Fives was kneeling on one knee over Echo’s unmoving, singed, and smoking form, hastily detaching the cable from his brother’s chestplate. “I got him,” he said, and even for all the training he had, anyone would hear the distress underlining the urgency of his actions.
Nines cast his eyes over the fallen ARC. The plastoid of Echo’s boot had melted in the intense heat of the shuttle’s explosion. It wasn’t coming off until a medic was there to cut it off. Nines was grateful now for the filters in his bucket, keeping the smell of burning blacks and probably flesh out of his nose. Taking another look, he saw Echo’s right arm had suffered similar injuries--the side unprotected by the shield. But, judging by Fives’ concerted efforts, he was still alive.
As the team retreated, Fives finally stowed his cable and his blaster on his belt, hefting his brother across his shoulders and hauling them both up. Nines lagged between the two parties, waiting until Fives had caught up before picking up his pace.
“No man left behind, right?” Nines said, low enough to keep it between them.
“Not a kriffing chance,” Fives huffed.
_____
In a whirlwind of sulfurous stench, near misses, anoobas, crawling over lethal lava lakes, and the unfortunate death of General Peill, the greatly reduced strike team was finally aboard General Koon’s gunship. Fives carefully lowered his brother to the floor, leaning him against the wall. Captain Rex maneuvered over to them, standing between them and the other occupants like a human privacy screen as the gunship flew far, far away from the stinking hell that was The Citadel.
It was another hour or so before Nines had the chance to find them again. Echo’s injuries were the worst to come out of the mission, mostly because of the sheer number of casualties. Nines himself only suffered some relatively superficial bumps and bruises, so he was cleared from medical quickly.
“Where are you off to, Nines?”
The commander, too, had been quickly cleared, it seemed. Nines turned and waited for Commander Cody before starting for the other medbay rooms again. “Sir, I thought I’d check on the two ARCs. Fives and Echo?”
The commander nodded, switching his helmet to under his other arm. “I was gonna check on Rex, and he’s probably with them. I’ll come with.”
“The captain’s pretty fond of them, then?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe,” the commander smiled, though there was something bittersweet in the expression.
As he’d predicted, they found the captain and Fives outside one of the medbay rooms. Rex was seated on the bench between doorways, his bucket on the floor between his feet, a water bottle in one hand. Fives was on his feet, pacing back and forth in front of the room, his eyes only leaving the windows briefly at every pass. His bucket was resting on the ground near the captain’s.
When the two caught sight of Nines and Cody approaching, Rex made to stand, but the commander gave him a sharp look. “Sit down, Rex.” The captain slumped back down on the bench, where the commander soon joined him. “What’s the word?”
“There hasn’t been any kriffing word,” Fives growled, still pacing.
The commander’s brows scrunched. “It’s been over an hour.”
“I know,” Fives shot back with far more force than Nines would ever use towards a commander.
But Cody took it in stride, barely reacting to the added bite in the ARC’s words. He just nodded and leaned back against the wall like Captain Rex, whom he asked, “Have you both been looked over?”
The captain nodded. “Yeah, we’ve been cleared.”
Nines watched Fives pacing back and forth. He hadn’t gotten much of a chance to talk to Echo or Fives before the whole strike team went into carbonite. But, clearly, Fives needed a distraction. Nines had been around long enough, battle after battle, to recognize that.
He took a step forward, clearing his throat. “Hey, uh… Fives. What was it you were telling me about before we left? That… number group?”
Fives paused in his pacing, and some of the stress on his face replaced by slight confusion, then recognition. “Right. Yeah.”
The captain raised an eyebrow at them both. “Number group? Fives, how many people are you gonna tell about those guys?”
“Well,” Nines began, “he had a good reason. I’m CT-9999. Nines, sir.”
The captain chuckled. “I see.”
“Yeah, he didn’t get much out before we had to go under. Anything else I should know about these guys?”
Fives finally stopped pacing and sighed quietly, looking over through the medbay windows. “Yeah, okay.” He rubbed his eyes, his shoulders lowering as some of the fight left his system. It appeared he’d realized Nines was only trying to take his mind off his injured brother, and was giving in to the plan.
“Why don’t you get cleaned up while you’re at it, Fives,” Captain Rex told him, and despite the wording, it wasn’t a question.
“But--”
“Echo’s not going anywhere,” the captain said, cutting off Fives’ protests. “I’ll stay here, and I’ll comm you the second I hear anything.”
Fives sighed again. The captain had won, Nines knew. The ARC trudged over to collect his helmet from the floor by his captain’s boots. As he straighted up, the captain caught the back of his neck and pressed their foreheads together long enough to murmur something inaudible. Nines knew it wasn’t for him to hear anyway. But Fives nodded when he was released, and even Cody reached up to pat his chestplate. Huh.
“Food first or shower first?” Nines asked when he walked over to him. “‘Cause I’m starving.”
“Yeah, me too,” Fives admitted. “But, I think I wanna get the stink of that place out of my armor before I try eating anything.”
_____
After a fast shower, even by GAR standards, Nines found Fives sitting on the floor outside the ‘freshers in just his blacks and boots with his kit and a wet cloth, in the middle of wiping off the worst of the grime from the mission. He had paused, however, and was now fiddling with his wrist comm. Nines sat down next to him with his own kit to do the same.
“Any news?”
“No, I just remembered something…” Fives replied, clearly occupied. Finally, his comm blinked green as it connected with someone else’s. “Loops?”
There was a hesitant answer. “Fives…? Why can you comm me while I’m in hyperspace?”
Fives smiled triumphantly. “Don’t worry about it. Are you busy right now?”
“I mean… it can wait an hour or so. Why?”
“You wanna pop down to the mess hall for a bit?”
There was a pause. “Are you onboard?”
“Maybe.”
Loops stuttered out a few indignant syllables before demanding, “Did we just haul ass across hyperspace to pull you out of The Citadel?”
“Well, not just me, but yeah. Thanks, by the way, for whatever small part you played in getting us the hell out of there.”
“What in the nine hells were you doing in The Citadel, Fives?”
Fives rolled his eyes. “Can you just meet me in the mess and I’ll tell you?”
Another pause. “Fine, but I’m not happy about it.”
Even if Fives hadn’t filled Nines in on who Loops was on their way to the mess hall, it would have been fairly obvious by the large eight tattooed on his cheek, much the way Fives’ tattoo was obvious. Loops was CT-8888, and his face only dropped its suspicious scowl at Fives when Nines introduced himself.
“Nines? Really?”
“Hey, I said we could get our hands on him,” Fives said around a mouthful of rations. He and Nines had gotten their food and found a table before Loops had shown up.
“Yeah, and the commander said he’d be dead by the end of the mission,” Loops shot back across the table.
Nines raised an eyebrow. “Well, I’m not dead…”
“Which is wonderful,” Loops assured him.
“And… which commander?”
Loops looked at Fives, who took the opportunity to take a long drink. “You didn’t tell him about the commander?”
When he finished, Fives shrugged, wiping his mouth and smiling. “I think it’s better when you find out organically.”
“Maker, you and Sevenset are two of a kind,” Loops said, shaking his head. “Hey, where’s Echo?”
“Medbay.”
“Is he okay?”
Nines watched the shadow of worry fall across Fives’ face, but he seemed to shake it off. “I don’t know yet.”
Loops dipped his chin, looking sympathetic. “Oh. I’m sorry.”
Fives tried to give an assuring smile, but it didn’t quite land. “Yeah, well… it’s not gonna kill him. So.” He poked the remaining cubes of food on his tray with his fork.
His friend nodded, understanding that, sometimes, injuries weren’t so straightforward to fix. Clones had been decommissioned for some pretty mundane reasons, and everyone knew it. “Well, hey,” he said, “you’re both alive, and so is Nines. You can prove the commander wrong if nothing else.”
“Well, you’ve got a point there.”
“Do you wanna do that now, or…?” Loops asked, slowly raising his wrist comm and opening a text channel.
“We’re in hyperspace,” Nines reminded him.
He frowned, putting his arm back on the table and resting his chin on it. “I hate hyperspace.”
Nines could understand. Usually, he was too busy to complain, but now he was a bit at odd ends. But before he could voice his commiseration, Fives’ comm pinged, and a second later, Fives sprang up from the table, food and tray almost forgotten.
“That was Rex, I gotta go,” he said, already hurrying away to deposit his tray before dashing out the door.
Loops had made no move to follow him, and Nines knew there would be no room in the medbay for them regardless. “Hope it’s good news,” Loops said. Nines nodded.
_____
Fives skidded to a stop, narrowly avoiding crashing directly into Rex in front of Echo’s room in the medbay. Rex grabbed his upper arms to help him stop.
“What is it? What happened?” Fives demanded, only just noticing the Wolfpack medic standing by. He looked regulation except for a large geometric tattoo on the left side of his neck.
“Take a breath, Fives,” Rex told him. “This is Bolt, he was just about to tell us.”
Bolt gestured them into the room, allowing Fives to move past him to stand next to his twin. Echo was still unconscious, although Fives didn’t know if that was because of the extent of his injuries or because of something the medics had done. A blanket was drawn up to his chest, his arms laid out at his sides. His right arm was swathed in bandages almost to the shoulder joint, and Fives could see by the outline of his right leg that it was wrapped up similarly. He reached over to put a hand on his brother’s head, feeling some of the tension he’d still been carrying fade as he ran gentle fingers through his brother’s hair.
“So, how is he?” Rex asked.
“Why is he still unconscious?” Fives added.
Bolt folded his arms, tucking his datapad under one arm. “He’s medically sedated. The burns on his leg are extensive and severe, and it’s better for him to be unconscious for the pain. Most of the time we spent today was getting his leg out of his boots and blacks. They’d melted on in some places. There are some third-degree burns around his knees and ankles where his armor didn’t protect him, but for the most part, they’re all second- and first-degree.”
“But his--it’ll all heal, right?” Fives wanted to know. Batchmate aside, Echo was his partner on the field. He needed to know Echo could still be that, or else Jesse might be getting a bit of informal ARC training to make up for it.
The medic nodded. “It should heal. There might be some nerve damage that will take longer than the rest, but it should be a functional result. Whatever surgeries or grafts will be minor, which is good. As soon as we come out of hyperspace, I will contact your medics, Captain, and let them know to have a bacta tank ready for him when you arrive.”
Rex nodded back, and Fives could see a similar shedding of worries from his shoulders. “Thank you.”
“It’ll still be a couple months until he’s ready for action, but he should be able to return to full duties eventually.” He unfolded his arms and moved towards the door. “You can stay as long as you want.”
Fives nodded, his focus back on Echo now the medic was done. He didn’t notice the captain moving until Rex’s hand landed on his shoulder, and he looked over. “Have a seat. I know you’re gonna be here a while.”
An empty supply crate had appeared behind him. He sat, his hand moving to grasp his brother’s. “I thought I was gonna be the one getting hurt doing something stupid like that.”
Rex breathed a short laugh. “Yeah. Well. Good on you for pulling him out like that. Ascension cable--don’t think I would have thought of that one.”
A tiny smile appeared on Fives’ face. “Guess the ARC training was good for something.”
“Mm… I think that was more Domino training than ARC training.” Rex ruffled Fives’ curls. “Maybe get some sleep while you’re keeping him company, okay?”
He didn’t have any arguments for that. Once Rex was gone, however, he stood up so he could lean over Echo to put their foreheads together, resting his left hand on the side of his brother’s face. He remained like that for a short moment, where he could feel his brother’s slow, even breaths across his face, and to finally let it sink in that Echo was okay. That explosion had been terrifying to watch, and the sight of Echo’s body landing limply on the ground on the end of the cable would have debilitated Fives before ARC training. Then again, they wouldn’t be ARCs if they didn’t have the potential to be better than themselves.
Echo was okay. That was the important thing.
“You’re gonna be right as rain in a few,” he murmured before moving to kiss the spot where their heads had touched. “And I’ll be there the whole time, okay?”
He pulled the crate a bit closer to the bed before he sat back down so he could lay his arms down and rest his head on top of them. He took Echo’s hand in his own, tucked their clasped hands against his cheek, and closed his eyes. Sleep wasn’t far behind.

Cody + 16??
Tumblr media
Snippets of Time
Characters: Cody x Reader
Note: Thankyou nonny for this request, I was having a little bit of trouble of how to encapsulate the kinda vibe i wanted to go for, not sure if it landed. But i decided to do a few snippets of a little friendship with our lovely commander and a reader throughout the Clone Wars. Let me know what you think! I love when people do that! Also, fair warning, kinda gets a bit sad, but thats chill.
Prompt 16: “That you will be by my side to see me through” ~ You and I, Jacob Collier
A little bit about this song: This is some classic Jacob Collier arranging, very spooky, also uplifting and got them good jazz chords. Listen to it here

Introductions
Cody had met Obi-wan proceeding the battle of Geonosis, easily getting along, Obi-wan’s cool quick wit complimenting Cody’s serious but loyal nature. Obi-wan and Cody got along well, but the Marshall Commander had a softer spot for his own Jedi Commander.
He remembered the time that Obi-wan had brought you with him for the first time, a strong senior Padawan, who had already lost one master, but still seemed jovial and effervescent. He watched with skepticism as you gazed at the vastness of the the hangar bay of the Negotiator, looking around as if you had never been outside the temple. Obi-wan was quick and cool, but you seemed different, somewhat of a mystery to the Clone.
In the beginning, Cody stayed out of your way. After all what would a Jedi want with the likes of him. Plus he had a quarter of an army to run, but your paths crossed every now and then, each time more of the mystery of your character unfogging.
The light of the holo-table cast a blue hue over your stern features. Cody could see the stern lines deepen as the council outlined the battle strategy. Cody did not much like it, the plan was too risky, but he let it go. This was not his time to speak. Master Mundi finished speaking, opening the up the floor for questions. There was a slight pause as the heads, both real and holographic panned around the room. You took the slightest step forward.
“This plan, while it would achieve our goal is irresponsible” You voice was matter-of-fact, leaving no room for doubt.
“Is that so?” Master Windu turned to you, dissatisfaction clear. “And why would that be?”
“Too many lives lost, lives we have a duty to protect.” You put it simply
“But the civilians would be saf—“
“Clone lives” you clarified.
The silence spreading throughout the briefing room was deafening. Obi-Wan took a deep breath and pinched his nose, the council members looked at each other in irritation, their nonchalance being called out. Cody smiled inwardly. A Jedi commander who would go to bat for his boys. Maybe you were something he could get behind.
Medical Mischief
He was beaten, he was bruised. Yet he limped with resolve to the one place he could hurt in comfort: His quarters. One foot in front of the other, the commander’s attempt to look uninjured was laughable. He heard giggling from behind him and the Marshall Commander turned back to see you, hand over mouth, trying to cover you snickering. Cody groaned.
“What’re you laughing at?”
You tried to regain your composure. “You.”
“No shit.” Cody was not impressed, bothered at the interuption to his escape plans.
“You see the boys had mentioned something,” You began to stroll over casually, mischief in your eye. “You know, I didn’t believe them when they told me, I always thought you were such a good example for your men.” You had Cody’s undivided attention now, “They said you hated the medbay, never go when you’re supposed to. And I thought to myself, ‘Hmmm not on my watch.’”
Cody hadn’t noticed that you had slipped an arm around his and had began to shepherd him in the direction of his favourite place on the ship.
“Hey, stop! Let go!” He tried to wriggle out of your grip, but you ploughed on, resolute in your gait, easily overcoming the poor limping man.
“No can do Commander, you have an image to uphold.”
Interlude
Time went on, the war continued to wage in the furthest corners of the galaxy and you and Cody found your rhythm. You became an inseparable team on and off the battlefield. Both leading from the front, you managed to get the 501st through some of the most risky of assaults.
You balanced each other out.
You learnt a lot from Cody over the years. How to punch a droid sucessfully, how to patch up a bruise after you had punched a droid. He showed you how to be a good leader and helped you grow in your confidence as a Commander. But you, in turn, showed him things.
He always made sure that you were okay after a campaign, and so you developed a little ritual. You taught Cody how to meditate. You would bring him into your quarters and practice your deep breathing together, centring yourself in the moment. It became a staple in both of your routines and it was the way you both aired out your grievances and let them go to the universe.
You grew close, everyone could see it.
You were like family to Cody, and maker help the galaxy if anything ever happened to you.
Knighting
He wasn’t allowed to go to the ceremony. It was for Jedi only. You had been so nervous leading up to your trials. He knew you could do it, and he was not surprised in the slightest when you came bounding into his quarters, barreling him over in a bear hug, screaming that you’d passed.
But he couldn’t go to the ceremony.
He sat staring at his boring grey walls, wondering what was going on. Was Obi-Wan there? What were you thinking about right now? What things happened in a Jedi Knighting ceremony? His contemplation on these questions was half-baked at best, his mind wandering to the future.
The war was at a critical point, the senate’s order for new clones was ready, Cody knew they needed more Jedi Generals, and none came with better credentials than you. You would be a credit to any battalion, they would be lucky troopers. But they were not Cody’s troopers.
He didn’t hear his door open.
“Cody?” Your face cast in shadow as you were outlined by the glow of the ship light. You voiced pulled Cody from his questionings.
“Hmm?” He looked up. “Ah, how did it go?”
“Good,” You walked into his room and sat down next to him on his bed. “I have something to say to you.”
“I know.”
“I’m gonna miss you.” The emotion cracking the edges of your voice. Cody  wrapped an arm around you. “You’ll never be too far away.” Cody managed to give you a bit of a half-smile. You sat there together taking in each other’s presence for what you knew would be for the last time for a long time.
“I have something for you.” You broke the silence by reaching back around to grab at something. It was a small wooden box. You shoved it at the Marshall Commander and he opened it.
“Your padawan braid?” Cody looked at you, a mixture of confusion and awe.
“Something to remember me by, you’ll always have a little piece of me with you no matter how many light years apart we are.”
Cody smiled, and pulled you into a hug.
Aftermath.
You couldn’t remember the name of the planet you were on when you felt it. It was like all the energy in your body being forcibly pushed out of you. Your ears rang with the screams and it was almost as if the ground began to lilt under you feet.
Something was wrong, but you didn’t know what.
You hadn’t clued to the first signs, comms going unanswered, whispers around the native colonies. It was when you saw the Holonet report of the Jedi betraying the Republic when you knew you were in trouble.
At first it wasn’t so bad, you kept a low profile and no one really bothered you, you looked like any other traveller passing through. But then the troopers started to show up, but not in the armour you were used to. Similar enough to go unnoticed by most people, but strange enough to send your survival instincts into overdrive.
But it wasn’t safe.
Especially on the day you saw your picture, a smiling Jedi Knight, plastered on the wall of an unassuming business, labelling you as a traitor and offering a reward.
That’s when you began your new life, with a new appearance, a new name, never staying in one place for more than a few weeks. It was tiring, but it was what needed to be done.
….
You had been watching the holo waves weeks now. Imperial propaganda rife. Disgust had made its home in the back of your throat as you looked upon the force fed narratives on the web. But everyday you checked it religiously, looking for information about what happened at the end of the clone wars, why you were being hunted down.
Talk of a legendary clone wars commander coming to your planet to recruit piqued you interest.
It was dangerous, if it was the man you thought it would be, if the empire found out you were there. But you had to go.
You kept your distance from him. But you knew, without a doubt it was him, his scar, his gait. But the warmth was gone from his eyes. You tailed him, following him away from the carnival and back to his room before you confronted him.
“Cody.”
His shoulders stiffened. He slowly turned around to see who was in the door.
“CC-2224 now” His voice was proper, like when he gave an order. You brow furrowed in confusion, you didn’t quite know what has happening.
“Cody, what’s happening?” You were desperate and confused, in front of the one person who could help you make send of the mess. You moved to hug him around the middle as you dissolved into tears.
You didn’t register it in time.
The hard barrel of Cody’s pistol pressing into you side. You felt the heat of the blaster bolt and looked up at your Best friend, your brother, with pathetically wide eyes.
“I’m sorry Y/N, but good soldiers follow orders.” There was no remorse in his voice, almost the slightest hint of pleasure.
It was the last thing you heard, before your vision frayed, the pounding in your ears became too much and your world faded to black.

