I’d love to know what you think! When people theory craft about your characters and stories, how much of it would u say is actually warranted and how much is wild over-analysis and speculation, connecting dots that aren’t actually there?

It doesn’t really matter as long as people are having fun, but when it comes to stuff like that one big theory board, is your reaction more of a “it’s not that deep, this was never intended” or a “wow, they’re actually picking up what I’m putting down”?

Feeling self-conscious about the ol ‘tism, so thought I might as well ask and clarify how much overthinking can actually be justified in this case. Regardless, I think if people are thinking THAT MUCH about your work, that’s defo something to be proud of :]

I actually love the big ol theory board, shoutout to Clain! 99% of the time I think I just love that people are invested enough to give a fuck.

There are the occasional theories I see that are a little silly and not grounded in any sort of connective tissue, but that's just every fandom ever and it also helps to remember that for my SFW narrative stuff there might be younger folks who are engaging with media like that for the first time in a fandom space and I would feel shitty if I was like lol wow are you DUMB when someone was just trying to have fun enjoying a story and wondering about the next step or the mysteries yet to be solved.

I haven't always held my tongue and as I've grown older and been around longer I recognize that most often the best option is just to be grateful and let people do their thing. It helps that my brain doesn't feel like it's in a pressure cooker so much anymore.

I typically see people with theories that are quite well thought out and at least are based on asking the right questions. That's the big thing. There are degrees of foreshadowing and mysteries. Some have all the pieces and can be reasonably understood with some thought. Others don't have many pieces available at all. Some are things people don't even realize are things yet. Layering it like that makes sure that the process will be rewarding in new ways over time vs AHA, PLOT TWIST!

Not that I'm opposed to aha moments, obviously. But there are many ways to do reveals and build a story that provokes thought and theory crafting!

tldr: I love it. I've seen some that really made me go OMG YOU GET IT! Which is really gratifying 🥲

1- I refuse to let it sink in that a certain someone was gut stabbed and is now buried under a lovely cross (the unicorn leg, the scarf with the ring, get out stop). I will be anxiously awaiting the fanfic writers to fix this. Plz. I’m going to go on Ao3 immediately after I post this.

2- is that dream sequence of Stede’s actually foreshadowing? Because while Izzy does not die at his hand, Izzy dies due to Stede’s plan. Idk.

3- if Izzy doesn’t fucking haunt someone on the crew I’m done. He better show up like the Badmintons to call everyone cocksuckers or I sue.

4-Lucius and Pete got married and that brings me joy (in this pit of despair)

5- aw Ed. ED. I was cackling when he sucked at fishing and Pop pop was ready to fucking beat the shit out of him. Iconic. Also him just staring at the burning ships and being like “stede”. Stop. Also the I love you and the like I saw u do all that “cool” pirate stuff. And BABE. And THE LETTER.

6- Ed pt.2 IZZY AND ED. THAT SCENE STOP. While I don’t feel like Izzy should have died I think he was awesome this episode and definitely like came full character arc this season (the talk with our least favourite pirate wannabe and final words with Ed - I.e., Ed has so much family now. He can just be Ed)

7- Spanish Jackie being awesome and the bit about poison tolerance amongst the hubbies. I love her and the Swede and the Swede is finally getting some fucking respect and love and aw.

8- the seagull on Izzy’s grave. Hey buttons, love u

9- and the quad lives (shoutout to my lovely 4 Jim, Archie, Oluwande and Zheng Yi Sao). Also that moment between Zheng Yi and Auntie. Also Jim patching Auntie up.

10- ok gotta circle back to Izzy and the pirate wannabes chat and how much I love Izzy

11- how are we feeling about ep 8 Bonnet. I personally think he still needs some humbling. Idk because I’m happy about the progress he’s made re being made out to be a failure his whole life and coming to terms with that and becoming this more confident version of himself (I mean he had confidence from Day 1 but he was mighty plagued by all the Shit he went through in his youth). I enjoyed him “trying to protect” Zheng Yi when she wouldn’t run away when the navy because she was mighty fucked over losing Auntie and her crew (which my poor baby). Also I like Zheng Yi calling him out on his bullshit 24/7. But also idk I wanted him to like apologize or smtg because he was being a right dickhead the previous night. Also idk so happy Ed told Stede he loves him but like life’s a dick but so were u Stede… basically I love that Stede is unapologetically himself this season but also sometimes u do need to say ur sorry for being a dickhead.

