Okay. Decided to treat this like the kids getting texted this. Why? Because I thought it'd be fun.

Hatano -"? bird? " -"am i stupid..." (two minutes later) -"BIRDS ARE ANIMALS" -"right? are you messing around?" (she's kinda unintentionally blunt, but she's having so much fun with this)

Higa -"You arent that stupid." -*if pushed to answer* -"Birds and animals are the same thing, birds are just a more specific category. Unless youre thinking of something more specific, like mammals- and youre trying to reference something like the classification of bats. Is that enough of an answer?" (i think he's going to forever be confused as to why you're texting him in general)

Inori -"birds" -"bc they can get bird flu" -if you question this reasoning -"oh !! look who's shsl biologist now" (sent her first message, then thought she should maybe elaborate. recognized it as a joke, but won't continue the bit endlessly; will start to give you shit for it pretty fast. short answers because she's busy)

(He’s only sending that third message if you don’t reply immediately- give his brain time to wander)

Silence if she’s only spoken to you a few times/not really one on one)

Or, more likely, you’re messing with her- but she’d feel bad if she suggested that, and you were injured or something.

I literally just got my SHSL box split stuff yesterday after waiting over a year. They stuffed 20 things into on package and called it a day. I know they're dealing with mad depression and that's no excuse but have hope!

wow okay. i suppose im nitpick anon now, and people did not like my opinion on talents lol. i know the post hasnt marinated too long but im only here again to expand on my opinion because commenters had some pretty snarky replies in reference to me saying talents should be. productive. im sorry that all of you felt i was trying to make a big deal when i really wasnt intending to. i just dont think they make for very compelling skills, let alone something worthy of a shsl/ultimate.

also i never claimed that canon dr never pulled talents like that, because they very much did and suprise, i dont think those are great either. no, i dont think robot is a talent because thats more so a state of being. i disagree with the point of princess not being a talent because while it is a status, running a country is pretty productive and takes skill if you ask me (if done right lol). my criticism was more against talents like being a neet. or being a zombie. or something that is not a talent. just because canon dr makes some lackluster 'talents' doesnt mean that fanworks shouldnt strive to be better.

not that it matters too greatly, its all fan work at the end of the day. hope this explains my stance a little better though lol.

alright SO!!!!!! this list is going to be decided based on how likely they are to survive in an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic scenario IGNORING the possibility of them becoming remnants................ i reckon despair still definitely has a say in all of this just because of the nature of this catastrophe but i will try avoid them becoming "remnant-like"/evil if that makes sense !!!!!! ALSO this is ignoring the possibility of them getting like. nuked or smth

FROM MOST TO LEAST LIKELY TO SURVIVE!!!

• sae: knows how to survive off of very little, lives in a (mostly-- her afi is still alive and kicking probably!!!!!!) secluded fishing shack off of the coast of iceland where the nearest town is like a forty minute drive. she is (as her ultimate would suggest lol) an extremely skilled fisherman and sailor, so should it REALLY come down to it she could man a solo ship into the ocean for a few weeks and be totally fine. not only that but she is remarkably well adjusted to this life already and will have little difficulty adjusting should a catastrophic event hit the majority of the population. sae is fine with seclusion, very physically strong in the rare chance somebody does attack her in person, knows how to live off of the ocean, and lives far away from heavily populated areas. honestly disregarding the loneliness that will definitely start creeping in on her and having to deal with people dying all across the world she will be so fine gfjhkdghksfhfdgdfjk. she would be more than happy to keep her and her afi safe, and maybe the occasional wandering survivor should they approach with good intentions

• naomi: sae is the outlier in that i know for a fact she would be extremely likely to survive, but EVERYBODY ELSE on this list has a much higher percentage of getting themselves killed LMFAO. that being said, naomi has been a bit of a survivalist for most of her life and is definitely scrappy enough to make her way around. now when i say "survivalist" i don't mean she's like. a hunter or knows much about outdoor living, which is definitely a disadvantage for her, but she's survived periods of time with limited/no food or shelter. obviously this wasnt an apocalyptic scenario but she could definitely apply some of her knowledge she's gained from that time!!! it would be hard to catch her, so if she were to get herself killed it would probably be because she seriously fucked up somewhere along the line or she died of hunger/freezing. AND ALSO IMPORTANTLY naomi is not the most headstrong character and despair is certainly just as much of a threat to her as other people are. paranoia could be helpful in some cases in keeping her safe but it will really end up damaging her in the end, not to mention other people if they ever manage to run into her. likely wouldn't hang out in a group (but honestly i could see it in an au that is nicer to her lol. a group of like four or five that takes her in and tells her to chill the hell out)

