queerbaiting isnt even real tbh
#that is to say. the phenomenon that the term 'queerbaiting' was coined to describe is WAY rarer that we act like it is#i personally hate the way it was always defined as being done to appeal to ~progressive~ and/or gay audiences#no it was for straight women and always was#shows that i truly think are egregious queerbaiting were sherlock and merlin#spn is an interesting case bc it ABSOLUTELY is but it also clearly got ramped up in response to fan reactions#like i dont think it was at all intentionally gay in s4 or even maybe 5 like theres a Shift in how theyre written#and i think sherlock got WORSE in response to fans#but the gay jokes etc were there from the start#anyway the only other thing ive seen thats THAT kind of queerbait is free! the anime which#i think is very obviously For Straight Girls but again. so are all the others#anyway this is genuinely so interesting to me and i love to talk about it w ppl who feel differently#but i just think we throw around the term SO casually and very few things are actually Bait in the way it was coined to mean#probably teen wolf is but i never saw that#i also believe that supergirl got baity but i stopped watching after s2 and i dont think it was at that point#and that IS an evolved form that WAS for gay fans ofc#r.tx
