#'haha yeah the court just kinda stopped yk :)'#<- THAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING PART TALK ABOUT WHY#shoutout to that one guy though that told them to stop describing the Puritan beliefs as “bizarre” <3#cause yeah he's right; the SWT is a case where imposing modern ideas doesn't help at all. because as different as some of their beliefs-#- might seem from ours now; there *is* a logic to them but you're not going to pay attention to that if you just write them all off as craz#like yeah no shit the witches weren't real; but knowing that doesn't offer any insight when you're trying to understand the actions of -#-people who (somewhat reasonably) did think they were real.#also the “they were all just crazy” mindset kinda turns the SWT into like.. this one freak event that happened because People Back Then -#-believed in witches.#we in the modern day are not absolved of having those exact same mentalities and acting on them in the exact same way#and it gets super interesting if we can compare the SWT to like the red scare for example and examine the common factors there to better-#- understand how that paranoia and those mindsets get started and how we can break them