12- the crew when Izzy died. The look on Jim’s face. Stop. I need to rewatch and look at Al their reactions but Jim’s caught my eye of the pain and sorrow because WE ALL LOVE IZZY NOW.

13- once again, Izzy better haunt someone or I sue

im curious about the origin of the name since its definitely not literal (unless im being stupid and dont remember something about our convo JANDSKFN)

if i AM mistaken i have another question - whats a weirdly specific detail that you put effort in even if no one notices? im sure most writers have that one small detail that never gets attention but is super important to them (this question could be about foreshadowing, design details, headcanons... whatever!)

Name origin

The Garden AU was initially named that because of Moominmamma’s garden, but more specifically this remastered version of the 90s song. When first listening to it, that’s when I came up with (one of) the main idea(s) of the au (which has kinda gotten lost as time has gone on, but will hopefully still remain relevant to the lore lol): “What if Moominmamma’s garden and the Moominhouse were kind of like safe havens for magical creatures? What if they were naturally drawn to it?”. This lead to me making Moominmamma and Moomintroll witches, the Snorks fairies, Sniff half dragon, and Snufkin the mysterious jackalope that he is, all eventually drawn to Moominvalley in their own way! (small fun fact about very VERY early versions of the AU: Snufkin was initially meant to be a shapeshifter, but it was quickly scrapped. i don’t think it fit his character the way i wanted it to lol)

Specific detail no one notices

i do know some ppl have noticed this detail (shoutout to those who have lol) but still… Snufkin’s legs are REALLYYYY fucked up actually, like from a realism standpoint i think lol? I’m not sure actually… i’ve just never seen any animal that has deer legs with paws instead of hooves… he ended up that way because he’s only half jackalope and I wanted to show the mumrik side with more details than just the more “human” face, so… paws! I know there’s some rlly old art i’ve posted on here that clearly shows them lol. He also has boots made for his weird little legs that he wears during those cold, snowy winters, but I don’t blame anyone for not knowing that bc I barely draw him with them!! waah!!!

(I really wanted to go into foreshadowing here but… i cant.. i CANT 😭 ITS JUST TOO COMPLICATED AND NOT EVERYONE EVEN KNOWS ABOUT THE PILLARS YET … someday tho… someday…)

hi, i just read all of ur posts tagged as misqnon's one piece liveblogging and it was so much fun T-T. im here to rant about one piece and im sorry.

i really love seeing people react to content i am caught up with and hold close to my heart.

i got into the 800s in the anime and stopped watching, took a break and then read the manga up to around 1060. but last month i decided to read the whole thing from the beginning and it is genuinely SO WORTH IT.

after u have caught up completely its super rewarding to go back and look at previous chapters bc its constant "oh my god look what was foreshadowed here??" and "now i understand the context behind this!!!" and "this interaction is so much more meaningful now that i know their relationship!!". yes it did take me a whole month of nearly nonstop reading to catch back up but i have 0 regrets.

wano and the arc after it are both super fun and interesting and i think ur gonna love it. the lore is crazy. i hope u dont see any spoilers bc going into it completely blind will probably be way more exciting, especially with the most recent arc since its kinda suspenseful and mysterious,,.

I used to be the person who said I would never watch one piece 😭😭 I've been into anime since I was like 12 and I'm almost 24 now (fuck . That's like half my life) and obviously it's always been on my radar but I always thought it was 1. Too popular 2. Too Long 3. Hated how oda draws women lmao so I was fine ignoring it and only knowing the basics from just Being On The Internet

I think sometime early on I caved and attempted to watch it- I got to alabasta and stopped bc the anime pacing wasn't doing it for me (though I liked it up until then, but didn't LOVE it)

cut to high-school where a couple of my good friends liked it but we never really talked about it, it was a lifelong interest for one of them bc he'd started reading it on like 4th grade

Well I'm still friends with them (shoutout to sam and seb) and they convinced me to watch one piece film red with them in like July or August of last year bc they were showing me the songs and I, ado fan bc I'm a retired weaboo and a vocaloid Stan, was like "haha that sounds like ado" and they went "IT IS!!!!??" so I had to watch it for her.

again, I was like oh this is fun I like this :^) but no IMMEDIATE interest, more of a passive thing... until the live action came out a month or so later and I watched it just because and DAMN I FELL IN LOVE FAST

