Usually, I log windshield hours overnight, bleary-eyed and hammer down for shoot and projects down south..it’s not a great use of my time and the jet lag can be pretty brutal. Flying with camera gear is a drag, so until I am flying myself there in my own plane, I’d rather drive when possible. But then I found @amtrak - a perfect happy medium and a damn fine way to travel. I setup my roomette office and got to work taking calls, editing vids and building websites, breaking just long enough for complimentary meals and good conversations in the dining car with people I don’t normally encounter. For instance, Hunter & Claire, the WWII vet and his wife I enjoyed a meal with in route to LA while the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. They told me stories of the draft, raising a family, a career at @nasajpl and restoring a vacation house in falls city with their boys. I’d never have that experience in the car and most likely, not on a 3-wide coach config of an airliner either. After dinner, I was surprised to find the bed turned down, pillows fluffed and ready for a good sleep to the tune of the train chugging down the tracks. It’s old timey, it’s slow, its comfortable and it’s awesome. Those fans that were in line during their first ride on Splash Mountain, who presumably spent probably like an hour behind them watching them vlog and stuff. And then one had the balls to try and hold up his phone to show the camera something in the background. Fuckin iconic bro. Plus them finally saying something when they finally take off on the rude was sweet

More to come from the gorillas during the video! The alpha male Jambo, the hairless chimp, jumping around. A lemur close-up with his mate pulling his head away. A close-up of a South American sea lion. A beautiful tiger looking straight into the camera. A visit to Amsterdam took me to the gorilla youngster from the Artis Zoo. He has a little jump and when the other gorilla beats his chest at the silverback, he jumps down the rock but instead of chasing the chest-beating gorilla the Silverback just has a little twirl instead. Lovable Orangutan Sprout gives me a fist bump through the window. A very clever individual as you might have seen from many of my videos of her. The lar gibbons from the Dudley zoo, always a delight seeing them they do brighten up your day with their funny antics like this one doing his bodybuilding pose. Shufai is having a little dance on the hut and the white-cheeked gibbon having a little juggle with the salad. His name is Gary and somehow this always makes me laugh. Gary the gibbon. I have no idea how he got his name. Maybe from a keeper's name, but not quite the usual exotic name for a gibbon. Back to Shufai again and him jumping on mum Ozalas back, when he's really getting too big for a ride, but mum doesn't seem to mind. Lope having a slide down the hill, nothing unusual there, just Lope being Lope :-). The Elephant baby having a bath at Chester, with dad watching over him. Back to the funny gibbons, perhaps the best place to sit is not on a family member's head. A close-up of an owl stare. A funny Black-tailed Prairie dog doing a march. The bonobos love playing on that slope. Last year a new baby for the family, that is all smiles. The Small-clawed Otters started it all, me filming animals. Their amazing juggling skill, handling of pebbles and stones always amazed me. I can't forget Lope's signature upright walk, with Gorilla Biddy, Ozala and Shufai when he was still quite small sitting at the wall. A Celebes crested macaque looking frantically through the woodchips and the face I made seeing it, well not quite. :-). A couple of close-up reptiles. A visit to Berlin showed me the giant Panda, all relaxed, eating his bamboo while mum was off view to care for her newborn babies. A young lion from Artis Zoo trying to roar, but instead just pulls a funny face. Back to Twycross with another closeup of Lope. A look at Shufai on mum's back doing some kind of acrobats and a later look of him, He's upper arm are quite amazing. He's going to be strong and Lope better watch out. The Orangutan babies from Twycross Zoo Kayan and her Brother Basuki. Jambo balancing on the ribbon, he still with his two ears. Jambo having a yawn, showing off his huge teeth. My beautiful wild red fox, that is dearly missed. I had a couple of videos/photos of her, but she vanished and it seems like some other foxes have taken over that are not as friendly as she was. Ozala nursing her son Shufai. A close-up of the beautiful Asante, the timid aunt. A close-up of Oumbi and Shufai. A sea lion, lion and a Puma.