EBMK - Chapter 2: Each other’s backs
Author’s Notes | It took me some time this time because I was suffering a small block after so many works for Ivar in a row, but here it is! Second chapter coming along with the hurricane… Words | 3456 ⁑ Warnings: Lots of cursing, mentions to violence, blood, alcohol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was supposed to be a normal day - despite the fact that Mads was spending almost no time with Adrian since his buddy came back from prison. The guy was working the shit out of himself to sustain that chick Mads was already getting sick of seeing mistreating his pal. And he was sure he saw the chick rolling strands of her hair while talking with some other dude in her college. Mads swore an oath he would find a way to fuck that girl's life if he ever knew she was cheating on Adrian again.
"Welcome, Frederik. It's straight down to the right. Next..."
There he was, working the hell out. Adrian had sunk dark circles around his eyes and Mads knew it was from sleeping too few and sometimes out of his bed because of the girl's belly. Adrian told him sometimes the baby was too agitated and then Victoria would send him to the couch so she could roll alone with her whole bed to herself. Shit of a woman... Joy never did it to him...
But he couldn't say his life was any better than his friend's. Adrian was walking around like a zombie, but he wasn't that different, working like hell to cover the idiot that quit and CC's place, now that his "brother" was wearing the club colors he wanted so hard - before him.
Fucking shit of a life Mads was intending to forget getting some fight around or using his free time to get a beer with Adrian after his turn was over. He had chosen the second option, but it seems the fight would come anyway...
Mads had to hold back his fists when that drunken bastard crossed the line, breaking the queue and passing forward, but since the guys in front of him were laughing and it was Adrian's turn as the door security, Mads decided not to cause any troubles - he didn't want to make his friend's turn any more shitty than that guy was already doing by stumbling over him...
"Wild night, huh? You won't get in acting like that," Adrian warned, helping the man to find his balance with a slight push.
"I tripped, dude. Chill," the guy tried, and Mads sighed.
He wouldn't be ok for that job. For sure that man would be already with some teeth missing speaking to him like he was doing to Adrian.
"Show me some ID," Adrian insisted.
"Yeah, Sure." the guy answered and Mads sighed again, annoyed this time, sure he would have kicked that guy's face for trying to go in that way.
What the fuck! If there is a damn security guard, just show your fucking ID and shut up...
"Hey, HEY! What did I just say? ID, please," Adrian pulled the guy back, trying to deal with the situation and Mads observed, already feeling his fists clenching inside his pockets.
He was crazy to hit someone and that guy's mouth was begging for some punches...
"Yo, chill. I'm on my way."
Just one more "chill" and Mads would lose control...
"Don't touch me. I think you need to find a bed for this guy," Adrian said, pushing the drunken towards his laughing friends, worried about keeping them out of the club.
Too worried to notice the drunk guy preparing a punch that hit his face right on the corner of his mouth.
That was enough for Mads' wildness and he just pushed the guy's friends away, pulling the asshole from the club's door by his collar, preventing him to come in and starting to hit the guy before he could say anything.
"You like to fucking punch people? What does it feel like, uh, asshole?" he cursed, hitting the guy as many times as he could before his friends could come against him.
"There are punches for everyone," Mads thought, hitting whoever he could, trying to keep himself standing - which he couldn't do for too long.
Adrian called for backup as soon as he recovered from the punch's dizziness, kicking the face of the man that mounted over Mads and trying to keep them back with some punches before the other security guards came to shove them all away and close the club's door for the night.
The day was dawning and Adrian was still sitting near the lake with Mads by his side. Both of them holding beers and spitting blood sometimes from their injured mouths. Mads was bleeding more: his eyebrow was cut such as his lips. Adrian only had the big punch he got in his mouth that cost him a tooth Mads helped him to get rid of.
"You should take a look at this," Adrian said about Mads' eyebrow but he just giggled.
"It's fine, nothing I'm not used to. We have this fight nights at the club... Joy's kinda used to give me some stitches from time to time," Mads answered, taking some water from the lake to wash his face. "You will have to see a dentist, bro."
"Why?" Adrian asked, before spitting blood one more time. "That asshole already made me a huge favor: I won't have to pay for a canal in a while..." he tried to joke. "I was expecting this shit to stop bleeding, but I have to go..."
"The butchery job is still on?" Mads asked, curious.
"Yeah," Adrian answered, taking one more sip of his beer, noticing Mads' face frowned and he dropped the beer can. "What?"
"You're fucking late, man! Get up! I'll take you home so you can change, go, go!"
"Shit!" Adrian cursed, getting rid of the can and getting up to follow Mads.
Even with his friend riding like crazy through the streets of Copenhagen, with his fight with Victoria during the time he was exchanging clothes and trying to stop the bleeding in his mouth, Adrian ended up arriving too late for his work.
And the boss kicked him out.
"Fucking great!" he came out where Mads was still stopped with his bike, lighting a cigarette he intended to smoke before going home.
"What? Dude, what happened?" he asked, and Adrian came closer to him, angry.
"I'm out. He fucking kicked my ass out! Fuck!"
Mads sighed.
His friend's life was really going wrong.
"Look, go back home and..." Mads tried.
"Victoria will fuck up my mind if I go back now. I'll go to the club. The Monk must have something I can do to keep up the money income..."
Adrian was nervous, not thinking straight. And Mads knew that name very well - The Monk was one of the guys the Wolves were trying to swallow around. He wouldn't want his pal working full time for that guy. But he could understand his friend's needs.
"I have a chance to get more time on the club or some driver shit. Anything."
Mads gave his cigarette for Adrian to smoke and patted his shoulder.
"Dude, look... Take a breath, ok? Go talk to your guy and I'll talk to my troupe. With some luck, we'll get a full job for you with my guys and then you won't have to be worried. I talked to Tom about you, he got interested. Now that CC isn't working at the warehouse anymore and I'm alone, maybe he'll get you. I'll remember him today, ok? Chill, brother. You're not alone," Mads insisted and Adrian took a deep breath of his cigarette, sighing the smoke out.
"Fine. Fine... I have to go."
"I drop you at the club, come."
Mads took a longer route to give his friend some time to chill and Adrian noticed this when the bike started riding closer to the sea - Mads was kinda taking a whole round around the city fringe and at some point, Adrian just took off his helmet, feeling the sea breeze touching his face. Mads smiled losing one more entry to the city. Some more meters on the seafront and Adrian lifted his voice, yelling, causing Mads to laugh when his friend lifted both of his hands, smiling at him, enjoying the trip.
The two friends rode as if they had nothing to lose for a while, but they knew things should be done and Mads took the way into the town to drop Adrian near the club as they combined. Another friend of his was near the door and came to compliment when Adrian was giving the helmet back to Mads.
"Hey, Danny... What's up?" Adrian asked before shaking the boy's hand.  "This is Mads," Adrian smiled. "My brother."
"I didn't know you had a brother," Danny said, smiling when shaking Mads' hand.
"Well, now he has," Mads smiled back at Adrian, "I have to go. Stay up with your phone, bro. I'll take a look at Joy and go to the warehouse. I can call you at any moment, ok?"
"Great, bro," Adrian answered.
They hit their hands and Mads took his way, leaving Adrian with a curious Danny.
"I think I know your brother, dude," Danny said. "I don't know... I think I already saw him somewhere."
"Maybe you did... Maybe not. Let's go. I have to speak to The Monk."
Danny still looked back at the street after Adrian came into the club, but Mads' bike was already gone down the road, so, he just followed his friend inside.
Tumblr media
Adrian knew Danny was pissed off. He knew he stabbed his friend's back by telling The Monk Danny's license was taken. But he needed that job. He needed that money! Even with Mads' promise of getting him a full job with the Wolves, he knew his friend couldn't force his way in and also, Mads was promising this in a while and he couldn't wait for him to get it: Victoria's baby would come in some few months and he had to buy the stuff for the baby's room and prepare everything. Mads was a nice guy, but Adrian knew he couldn't simply rest on his brother's back. So, he did what was necessary and now Danny was frowning at him inside that car - The Monk got him an "office boy" position that was paying way less than he was used to earning as a driver, but was keeping the boy on the track to teach Adrian about the usual destinations and routes he had to learn for the job and Danny was already used to taking.
That day wouldn't be too harsh: carrying some stuff from here to there in some destinations and things would be ok. At least it was what Adrian thought until Danny jumped into the car.
"Now we're going to see Cuz," he said as if it was nothing.
As if Adrian didn't know who Cuz was... The boy felt his blood cold into his veins on spot.
He could get arrested again just for walking beside the house of that old jerk!
"Cuz Cuz?" Adrian asked, confirming his suspicions when Danny nodded effusively.
"Yeah, Cuz, Adrian. We're bringing him the folder."
"What's in it?" Adrian asked, feeling his hands starting to sweat on the wheel.
"Fresh meat," Danny answered, giggling at the obvious dry gulp his friend just got down through his throat. "Come on!"
Adrian turned the car on, but his phone started ringing and he turned it off again to answer.
"C'mon, Adrian! We'll be late, man," Danny complained and Adrian looked at him.
"You don't speak and drive, Danny. That's why I have a license and you don't, man. Now shut."
Danny grunted, annoyed, as Adrian answered to the call, hearing Mads' voice on the other side of the line.
"Adrian?"
"Hey bro, speak..."
Mads didn't even wait for his salutation.
"Drop whatever you're doing now and come to the warehouse, bro! I got you a chance, but you have to come right now! Full-time job, days on the fabric, nights at the warehouse, double what you're earning. Drop this shit and tell me where I pick you up, bro!" he said, fully happy.
Adrian's eyes became larger and he got silent for a second. A full-time job paying twice what he was earning? Man! "Mads just saved my life!"
"Bro? Did you hear me?" Mads called him back to reality and Adrian giggled out of nervousness.
"Mads... Dude, are you serious?"
"I wouldn't fucking play with something like this, bro! Come on! Where are you?" Mads asked and Adrian got out of the car, for Danny's annoyance that followed his friend out of the red van.
"You gonna get us in trouble, Adrian, turn off this fucking phone, habibi! You can talk to your little girlfriend another time," Danny tried.
But Adrian just waved his hand for Danny to shut up and kept talking to Mads, still impressed his life was really taking a turn, finally.
"I'm near the docks, ahn..." Adrian looked around, spotting the bakery from where Danny just had brought their lunch. "Near the bakery, the..."
"The one with those cookies you like? Gotcha! I pick you up in five minutes, bro!" Mads answered and Adrian could hear the sound of his motorcycle turning on before he dropped the call.
"What the fuck, Adrian!?" Danny came closer, fully pissed off. "The Monk will fuck our ass if we get late, man!"
"You go," Adrian said, giving the keys to a shocked Danny.
"What? Adrian, I can't drive, habibi. Did you forget you fucking opened your big mouth about my license? Did I buy you the alcoholic cookies?" Danny said, checking on the note from the bakery to ensure Adrian wasn't drunk.
"I'm not high, dude. Mads will pick me up, I... I have some stuff to solve."
Adrian's eyes were already on the corner of the road, spotting Mads' bike turning into the street.
"Are you fucking crazy, Adrian? You drop this way and The Monk will never get you back, dude! You gonna get yourself fucked!"
"That's fine... Then you can have your job back, right?" Adrian smiled when Mads stopped right beside him, giving him a helmet and not even taking his own off. "Tell The Monk I can't drive for him... Tell him... I... I quit!" he said, putting the helmet on and getting on the bike right before Mads could start driving towards the Wolves' warehouse, living Danny behind with a full shocked face.
"Fuck, bro! Twice what I was earning? That's fucking amazing, dude!" Adrian celebrated, punching Mads' ribs in a playful way, hearing his friend laughing into his own helmet through the interphone.
"Yeah... Tom just wants to know you," Mads said. "But the job is already yours. Now... Do you have guts, Adrian? I mean... Tom may ask you for some extra jobs if you're up to use your skills as a butcher. Ya know what I'm talking about, right?"
Adrian knew it could be a situation. The Monk had used his skills once and he knew he could get really fucked for doing those shit, but what choice did he have? And also, The Monk used his skills only once... Maybe Tom wouldn't want him to do that disgusting thing more than once or twice.
People weren't killing people all the time to need a butcher so many times like this...
"Yeah. I did it once... I think I can do it again if he needs," Adrian answered.
"Yeah. That's good, bro. That's good."
None of them was comfortable with that little detail about Adrian's new job, but well, both knew some sacrifices were necessary.
It was for his son. For his little Patrick, as Adrian told Mads he would call the boy Victoria was waiting for. Mads could understand. He would also do anything for his little Kyle. Joy and he had just decided the name and he was so happy things were adjusting well, finally.
They stopped by the club and the two of them were brought to Tom's office. Adrian had to say his balls just kinda found a way to shrink around themselves when that man looked him in the eyes.
"You're too skinny for a butcher," Tom said, coming closer, sticking Adrian's chest with the back of his pen. "Can you ride a bike, butcher boy?"
"Yeah," Adrian answered.
"So, I suggest you get one soon. Mads will teach you the job, now get the fuck outta my face. The warehouse won't watch itself, go," Tom said, waving his hand for them to leave.
Adrian went out confused as Mads was silly smiling by his side.
"What was that?"
"I told ya he just wanted to know you. The job is yours already, bro. Now come! Let's take a beer on the bar before we go," Mads answered, bringing Adrian with him to the bar, ignoring the surprise that was making his friend dizzy.
Adrian's eyes were looking all over the enormous place where Mads seemed to know so well how to walk. For a moment, he thought he could easily get lost into that place and never find a way out.
Some people passed around, some looking at Adrian, some just passing and ignoring the two of them. Adrian could understand why Tom thought he was skinny: half of the men inside that club would easily weight more than him and mads together! However, a man in specific caught Adrian's eyes and he frowned at the sight of that man walking around, drinking with some other Wolves. A bald bearded man, with lightly darkened skin... He could bet he saw that man before... Where?
"Here!" Mads pushed him the beer cutting his line of thought for a moment. "Cheers, brother!"
He was so happy! Finally, Adrian would be closer, they could share the nights in the warehouse - which would make his work utterly easier - and his friend wouldn't be so fucked as he was since he came back from prison.
However, Adrian's face wasn't this happy. In fact, he was surprised and kinda shocked. That bald man started walking towards them and with the proximity, Adrian was able to recognize him, causing the blood to run cold inside his veins once again: he could remember where he saw that guy now...
At the police station, inside one of the offices, speaking freely with one of the officers. He could remember her talking to him, giving stuff to him and taking his cellphone to read something on it... He remembers they sat him on a chair beside them and he could hear something about she wanting that man to avoid going too deep in his infiltration or she wouldn't be able to keep him safe when everything was blown up.
Adrian's head started making some bad math as that man came closer, but everything exploded into his head when Mads smiled towards that man.
"Hey, CC! Come here, man! Come meet my bro!"
Fuck.
Tumblr media
Now everything was making sense! If that one was CC, then he was infiltrated there! At the club! At the Wolves!
And he used Mads to get into the gang...
"This is CC, Adrian. And this is Adrian, the guy I told you, CC. He'll be a father soon as well... Patrick, isn't it right?"
Mads was such a nice guy... Such an innocent guy. He had no idea of what that man smiling beside him was doing... He would get so fucked if everything ended up blowing up the way they were planning! By Adrian's knowledge of that world, he had just stepped into a time bomb and Mads would end up blown if he couldn't do anything.
However, he had just stepped into that place. It wasn't as if someone would believe the word of a total newbie against a man who won his colors in a pair of weeks, as Mads had told him.
"Hey... Earth to Adrian... Are you high, bro?" Mads clicked his fingers in front of Adrian's eyes, calling him back from his thoughts and Adrian giggled, shaking his head.
It wasn't the right time to burst the whole thing.
"Sorry... This place is so big, I'm... I'm impressed," he tried to disguise his affliction, smiling and shaking CC's hand. "Sorry, man. Nice jacket, by the way. You guys have a beautiful symbol."
"One day I'll dress it as well. It's closer than never!" Mads said and CC smiled at him, patting his back, causing Adrian to cringe inside seeing that snake so close to someone so dear for him.
"Yeah. Soon, brother. Soon."
"He's not your brother," Adrian wanted to say.
But he swallowed down the words and smiled.
At the right time, he would tell Mads everything and maybe save his brother's skin from the catastrophe that was about to come...