• erin: NOW I KNOW SHE SEEMS REALLY HIGH UP ON THIS LIST so let me start off by saying a few things. number one the jump in survival rate has SERIOUSLY plummeted from naomi to erin, like they are NOT in the same realm of conceivably surviving LMFAOO. number two while in any normal apocalyptic scenario erin would suffer, i can really really clearly see one scenario where she ends up being ok. like in a normal scenario she would really have to toughen up and drop the pippy act immediately (which, if push came to shove, she could), and while she isn't extremely strong or knowledgable about survival she is very ruthless. despair would hit her like a TRUCK at first, mostly because her entire life was dedicated to that kids show of hers that is now gone forever along with most of its audience, but once she gets over that (IF she does) she would absolutely grow a backbone and help out. does that mean she survives??? not necessarily. but in the event she does end up getting over the despair she would likely join a group of some kind and help out in any way that she can. ALSO. I KNOW THIS IS KINDA CHEATING SINCE TECHNICALLY THE EVENTS OF ULTRA DESPAIR GIRLS IS "AFTER" THE TRAGEDY. but if we are considering those events then erins survival rate just shot wayyyy up because i can really see the kids of towa city taking a liking to her due to her children's show and just kidnapping her as a second servant LMFAOOOO. some kinda jester even. and ohhhh my god she would get so fed up with nagito. she survived a whole tragedy and reshaped her entire personality only for THIS asshole to give her grief good fucking lord

• ryobe: ryobe is a lot more cunning than he first seems, and while he knows nothing about survival or fighting (should it come down to it which it likely will), he could reasonably work his way up in a group of survivors. while his refusal to relent his goofy personality in such an upsetting situation would definitely earn him quite a few enemies, it probably DOES help him to get through a lot of the trauma in general. unfortunately it is also very likely his downfall as well. he doesnt have this "whole world gets ripped out from under him" moment like erin does and when he finally does realise he needs to get a bit of a grip it is wayyyyy too late. he would really piss off a lot of important people and in an apocalyptic scenario where everybody is extremely paranoid you need to be able to resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner. and the second he gets kicked out of a group (if he even MADE IT to one in the first place) its OVER. he can not survive on his own, both mentally and physically

• mika: she's got more of a grip on reality than ryobe does but she doesn't have any particular skills that will cause her to excel in this scenario. can't fight, not particularly charismatic, not particularly cunning. it really all comes down to luck and she famously does not have a great track record with this

• yoshito: a huge softie with, unfortunately, zero relevant skills. he either goes mad or dies before he gets the chance to. i cant see a scenario where he ever fights back like a few of his classmates with similar strength would, he isn't very fast, and he is not equipped to handle loneliness. the only thing i could possibly think of that he could use is his knowledge of certain shelters and food banks, but ALL of them are likely to get targeted in an apocalypse like this so he's pretty shit out of luck in general lol. he'd stay hopeful for as long as he possibly can, but i can't really see him making it super far. best case scenario he becomes a future foundation member

• rie: nothing in her life had prepared her for this and i really don't think she would make it. while she would probably have a "whole world gets ripped from under her" moment like erin did she would not adapt quickly and even if she did push through she is not nearly as ruthless or determined to survive. physically weak, probably losing her mind a bit and letting that charismatic side of her slip, and has no clue how to find food or shelter. not to mention the lifestyle adjustment would also be extremely jarring for her as well, even if she is probably more adjusted to living on very little than most would expect of her. overall just cant really see it, in a beautiful world where everything goes right for her she might be able to pull herself out of trouble by the skin of her teeth

General Tags: Audible Emotion is my music tag, because I have said for almost four decades that music is what emotions sound like.

So Let It Be Written is my positivity tag, because gdi we need this shit and it felt right to use that even if some of the positive stuff in there isn't actually written or a wish, it's just positive, feel-good shit.

Ship Tags: Gunblade, because at one point I think that was the actual ship name for them. Yes I was a Homestuck. No I am not ashamed of this fact. The fandom was a trash fire but the story was damn fucking good.

I Know, because that is one of the rawest, most emotional replies you could give in that context to someone confessing their love and to this day I adore the fact that that was Harrison's idea to say rather than have Han tell Leia he loves her too. Also it just defines their entire relationship.

Shadowed Flame, because Hughes is Roy's shadow and also it sounds damned poetic, fight me.

Mirrors of Wisdom because I stole it from a friend after 'And they were roommates' got old XD And because they are. Haitham himself admits that Kaveh is his perfect mirror [though naturally never to Kaveh's face XD]

Fox and Hound because well -gestures at them- Tighnari is a fox, Cyno is Anubis-coded and his constellation is 'Lupus Aureus' which translates roughly to 'Golden Wolf', I mean come on.

Raining Fire because of Ayato's Burst making it rain in an AOE effect and Thoma being a Pyro user. Also it sounds pretty and it's a very evocative phrase.

Hurricane because I mean have you met them? Anemo plus Hydro with Electro = Storm.

Disarm because of an old Wolfwood AMV set to the song of the same name by the Smashing Pumpkins and, honestly? The more I see of the pair the more that song fucking fits them and it hurts.

