my comprehensive list of books i adored and devoured (from october 2022 to now)
the secret history: a group of young adults trying to gain the knowledge of the old greek by doing a dyonisis ritual. they also murder people. bunny had it coming though
laughter in the dark: suprinsigly my first nabokov read and it was amazing. albinus was just the kind of slightly hysteric rich man i despise. he had it coming too!
lolita: my second nabokov. i went in with the expectation that humbert is painted as a sweetheart because otherwise i couldnt think of a reason why people lacked the ability to see what a disgusting monster he was. turns out: nobody seems to have reading comprehension skills. beautifully qwritten.
the bell jar: oh my god. sylvia plath, thank you for writing this master of introspective literature. i even like the subtext and the literary discussions about it better. this book has a special place in my heart
the catcher in the rye: i found holden caulfield to be a very relatable character. the way he tries to have empathy with most people. the scene where hes with the prostitute. its a bittersqweet read for sure
olympia: dear god. it might be a classic 90s middle aged mom romance but its language is beautiful. i didnt really care if their age gap was problematic. i wouldve done the same. it made me cry 2 times
much ado about nothing: thank you, robert sean leonard for getting me into shakesspear. i thought he was quite good looking after watching house md so i looked up where hes been in and decided to read the play before watching the movie. i love it with all my heart. its funny. and i hate claudio that dumb cretin. my favourite characters were probably hero and benedick.
-> ive read many more novels but these were my absolute favs.
bonus: books i disliked
dps book to the movie: i only read like ten pages it was bad
divergent 1: i wont say anything...

Strange Fits of Passion by Anita Shreve
I don’t have many more Anita Shreve books to read and in a canon that is now finite, I feel very, very sad about this. Because once you find a writer into whose words you can slide, following their rhythm with ease towards full immersion into their storytelling, you become greedy for more and crave the escape. Knowing that there are only limited opportunities in your future to do this has to…

L'amour n'est pas que la somme de douces retrouvaillent et de séparations déchirantes, de baisers et d'étreintes, il est surtout fait du souvenir de ce qui s'est passé et du rêve de ce qui est à venir.

Text
I walk around the cottage, touching things because you touched them. A book of Rilke. A plate that once had jelly on it. A hairbrush from which I have not yet removed the chestnut hairs. It’s a kind of sickness, isn’t it? An illness that has invaded me. Or rather the return of a chronic illness. This bout fatal, as I know it must be. I think that words corrupt and oxidize love. That it is better not to write of it. Even memory, I think, is full of rust and decay. I have always been faithful to you. If faithful means the experience against which everything else has been measured.

I am currently reading this book “Fortune’s Rocks by Anita Shreve. I am new to reading novels, I haven’t read any novels if not for school purposes and it’s my first time reading a fiction book seriously. I can dare say that it is fun and addictive, I have bought new books I’m afraid and I will for sure buy new books for the next coming days. This particular book I say is very well written, a love born of clandestine meetings and longing stares- yes illicit affairs. Forgive me for I am not really good at book reviews given that I am new in this world. I am enjoying this book but I cannot sympathize fully to the main character, in as much level maybe because I find her and specially the man, whose age is twice as her, took advantage (as I see it) of the girl’s’ innocence to love though she knew what she was doing , she knew the weight of what she did, I have much more hate to the man. I find him irresponsible. Yes, what they had was born out of love but the love they had, it isn’t supposed to be pursued. Sometimes the love we want, isn’t the love we are supposed to pursue. I am near to finish it and I am curious and excited as what will be the end of the story. Anyways, incredible writing, beautifully written, heartbreaking story. Forgive also my grammar, I am not very fluent in English.

1, 2 & 8? ☺️
Thank you! <3
1.book you’ve reread the most times? Probably Twilight, but in my defence, I was 15.
2. top 5 books of all time? This one is hard, because I have nostalgic memories of books that I doubt I would find as good now as when I was a teen. So, like, bear that in mind.
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Wolf
The Hours by Michael Cunningham
Fortunes Rock's by Anita Shreve
A Thousend Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Syndafloder by Christina Ohlsson
8. what is the first book you remember reading yourself?
The Slumber Party Secret in The Nancy Drew Notebooks. But in Swedish.