It Had To Be You
[Story Masterlist]
Pairings: Barry Allen x Original Female Character
Author’s Note: Hello and welcome to my first OC/Flash story! This story will cover the entire first season of the Flash, choosing scenes I deem important in order to tell the story. A note: for this story, I am choosing to omit the WestAllen storyline simply because I prefer not to make a jealous Iris and problematic relationship with the OC. So, in this story Barry just never had a crush on Iris - they are family.
Summary: Her focus has always been to graduate and stabilize her job - no where in there did that include becoming a metahuman. Left with a side Belén fears, she tries to make a life with Star Labs and Barry Allen. Despite the darkness, the secrets and the fear driving she and Barry apart, it never lasts...because in the end: "There can never be another. It had to be you," they say to each other.
Pronunciation of OC: Bell-en. The last syllable has an emphasis so it’s not pronounced like ‘Helen’ would be.
No real warnings for now!
Disclaimer: I only own my OCs Belén Palayta and Nina Clarke.
Belén‘s face claim: Lauren Conrad.

Ch. 1: Ready Or Not
2 Months after the Particle Accelerator.
A young man stood in the middle of an abandoned warehouse with hands extended on either side of him. He didn't seem very bothered by the seven people standing across him with guns aimed in his direction.
"You need to give it up," one of the men across moved forwards, intending on being threatening but his hand holding his gun shook.
The young man just smiled. "I'm done being used by you and your group, Harold." He flung a hand to the side and as he did the other man, Harold, was thrown to the side. Harold's body hit a metal machine and was effectively knocked out cold.
"Start shooting!" someone else in the group ordered.
The young man smirked and started flinging his hands to the sides repeatedly, deflecting the incoming bullets. He then started pushing the nearby tables against the group along with chairs and other movable pieces of furniture. In no time he had brought down the group of criminals without so much a sweat.
"Finally," he breathed in knowing this was the beginning of his freedom again. He turned calmly away and started for the office near the entrance of the warehouse. There he sat down at the desk and opened up a laptop. He started searching through the internet to see what he could find on a specific metahuman he had heard the band of criminals repeatedly talk about. He hadn't been allowed near any electronic devices unsupervised so he wasn't too sure about his suspicions.
"There you are," he stopped at a picture of a woman dressed in purple leather. Half of her face was covered in a purple mask but the young man recognized the woman nonetheless. "Sister," he smiled widely. "I'm coming for you."
2 Months Earlier: The Day of the Particle Accelerator.
In Central City Picture News, a young woman anxiously stood in front of a printer that was spewing out papers belonging to her mentor. Her long, caramel-colored hair with ombre-blonde tips bounced as she impatiently waited for the printer to be done.
"Are my papers done?" shouted Linda Park from her desk, tapping her fingers along her desk as she pretended to be heavily annoyed. She was actually very amused as she watched her favorite intern try to collect the papers - she always made the funniest faces!
The young woman whirled around to face Linda, looking frantic. "Just one more second, promise!"
Linda mumbled something under her breath then returned to her work on the computer. Though her eyes did flicker every now and then at the ombre-blonde intern just to see how things were going.
"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, already," the ombre-blonde chewed on her nail until the printer finished up. She cheered and gathered up the papers then ran for Linda's desk. "Done, ha!" she slammed the papers on the desk.
Linda looked up seeming unimpressed with the woman's blunt slam. "You are so lucky it's me and not Larkin or you'd be fired."
The woman widely smiled at the comment and twirled her fingers around her blonde tips, "Which is why I love you the most. You're cool, Linda."
Linda remained blank for a minute or two before she gave an unprofessional snort and laughed, "You are such a kiss ass, Belén."
The woman, Belén, blushed as she laughed too, "I'm an intern, it's kinda what we do."
"The new ones," Linda corrected her then turned her chair for her computer, "One more year and you'll be a reporter. But look, I've got an assignment for you right now that could win you some points."
Belén tilted her head to the side and squinted her eyes in thought, "Would this assignment by any chance happen to be another paper that you didn't want to write so now you are going to tell me to do it instead? Because of it is, I'd rather go have another battle with the printer."
"Just do me this one okay? It's some paper that's not on sports and I frankly have a date I don't want to cancel on. Here, take a look," Linda motioned for Belén to look at her computer screen where she had a Star Labs page opened up, "We need a paper on the accelerator going off in some hours. There's some grand show tonight and we need something written," she turned her chair to Belén, "Preferably something fantastic if you could."
Belén blinked and quickly looked at Linda, "C'mon, Linda, I don't understand anything about that thing. I want to help but I don't know how."
"Ask your dad," Linda seemed not to care by the blank face she wore, "Or your brother. They're both freaky geniuses. Just do it. I'm letting you do this so that you can prove you have what it takes to become a real journalist. This is your chance, Belén Palayta. Will you take it?"
Belén's eyes flickered to the computer screen then to Linda, clearly indecisive. But in the end, as Linda suspected, Belén ended up nodding in agreement, "Okay, I'll do it."
Linda clapped and stood up from her chair to go retrieve necessary papers for Belén, "It'll be alright, you'll see."
Belén took a deep sigh as she sat down on Linda's chair, getting a closer look at the news on the screen. She knew very well what Star Labs was intending on doing and while she didn't understand a great deal of the purpose, she was curious to see it unfold.

Belén pulled the glass door of CC Jitters and stepped inside with an air of nervousness that was etched onto her face so clearly her friend, a barista, noticed with just one look. Iris West finished handing a customer a mug of coffee just as Belén reached the register.
"Alright," the young barista hurried behind the register, "What's the problem, Belén?" it wasn't often her friend had problems and when they did they were truly troubling ones. She'd learned that only a month after meeting Belén in college.
Belén released a sigh of distress as her eyes scanned the menu above them, "I got an important article to do for tonight."
Hearing that news, Iris smiled, "Congratulations," she knew Belén was closer to acquiring a full paying job and if she was being handed important articles it only meant she was one step closer.
"It's on Star Labs' Particle accelerator," Belén finally met Iris' eyes.
"Oh…" Iris' smile faded as she now understood the dilemma Belén was in, "...and your dad…?"
"Doesn't want me to do it," Belén confirmed her suspicions.
"And are you going to listen?"
"Hell no."
Iris nodded with understanding, "So there's more problems?"
"Oh yes," Belén sighed once more, letting her gaze temporarily fall to the counter, "He knows it's my job. I can't listen to him this time."
Iris reached to touch Belén's arm, having that warm, comforting smile on her face, "Hey, you do what you need to do. Besides, maybe if you come by tonight's show we can meet up."
Belén seemed to take that with a good mood, "Really? You're coming too?"
"Mhm, it's an assignment for class. I'm dragging my best friend to help me understand what the hell they're going to say."
Belén chuckled, "I wish I could do the same with Rayan. I don't understand anything of that science stuff."
"Ah, but you're his twin, make him," Iris pointed at her.
"Yeah, I sort of figured out I couldn't make him do everything I wanted," Belén dramatically sighed. "Besides," she got serious again, "even if I asked him, I know he couldn't come. He has some engineering event tonight at his college. He'll be out late."
"Well," Iris considered for a moment, "If worst comes to worst, you can always borrow Barry. He's such a pushover you can definitely get explanations from him."
Belén smiled and rolled her eyes, "That's abuse and I don't think I want to do that to a guy I've never even met. It's a bit rude don't you think?"
Iris feigned a thinking face for a minute or so before shaking her head. "No, not really."
Belén put on on a scolding look on her friend, "You're evil," she pointed, "And I want no part in it."
Iris rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Whatever you say, Belén. But the offer stands. We'll be there at Star Labs tonight as well if you want to meet up."
"See? Now that I can do," Belén nodded happily, something that made Iris laugh. "Now give me an espresso and I can be on my way."
"Sure thing," Iris nodded back and went to prepare her drink. Belén sighed her worried sigh while Iris left. She was still pretty worried over what her father would say when he learned that in order to do the paper she would have to visit Star Labs on the day the Particle Accelerator would go off.
That...would not be an easy discussion.

After her shift ended, Iris headed on over to the Central City Police Department, CCPD, to retrieve her best friend, almost brother really, Barry Allen. As she assumed before walking in, he was busy in his forensics work.
"Hey! I am ready to see this atom smasher smashing," she strode into the lab and stopped beside Barry's table, shooting him one of those nice smiles that really just said to hurry the hell up.
Feeling like he was going to get scolded anyways, Barry came out with the blatant truth, "There was a shooting today. Your dad needs me to process some evidence. Which means I don't know if we're gonna be able to make it to Star Labs."
"Seeing this thing turn on is like your dream," Iris tilted her head, mocking him, "Your sad little nerdy dream. Plus, I canceled a date for this," she made an 'o' when she saw Barry's fries sitting at the edge of the table, "Also-" she quickly grabbed some and started chewing on them, "-I may or may not have told a friend you'd help her with her article on that machine thing."
"First of all, hands off my fries," Barry tried taking back his lunch but Iris smirked and snatched the entire box before backtracking away. Seeing there was no winning with the woman, Barry huffed and plopped back on his stool.
"Was there a second of all somewhere in there?" Iris asked after swallowing down.
"You know I'm okay with helping people but I would prefer if you didn't promise me off to someone without telling me first."
Iris cheekily smiled and returned with only half of his fries, "But that's what you're all about, isn't it? Helping people? She needed help - I found a solution. She's like me, normal, and she doesn't quite understand what's so important about this particle accelerator nor the people who run it."
Barry looked almost offended by that last statement, "People who run it? Harrison Wells' work in quantum theory is light-years ahead of anything they're doing at CERN."
Iris gave him a pointed look, "You're doing that thing where you're not speaking English."
"Okay," Barry got up from his stool again and walked over to a white board. He picked up a marker and drew a dot on it, "Just imagine that that dot is everything the human race has ever learned until this moment."
"Does that include twerking?"
Barry then made a motion to the rest of the space on the board, "That is everything we could learn from the particle accelerator. It's a whole new way of looking at physics. It will literally change the way that we think about everything."
Iris stared long and hard at the board but in the end she made a face and stated, "You gotta get yourself a girlfriend."
Behind them came in Iris' father, Joe West, who promptly warned his daughter, "Hey, leave him alone, he's working."
Iris mocked a sigh and turned to Joe, wearing a smile on her face, "Hi, Dad. Your testing is done," she gestured to the tubes Barry had been working on when she came in.
Barry nodded in agreement, "I think the Mardon brothers are hiding on a farm. The fecal matter I found on the street, it was cow manure, which contains traces of oxytetracycline. It's an antibiotic. There are only four farms in the area that still use it in their feed. I bet you find a very sweet Shelby parked at one of them."
And while Iris didn't completely understand all that Barry had said she did get the most important thing out of it, "Dad, seeing as how Barry solved your poop problem, how about letting him go to Star Labs tonight?"
Joe made a motion for them to leave, "Fine, go."
"Yes!" Iris cheered and gestured for Barry to get going.
"Thank you, Joe," Barry had barely any time to say before Iris dragged him out of the lab.