Persona Non Grata because I think I'm funny. It's also a dig at Akechi that my Joker would 100% use.

Cross-stitch because that's the actual ship name for them and it's still funny almost ten years later.

Character Tags: Stay Frosty because it just sounds like something Kaeya would say, the smartass.

Hydro Bastard Man because that's what I've been calling Tartaglia for ages and it amuses me.

Anemo Twerp because he's a fucking twerp. Also he uses Anemo, but mostly he's a fucking twerp XD

Cousin Keiji because my personal P5 Protag is named Keiji, and my sibling's friendgroup has this thing where all their Protags are related [generally various iterations of sibling-hood] so I just declared mine to be a cousin since his last name is Kyouraku rather than either canonical one. Thus, Cousin Keiji.

Wisteria Warrior because one of the kanji in Saitou's name translates to 'Wisteria', and I think it suits Hakuouki!Saitou.

Eyes of Sky because have you seen Gojou Satoru's eyes? They are unfair to the extreme. Also I couldn't think of anything better.

SHSL Average Joe because have you met Hinata Hajime? He's so mediocre he'd get an Honorable Mention at a mediocrity competition. And he knows it.

“Yuno you’re just making him nervous… oh whatever… Naegi huh? It’s hard to believe I’m similar in anyway to someone who went to Hope’s Peak. I suppose he was the SHSL bad luck or something.” Yuki joked with a frown. He figured Chopper had an exaggerated since of him.

i think the narration here is actually from naegi's perspective; it's definitely not hinata, and the melodramatic phrasing is pretty distinctive. anyway, the narration says this absurd nonsense incident is about to wrap up, and remarks on how small this entire incident has been compared to the worst most despair-inducing event in the history of mankind. there isn't even a name for this incident (uh yes there is, it's called super danganronpa 2 goodbye despair academy 🙄) and the world at large isn't even going to know that this happened. at least, not as long as the group remains here.

the dr1 trio is standing on the docks on the real jabberwock island, looking out at the ship they're about to board. the preparations for their departure are finished and kirigiri and naegi both seem ready to head out. but togami has more questions. he asks if the sdr2 survivors are really going to be okay. didn't they just turn back into shsl despair? naegi seems a little uncertain when replying, but he says he doesn't think so. if they had, why would they have elected to stay on the island? both kirigiri and naegi figure that they want to remain behind to help their friends, the "dead" people, who i guess are still in a VR-induced "sleep" with their fates uncertain. kirigiri points out that just wanting to help is proof that they've changed, but says the reality is that the odds of everybody waking up are close to zero. naegi says that's not a problem because no matter how bad the odds are, they're still trying. togami says it'd take a miracle, and naegi says he thinks they'll be able to achieve it anyway. they've accepted both hope and despair and resolved not to give up. for people like that, maybe miracles are inevitable. (and also there's a guy here whose luck basically guarantees that if an outcome is extremely unlikely, it'll happen to him. no one brings that up but i'm gonna.) both togami and kirigiri are like Dude you are so naïve and you are like a little baby (affectionate). happy to see the throuple is doing well.

they talk about how they are going to be in big huge trouble if the rest of the future foundation finds out about this. since the other two let naegi take the lead on all this, they ask him what his plan is. he doesn't have one. kirigiri's like "ok good luck coming up with something bc i'm not going to help you that much." naegi protests but togami tells him he should be glad they let him take charge here and he's like "ok... fine." these three are extremely fucking married. i'm delighted.

the three of them head to their ship. they've got more work to do, the whole despair apocalypse thing isn't fully over yet. naegi says they have to create their own futures, too.

we cut to black and now hinata is narrating again. he says the ordeal is over, and their daily lives have begun. "lives that are much more absurd, nonsensical, and irrational than before... things are... probably going to be a lot more difficult now." this isn't a mystery with a tidy ending, and it's doubtful the ending will even be good. visuals and background noise fade back in; we're looking out across a vast expanse of ocean, hearing the waves. hinata says the future's not a path, it's like an endless sea; you can try to go anywhere, but that doesn't mean you'll get there. even so, he's going to keep on living as himself. as hajime hinata.

and then we roll the credits! once again the end theme is written and performed by megumi ogata and as always it slaps and it did not make me feel normal at all. i was sort of planning on talking about the lyrics but that feels like it should be a separate post, and might also involve me doing some amateur translation work.

there isn't a post-credits stinger this time, but when the spike chunsoft logo appears at the end, monokuma falls down and lands on top of it. he says — and this isn't subtitled so apologies if my translation is a little rough, i only heard this the one time after all — something along the lines of "until next time, thanks, everybody! i love you bastards!" (yeah, he used omaera and aishiteru in the same sentence) and then he lets go of the logo and falls offscreen. And that's it! that's the actual end of the game. we did it. we fucking did it. it only took me a year and eight months. Holy fuck
