I encountered the funniest phrase I've ever read in a scholarly article yesterday and I had to share it with yall. I will now quote scholarly sources when assessing whether something is tiny, teeny, or teeny-weeny, thank you.
#the article was about micro signatures by artists in safavid islamic manuscript illumination btw#which is a really fascinating subject#and i can tell the author had a lot of fun with it too#bc they threw this in there lmao#the article is called 'who's hiding here? artists and their signatures in timurid and safavid manuscripts'#by marianna shreve simpson#art history#islamic studies#history#dark academia#silly academia#wait correction its a chapter from the book affect emotion and subjectivity in early modern muslim empires:#new studies in ottoman safavid and mughal art and culture#the title of their book is too long for just one tag#not teeny-weeny status

If I had a nickel for every time Scott Westerfeld fridged a male love interest for the sake of a female protagonist's development, I'd have TWO nickels, which isn't a lot but it's a great trope subversion

I'm just going to start making posts about classic literature the way modern fandoms do with characters because I need an outlet and none of my friends willingly read these books
#Zeta Rambles#You guys don't even understand the emotional rollercoaster I just had reading the beginning of “Ulysses”#For context I love Faulkner and near the end of part one I was like “I don't like the Quentin bridge scene vibes this is giving me”#Maybe this is why my professor looked so amused when I told him I was looking forward to reading this book#“Ulysses is a hard read but you like Faulkner.” still the funniest thing he's said to me about my Faulkner obsession#Literally. Shreve was basically my first blorbo. I think that says something about me but I'm not sure what#I can't get over Stephen's thought process. It's so perfectly unhinged. I love the prose and its cadence so much.#Also. That line. That freaking “Wilde's love” line actually caught me so off-guard that I had to close the book for a second. LIKE HELLO???#Anyways. I have a feeling my professor is going to LAUGH when I tell him I read all of part one.#He told us just to test the waters. Maybe try to read the first few pages. I think he anticipated everyone being too frustrated to read mor#JOKES ON HIM! I freaking love reading this sort of prose. Stream of consciousness my beloved

I stumbled on to these tiny TVs on eBay and decided to craft one into an homage to Bob Shreve who was a movie host and tv personality here in Cincinnati when I was growing up.

my comprehensive list of books i adored and devoured (from october 2022 to now)
the secret history: a group of young adults trying to gain the knowledge of the old greek by doing a dyonisis ritual. they also murder people. bunny had it coming though
laughter in the dark: suprinsigly my first nabokov read and it was amazing. albinus was just the kind of slightly hysteric rich man i despise. he had it coming too!
lolita: my second nabokov. i went in with the expectation that humbert is painted as a sweetheart because otherwise i couldnt think of a reason why people lacked the ability to see what a disgusting monster he was. turns out: nobody seems to have reading comprehension skills. beautifully qwritten.
the bell jar: oh my god. sylvia plath, thank you for writing this master of introspective literature. i even like the subtext and the literary discussions about it better. this book has a special place in my heart
the catcher in the rye: i found holden caulfield to be a very relatable character. the way he tries to have empathy with most people. the scene where hes with the prostitute. its a bittersqweet read for sure
olympia: dear god. it might be a classic 90s middle aged mom romance but its language is beautiful. i didnt really care if their age gap was problematic. i wouldve done the same. it made me cry 2 times
much ado about nothing: thank you, robert sean leonard for getting me into shakesspear. i thought he was quite good looking after watching house md so i looked up where hes been in and decided to read the play before watching the movie. i love it with all my heart. its funny. and i hate claudio that dumb cretin. my favourite characters were probably hero and benedick.
-> ive read many more novels but these were my absolute favs.
bonus: books i disliked
dps book to the movie: i only read like ten pages it was bad
divergent 1: i wont say anything...

The Daily Coyote: A Story of Love, Survival, and Trust in the Wilds of Wyoming, by Shreve Stockton, 2008
I originally read most of the way through this book at my college library and then bought it at my local thrift store recently. I do not like this book honestly, and originally threw it down when the author resorted to using Cesar Millan's advice/methods on her wild born pet coyote. It aggravates me in numerous ways, in the way I expected a book from someone who got a surprise wild born coyote puppy as a pet to. Nonetheless, I have a copy so I was able to finally finish it, and have it on hand to reference. I want every single coyote book I can possibly get my hands on, including the ones I dislike.
#my library#the daily coyote#shreve stockton#2008#2000s#coyote book#coyote#exotic pet#fwiw im not fully against owning coyotes#and i would 1000% take a wild born coyote myself lmao#but the situation here is. grating. in very predictable ways.#insert rant about coyotes not being good pets for most people and being prepared and blah blah blah

Dark Side Of The Ring - Abdullah the Butcher: Legacy of Blood
I feel sorry for the guy, because he didn't want to see his mother working tirelessly to feed the family, and he skip school to earn extra income. But, in Devon Nicholson health issue, that he did wrong for destroying his career, and he should have not use an old razor on. But more surprisingly, he went to sue him, instead of confronting him on why he use an old razor, and that it was bit to much, after what he did for him. All I say this episode it is mixed feelings.