In the popular Star Labs everything was bustling with energy and impatience for the great reveal of the Particle Accelerator. Iris and Barry walked in calmly conversing over Barry's abrupt decision to take a trip to the next city over, Starling City, in secrecy and under lies.
"Did you find proof of the impossible in Starling City, or did you just make my dad mad for no reason?" Iris couldn't help chuckle as she thought back to her father and how angry he was after discovering Barry's trip. He shot out all the punishments Barry would get despite Barry not even living with them anymore.
"Quite…" Barry blinked in surprise, not quite over what he had found in the next city over. But of course to his misfortune, he couldn't tell his best friend any of it.
Iris didn't guess anything else was going on in his mind. She only smiled and kept looking forwards, until she found Belén across them. Giddy to see someone who could understand how confusing all the sciency parts were, Iris promptly dragged Barry towards her friend.
Belén seemed to be intently listening to another, slightly older, woman standing in front of her. The woman was talking rather quick much to Belén's dismay but even that didn't make her interrupt.
"Now, do you think you got that for your paper?" the woman asked after she'd finished her long lecture.
Belén gave a nod but after resigning to her lack of knowledge she shook her head, "Nope, sorry, did not get that."
The woman sighed and looked away. "Belén!"
Belén scrunched her nose and made a frantic gesture with her hands. "I'm sorry, Nina! What do you want me to do? I am way out of my element here!"
"No kidding," Nina laughed.
"Where have I heard a conversation like this before?" Iris teasingly asked upon joining the two women. She looked up at Barry with an almost scolding gaze.
"It's not my fault you can't understand such a simple concept," Barry gave a nonchalant shrug, only irritating Iris.
"It's a bit difficult to do so when you're talking at a lightning speed!"
"I do not!"
"You want to bet?"
"Funny, now it feels like a conversation I've had before," Belén spoke up with a rather amused look on her face, "Isn't that right Nina?" she looked to her friend beside her.
"Right," Nina she nodded, smiling in amusement.
Iris shook her head, sharing Belén's same irritation with their friends. She decided to skip disagreements and go to the happy introduction stage instead, "Barry, this is Belén - she's the one that needed more help on her paper."
Embarrassed Iris had actually gone to Barry with the story, Belén blushed and quickly clarified, "Which I already took care of as you can sorta see," she gestured to Nina, "I also have a smarter friend unwilling to help - wait!" she realized how that sounded badder than she thought it would have and quickly tried mending it, "Not that, not that I knew you would be unwilling to help or anything. I just...I just figured you wouldn't wanna help someone you haven't even met properly. I considered it was a hell of a lot of rudeness…"
Nina liked watching Belén ramble on her in her quirky fits but she decided this moment was not a good one and promptly stepped in to save her. With a hand placed over Belén's mouth, Nina smiled at Barry, "She means it's nice to meet you and would have thanked you for your help."
Belén pushed Nina's hand off her and agreed with a nod, "Yes, that's what I wanted to say. Sorry I couldn't say that in a shorter way."
Barry had found himself rather amused by the ombre-haired woman. He knew what it felt like to ramble on and on yet not be able to make a point. He made a motion it was all fine and added, "I'm glad you found someone to help you. Iris always makes a fuss when her assignments are, and I quote," he raised his fingers and made air quotations with them, "Sciency and complicated," while Belén laughed, Iris smacked him on the arm.
"I don't say that!" Iris nearly shouted.
"It's okay, Iris. I hate them too," Belén said before they would start another banter, "I didn't choose this topic though - my mentor Linda assigned me this paper for next week's newspaper. Says it's my big chance and all."
"You work at CC Pictures?" Barry questioned her, curiously.
"Well, it's kinda a job but not really but kind of," Belén shook her head, "Nope, that didn't make sense did it? I'm an intern," she said before more words found their way out of her mouth.
"And she's almost a full paid journalist," Iris remarked afterwards, "Kind of jealous, Belén."
"Well you know, they hire almost every year. I could ask Linda and see if she would be willing to get you a spot."
Iris' mouth fell open at the offer, "Really!? You think you could do that!?"
"Maybe you can start as an intern or something," Belén smiled at her friend's excitement, "And maybe I can even take a crack at it and torture you as an intern...but you know not really. I don't like being mean."
"Nope," agreed Nina, "She just likes to talk a lot."
Belén mocked a glare but said nothing back. There was nothing wrong with talking a lot. She just sometimes had a tendency to say more than what was needed. And sometimes, that caused some problems with people who didn't know that's how she was.
"C'mon, Belén, if you're going to use me you'll need to be finished before ten," Nina warned then elaborated for Iris and Barry, "I have a night shift at the hospital tonight and I cannot be late. Belén has a tendency to forget things so I can be here far longer than I can."
Disappointed, Belén pouted, "Can we not discredit me in front of someone new?" she looked to Barry, "I do not forget everything."
"Ah, it's okay," Iris spoke before he did, "Barry's late for everything."
"I agree with her," Barry pointed to Belén, "Don't discredit me in front of new people."
"It makes you sound like a flake," Belén blurted what she thought had been a silent thought. She gasped and covered her mouth, her eyes half widened in horror, "I am so sorry…"
Barry didn't look so offended as he laughed. Nina decided it was once again time to save her friend, "We'll see you guys later," she linked arms with Belén, "It was nice meeting you, Barry. And good to see you again Iris."
"Nice seeing you too," Iris waved.
"Bye," Belén waved back but added, "And you're not a flake," she told Barry who struggled not to laugh again, "At least...I don't think you are...are you?"
"Belén!" Nina scolded her.
Belén deeply sighed and resigned to her first bad impression, "I'm just going to leave now. Sorry," she gave an honest, apologetic smile as she left with Nina.
Iris chuckled and looked at Barry, "So, what you think of her? Fairly amusing, right? Nina's a bit more serious but she has her fun side too."
Barry wanted to come up with words that didn't insult Belén but he supposed his laugh was insulting enough, "She's...she's something."
"She's definitely fit to be a journalist," Iris continued, "Some of us - not me," she quickly clarified before she was thought rude, "used to call her motor-mouth Belén. Not me though!"
Barry couldn't help the third laugh that escaped his mouth, "Why? She's...okay, she talks a lot, but it's - it's cute."
Iris' eyebrows shot upwards in suspicion, "You think my friend is cute?"
"I said the way she talks is cute," Barry quickly corrected but knowing Iris it wouldn't be easy to convince her otherwise.
"Barry…" Iris broke out one of her teasing smiles, even tilting her head for effect.
"Iris, don't," Barry stepped away in mild annoyance.
"What? I didn't say anything, you did!"
"I complemented!"
"But you said she was cute!"
"The way she talks!"
Iris pursed her lips together, refusing to leave it alone. Barry shook his head knowing things wouldn't be forgotten if he didn't move away.
"Barry, come back!" Iris whined as he started walking away, "I still need your help!" she rushed after him.
~ 0 ~
After Iris caught up and apologized for her teases, she and Barry got together over the refreshments table and gathered up some drinks. They were really just waiting for the head of Star Labs, Dr. Harrison Wells, to commence the event. In the meantime, Barry tried giving tips to Iris on what to write for her assignment.
"This is far too much for my understanding," Iris finally cut him off and drank from her glass, "Why, oh why, did I ever think this was a good idea?"
"I ask myself the same question," Barry remarked back with a clean smirk on his face.
Iris rolled her eyes as she took another sip of her drink. There was no use in arguing over something she completely agreed on. Instead, she focus on the nice event laid out before them. While she didn't understand much of the Accelerator, it apparently was a monumental step towards the future. At least that's what she got from the chattering she could over hear from other guests. However, one particular conversation began to carry over to her ears and immediately she was disgusted.
Not very far from her and Barry, stood Belén and a young man similar in age. He was just a bit taller than her, his shaggy black hair matching his dark eyes that were laid on Belén with such fury it almost scared Iris if she wasn't more angry with him. She hated him, absolutely hated him. Barry, who had been helping himself to another drink, noticed Iris staring with her angry look and wondered who could have earned one of those at an event she didn't know people in. He followed her gaze to Belén and the young man and of course saw what Iris was frowning at - the guy was almost shouting at Belén.
"Who's that?" he asked Iris after a minute of listening on the conversation.
"Eugh," Iris made a face, "Carlton, Belén's boyfriend."
"That's her boyfriend?" Barry almost gaped at the sight. The previously 'motor-mouth Belén' was silently listening to whatever shouts Carlton was giving her with no trace of that infectious smile she had on earlier.
Iris was glad he saw the waste and sighed, "Unfortunately, yes."
"But he's…"
"Rude? Verbally abusive? Controlling?" Iris plastered on a wide, fake smile, "Yeah, he is. Belén's been trying to break up with him for months now but she doesn't know how."
"Maybe she can try 'I'm breaking up with you'? I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that could do it."
"How do you do that when the guy has complete support from the girl's dad because he doesn't really know who his daughter has for a boyfriend? Not to mention he doesn't even let Belén speak much."
Barry didn't like seeing someone take advantage of someone else's kindness and especially when the victim looked like she couldn't even hurt a fly. That's the way Belén looked at the moment. It appeared she was trying to put in a word but every time her mouth opened up Carlton had something else to say and shut her right up.
Iris panicked when Barry took a couple steps towards the pair, "What are you doing!?" she latched her hand onto his arm.
"Iris, that's your friend over there," Barry gestured with his other hand, "You're not gonna let her suffer are you?"
"You think I haven't tried intervening?" Iris raised an eyebrow and let got of his arm, "Of course I have! But Belén says to let her handle it."
"Iris, she's being mauled over there," Barry insisted, "That's not like you."
"Ultimately it's her choice," Iris said as much as it pained her. Of course she wanted to rip Belén away from Carlton but even if she did it wouldn't make much use if Belén would return minutes later.
"Maybe she just needs persuasion," Barry refused to let that happen, "Who better than us, right?"
Iris did like the idea of someone else helping her against Belén's 'boyfriend' and who better than her best friend. They worked well together and she was sure she could make some serious progress on Belén.
"Fine," she huffed in the end but quickly pulled out a warning finger at him, "But if you get hurt I won't be held responsible."
That only made Barry more irritated, "He hits too?"
"Well, no, I just meant if you happen to get punched for being nosy then…"
"Right, I'm nosy," Barry gave her a look that told her to reevaluate her statement. Iris rolled her eyes and went towards Belén instead, prompting him to follow.
Belén was in the middle of inputting a response to something Carlton was saying when he shouted again and shut her right up, "You're an idiot! You really think you could hide it from your own father?"
Belén had flinched under his loud tone and desperately wished she could quiet him down. This was exactly why she hadn't mentioned she was coming to Star Labs to him. She knew when he learned he was coming to his job's rival laboratory he would go ballistic. But unfortunately, he had come out of his own accord to check out the competition and happened to have spotted her. Now he was threatening to take her home and tell her father as well, something she had planned to do on her own...but much later.
"I wasn't trying to hide it," she quietly clarified but it was enough to set Carlton up for another shout.
"Then you would have told me or him! You're not a great liar, Belén! Did you think I would be stupid enough to buy one of your pathetic excuses?" he harshly grabbed her by the arm, meaning to pull her towards the door when Belén pushed him off, growing irritated herself.
"I wasn't going to lie to you! I was simply going to wait a bit before I told your or my Dad. And I don't understand what's the big deal, frankly," she crossed her arms, "I'm only doing my job here. Besides, apparently this Accelerator thing is going to do good for us-"
Carlton loudly scoffed, "Don't be stupid, Belén! The only thing that's gonna do is cause trouble. Do yourself a favor and stop being an idiot."
Before Belén could reply, Iris and Barry reached their location and of course intervened on Belén's behalf.
"That's no way to talk to her," it was Barry who spoke first, though Iris was right beside him ready to go next.
Belén was surprised to find the pair of friends with her, especially since she hadn't seen them anymore over the course of the night.
Carlton glared at them, only growing further irritated, "This is between her and me so-"
Iris took her turn at him and cut him off, "You make it our business when we can hear your shouts from across the room. Besides, Belén's our friend and if someone is being rude to her we're definitely going to step up."
Carlton took a step towards them but Barry cut in and blocked any way towards Iris, and in the process Belén. His stern face warned Carlton there was no joke behind his words, "Back off. There's nothing that should ever make you talk to someone the way you are."
When Belén saw Carlton stepping towards Barry she knew she had to end things, "Please, just stop!" she cut in between Carlton and Barry, begging them with words and eyes, "I didn't want any problems!"
"Should've thought of that before you came here, Belén!" Carlton snapped and reached for her arm when Barry put out an arm to block her.
"Leave her alone," he warned Carlton, gently pulling Belén to Iris' spot behind. Before Carlton opened his mouth Barry added, "And leave if you don't want security called on."
Carlton shot a look at Belén who took it with silence, "You know this is far from over," he told her, "Your father is going to want to hear about this."
"Ooh…" was all Belén said as Carlton started leaving, clearly afraid of what would come next.
Iris rubbed Belén's arm comfortingly, "Hey, don't worry."
Belén sighed and ran a hand down her face, "I cannot believe this happened. I really thought I could just get through this and then tell my Dad on my own terms."
Barry turned around wearing a confused, yet surprised, look on his face, "Is your Dad really with this guy?" he knew he had no business asking something like that but with the small moment he met Belén he knew that was not the guy that would fit her best.
Belén sheepishly looked at him, feeling embarrassed he had to witness something like that, "My Dad doesn't really know how aggressive Carlton can get. And," knowing Iris would have something to say about that, Belén looked pointedly at her friend, "I would really appreciate if no one mentioned anything to him - Iris."
Iris rolled her eyes and looked to the side, "I mean, I'm a journalist - I'm supposed to shed the truth!"
"Yeah, on the public not my Dad," Belén gently pushed her then looked back to Barry, "And I'm really sorry you had to witness this, and get rude behavior in the process. Believe me, it won't happen again."
"Can you make that a promise so I at least know my new friend won't be in harm's way?"
"I'm sorry," Belén said quietly before sighing again. The last thing she wanted was to drag people in her own problems, especially people she literally just met.
"What are you apologizing for?" Iris scolded her and earned a look from Barry, "What?" she told him next.
"Clearly, Iris needs to work on her comforting skills," Barry announced and got a small smile out of Belén, something he quickly noticed.
While Iris mockingly glared at him, Belén started fixing herself up from Carlton's aggressive movements, "It's fine, guys, really. It's nothing new to me."
"Belén, why was he so threatening with your Dad?" Barry curiously asked, hoping to change the topic from the bad moment.
"Um, well," Belén twirled one of her blonde tips, "my dad sort of works for the big rival science lab of this…" she gestured to their current spot, "...place."
"Mercury Labs," Barry realized the problem and assumed her father was against his daughter stepping foot into the rivalry lab.
Belén nodded, "Mhm. I mentioned that I this assignment and he went ballistic. He said I couldn't come...so then I kind of snuck out. He's working later than usual so I thought I could get away with it for a while. I just didn't count that Carlton would be here - he works at Mercury Labs too."
"Well then I assume you must really want to write this piece if you went through all this trouble."
At the assumption of Barry's, Iris laughed and looked at Belén, "No she doesn't. She hates the science stuff, like me!"
Belén chewed on her bottom lip while trying to form a small smile, "Well...I mean, I don't understand a lot of stuff but I know this is supposed to help people. Plus, you have to admit the pretty lights are cool."
Iris made a noise and shook her head, "Typical. The one moment I have someone on my side and she sways."
Belén chuckled and sobered up rather fast, "Thank you," she told both kind best friends, "I'm really only used to thanking Iris," she added afterwards, "So extra thank you to you, Barry."
"Well that's Barry for you," Iris gave a light shrug, "Always trying to help people."
Before Barry could remark on his embarrassment thanks to Iris, the head of the event, Dr. Harrison Wells himself, began walking up the platform at the center of the room to address the crowd. Immediately there was some applause from the crowd as all attention turned to him.
"Thank you," Wells addressed the cheering, "My name is Harrison Wells. Tonight, the future begins. The work my team and I will do here will change our understanding of physics. Will bring about advancements in power, advancements in medicine, and trust me that future will be here faster than you think-"
Unfortunately, someone decided to pickpocket Iris' bag at that moment and snatched it right off her shoulder. Iris barely felt the blow before she realized her bag was gone, "Hey!" she cried, "My laptop! It's got my dissertation."
Without a second thought, Barry ran after the thief in hopes to get the bag back. While Iris was in distress, Belén was stunned at the quick action Barry had taken on.
"Wow, he really does like to help," she said before Iris took off in the direction of the thief and Barry, "Iris, stop!" she went after the woman.
But by the time the two caught up with Barry and the thief, the thief had run off only to be arrested by a police officer. Barry, in the meanwhile, had received a good punch across the face.
"Barry, are you okay?" Iris asked for the tenth time after the whole fiasco. The three stood not too far from where the teen thief was being pushed into a police car by an overexcited cop.
"Who is that?" Belén wondered as the blonde man happily chattered with a fellow companion over what she assumed was his arrest.
"And why is he so excited over catching a mugger?" Iris crossed her arms, scrunching her nose in dislike.
"He's a transfer from Keystone," Barry told the two women, "Started a few weeks ago. Eddie Thawne."
"Oh, that's Detective Pretty Boy," Iris realized from the stories her father had told him not too long ago, "That's what my Dad calls him. Says he actually keeps score when it comes to arrests."
"He is pretty though," Belén blurted and flushed as she looked at the two beside her, "I mean, not that you guys aren't...or…" but she then thought that last 'or' made it seem like she was lying and of course she wanted to clarify, "And by the 'or' I simply meant - or thought - that maybe you guys don't go by 'pretty' and maybe…" she knew she was only rambling on and it wouldn't get better from there. With a big sigh, she made a motion with her hands she was going to stop, "I think it's time for me to go home before I say something more stupid."
"I'd rather have you say more stupid stuff than have to defend you from some guy," Iris gave her a side hug.
"I think Barry's right, you're not very good at comforting people," Belén made a face that made Barry laugh.
Iris wasn't very amused and simply huffed, "Go home, Belén."
"I will," Belén raised a hand in solemn promise, "I have to go finish writing this paper for Linda anyways."
"Linda Park?" Barry recalled the name from the several sports articles the woman wrote. "That's your boss?" the more he learned about Belén the more impressed he was of her.
Belén nodded, "Yup! Good ole, sometimes flaky, Linda. She got me into the internship years ago and she's set to be my mentor when I start on the job for real. Anyways, I really have to go. Thank you both, and it was nice meeting you, Barry."
"Likewise," Barry nodded and gave her a polite shake of hands. Belén smiled back and started off on her way home.

Arriving at home and seeing her father wasn't back yet was a big relief for Belén. She would have some time coming up with an excuse as to why she was at Star Labs. Though it wouldn't make much of a difference and her Dad would still be upset, Belén figured it was better if she came up with things to say.
"Rayan?" she called as she dropped her bag over the kitchen table, "Rayan? Are you back yet?" she called for her twin brother numerous times until she concluded he was not home either. She wasn't very surprised since he had told her earlier in the day he would be arriving later that day. Still, she'd had hope he would've came back so he could give her a final edit on her paper when she finished.
After grabbing her laptop from her room upstairs, Belén settled down at the kitchen table to write up her paper, using things she'd gotten from Nina before she left and her own thoughts. She just hoped Linda wouldn't be so picky with the final version.

Barry had arrived back to his lab in the precinct to continue with some more assignments he'd left behind. Upon arriving, he turned on his television to follow the particle accelerator's progress. He left the television to go to his wheeled-pinboard where all the information he had gathered anything he could from his mother's murder case. Every day or so he would revisit the information he had, hoping to find something he had missed.
But every day, it was the same - there was nothing new on the closed case.

Belén flinched when raging thunder crackled up in the sky. She got up from her chair in the kitchen and walked to the glass backdoor to peer outside. It was pouring rain yet she wasn't too concerned with that. Her eyes had settled on the 'pretty lights' of the Accelerator she could manage see. Curious to see just how beautiful the lights were in reality, Belén slid the glass door open and stepped out. She shivered under the cold water hitting her skin but that didn't stop her from walking further through the backyard. She only stopped to pick up one of her prized Azalea flowers that had fallen from her Azalea bushes. She couldn't risk her young nephew coming by and picking up one of the fallen poisonous flowers.
"Blasted rain," she muttered and glanced to her the Azalea's she planted long ago. She loved her flowers but specifically the Azalea for its hot pink appearance - her favorite color may or may not have been pink.
Belén placed the flower in her blouse's front pocket and came to a stop in front of the big tree at the center of the yard. She knew it was stupid, and childish, but she began climbing it.
"Oh, if Dad could see me right now," she made a face as she wondered how irritated her father would be upon seeing her drenched and up a tree simply for lights in the sky. She would be sure to get down before he returned, she promised herself.

Barry was still looking over his mother's case information on the board when he heard alarming news from the television.
'Wait, we are now being told to evacuate the facility. The storm may have caused a malfunction to the primary cooling system. Officials are now trying to shut down the particle accelerator. But so far have been unable to regain…'
Barry looked back at the television only to witness the power being cut off. He went to go close the canopy as soon as he heard a loud, violent explosion from across the city - assuming it to be Star Labs. Though he tried to remain calm it went to hell the moment he saw all the chemical liquids around the room begin to rise from their containers...just like it had happened when he was a child only minutes before his mother was murdered. By staring at the liquids in almost awe, he missed the shock-wave from the Accelerator coming towards him. At the same time, lightning struck down on him. He was thrown across the room, hitting a shelf and coming to a drop on the floor.
That was the last thing he would be seeing, or remembering, for the next nine months.

Belén had missed the calls her father was leaving for her in both the house phone and her cellphone due to the fact she was sight seeing. She took out her flower from her pocket and tried re-assorting its crushed petals. She hated when the petals would get crumpled. She took great care of them for a reason yet mother nature seemed to be against her. However, at the loud explosion she snapped her gaze back up and was horrified to see the burst of energy. Even more horrified, and now terrified, she felt when she saw the shock-wave coming straight towards her.
"N-n-n-n-n-n-n-no!" she cried as she tried to beat the shock-wave and get down from the tree. It was, of course, impossible and so the only thing she did was scream when the shock-wave pushed her off the tree. Her back violently hit the grass but by that time she was had passed out. Her lonesome azalea had landed on her palm.
There was no one to see it make contact with the grass bits underneath between her opened fingers which then merged together on her skin.

Dr. Nina Clarke was overwhelmed with all the incoming patients coming into the ER thanks to the outcome of the Particle Accelerator. She was barely getting a breather when the doors flung open and two of her co-workers urgently pushed in a new patient over a gurney.
"Oh my God…" her eyes went wider when the patient's best friend came in seconds later, "Iris?" she rushed to keep the woman from entering the bloc where the other workers were bringing Barry in.
Iris was in tears and almost incoherent but she still managed to explain a little to Nina, "Lightning! Explosion and Barry, he, he was...lightning!"
Nina blinked and put herself in front of Iris, "Okay, I'll go in and I promise we'll do our best. Stay with your dad and I'll be back, okay?"
Iris tried controlling her radical breathing and sobs as best she could but it was almost impossible. She had been terrified to receive the call from the CCPD telling her of Barry's accident. Her father had been taking care of a case and was offline for a bit so the dilemma fell on her. She thought perhaps things would get better knowing that Belén's good friend was helping out in Barry's case. Of course her tremors skyrocketed all over again when she saw none other than Belén being hurried off into the bloc as well. Her father came running afterwards, also hysterical.
Iris dropped dropped her hands from her face and rushed towards the man, "Mr. Palayta? What's going on!?"
"Iris," Belén's father was somewhat relieved to see a familiar face, "Belén...she, she was, I don't know what she was doing but she was injured from this Accelerator. Now she's off in there," he motioned to the closed doors of the bloc, "in danger of paralysis, head trauma, coma - I don't know!"
Iris' lip quivered as she turned away from Belén's father. In the same night her best friend and her college friend had been harmed and pushed to the same borderline of life and death.

3 Months after the Particle Accelerator explosion.
In a liquor store, a woman in purple leather, with a mask covering half her face, was in the middle of threatening a cashier. "Hand over the money unless you wanna die in a really nasty way."
The poor cashier shook as he reached for the register. At the same time however, the door of the liquor store was flung open, off its hinges actually.
"What the!?" the woman in purple turned to the threshold with both palms extended.
A young man walked in with a mask over his face. He raised his hands and flicked his fingers to the sides, knocking down the security cameras from the ceiling. The woman in purple shot forwards a purple mass from her palms but the man deflected the masses to the sides with another flick of his hands.
"Come now, sister, is that the way to greet me?"
The woman in purple was in horror to see after the young man threw the mask off his face. "Y-you're...you're supposed to be dead..."
The young man smirked. "And you're not supposed to be a criminal but here we are...Plasticine?"

