Someone finally told Jace. Thanks Simon! I’m pretty sure Jace didn’t even realize (and he doesn’t answer to that here, either)

Jace: Guess it takes one to know one (...) Simon: Clary and I had each others backs our entire life.

But I loooooooooooooooove how protective of their relationship Jace gets. Even if he doesn’t treat Alec well. He still won’t let anyone talk shit about their relationship

Jace knows exactly how much he hurt Alec in the last episode. (Saying his mother was right, that Alecs not good enough. Ignoring their duties like reporting to Maryse...) He can’t face Alec.

Clary being a hundred percent supportive of their relationship and respecting how close they are (even if she’s in love with Jace herself). That’s awesome. She’s known them for five days and sees how they need each other. I love her for that.

And Magnus being immediatly in “is he free now? Am I allowed to? Please let meeeeeeeeee”

Alec: No, you heard wrong. (resuming his beating)

Izzy: (stopping him) It’s true Alec! They need a political alliance quickly to restore our family name and our influence at the Clave.

Alec: So wait, when I’m getting married, what are you doing? Izzy: They need me to convince the Clave to placate the Seelies somehow.

Alec: Is that what you’re calling it now? Izzy: Alec, I’m on your side. Alec: Really? I followed every rule. I’ve given up everything!

Izzy: We’ll find a way out of this

I love how Izzy immediatly dashes to save Alec from his sense of duty. But what she didn’t count on was that Alec is so fed up with everything that he doesn’t even consider marriage at first. (We all know what happened later...)

Also: “Screw the rules. Screw them. Screw all of this” is such a mood

Alec: Do you remember when I was ten? And there was that kid, Preston, who kept beating the crap out of me in kendo training? Maryse: You had perfect form, perfect technique. Alec: That was what was holding me back. You said I needed to mess it up, break form, do something he wouldn’t expect. It went against every fiber of my training but I adapted.

Alec: Until his mother yelled at you, and insisted I be punished for insubordination.

Maryse: ... The way you took it. Alec: I knew it had to be done. We can figure out a work-around for whatever the Clave is throwing at you. Maryse: Work-arounds can get messy, if you recall.

Alec: Tell me what you need me to do I looooooooooooove Alecs loyalty. I love how he knows his favourite people and knows exactly what to say to build them up. Even though Maryse was such an asshole in the last episode about their assignments. He still stands by her (maybe because he can finally work with the law again and finally feels more comfortable in what he’s doing again)

Also, I don’t know why “We break noses and accept the consequences” is so empowering but fuck if it isn’t I don*t know what is

Understanding differs.

Remember that awesome conversation between Alec and Maryse about the little story of Alec breaking a nose and accepting the consequences? Well yeah, that conversation had consequences. (I made a post about the whole thing earlier, if you want to reread it)

For Maryse, it reassured her, that Alec will accept everything thrown at him. That he’ll use whatever he’s given and adapt, make it an advantage and accept the consequences out of this. Maryse got endorsed, that Alec would prioritize the family honor over his own want and that he knew what had to be done. So, naturally, she wanted him to do the same now. Accept the neccessarity, adapt and restore the family honor in marrying a woman.

But that’s not what Alec wanted to say at all. He made his point in breaking the form, do something they (here the Clave) wouldn’t expect and that way, succeed. And after messing it up and changing the usual way, you accept the consequences of your own way and the neccessary punishment afterwards. He kind of tried to explain all the unsanctioned missions on Clarys behalf like that to his mother, without actually mentioning them.

And that’s why Alec lashed out when Izzy told him, he was not allowed to be the diplomat and leader anymore. Because Alec just told his mother that the “perfect way and form” wouldn’t get them anywhere, even if another way had consequences. He thought his mother lost her trust in him. That his only job now was to get married to some stuck up lady from the Clave.  And Izzy would be the Diplomat now. Because she’ll certainly do it differantly than him.

And BAM that’s why his loyalty is slipping.

Clary: Ever since I found out that Valentines my father, I always wondered how she could be married to someone like him. And why she stayed. She had to stop him Magnus: And safeguard the cup. Everything Jocelyn did she did to save the people she’d sworn to protect.

while she sure messed up her daughter, she was married to the man who wanted to kill all the Downworlders to prevent him from actually killing everyone. That takes one hell lot of patience, self-control and dedication, because she watched the man she loved become a ruthless, insane mass murderer.

So I kind of can understand why she kept Clary out of all this... But Jocelyn could also have shown Clary how to be an open minded-Downworlders respecting Shadowhunter. Izzy managed to be one even though she learned at the Shadowhunter acadamy where they are everything but Downworlder friendly.

But even if Jocelyn was afraid of the Clave....She could have at least shown Clary how to fight. Or take her to karate classes. Or kickboxing. Anything

It’s funny how in the beginning Maryse and Robert play this kind of good cop-bad cop game. And in Season 2 they switch sides completely. (Also, that’s part one of this conversation, part 2 will be coming soon)

Robert: You went rogue. And now the Clave thinks our family honor is beyond repair. (...)

Izzy: We'll do better. Jace, Alec and I, we'll restore the family name and our honor.

Robert: than you need to understand the honor comes from the deed. It's not a simple proposition to restore it. It's gonna require a tremendous sacrifice

So, let's talk about this. The deed that brings honor is... Marriage? What the fuck? I mean, sure, getting commited for your whole life to someone that likes to follow the rules sure is a nice idea to get rogue teenagers under control... But we saw it doesn't work! Example A - Alec and Jace!

At least Robert knows that an arranged marriage is a big sacrifice and will hurt the kid they're choosing their entire life.

Maryse thinks Alec won't mind, because he'll place his family over his happiness and Izzy wouldn't follow through with it. And I think Robert wants to let the kids choose? I'm not sure. At least he wants equality, that's definetly a bonus for him.

You know, as much as I don’t like Robert... I’m really happy for Izzy to have at least one parent that cares for her.

Simon’s the only one really judging Alec here. Of course, Izzy banters and teases, but she’s doing it because she loves Alec. Clary respects Alecs feelings and wants him to talk about it. Magnus wants to be with him… Even though he’s the one implying that Alec’s a virgin. The question is why? Because he gets flustered so easily or being bitter? Anyone have an idea?

But Simon is the only one being “You’re that bitter just because you don’t have sex” He could also have said “Get yourself fucked properly and you won’t be that much of a bitch. I know he didn’t say that, but it feels implied.