May the 4th be with you recs!
Because fanfic is the reason I’m finally getting into Star Wars after all these years XDD
I’m gonna include the fic summaries and my takes, so plopping these under a cut for length. If you haven’t already read these, please go give them some love. And if you have, go give them some more! XD
I’m a fix-it, (at least mostly) everybody lives and (hopefully) nobody dies kinda gal, so while I certainly like something that hits in the feels, I don’t care for angst with no payoff at the end. Many of these are ongoing, but I’m confident enough in the overall feel of them to rec with that in mind. I also like long fics, so most of my recs will reflect that.
Hunting Towards Heartstill by blackkat
Pairing: Mace Windu/ CC-2224 Cody
Status: Complete, 45 chapters
Summary: Plo has an idea. Mace agrees, and everything snowballs right into hell from there.
(Or: Mace and Cody get married in order to give the clones citizen status. Before they can focus on that, though, they're going to have to deal with ancient Sith artifacts, evil prophets, plots to overthrow the Supreme Chancellor, lost planets, monsters warped by Sith alchemy, inconvenient feelings, and Darth Sidious turning his eye on a potential new apprentice. Just...not in that order.)
Notes: Kat’s going to have her whole section recc’d in a minute, but this one is near and dear to my heart, so it get’s a special spot. This is the one that got me into the Star Wars fandom at all. And by “into the fandom” I mean I have never seen/read a single piece of Star Wars media outside of gifsets and funky graphic t-shirts in my entire life. And now here we are XDD
In short, as with anything kat writes, the characterization is top-notch, the wit even more so, and the feels will leave you broken to pieces only to bring you back together better than when you started at the end of it all. Enjoy <3
All of blackkat’s Star Wars fics, by she who never expected to be a part of this fandom so everyone thank sol for being a bastard and cher for having terrible, amazing, tempting, too-good prompts XD
Notes: As promised, I did indeed just link all of blackkats Star Wars fics XD Most are one shots, with several longer ongoing, and one very special one complete. Pairings and settings will vary, but I can promise you one thing: you can absolutely trust kat with your heart, no matter how angsty it seems (tho take those cliffie warnings seriously!). Enjoy, and may the Force be with you! <3
The Hero With a Thousand Faces by beamirang
Pairing: Jango/Obi-Wan
Status: Part 1 is a one-shot prologue, part 2 ongoing
Summary: “We’re going to kidnap a Jedi?” Boba sounds far more excited by the prospect than most twelve-year-olds probably should. And, because he’s Jango’s boy, because he’s too kriffing smart for his own good, he catches on way too quickly. “Wait. Are we kidnapping your Jedi?”
Notes: Fantastic characterization and writing - very witty (as one would expect with Obi and Fett XD) but also excellent on the heavier emotional aspects as well.
The Desert Storm by Blue_Sunshine
Pairing: None
Status: 17 parts complete, part 18 ongoing
Summary: In Tatooine legend, the sandstorm is Lukka, the Fury, both cleansing and damning. Lukka, the slaves believed, was Justice, was he who remade the world, and remade the soul. The storm screams at him, and Obi-Wan Kenobi screams back.
Notes: It’s a time travel fic! It’s one of my favourite tropes when done correctly, and this one certainly does :) Love the characters, they have so much depth and growth over the series. And while this far it is 100% a “everybody lives nobody dies” kinda story, there is no sacrifice in plot or narrative tension. Wonderful proof that there can be other narrative stakes in a story than just character death.
Under One Flag by NeurotropicAgentX
Pairing: Padme Amidala/Obi-Wan Kenobi/Darth Maul
Status: Two single chapter parts. Marked as incomplete with no further updates since 2017, but the chapters stand alone, no cliffhangers.
Summary: The story of how Padmé Amidala becomes the reluctant Empress of the galaxy and acquires a pair of Force-sensitive bodyguards. Deals with the light and dark side conflict, the politics of an Empire, and Dathomirian Culture.
Notes: A fun little read! The dynamics between the three were interesting, and who doesn’t love the idea of Empress Padme? :D
By A Barista by Tomatosoupful
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Anakin
Status: Complete, 7 chapters
Summary: Obi-Wan/Anakin, Modern Coffee Shop AU unapologetically set in Australia. Some Star Wars story lines and character arcs adapted into modern coffee versions.Anakin doesn't really know why Qui-Gon hired him despite having no experience in coffee making or table service, and he knows this bothers the barista, Obi-Wan, but hey, at least he gets to look at the handsome guy while he complains.
Notes: Another fun little read! I love social disaster Ani in modern settings, ngl XD
The Snowball Effect by Ghost_Owl
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Anakin
Status: Complete, 2 chapters
Summary: Anakin had not meant to nail the cute guy from his building in the face with a snowball.Obi Wan had absolutely meant to hit him back.
Notes: Another cute read! Once again Ani is a disaster, and Obi-Wan only less so by direct comparison XD I particularly remember this story for the author coining the phrase I now recognize as my favourite paring trope - two halves of a whole idiot XDD
Reprise by Elfpen
Pairing: None
Status: 7 parts, current part ongoing
Summary: Ben Kenobi dies aboard the Death Star in the year 0 BBY. He wakes up shortly thereafter in the Jedi temple in the year 41 BBY. Haunted by memories and regret, Ben must forge a new path for himself in the Jedi Order of his youth while navigating the murky waters of time travel. Crafting a better future from bitter experience is hard, but learning to heal is even harder. Major AU.
Notes: This one I found on the heels of Desert Storm, and while they are initially cut from the same cloth, you’ll find they immediately develop their own unique flavours. If you like time-travel fix-its (which I do ;D) then this is a great read, and has some lovely art to go with it!
Life and What Comes After by Ibelin
Pairing: None
Status: First part one-shot complete, second part ongoing
Summary: Obi-Wan dies on Jabiim. Anakin blames himself, doesn't know how to go on and yet - he does. Maybe the Force rewards that kind of thing, or maybe he just gets lucky, but when a mission lands Anakin on a vaguely familiar planet, he gets a second chance to do what he knows he should have done in the first place: save his master.(And maybe a chance to save the galaxy, too.)
Notes: *Don’t worry, Obi-Wan does not in fact die!*
Ngl, what attracted me to this fic in the first place was the tag “Unrealistically Well-Adjusted Anakin Skywalker” X’D For all they say that though, his growth as a person is actually written very believably - he’s still Ani, but you see the work he put in. And damn do I love me some real communication between Obi and Ani, and damn do we ever get that here. Obi kinda backtracks that a bit with his own self-esteem issues in part two, but I have no doubt the boys will get through it!
Definitely recommend, it’s got some really wonderful family feels <3
Witness Me by SLWalker
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Maul
Status: 7 parts, final story part(s) ongoing (part 5 is the main series that’s ongoing, part 6 scattered one-shots, part 7 art for the series)
Summary: Instead of escaping to Lotho Minor, Maul's captured by the Order. Obviously, that changes everything.
Notes: I’m currently reading this one! The first several parts focus on building the relationship between Obi and Maul. Then in part 5 we start to focus more on Maul growing as his own person, though he is absolutely still Obi-Wans other half. Get ready for some clone feels, because I guarantee you will fall hard and fast for the Blackbirds once you meet them <3 <3 <3 I also appreciate that while there is definite censure for the Jedi council as a whole for certain decisions, and Anakin is his canon disaster self, there is no character bashing or throwing under buses, and conversely no hero worship either. Thus far everyone is treated fairly - I really enjoy that we tend to see not only several outside views of characters and situations, but also a lot of introspection as well.
If you’re in it for the people, this story is very much for you <3

Chapter 1: Cisco and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Read Prologue here
Everything was always immaculate here, Cisco thought. How the walls and floors were shining white and polished. The state of the art equipment expensive in a way that had him skittish to touch the first few weeks, afraid of being scolded for using them.
He never was.
The people around him were too busy to take his notice, in their white coats and pencil skirts with heels bustling around him, all doing their jobs, just like Cisco was doing his. And how nice, he thought, getting to do this for real, some day.
Cisco was busy scribbling his signature on the papers, finalizing his last report after the data entry he finished. The lab was near empty, and he glanced around it, committing all the details to memory. He had taken to this lab from the very moment he had been assigned to the department, it had served well this summer as a quiet safe space, a home away from home.
Immersed in his paperwork, Cisco missed the mechanic swish of the automated glass door sliding open, not realizing he had company until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He smiled up at his supervisor, The Dr. Wells. It’s been three months and he still couldn’t believe it.
“Well, it’s three-thirty. You’re done. How does it feel?”
Cisco let go of his pen and sighed wistfully. “Honestly, Sir. Kinda down. I really like it here.”
“I’m glad. You were excellent to work with. I’ve already drafted a glowing recommendation for wherever you choose to pursue your higher education.”
A flush came to his face, and Cisco glanced aside, shy from the praise.
“Thank you, Dr. Wells.”
“No, thank you. Where are you wanting to go to school?”
Cisco opened his mouth to reply when Tess Morgan sidled up to Dr. Wells’s side.
He wrapped an arm around his wife’s waist and she clucked her tongue. “Don’t stress him, Harrison. He still has plenty of time to decide.”
“Well, my girlfriend and I were always planning for an Ivy,” Cisco said. “But I’d also take MIT or Caltech.”
“Engineering, I hope.”
“Yessir.”
Cisco stood up, unclipping his ID. School started tomorrow. Somehow swapping his Star Labs keycard for his old library pass was kind of depressing.
He looked down at it, his laminated card, the serial number they gave him. The picture he had taken on his first day, how he was pretty sure he blinked and yet it still turned out better than any framed Picture Day photograph hanging on the walls at home.
He felt important here. Like he belonged, like someone finally (finally) looked at him and went Yes, you. We like you. You’re good.
Cisco knew he was good, in the back of his mind, front of his mind, whatever. His GPA said so. His report cards said so. Barry said so (Hartley didn't, but who cared about him). Caitlin used to say so. He felt he was good.
Cisco hoped he was good, but was he really? Enough?
Probably not. And still, this taste of a dream, of his future that he so desperately wants to live now already is enough to motivate him to work harder to get it again. Permanently, next time. With his own lab and a desk with his name on it. A degree, a couple of them, with his name in latin script hanging nearby next to a window.
Hold your horses, he told himself. He needed to graduate high school first.
Cisco gave up his ID, handing it to Dr. Wells.
Dr. Wells looked down at the badge, but didn’t say anything for a while.
Tess grinned, “Oh stop with the suspense, look how sad the boy is, just tell him already.”
“What?” Cisco asked, looking back and forth between the scientist and his wife, unfollowing.
“The thing is, Mr. Ramon,” Dr. Wells began, returning the ID, “I’m not sure I want this back. Because the truth is, I’ve grown quite fond of you. And Tess and I were wondering if you’d like to continue shadowing at Star Labs during the Fall. Say, twice a week after school?”
Cisco’s jaw nearly dropped to the floor. “You want me to stay?!”
“We’d love to have you, Cisco,” Tess finished, beaming. “What do you say?”
“—I’d have to ask my parents,” he said immediately, and he winced at how juvenile that sounded but was relieved to see the two nod in agreement, “But that would be the best thing I’ve heard all summer.”
“Come back sometime next week, schedule an appointment and we can discuss contracts with a legal consultant, and a guardian of course.”
“Thank you so much!”
Dr. Wells shook his head, shooing him out. “Go. Enjoy your last day of summer vacation.”
~.~
Cisco was on cloud nine when he parked Dante’s car in the guest garage of Caitlin’s estate, bouncing on his heels in the elevator.
He fired off a quick text to tell her he made it in, then bounded for her library where he knew she would be memorizing the course outlines for tomorrow’s schedule. He creeped up behind her where she was reading silently at her desk, still a little off guard at all the tin-foil silver in her hair.
He covered her eyes, kissing her cheek and she dropped her pen. “Guess who?” he murmured.
Cisco removed his hands and she turned her head over her shoulder. “Hi.” Her eyes shined bright and soft, blinking at him with easy cheer. He couldn’t keep it in any longer, the news near busting inside him as he rubbed up and down her bare arms excitedly.
“Guess who’s boyfriend just got offered a Fall placement at Star Labs?”
Caitlin gaped, turning around. “Mine?”
“Yours! And Dr. Wells said he already wrote me a letter of recommendation for college!”
Caitlin squeezed his hand. “That’s amazing, oh my gosh! You deserve it!”
He shared her smile, pulling her up from the chair, and turning on the lights. Why she kept herself hidden in the dark alcove with only a window was beyond him when her house was equipped with the best green energy efficient systems on the market.
Her words spread a warmth in his chest and he wanted to believe them, but still, doubt creeped into his mind. His fingers skimmed over her dark wooden desk, focusing on rearranging her gel pens.
“Do you think so, really? All I was doing was writing notes and doing small lab assignments.”
Caitlin folded her arms, raising an eyebrow. “Stop selling yourself so short. You’re the smartest person I know.”
He looked up at her. "You're not just saying that because I'm your boyfriend so you kinda have to, but really, secretly, like deep down next your dark chocolate obsession you think Lily Stein the smartest?"
Caitlin laughed, swatting his arm like that would smack the silliness out of his head. "I am not obsessed with dark chocolate!"
"Sure you're not," he countered, eyes crinkling when she pressed a kiss to his cheek to distract him from checking her waste paper basket to prove his point.
"Lily's intelligent. Hartley's sharp. But you're my favourite smartypants," she said.
Cisco smirked a little, “You think Hartley got the same offer? Bet he didn’t.”
Caitlin rolled her eyes at Cisco’s ongoing battle with his nemesis, choosing not to comment. “We should celebrate.”
“We should,” he enthused, offering her his arm. She took it, looking at him expectantly. “How about dinner?”
~.~
After food, Cisco took Caitlin to the little dessert shop that overlooked the river. They shared cheesecake and Sprite, clinking each other’s forks.
Caitlin kept looking over at the water, quiet.
She’d been like that, lately, off and on. Like she'd fall into moods where she was afraid to talk.
“Is everything okay?”
She took a moment to respond, scraping cheesecake off the plate. “Fine.”
He gave her a look. Maybe there were things that changed between them. But Cisco will never lose the skill of knowing when she lied. And Caitlin knew that too.
“I’m just—Worried. About school.”
“You love school.”
“I love learning,” she corrected, wrinkling her nose. “I don’t love CC High. Not anymore.”
“That’s fair.”
“I’ve been dreaming about this year since middle school. Starting it with you and applying to college. I’ve wanted to be a doctor for so long. What if I don’t get into a good school?”
Cisco held his tongue. There was zero chance that Caitlin would be rejected from any university, and, to be frank, there was nothing her mother’s money couldn’t buy. She was a shoo in, has been since Freshman year to all the good schools. And even if she weren't a phenomenal student, legacy alone would admit Caitlin into every college her mother’s research was affiliated with.
He thought about Tess Morgan, and echoed her sentiment. “Isn’t it a little early?”
Caitlin looked out at the water again.
He wondered if her mother was pressuring her. He wouldn't be surprised, school was ramping up soon and with that came a tremendous amount of stress after years of all talk. Maybe Dr. T had finally laid down the law, and it was daunting. Cisco assumed it would be, considering the pressure he put on himself, and he didn't even have anyone counting on him to make it. At least, not until he met the Wells family, and their encouragement had never been coercive. Maybe coercive wasn't the right word. Caitlin's mom was...Intense.
“...Is this about Star Labs? Because I can put in a good word about you with Dr. Wells or help you find—“
He watched Caitlin’s face fall, rushing to deny it. “No, no no. It’s not that. I promise. I don’t mind. You don’t have to do that. I just—I left such a mess.”
Cisco reflected on the past year. She was not wrong. But it was not all her fault.
She gave him a sad smile, “I just wish things didn’t have to change.”
Cisco frowned, sensing she was talking about something a little beyond high school. “They don’t. You’re my forever, Caitlin. Nothing has to change, I’m right here.”
She blinked back tears, shrugging. “I just miss...” she went to her locket. The one she’s never taken off since the funeral. The one with his picture in it, hiding under her dad’s.
His face softened as it clicked. He should've known.
He took her hand, kissing it softly.
“I know.”
~.~
Cisco had a Pop-Tart hanging out of his mouth as he dumped all of his things into his old school bag. He ran a brush through his hair a few times, threw on a light jean jacket, and slung the bag over his shoulder. He bit off another gooey piece before banging on the bathroom door.
“Dante, dios!” he shouted over the loud rush of water. He’s been in there for half an hour already.
“The bathroom! I have to go!”
His mom’s voice called from downstairs. “Deja entrar a tu hermano!”
He rattled on the doorknob, but it was locked. He swore under his breath again, checking his watch. “Dude!”
“Bro, calm down, what the fuck,” Dante groused, unlocking the door with a towel around his waist. The steam went billowing out and Cisco almost choked on the intensity of the deodorant spray.
He pushed past Dante, muttering, going for his toothbrush. He paused before sticking it in his mouth with the toothpaste. “Aren’t you late? Don’t you have an 8:30 class?”
His brother rolled his eyes. “Chill. I’m skipping.”
Cisco’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head, spitting into the sink.
“You’re skipping?”
Dante rolled his eyes. “Oh my god, you’re such a nerd. It’s not like high school, dumbass. Everyone skips class in college.”
“Is it recorded?”
“No.”
“Do you have friends in your class to take notes from?”
“No.”
“Are you going to work on another class instead?”
“No. I’m going to watch Netflix then probably take another nap before practice with the band.”
Cisco ran his hand through his nicely done hair. “Dante, I don’t understand you.”
Dante walked across the hall to their shared room, pulling on clothes.
“Don’t worry about it. Have a nice day at school. Kiss all the teacher’s asses for me.”
Cisco pulled himself together, breathing in deeply, reminding himself that he loved his brother and wasn’t allowed to smack him while he glared.
“Can I use your car?” he gritted between his teeth as Dante shuffled his hair some, ruining it altogether.
Dante waved him off. “I don’t use that crap anymore. It might as well be yours.”
He was already texting Caitlin that he was coming to pick her up, his eyes glued to his phone as he walked out the front door when his mother pulled him back by the strap of his backpack.
She kissed both his cheeks, pushing a sandwich into his hands. “Don’t break that attendance record. Give Caitlin a kiss for me.”
“Si,” he replied, waving goodbye at his little sister shrieking his name before he jogged down the apartment steps, not bothering to wait for the elevator.
Why’d his place always have to be so hectic?
~.~
Caitlin kissed him after she slammed the car door close, buckling in her seatbelt, grumbling under her breath.
"Mom troubles?"
"Just drive."
Cisco looked in the rearview mirror as he put the Toyota in reverse.
It was windy in a nice crisp September morning way, and Caitlin rolled down the window.
“You look cute,” he said as he drove off her estate.
Caitlin shrugged, “I wear a blazer every first day. It’s tradition.”
“I’ve noticed.”
It fell quiet. Caitlin wasn’t much of a morning person, and it was the first day of the scariest school year they’d face yet. There was too much going on in their minds for riveting conversations.
Cisco took a swig of water at a red light ten minutes later, stuck in the morning rush hour. He swished it in his mouth then swallowed.
“So I was thinking—”
“I was wondering—”
They both stopped.
“You go first,” Caitlin said.
“I was thinking that maybe you should talk to Barry before the bell. Just to get a fresh start. I can come with you.”
Caitlin curled her fingers around her designer bag, some big brand fashion company with lots of consonants like X and Z’s that Cisco could never remember.
“I don’t want to."
Cisco frowned. “But why? Barry isn’t mad at you, Caitlin. He just wants you to come back. He’s our best friend.”
She put her hand on his arm.
“You’re my best friend. You’re the only one I need.”
“So what, I’m stuck in the middle now? Homeroom to lunch with Barry, fourth period to final bell with you? How is that fair?”
“Actually,” she said. “I was thinking maybe we don’t make that big of a deal of it? Like, do people even need to know that we’re together again? Look what happened last time.”
Cisco narrowed his eyes. He didn’t like where this was going. “Caitlin. Everybody loves you. Nobody really loves me. This has already been established after what happened in April. Why does it matter anymore?”
She hesitated, tapping her fingers against the arm rest, leaning her head against the window. “I don’t want you to be a target again.”
“I don’t care,” Cisco said. “It’s just high school crap. I’m hoping we all got it out of our systems junior year. I haven’t kissed you in the hallway for how many months?”
Caitlin smiled down at her lap. “Six.”
Cisco made a disgruntled noise. “Six and a half, actually, but who’s counting?”
“Not me,” she lied.
They shared a glance.
“That’s too long. I’m not letting shitty people with nothing better to do stop me and neither should you.”
“Okay.”
She leaned over and kissed him quickly, then told him the light was green.
~.~
They had four classes together, but not homeroom, so Caitlin and Cisco split ways early on in the morning.
The bell rang, and Professor Stein cleared his throat.
“Welcome students to a bright academic year ahead!”
The class groaned, and Cisco shared an amused glance with Iris.
She leaned in, “Why does he say that every year?”
Cisco grimaced. “Fourth time’s the charm?”
Professor Stein told everyone to settle down as he took attendance, handed out the dozens of photocopied papers that needed their parents’ signatures and read the announcements. Soon enough, the bell rang, and they all got up to get to their first classes of the day.
Iris strapped her messenger bag over her shoulder. She wasn’t in the science stream, so this would be their only time together until humanities and AP English, which they didn’t have today.
“See you at lunch?”
“Yeah,” he said, then thought of something. “Can you keep an eye out for Caitlin? I’m just—Not sure what she’s thinking she’s going to do.”
“You mean with Lexi.”
He quirked an eyebrow. Students were starting to come in, so Cisco hurried out, grabbing Iris by the hand as the hallways started to flood. “You don’t like her either.”
Iris laughed callously, and they walked to their lockers. “Hell no.”
“Oh thank god,” he breathed, trying to keep up with her quick pace. “I just don’t understand why she won't try to fix things. You haven’t said anything to her, have you? You two aren't fighting?”
Cisco watched Iris hang her coat up. “No,” she said. “Fighting? We're not even talking. Don’t get me wrong. I was pissed last year. What she did was awful.”
He felt the need to defend her, when he knew he probably shouldn’t. Iris must’ve saw the look on his face and rolled her eyes.
“No need to get all Caitlin Snow protection squad on me. I don’t hold grudges like that. I came to the funeral, didn’t I?”
Patty and Linda showed up, tugging Iris away. “Hey, gotta jet, but I’ll try, okay? I’ll do some digging for you. Shawna’s pretty easy to squeeze.”
Cisco wanted to thank her, but she was too far gone, giggling with her friends.
He sighed, standing in the middle of the hall. Without even a second longer to breathe, Jake Puckett barged into him. “Watch it, mosquito.”
“We’re back to that, Jake? Really?” Cisco yelled after him, still getting jostled as the crowd of students thickened in the tight corridor.
Puckett continued his taunting. “You look like a girl. Why don’t you get a haircut?”
“Maybe my girl likes it long dipshit,” he shot back. “Not like you’d know what that’s like.”
That sent Cisco flying into the lockers.
“I deserved that one,” he muttered to himself, trying not to wince at the way the metal hinges dug into his back. He dropped his folder when he hit the wall, his green permission slips about emergency contact information and school behavioural contracts now getting stepped on by careless idiots he called classmates.
He darted between people in the crowd to get them back, annoyed that nobody cared to help him. Then, annoyed that he expected this shit to change now that he was a Senior in the first place.
Just one more year. One more year, Cisco uttered under his breath like a mantra, falling into his ethics class’ front row seat just on time.
Their teacher started sprouting some stupid idea about going around and introducing themselves, as if everybody hasn’t already known each other since elementary.
“Hi? Um, my name is Brie Larvan. And I want to be a beekeeper.”
Cisco rubbed his temples, his mantra intensified.
~.~
By lunch, Cisco was waiting by Caitlin’s locker.
He saw her walk out of history with Lexi and Shawna. She paused at seeing him, her eyes going a little wide.
“Cisco, what are you doing?” she said, looking nervously at Lexi and Shawna, who had their arms crossed with identical bitch faces.
“Lunch?”
“Like, disappear mosquito. She doesn’t want lunch with you.”
Caitlin frowned, opening her locker. She put a new textbook into a top shelf and grabbed her lunch box. “We don't call my boyfriend that. Yes, I do want lunch with him.”
She took Cisco’s hand, and he rose an eyebrow at Shawna, a smidge too smug.
“Sorry ladies, later.”
"Your boyfriend?"  Shawna repeated, jaw dropping open.
Lexi gasped. “Caity!”
He felt her tension just by the way she held his hand. “I’ll see you in class, I’m still sitting next to you in art, just like we promised, right?”
Lexi’s smile looked a little off kilter. “Of course. Right. See you there, then. Have fun with...Cisco.”
Cisco, who had been trying to look anywhere but Lexi, eventually met her gaze.
She gave him a look, sucking lipstick off her teeth. It sent a chill down his spine, and he had forgotten (really, no, he hasn't, he really hasn't) how much he hated her.
She arched an eyebrow high in the air, like she was challenging him to acknowledge her. But Cisco didn't play her games.
He pulled Caitlin away, lacing their fingers together.
~.~
Cisco let Caitlin drag him far from Barry’s table without putting up a fight. In fact, they weren’t even eating in the cafeteria. They sat in the courtyard, watching the soccer team tryouts as Caitlin opened her packed box from her chef.
It was a nice day. Caitlin really did look gorgeous in her burgundy blazer and pleated skirt. It suited her, that classy uniform chic, and for the first time a thought occurred to him that struck odd. Caitlin belonged in a private school. One with 4.0 cut-offs, loads of legacy families, and a hundred thousand dollars for tuition. Dr. T letting her daughter stay in Central City to go to public school was a bit weird. She didn’t really belong here.
Cisco picked at dandelions as they talked, wondering why the grass was so unkept.
About twenty minutes in, Caitlin gave him a sly look.
Cisco looked up from his lunch, knowing that expression all too well. “If you’re going to kiss me, please let me finish my chicken first or else I never will, and I’m really hungry.”
She ignored him completely, prying the plastic container out of his hands. “Hey missy, I said I wasn’t— Mmmph!”
He missed this. He missed her. This Caitlin. His Caitlin.
It was like all the darkness swarming underneath her surface dissipated, and her true light was shining through.
He laughed as she climbed into his lap to kiss him more. They could get demerit points for this, and that heightened the sense of thrill. If they got caught it would be so worth it.
A shrill whistle pierced through the air and the two sprang apart. There was a foul on the soccer field.
“Still hungry?” she smirked with mirth, wiping the rest of her smudged lip gloss off.
He played with her silvery hair. “Um, yes,” he flirted, catching Caitlin’s heated gaze. “Famished.”
“Good thing I’m here then,” she murmured.
“Yes,” he agreed, inching closer. “Very good,” and slipped his tongue in her mouth.
They made out until the bell.
~.~
Outside was beautiful and peaceful. Cisco started to understand why Caitlin brought him out there.
“Oh my god, Caitlin! Over here!” Lisa shouted at the door, gesturing wildly at her to come back into the side entrance of school. “Hi Cisco!”
“Hey Lisa.”
Lisa Snart. She was something else, that one. Cute, in a dumb like a rock kind of way.
Maybe that was mean.
Lexi appeared over Lisa’s shoulder. "Come on, Caitlin! We’re going to be late!”
He got up with a sigh, and gave his girlfriend a hand. She took it, hers slender and soft in his, and didn’t let go.
They began walking towards Caitlin’s new posse.
“Why are they so possessive? It’s unnerving,” he couldn’t help but blurt out.
“It’s not me. It’s you. They think—”
“I know what they think,” he snapped, cross. As did everybody, no doubt. Cisco kicked at a littered soda can. “Tell them I didn’t.”
“I tried! They won’t believe me!”
“Then ditch them. It’s not that hard.”
She turned to him sympathetically, kissing him one last time.
“I can’t, Cisco. They’re my friends. I like them.” She untangled their fingers.
“No, you don’t.”
“I do,” she insisted. “Stop saying things as if you’re me. I’m me. If they’re my friends then I’m not lying and you have to understand that.”
Cisco felt properly chastened. He took a step back, quiet. “Okay.”
“Thank you. I’ll see you later.”
Lisa and Lexi took to each of Caitlin’s sides, linking their arms together. Only Lisa looked back.
~.~
“Where were you? You dipped lunch. Iris said you’d be there.”
It was the second to last period of the day, and it just had to be gym, didn’t it?
Cisco ducked at the incoming fire of dodgeballs. “Yeah, sorry. Caitlin wanted to eat outside.”
A ball rolled to a stop beside him. He picked it up and chucked it, barely getting it past the midline.
The one class he and Barry weren’t good at. So what.
“You mean she didn’t want to eat with me.”
Cisco stopped, looking around. His team was going to lose no matter what.
“I think she’s just really embarrassed. Give her some time.”
“Time?” Barry exclaimed, nearly getting hit in the face. “It’s been almost half a year! I miss her so bad. She’s in my geography class and she sat next to Bad Luck Becky instead of me.”
“Dude, watch out!”
“Huh?” Barry spun around in the wrong direction, and Cisco cringed as Barry got hit in the back by Woodworth, officially out.
Cisco followed him to the bench, not caring to even pretend he was playing anymore.
“What’s her deal?”
Cisco wrung his hands. “I don’t know. Her dad, I think. It shook her hard, and we weren’t there for her.”
Barry’s fingers were calming on his shoulder, unlike Dante’s, and different from Armando’s.
“Don’t beat yourself up about that. She pushed us away.”
It was easy for Barry to say that. Barry the best friend, their happy third wheel. It wasn’t the same for Cisco. Cisco, who had offered to pick Caitlin up when she fell down the slide in the first grade, who she had won the regional science fair with in grade 3, who she first told when they were ten that her dad was sick, really sick, and I really need a hug.
Barry was always there and supportive and the best friend, but he had Iris. Before him came Cisco and Caitlin. They were a duo, a package deal, each other’s forever.
Even if she pushed him away, even if she hurt him. She never meant to, just as hurt and twice as lonely.
“She needed me and I wasn’t there until it was too late. Now she doesn’t know who to trust.”
Barry reached for his water bottle, taking a long sip.
“So she trusts LaRoche? She knows what she did to you, doesn’t she?”
It was humiliating just thinking about it.
Cisco shook his head. “She only knows that I tutored her for the SATs.”
Three thumps on the back was what it took for Barry to stop coughing, spluttering water everywhere.
“You need to tell Caitlin. ”
“No. Drop it. And don’t tell Iris either.”
“But—”
Coach Adam’s bullhorn blew sharply, interrupting them both.
“— Allen! Back on the court! Don’t make me give you another C!”
~.~
The last class of the day was math with Professor Stein. Cisco had it with Caitlin, and they sat in the front row, scribbling notes furiously to keep up with their teacher’s enthusiastic ramblings. When the final bell rang, Professor Stein called them both to stay behind.
“I’ve got something for my 4.0 lovebirds.”
He leaned behind his desk for two thick envelopes and deposited one in each one's hands.
Caitlin tore hers open quickly, curiosity getting to the best of her. A stack of viewbooks from prestigious schools were freshly pressed, smelling like new paper.
“Straight from the guidance counsellor's office. They’re not yet out on rotation, you see, but I figured my overachieving students wanted a first peak.”
“Oh wow,” Caitlin replied, already looking into the Harvard one. “These have the updated statistics.”
“Of course, my dear.”
Cisco leafed through the schools in his selection, pausing at MIT, eyes lingering on rolling green hills of its campus.
Professor Stein pointed at Cisco. “And how was your internship at Star Labs?”
“The greatest. They want me to continue twice after school.”
“Really now? That’s quite remarkable.”
“Isn’t it?” Caitlin smiled, proud of him. Cisco blushed. “I told him so.”
There was a knock at the door, and Shawna appeared. “Caitlin we need you right now. It’s an emergency.”
Caitlin looked to Cisco.
“I thought I was driving you home. We could look at these together.”
“We really need you, Caity. Becky’s crying. I can drive you home.”
“Tomorrow,” Caitlin promised, squeezing his shoulder, then thanked Professor Stein again for the viewbooks.
Cisco tugged on her blazer for a goodbye kiss, reluctant to let her go. She leaned in, her fingers delicate on his face, smiling against his lips.
Shawna stomped a little, rolling her eyes, “Can we go?”
“One minute,” Caitlin said, looking into his eyes. “We’ll go over our favourite schools tomorrow?”
He raised an eyebrow, the corners of his mouth quirking upwards. “It’s a date.”
She grabbed her bag and the envelope, then followed Shawna out the door.
Cisco watched Caitlin scurry after Shawna, who was stomping away in her spiked combat boots.
“I’m glad that whatever squabble you two had seems to be put behind you.”
Cisco turned to their teacher, unashamed that he witnessed him smitten.
“Me too.”
Professor Stein had always been perceptive and easily approachable. Cisco had gone to him in times of trouble in the past four years plenty.
Cisco sat on a desk as Professor Stein tidied up, reflecting. “Sir, how do you help someone through grief?”
His teacher took off his glasses, cleaning them with the edge of his shirt before he responded. “This is about the passing of Dr. Snow?”
Everyone knew. He supposed they had to, not only because Caitlin’s dad had been an active donor and contributor to the restructuring of Central City High’s science stream, but because Cisco guessed it was required for her teachers to take special attention.
“She’s just not the same.”
“She won’t be,” he advised, firm yet gentle. “She lost one of the most important figures in her life.”
The only figure, Cisco thought bitterly, thinking about Dr. T’s suspicious absence in Caitlin’s life. It always made him scratch his head, how two people who lived in the same house could avoid and ignore each other for so long.
If Cisco could avoid Dante, he would.
Maybe it was a matter of the size of the house.
“I want to be there for her, but sometimes I feel like she’s pushing me away. Do I give her that space? Should I be persistent? Love is hard,” Cisco groaned after his monologue, flopping against the row of desks as if he were in a therapist’s office, not his math class. His teacher chuckled at him.
“Ah, but is your affection for Miss Snow difficult to muster? It takes effort for you to demonstrate your care?”
“No,” Cisco protested. “No, that’s easy.”
Professor Stein tapped on his shoes, asking him to get them off the desks.
Cisco's legs swung over the side obediently, and he sat back up.
Professor Stein tilted his head, and Cisco was alarmed to realize how his favourite teacher’s hair was beginning to grey.
Maybe that’s what made him stand out. After teaching as a professor and publishing his books, he came back to a high school to teach kids because he cared about them. Cisco didn't think he could do that. Lily was really lucky to have him as a dad.
“I know you love her Mr. Ramon. Patience is virtue. You’re astute for a young man of your age. Show her that love the best you can.”
That sounded about right.
“Yessir.”
“Now go home, enjoy those viewbooks.”
Cisco tucked the envelope under his arm, and took his advice.
~.~
Cisco was leafing through the glossy pages of Duke’s viewbook at the kitchen table, trying to concentrate through the constant keyboard banging leaking through the adjacent wall. He wasn’t allowed to ask Dante to be quiet, not even when he had to study and it was one of his pet peeves.
Don’t disturb him, Mama would always say, but his keyboard had an ear jack? Cisco had bought Dante a good quality headset a year and a half ago, thinking it would be a great gift to them both.
Dante didn’t use them, Cisco bet the wrapping was still on the box, buried somewhere in their closet considering he’s never seen them and it’s not like their room was very big. So who was the one really being unnecessarily disturbed?
How their neighbours haven't come pounding on their front door yet begging for silence was a mystery to him.
He was just getting into the gritty details of the application requirements when Rosita peered up at him on her tiptoes. Her ten little fingers gripped the table, eyes barely making it past the edge as she pushed herself up to see what Cisco was looking at.
“What are you doing?”
“Leyendo,” he said absentmindedly, showing her the bright graphs. She didn’t reply, and he looked down, how she had zero reaction, then forgot she was still fuzzy on verbs. Forgot that she couldn’t even read yet.
“Reading,” he translated. “For college. See? This is in North Carolina.”
“You’re leaving?” her voice wobbles, thick with hurt. “Like ‘Mando?”
Armando’s been gone at Cleveland State for two years, majoring in business. Cisco’s surprised sometimes that Ro even remembers their oldest brother.
“Not right away. But next year, yeah.”
Cisco didn’t see the big deal. He felt Rosita was pretty lucky, getting the apartment practically to herself. Cisco would have loved to be left alone growing up, not constantly stuck rubbing shoulders with the six people crammed into their three bedroom apartment with nowhere to breathe. But Caitlin and Barry both said growing up as an only child was lonely, wishing for siblings. Cisco wouldn’t know.
“Why?”
“Because I want to go to school, like the one you’re going to start tomorrow,” he explained. He glanced down at the entrance requirements and chuckled at his own analogy. “Except this isn’t kindergarten.”
There was just enough room for Rosita to squeeze onto his seat. He patted the space, and she climbed up with a little "oof” until their thighs were pressed together.
He read to her what was on the page just to keep her busy. It was the pictures she was interested in anyways.
“Where’s Mama?” he asked after a while. They had moved on from Duke to Stanford. Their dad still wasn’t home from work either, but he wouldn’t be, he usually wasn’t at this time.
Rosita shrugged her shoulders and Cisco rolled his eyes at himself, wondering why he expected the five year old of the house to have all the answers.
He slid off the chair, noticing the way she was droopy, her messy black curly hair spilling against the table as she leaned her head against it.
“Did you have a snack?”
She rolled her head from side to side with a whine. Cisco took that for a no.
He pulled out a fruit roll-up from the kitchen, ignoring Caitlin’s voice in the back of his head warning about high fructose.
After seeing to it that she’s good with opening the wrapper, Cisco knocked loudly on the doorframe of his and Dante’s room. “Where’s Mama?”
Dante kept playing, ignoring him. Cisco marched right over to the outlet and unplugged the keyboard.
“Hey!”
“Yo Beethoven. Were you supposed to be taking care of Rosita? Because I came home to her climbing the curtains, Dante.”
His brother waved him off, “She’s fine.”
“She was hungry.”
Dante glanced up at the clock on the wall.
“Mama went grocery shopping. We’re going to have dinner soon anyways.”
“Not for another few hours, I wasn’t supposed to be home this early. You can’t leave her alone like that she’s too young, and Mama expects us watch her!”
Dante banged his fist against the quiet keys, and Cisco had to keep a straight face at how that looked. “Stop fucking lecturing me, I’m older than you!”
“By a year,” Cisco scoffed. “Don’t go on about being 18 if you won’t even act like an adult.”
“Yeah, because you want to be an adult so bad, Cisco, don’t you? It’s just a number it doesn’t make you older.”
Not for the first time, Cisco found himself missing Armando. Things were easier with Dante when he was around, how he was practical like Dante yet level-minded like himself.
The door slammed loud behind him, frustrated. Dante was Dante. What was he to do? At least he got his car.
Cisco took his stack of books to the living room, wiping off Rosita’s sticky fingerprints from off the Stanford cover and got really interested in Harvard’s crimson booklet.
By dinner, he was excited, sprouting out campus facts as his dad asked to pass the bowl of vegetables.
Rosita kicked her legs in her seat beside him, happily munching away on the roast beef.
“Dude, just. Shut up,” Dante said with his mouth full after Cisco went on a, self-admitting, spiel about Stanford’s aeronautics engineering program.
Cisco narrowed his eyes, defending himself. “I have to apply by November for early admissions. That's two months away. We're talking about my future here.”
His mom and dad shared a look, one Cisco couldn’t decipher. He put his fork down, sensing dread.
“What? I told you, my SAT scores are really high. Maybe not Harvard okay, but MIT, UPenn, I think I have a real shot.”
It went quiet, it was uncomfortable and Cisco felt nervous, like he was the butt of a big joke.
“What?”
“Get that Ivy League crap out of your head, we can’t afford it.”
His mother gasped, hitting his father’s arm.
Cisco looked to Dante, who had his glass paused halfway to his lips.
“What Papa means is we know you talk big plans with tu novia, but where will the money for that come from?”
The words were faint, Cisco feeling a rush in his ears as his mind began to race, trying to compute. "Mama, I don't understand.”
“Those schools sound very expensive, Cisco.”
This couldn’t be happening, he pushed his plate away, sick to his stomach.  “Two years ago you said you had money put away for me.”
“That was before Dante changed his mind about CCU music. And it was never going to be enough for what you’re talking about. We were already tight with Armando’s tuition.”
Dante coughed, nearly choking on the food, startled. “Mama,” he gaped, after a giant swallow of water. “¿Su dinero?”
“He is older, Cisco,” his dad replied, and it was condescending, felt cold like ice down Cisco’s back. “If you want a fancy college you’ll need a job, maybe two. You might have good grades for CC High, but for a full scholarship where everyone is smart? Be realistic, Mijo.”
Cisco’s eyes were stinging, blurring as the weight of their words washed over him, and he was so unprepared, so unbalanced to hear that news, it knocked him over, and now he felt like was going to drown.
"You don't think I'm good enough?"
"That's not what we're saying," his mother corrected, "But we do believe your aspirations are out of tune."
Out of tune. Giving all his college money away to his ungrateful brother, permitting him to Netflix in his room under the guise of studying composition, was out of tune.
He stood up abruptly, not able to stomach any more.
“You used my money on Dante? Dante? Who doesn’t even show up for school? Have I not been clear since I was twelve how much I wanted this?”
Rosita burst into tears at the volume of his voice, covering her ears. His mother ran to Rosita.
It wasn’t Rosita’s fault. It wasn’t. She was just a child. She was little, but somehow the way his mother ran to her and picked her up adoringly, soothing her whimpering was the last straw, twisting something in Cisco until it bent and snapped.
“You care for everyone in this house but me!”
“Francisco.”
“It’s true!” he cried, and maybe it wasn't, but his world was imploding, and this wasn't his fault, Cisco didn't do anything to deserve this.
He swiped at his eyes with the sleeve of his jean jacket, furious, “You never listen, you never care, you don’t know anything about what I want or am going through, even when I say it. It’s all about Dante or Rosita. You didn’t even care that I was chosen for Star Labs’ internship, how big of an accomplishment that was for me. Or that Caitlin’s papa died!”
“You were at Star Labs?” his father questioned, sliding his glasses up his nose. “Dante did you know this?”
His mother tore her gaze from his sister, stunned. “Dr. Snow?”
Even his parents were out of tune with each other. Out of tune, they said about him going to an Ivy, about becoming an engineer, he still processing it, outraged. Cisco wanted to throw up.
Dante spoke up. “Papa of course I knew he wouldn’t shut up about it. He was gone every day.”
Dante was defending him for once, probably guilty, and he should be, Cisco thought, but that wasn't enough.
He was on a roll, unable to stop yelling, “Armando got everything he wanted! Dante gets anything he asks for, no questions! A motorcycle, he goes and you're all oh, sure Dante, here you go, only pay half. Then he says, Haha surprise, I want to go to college after all, and so you go sure, let us deplete our youngest son's college funds!"
Even Rosita quieted, staring at Cisco.
"What?" she said, voice full of innocence.
His face crumpled, but he refused to break in front of them. "I worked so damn hard, and I get nothing?”
“It is not nothing,” his father scolded in Spanish. “CCU is a fine school, Francisco. You are just prejudiced. Caitlin is a fine girl, but her privilege has gone to your head.”
“That’s not true,” Cisco snapped back, switching languages smoothly. “This has nothing to do with Caitlin. Mama, tell him.”
She lowered her gaze, fussing again with Rosita’s plate, without replying.
His parents’ quietness was all the confirmation Cisco needed. A dark chuckle, more like a huff from a pushed out exhale escaped him, and he shook his head.
“Unbelievable,” he muttered under his breath, looking at the faces of his family. He didn’t even want to be here anymore.
“Well, since I got your attention,” he spat, “I was offered a placement at Star Labs for the Fall for after school. I need a parent to sign the contract with me.”
“¿Se paga?” Is it paid? Mama said.
After all that.
Cisco choked on his answer, already imagining what they were going to say. “No.”
“You’ll have to choose then, what you want more.”
Was this what it felt like? To see his entire future hanging by a thin, loose, unravelling thread? Cisco shouldn’t have to choose. Star Labs was his ticket out of here. Out of this mess, the one outstanding point on his application which would give him those scholarships, that admission.
But his parents didn't understand, and they won't.
And that's what was worse. It was not the lack of money, or that they gave it to Dante (even though that cut deep, and Cisco wasn't quite sure it was something he could ever forgive). He knew that they weren't wealthy, that they were four kids and still not even in a house. But they made it work for their children, set up this illusion, this fake fantasy land Cisco had been living in for years and watched him entangle himself deeply there, plant roots in it, and still never bothered to come clean and correct him.
They watched him grow up and fall in love with math and science--and Caitlin, and get his glowing letters from his teachers and still think the idea of him going away to one of the country's best schools was silly. Childish, like one of Rosita's make believe stories.
How could they see him, see what he's willing to sacrifice, how hard he'll work, has worked, and still be so confident that Cisco was wasting his time?
“I’m going to sleepover at Barry’s,” Cisco announced, too upset to look them in the eye. Too angry to wait and listen to their reply. To be given permission to leave.
They were way past granting him permission to do things anymore, in his books.
Dante tried to pull him back when he passed by, uttered his name, but Cisco pushed, shoving his brother out of his path with a hard glare, poisoned with fiery pain, daring him to say another word.
He didn't wait for the elevator of the building to make it to their floor, just ran down the spiralling steps, all at once, and fled.
~.~
Cisco called Caitlin twice but it went to voicemail. He banged his head against the steering wheel in the humid, sticky old car with the rusted paint and broken AC, keys still in the engine, motor running, stalled in the apartment parking lot, and cried loud ugly sobs.
~.~
Dr. Allen didn’t question why he had to double his pancake recipe in the morning, just ruffled Cisco’s hair and called him and Barry sluggers, and for that Cisco was grateful.
Cisco parted ways with Barry on the Allen's front steps, after he got pulled in for a hug.
"We'll look at options, okay? Jobs and stuff." Barry cracked a smile. "Maybe we can wait tables together."
"You'd do that for me?" Cisco, asked, pleasantly surprised.
Barry nodded. "I could use some extra cash, to take Iris out and stuff. You want to walk to her house with me?"
Cisco nodded to the Toyota. "Nah, I told Caitlin I'd pick her up this year now that I have the car. I'll see you in school."
~.~
Cisco sat in his driver's seat, tapping his fingers against the dashboard, still dreary, exhausted, and weighed down, but, hopeful to see the one person who would be sure to make him feel better.
Minutes clocked by and his hope turned to worry, and he wrestled with the idea of unbuckling his seatbelt to see what was wrong.
Because something was wrong. Caitlin was late. And she's never been late in all the years that he knew her.
She was late and so he was just as relieved as surprised when Dr. T knocked on his window, after walking briskly down her house's long driveway.
He rolled it down, frowning. “Is Caitlin sick?”
“She already left with her driver,” she informed. “She made it clear that she didn’t want to see you.”
It was like being dunked in cold water.
“What?”
“Get to school, Francisco.”
Cisco grabbed his phone in the glove compartment, about to call her, not above believing Carla Tannhauser pulling a fast one on him (she never did exactly like him, but this would've been cruel) when the text came through.
❤ Caitlin ❤ : We're breaking up.

2 part ask
From @midnyghtmadnes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This response is kinda long, so it’s hidden behind a read more lol.
As I said in the summary, I haven’t seen the movie. All of the summary stuff and info is from 2 people who’ve seen + the movie pamphlet. But I’m still interested in seeing it. I’m going to Japan in April and I’ll be seeing it as many times as I can if it’s still in theaters. My reasons for wanting to see it, however, are because of Cute Boys.
My attachment to Geass has nothing to do with Lelouch or the setting or the story or [whatever]. I have been 110% completely invested in this series ever since Schneizel turned around in the first opening of the first episode. I’m pretty weak to cute blonde dudes w/nice bangs. CLAMP designs are truly powerful. He appears in the movie in glasses and he looks pretty hot so uhhhh regardless of story, plot, etc things, the movie somehow has something for me. As an added bonus, there’s also this green haired pretty boy voiced by one of my favorite VAs. 👀👀👀
However, compared to the original TV anime, honestly I’m just rolling my eyes. “The Gate that CC uses is below the prison that Suzaku JUST SO HAPPENS to be held at”. Is there only one fucking prison in all of Zilkhstan? Then Chamna’s Geass is to rewind time by 6 hours when she dies. Uhm, so like, why can’t she just daisy chain that shit? Also, “Shirley used her status as a normal college student to take Lelouch’s corpse to France w/o being monitored” except accompanying her was Schneizel, who is the recently appointed #2 of the UFN and was probably already relatively famous?
Stuff like Lelouch and Nunnally’s relationship really makes me scratch my head as well. I get that they were trying to make a comparison between Chamna/Chalio and Lelouch/Nunnally - “Wow Chalio is completely dependent on Chamna but Nunnally can live without Lelouch“. Him leaving her doesn’t bother me - his plan in the TV show was pretty clearly to leave her side one day. It’s the speed and way that it happens in the movie that is seriously “wtf”. Like, your little sister watched you fucking die and held your hand as you died and witnessed you take your last breath and she was probably traumatized as fuck and you’re just bailing 5 seconds after she wakes up? Dude, Lelouch, can you maybe chill and wait at least a day or something?
And then, about world building and setting and such... The plot of the movie largely feels without consequence. No one talks about Zero Requiem. Not as in, “no one talks about how Emperor Lelouch was a big dick and then he died”, but like, “what was happened to the world since then” isn’t really expanded upon. We go from Kallen’s ending narration where she says, “Of course, there are still problems in the world, but people are working on fixing them”... to a 2 year time skip where Everything is Awesome except in Zilkhstan apparently.
I don’t even know what to assume happened off-screen: Did Kaguya, Nunnally, the Chinese Empress, and their presumably European friend make a 4 girl idol band that went to tour to different countries and got other countries to join the UFN? Did Schneizel, who now isn’t allowed to blow up the capitals of all first world countries, have to Do Things the Hard Way and in 2 fucking years he just fixed like 80% of everything?
One of the things Taniguchi has mentioned in Re;surrection interviews is about using the recap movies + Re;surrection universe as a jumping off point for new Geass. To be completely honest, I am kind of “meh” about that whole idea.
Fictional stories typically revolve around a conflict. Sometimes it’s an internal character conflict which requires the characters to grow, sometimes it’s a conflict that involves the whole world. Every single Geass spinoff has been about Some Form of Conflict. The one that seems to have been adopted into canon the most is Oz the Reflection, which is a story told parallel to the main conflict of Lelouch of the Rebellion.
The elements of Geass that people like have become very obvious over the years: “Give us Lelouch dicking people and waving his hands fabulously and pressing a single button to blow up All the Ground.” Every single fucking Geass spinoff has a Lelouch clone (Dash in Renya) or just Literally Lelouch (Akito) and I think it’s annoying.
So, how would they even make something else in this setting? The world becomes Even More Awesome because Papa Eyebrows has Zilkhstan joining the UFN at the end of the movie. Having more made up countries who are not part of the UFN presenting a challenge(?) for our heroes just to become friends with everyone at the end would be the same shit repeated again.
I feel like a, “10,000 years in the future” setting would largely be a repeat as well: “Oh no, peace was destroyed over time, let’s fight until the world is at peace again”.
Meanwhile, Lelouch. Well, let’s see: Lelouch’s internal conflicts with his parents have looooooooong been resolved. He has removed himself from the world stage and leaves the Zero identity in Suzaku’s hands. @touchreceptors noted that even his personality seems completely different in the movie. Lelouch hints about him and CC going off to “find the fragments of Geass” at the end of the movie. (This is potentially a reference to the web series which is also called “Fragments”, but who knows.)
And that’s like... the biggest expanded universe hook we have? What are they gonna do - show Lelouch -- who’s personality got neutered since he got revived -- and CC -- who’s personality got rewritten in the recap movies to be a 1 dimensional object orbiting around Lelouch -- traveling somehow w/o Lelouch being recognized and finding ~Fragments of the Geass~ while occasionally running into old characters? I would absolutely still watch that hoping for the occasional Schneizel cameo but I wouldn’t be thrilled about it.
Personally, if I were in charge of making a new Geass thing, I would skip this stupid Plot Extension with the Geass fragments and just make Code Geass: Fumoffu or Code Geass: Carnival Phantasm...

Heart and Brew Coffeehouse (x)
... Despite the upcoming finals and the extravagant workload on his back, B/N makes an attempt to get it all done in a long night at the Heart and Brew Coffeehouse, where his best friend (and oblivious crush) Y/N works...
Genre: slow-build fluff
Words: 4.5k this got kinda long
A/N: I WROTE THIS WITH MY BEST FRIEND because I got block (which is why it took so long) but she saved it and she’s great, I love her. Shoutout to Merci. Also, Y/N sounds so against all them espresso shots, but I personally down a 10 ristretto-shot honey latte before I start cramming for any test, so... #teamcoffeebuzz ‘knaw mean?
Tumblr media
(cc)
Despite the watercolor sunset that glosses the tables, and the pink-orange sunlight that soaks in from the windows, the coffeehouse is still filled with people. Though the rush has long passed with the coming of the evening, students and teachers stay hunched over study sheets, essays, and paperwork, populating the tables of the lobby. A calm hum of whispers can be found underneath sounds of espresso machines and steaming milk, mixing with the studious sense of anticipation.
That calm is brought to an abrupt halt, stopping everything in your track when an incredulous request gets your attention at the register.
“Wait B/N, you said how many espresso shots?” You say, not even attempting to write down this order in case you heard wrong.
Your question is met with a blank stare. “Eight.”
You blink at him over and over, as if he were asking for something ridiculous. And he is; it’s nearly seven o’clock in the evening, why does he need that much of a caffeine buzz?
“I want eight, Y/N.”
Good thing you and him are best friends, or you’d probably get into trouble for questioning his order so loudly.
“Are you looking for a heart attack?” Your brow wrinkles the middle of your forehead, showcasing the confusion you have for this boy. “That’s a lot of caffeine, not to mention a lot of… bitter” your nose scrunches up, kind of disgusted at the power that many shots could have.
He just just rolls his eyes, an audible scoff shot your way under the pretense of a chuckle. “ Oh whatever, I’ll be fine. I get this all the time, I’m surprised you’ve never noticed.”
You shoot him the look™ and turn to your coworker, conveniently making drinks right beside you.
“Does he really, though?” you ask your coworker, pleading for some kind of disagreement out of your concern for B/N’s heart rate.
“He really does...”
“See?” B/N exclaims, sharing a playful nod with the barista at your side.
You glare at him, still not convinced it’s healthy to have so much caffeine this late, or that it’ll taste all that good. He looks at you for a long moment, watching as your face scrunches up.
How cute. He smiles. “Just let me buy my drink Y/N, you got me holding up the line.”
There’s only two people behind him, and they look like they’re still trying to select their study refreshments, but you won’t mention it; it’s bad enough you’re arguing with B/N. And, if your manager sees you holding him up anymore you’ll probably get into trouble.
Begrudgingly, you ring up his order. Iced americano, eight espresso shots (whatta mad man), with grapefruit and and a splash of coconut milk.
Before he walks off to the end of the coffee bar where his otherworldly caffeinated drink will greet his buzz-deprived circulation system, he gets your attention once more.
“When do you get off, again?” B/N slips his change into the tip jar while you check your watch. He’ll always tip the coffeehouse, even if you do interrogate him slightly. Only when you’re here though.
“In like, half an hour.” You’ve practically been here all afternoon, and the line out the door from earlier had you practically done for the whole day. Maybe you were the one who needed eight shots of espresso.
He nods, taking a quick note how your voice changes pitch with a friendly “Hi, welcome in!” as you greet the next customer. A smile sneaks along his lips as he goes to wait for his drink. Adorable.
--------
You first met B/N in your morning physics class.
Turns out, the only open chair left in the classroom was next to him, so you had no choice but to set down your cup of coffee on the table before sitting beside his sleeping(?) figure.
“That coffee smells really good”  he whispered to you, lifting his head from the desk and looking tired as ever. One look at him, he needed it more than you did.
“If you don't mind me asking, where’d you get it? I’m new here, and I don’t know any coffee places nearby.” He took a moment to ruffle his (obvious) bed head. “I should really find one if I have to do physics this early.”
You heard his chuckle the first time then. It’s got an odd ring to it, but it’s deep and very...attractive. It sounded like a laugh from a moviestar, handsome and boyish with the grogginess of 8am.
He definitely got your attention then. He was new to town, coming to school from out-of-state.  You had actually been the first person he talked to since he moved in. That is, except for the bus driver.
“Oh, If you’re looking for coffee, I actually work at the coffeehouse down the road. Heart and Brew? It’s practically the study hub for this school if you ever find yourself there.” You found his smile to be warm, even if he did look like he just woke up.
“Really? Would you mind… maybe showing me?” He blushes a little, realizing he didn't mean to sound so flirty. “S-Since you work there. I mean, if you don't have anything to do after this.”
One thing you always note him on, is that he’s bold. That first day he met you, it was like he had the confidence to ask you out despite his perfectly-tousled bed-head and cotton long-sleeve.
“Yeah, I’m free. I’ll take you” You nodded, trying to take him in as platonically as possible. You didn't wanna get your hopes up if he was just trying to learn his way around town, but he looked so... huggable. Seeing him every morning for the next semester makes 8am physics a bit more appealing. “I’m Y/N by the way.”
He opened his notebook as the professor started handing out class papers. Smiling at you, he reaches, asking for your hand. “Nice to meet you, I’m B/N”.
Later, over shared jokes and a quick look over the syllabus, you two became inseparable. With two classes paired together, and his open love to mess with you, becoming friends was easy. You’re still not sure if that first coffee together was a date or not, but you two became best friends, bonding over Newton’s Laws of Motion and Chemistry.
---------
B/N sits comfortably in his booth, laptop on one side and a slew of papers on the other. His iced americano may practically be finished, but his homework? Nowhere near.
“Damn, B/N. What do you still have left to do?” You, off the clock and out of your apron, slide into the seat across from B/N.
The wholesomely comforting aroma of freshly ground coffee beans finds it way from your clothes to B/N’s senses, awakening the parts of his heart that espresso had yet to reach. He drinks it in as your unspoken introduction.
“Well, I have a science history project, that physics worksheet, an astronomy essay, and our lab write up”. He lists a few more things, noticing as you release your hair from it’s classic updo. It falls softly across your face, causing B/N’s fingers to tingle with the urge to tuck it behind your ear. And he could if he leaned forward a bit further. The top of your collarbone is a bit exposed when you start to rummage through your bag, letting him only innocently imagine the softness of the skin there. The lighting above the table does wonders for you, by the way.
“Geez, B/N.” You say. He’s taking a few more higher-level classes than you, so your load was nowhere near as heavy. But still... you finished all your classwork days ago, while he’s still got assignments due. “Is all this due before finals?”
“Unfortunately.” He sighs, finally looking away from you to run a hand through his hair. His tresses look just as fluffy and perfectly messy as they had the first morning you met him. That was months ago, yet you still see him the same: effortlessly handsome.
“B/N… you know finals are in… two days, right?’ You reach your hand out to land atop of his as if you were bearing bad news.
“Yes,” he laughs, “I know”.
He tries not to focus too hard on the warmth of your hand that rests atop his; he forces himself not to think about how softly your thumb is caressing underneath his palm. His chest suddenly feels warm. So soft and innocent a gesture, yet it exploded fireworks withing him. Don’t think about it.
“I may have… procrastinated a bit…”
You suddenly squeeze that hand you were holding so dearly, making him jump slightly. “What the heck, B/N! You have to get these done before tomorrow night, then!?” You give him the furrowed look™ for the second time tonight.
“Ugh, I KNOW.”
“If you plan to participate in the movie binge tonight, you gotta get all that” you release his hand to dramatically gesture to his mini pile of notes and readings, “done tonight.”
“Yeah, and if you don’t want to binge movies alone, you’ll help me finish these.”
He knows that he’s got you there, because you both know movie night isn’t fun without your best friend. He also knows that you really don't like doing anything alone. That’s why he even came during your shift tonight, because you were working after sunset and ‘wanted someone to walk home with’.
He is one for deals, and the deal was that he agreed to walk home with you as long as you would sit with him while he finished up some work.
...You didn't think he had so much to do though, sheesh.
“B/N, you’ve only got five hours left to get this stuff done before the coffeehouse closes.”
There’s a pause. He’s trying not to get too panicked, looking down at his hefty packet of worksheets and readings.
“Okay Y/N, bet.” He leans forward on his elbows, proposing what sounds like another deal to you. “If you help me, five hours is NOTHING. I got this.”
Ah, there’s the bold B/N you like so much. Except he was probably trying to convince himself more than you.
“What do you need me to help with first?” You reach over the table and grab hold of B/N’s hoodie that was laying on the table. The coffeehouse was relatively cold once you’re away from the espresso machine and steam station.
He just nods, watching you slip the fluffy large maroon thing over your head. It practically drowns you, since it’s even too big for him. That looks nice on you, he thinks, keeping the adorable vision at the top of his head and close in his heart.
“Um, can you just review this? Make sure my formulas are correct on this worksheet.” He hands you his physics papers. “And try to not be distracting this time? I’m finishing the lab report.” He takes a sip of what’s left of his iced americano.
You noticed right away that his hands were shaking, probably because of the overload of caffeine.
“Try not to be distracting, huh?” You chuckle, knowing that there’s been multiple study sessions where you’ve run him off course and now he’s calling you out.
“Yes,” he chuckles, and you feel the same warmth in your chest everytime he laughs. “My sweater looks good on you by the way.”
Your cheeks get red and you feel noticeably warmer now.
“Oh um… thanks.” You’ve worn his hoodie multiple times and he usually scolded you for not bringing your own, but a compliment? Whoa. Get him caffeine more often, he’s the one being distracting.
“You should’ve brought your own though, the temperature is falling.” Nevermind, there’s the scolding.
“The start of winter is coming soon. Days are getting shorter. When is the solstice again? Isn’t that the day of the light festival?”
“No, it’s in late December, I think? Or maybe-” He catches himself mid-sentence, “See! This is what I mean. I need to focus on this lab report, Y/N.”
You laugh at his antics. “You wanted my help, so there’s definitely no way you can get everything done in 5 hours”.
“Or you can stop teasing me and just help. ‘Cause If I don’t get this done, you’re on a very lonesome one-person movie binge tonight.”
“Hmph. Why though? What’s in it for me? I mean, besides your pleasant company.”
B/N glances up from his lab report for the third time in forty seconds. His fingers tapped against the grain of the table, his eyes soft though his mind hyperactive and calculating.
“Fine, if I don’t get everything done, you’ll have to kiss me.”
“Huh?” Where did that come from?
“Yep. SO we either get this done, or things will get hella weird.”
Caffeine does weird things for sure. He’s bold like espresso alright, but this was so sudden. You were at a loss for a witty retort.
“You’re the one that’s hella weird...”
His responses were getting quicker, and his knee bobbing up and down started to shake the table a bit.
“Yeah, so look over the worksheet please?”
“...Can we bet like lunch or something instead?” You weren’t gonna subject yourself to a caffeine-formulated bet.
“What, do you want to binge scary movies all alone?” He looked up from his papers, turning on the bold part of him again. “Or is it that you don’t wanna kiss me just yet?”
Yet? That cheeky bastard.
That scrunch of your nose assured him that you agreed. No answer would be a correct answer in your case, but you knew truthfully what you would choose.
“Here.” He passed another worksheet your way, shuffling the leftover stack in his hands. “Would you mind getting me another americano, too?”
Your head shot up real quick. “What? No! You’re already buzzed enough, over here making wild bets.” You notice the papers practically trembling in his hands. “Trust me, you don’t need anymore caffeine than you already have in your system.”
He pouts, nudging your foot beneath the large mahogany table. His hand brushes the top of the table, casting a shadow over the layout of homework he has left.
“Look at everything I have left to do, Y/N. It helps me study and not fall asleep.”
You thought about how else to deny him, because there is no way any of that is healthy, but you decided to only get him two shots in the americano. Water him down, let his mind clear.
He still holds your gaze, watching you look for another excuse. But you fall short in this staring contest, and his eyes crinkle with his laugh. With a sigh, you groan and roll your eyes at him, sliding out of the booth to get you both some coffee.
---------
Once you came back with your coffees (his having a significantly lesser amount of espresso), you both returned to your frantic work over the stacks of papers. Few jokes and teases were thrown at one another, coffee was sipped and refilled again, and eyes traversed over many, many lines of words and numbers while time ticked away.
And B/N still couldn’t help but watch as you help him with his homework.
The way your eyes squint as you work on some math to check over his formulas, or the way your forehead wrinkles and how your eyebrows shoot up when you read over his paper and find some horrible grammar mistakes. And when you bit your lip trying to comprehend something on the worksheets... ooh you’re just so adorable.
Sighing, you lift your head from the endless scrawls on the paper and raise your arms above your head in a long stretch of your body.
“You okay there, Y/N?” B/N said as you shook your head to wake yourself up, tresses of hair falling around your face. Just perfect.
“What time is it?”
“It’s almost closing time,” your coworker said next to you. They were cleaning off all the tables and counters, indicating how late it was getting. “You’ve been here a while”.
Looking at your phone, the time read 11:01 p.m. -- one hour left before Heart and Brew closed.
“You still gonna try to help me finish the last few papers?”
You roll your eyes at B/N and take a glance at the work that you had already completed. You did pretty well, you just need to complete two or three more worksheets.
Then you look over to B/N...
You aren’t sure if he pulled out more work to do from thin air, if he was slow to work, or if he just sat there the entire time doing nothing. Maybe it’s a combination of the three, 'cause he still had a considerable amount of papers to complete before he could consider himself finished.
“What the hell have you been doing this entire time, B/N?!”
“Wha- I… I was distracted!”
“By what? Do I have to take your phone away like your mom?”
“No, I was being distracted by you! It’s your fault!”
“But I wasn’t even doing anything to you except your homework!”
“Yeah you were! You were just sitting there...looking cute and shit.” His eyes avert from your own to the stack of papers in his hands.
As B/N trails off in his accusation, your face blossoms into a soft rose petal pink and your fingers clench around the ends of the long sleeves enveloping your arms. You furrow your eyebrows, sticking your tongue out at him to show how upset you are with his continuous procrastination... and flustering excuse.
“See! You’re distracting me now. How dare you.” The playful glow returns to the apples of his cheeks, and he almost forgets how obvious his flirting is.
“Oh, shut up and do your work.”
With a sly grin knowing he’s gotten on your uwus, B/N spins his pencil between his fingers. With a content sigh, he pulls himself to focus his eyes on the task at hand. You huff and follow suit, returning to the papers on the table.
Once you finish the few sheets you have left over, you drop your pencil onto the table and cross your arms, dramtically slumping further into the booth.
“Done. I’m not helping you anymore.”
“Fine, then be alone for your movie marathon.”
“Hell, after this, I’ll be perfectly fine. You, on the other hand, need to learn how to do your work on time.”
“Yeah, yeah. Lesson learned.”
“No you haven’t.”
“You know it.”
Seriously, how much work did these advanced courses give? Or was he just this bad at managing his time? And it’s not like you can help him with the rest of it either, you don’t have these classes.
You check your phone for the time, hearing your coworker putting away the chairs in the distance. Forty minutes have passed since you last looked; you guys really should get going.
“Well, you lost the bet, B/N. Pack up your stuff and let’s go.”
“Not yet! The shop hasn’t closed yet!”
“Just let them go home,” you whisper, pointing your thumb to your coworker who was now behind the pastry counter. ‘I mean, if you still want that damn kiss…’ you think, hoping he doesn’t figure out that he’s won that part.
B/N rolls his eyes and lazily lolls his head to look at the papers he has left to do. He looks so cute when he pouts.
You gather up the papers and tap them on the table, straightening them out and setting them down neatly in front of B/N. In a silent response, he takes the stack you offer and places it on top of his completed sheets.
Damn, didn;t get eveything done. He thinks. Then it registers in his head and he smiles a bit.
With a smile, he lifts his backpack onto the table, zipping it up all the way and patting it for good measure.
You clean your stuff up as well, the pencil, the eraser, and your phone all going into your small bag accordingly. It’s as if you’re still working when you pick up your empty cup, taking B/N’s as well to the trash and dumping them.
B/N stands up fully and straps on his backpack, waiting for you to join him as he strides toward the door. When he turns to see you catch up to him in his oversized hoodie, a smile lightly graces his face.
The garment practically swallows you whole; sleeves reaching past your palms, the torso going past your own and treading down to your hips. You look so good in his hoodie.
“Ready?” you ask, seeing his dazed expression.
He lightly shook his head, trying yet again to get you out of it. “Yeah, let’s go.”
Stepping into the cool autumn night, you flinch from the cold air that sweeps instantly around you, pulling yourself tighter into B/N’s hoodie. However, this didn’t escape B/N’s attention. He pulled his eyes away from your form and faced forward, hands in his pockets.
“Man, I just can’t believe we didn’t finish in time.” [Lies, he totally believes it, he made sure it happened.]
“You mean you didn’t finish in time. And you’re not that broken up about it because you just wanna kiss me.” You’re just as quick on your toes.
“Pfft, not broken up about it? Finals are in two days, Y/N.” He conveniently skips over the second part of your accusation. But yeah, ‘losing’ the bet is on his mind too.
“Whatever,” you sigh.
The conversation fades after that, the sounds of walking and rustling trees filling its place.
“So are you going to continue with that movie marathon without me?” he asks after a block or two slinks pass.
“After doing all your homework for you, I’m too exhausted to have a movie marathon. My brain is fried and I just want to go to bed now.”
“I mean… I could join you~”
“Shut up, B/N,” you laugh, nudging him with your elbow.
“But I could keep you warm!”
“Yeah, while you have the lamp on doing the rest of your homework? HAH I don’t think so.”
“...I don’t hear a ‘no’.”
You exasperatedly roll your eyes and keep walking. It’s not like you wouldn’t mind, but you refuse to give into him so easily. It’s not fun to give him what he wants immediately, ‘knaw mean?
The atmospheric melody returns once more as the walk to your home becomes shorter and shorter. The wind blows occasionally, making you shiver underneath the comfort of B/N’s hoodie. Absentmindedly, your face snuggles deeper into it, catching a full whiff of B/N’s smell: spearmint and cedar cologne. Like a calm walk through the woods, or like an aromatic sunrise. He bodies that well, you think.
Hopping up the steps of your home, you unlock the front door and retreat inside. B/N respectfully stands at the door, waiting for you to pop your head back out and tell him good night. And just as he anticipates, you do.
“Have a good night B/N. Walk safely.”
“You, too Y/N. And thanks for the help, by the way.”
“I would say ‘no problem’ but it interfered with our movie marathon and now I’m sad and tired.”
“Oh, shush and go to bed already, we can do it tomorrow night.”
You chuckle, gifting his ears one of the most pleasant sounds he’s ever heard (besides your wild out-loud laughter).
“But I’ll be collecting on my bet though, don’t think I forgot.” Dramatically, you roll your eyes at him, smiling at the sound of his chuckle. Inside though, he is a little disappointed he hadn't gotten to it sooner.
You bid him a good night and close the door, cutting you both off, alone with your thoughts in the semi-awkward atmosphere left between you two.
With the light of the moon high above him and the wind caressing his nape softly, B/N stares at your door for another moment.
The evening’s events cycle like a slideshow in his head; the image of you working behind the counter when you were still on the clock, then clips of you leaning over papers whilst reading and scribbling. That time when you released your hair from its binds and how your locks fell around your peaceful face. You in his sweater.
He’s forgotten his sweater.
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening grabs his attention, and he looks back up your steps to see your figure greet him once more, backlit by a warm yellow light as if you were a goddess stepping out of her home.
He glances up at you expectedly, thinking you have something left to say.
“Hm? Y/N, I thought you were going to bed.”
With a sigh, you walk carefully down the steps. “I will, eventually.” You get closer, getting B/N to think you’re pulling him into another goodnight hug.
“Then what are you-”
He stops as you take hold of his shirt collar and bring him down to eye level, looking him dead in the eye. He was surprised for sure, since this time you were the bold one. Amazing, the things late night coffee can do.
You’re close enough to whisper into his lips, noses barely touching.
“But I can’t sleep knowing I have a debt to pay, now can I?” You ask, smirking as it registers in B/N’s head. He smiles too, because he’s getting what he wanted.
Ever so softly, you lean forward. Your lips lightly meet his, like feathers landing on the ground after delicately gliding through the air. It’s innocent, yet long-lasting. He smiles into your lips as a gust of wind blows around you. He pushes a little further, letting his hands find home on the hem of his own sweater.
The soft sweater paws that held his collar slowly retreat with a teasing scroll down his chest. He takes a second to open his again as you pull away from the consolation kiss. Once they open, he watches as you slip off his hoodie in the cool breeze. He would be thinking about how effortlessly nice you look, but his whole being is floating, at the moment.
Though a warm blush decorates your face, you still have the courage to tease him a little more.
“Thanks for walking me home B/N, but next time, try not to lose a bet you know you aren’t ready for.”
And just like you had appeared, you disappear just as fast. B/N stares at your closed door in disbelief, his eyes wide and mouth slightly gaping in awe.
That just happened.
He looks down at his hands, seeing that you placed his hoodie in his open arms. With a slight laugh, his fingers tighten around the cloth, reminding himself of how cute you look in it. He might just let you keep it next time.
And with that thought warming his cheeks and a smile growing on his lips, he backs away from your door.
There are many things he thinks about on his walk home:
He has so much homework left to do
You kissed him, and he feels hella fantastic, not hella weird
He’s starting to get a headache from his caffeine intake tonight
He can’t wait to see you tomorrow morning during physics.
An all-nighter was worth it if he could lose a bet like this against you again...
Post Note: Me first trying the drink in this fic *per my journal lmao*: “It’s actually quite good because you get the welcoming (yet slightly overpowering) bitterness of the espresso, but it’s fantastically mellowed out by the coconut milk and met with a sweet after-tang of the grapefruit citrus. I’ll be up for the next few hours, but I’d definitely get this again. *finishes the pre-presentation course notes for the upcoming week* IT WORKS GUYS, I SWEAR” lmao YES I actually drank this 8-shot americano. Plz appreciate the struggle, good luck on midterms!