I went back to the anime and rewatched the beginning, then skipped back to alabasta where I had left off years and years ago and now I'm Here 🧍

I watched up through part of dressrosa before I started reading the manga, and now I'm doing that while watching certain episodes of just the parts I really wanna see animated

It's been. So Fun

I am now that person who's like Hey You Should Watch One Piece. I get it now. I so get it lmao. And you know the weirdest part is that with it being divided up into arcs like it is I find myself thinking it really doesn't feel that long!?!? Am I insane,

anyways. It's been a while since I was in an active fandom or even in a fandom at all - ESPECIALLY such a big one!?! (I was in college for 4 years and Busy).

but it's. Crazy. I'm writing fanfics and joining discord servers and I've never done that before. it's been very fun and rewarding tbh...I don't like a lot of things about oda and aspects he included and ofc one piece isn't perfect or unproblematic but it IS a really awesome epic of a story about friendship and found family and anti authority and its just.

I'm also a person who's always loved reaction videos or just even seeing otherppl react to things I like so I RELATE AND IM SO GLAD I CAN BE THAT FOR U...

I'm ngl as I've been reading I've been wanting to look up some old one piece forums dated the time certain reveals happened bc I want to see how people felt as this shit came out holy Shit....

it's additionally funny bc this blog is about 10 years old and has amassed a decent amount of followers over the years who were just into some of the other random stuff I've been into but I know a fair amount of them were thinking we were on the same page of not being into one piece and now here I am. Ruining that. And with the pervert character as my favorite no less. lmao SORRYYYY YALL <3

5. 3x01 - Buck and Chris’ conversation on the pier

okay okay, imminent tsunami notwithstanding, i love this scene. i love the way they’re positioned with christopher standing up to look at the water and buck holding his t-shirt. i love their conversation and chris’ little “you’re gonna be okay kid” and gentle face pat bc god that kid is perceptive but also so sweet and it shows a closeness between them that we haven’t really seen up to that point :’)

4. 4x08 - Christopher goes to Buck

okay the absolute galaxy brain fic plot aside (as in i literally read a fic with this exact premise mere days before the ep aired askdjfh) this was such a lovely scene. and i think it was great foreshadowing for what was to come later in the season because it emphasised that if he can’t talk to eddie then buck is the adult christopher trusts the most and it’s also an Excellent parallel to the michael/bobby/harry scene from s2 where harry is angry at michael and runs to bobby instead

3. 3x10 - “Buck, can I spend Christmas with you?”

god thIS SCENE. kind of like the 4x08 scene it really highlights the fact that if christopher can’t be with eddie then he wants to be with buck and it’s just?????so heartbreaking but also speaks so much to how much he trusts buck too??? and ugh eddie and buck sharing that little look and having that silent parent conversation is so good. (also bonus: all the little moments later at the party with buck eddie and christopher <3)

2. 4x14 - Chris and Buck’s morning routine

oh my godddd. do you know weeks ago i kept imagining what buck and christopher’s day would be like if eddie got hurt and was in hospital (before we knew it would happen) and 911 almost directly delivered on what i wanted???? there’s just something very calm and familiar in that scene. from chris waking buck up on the couch to them eating cereal together in their pjs to christopher teasing buck ugh it’s all so sweet!!!! and i know i keep using that word but i don’t know how else to describe them!!!!! @ 911 please give me that exact scene again in s5 but with eddie involved thank u <3

1. 3x02 - Everything on the firetruck

honestly the reason i prefer sink or swim to the searchers are for the scenes on top of the firetruck and those scenes alone. they’re phenomenal. i love the comfort of buck cuddling chris close and playing I Spy to distract him and their conversation about how christopher never complains and when buck says he’s afraid to tell eddie and chris says buck saved him and everyone else and buck trying to shield christopher from the bodies floating by and the hugs and aksjfh it’s Perfect. i understand the drama~ of buck and chris being separated but i also would’ve been extremely content with 2 eps of them chilling on top of the firetruck until eddie and bobby miraculously drove by on the boat and found them

I do still hope that RotT gives us even more Mede characters or fleshes out the other ambassadors - Akretenesh and Melheret (though we we just see them through the eyes of people like Sophos who vehemently oppose them) still seem less unique/complex/human compared to other antagonist-types like Ambiades, Sejanus, reader’s choice of baron.)

1: Age Group   For fic tbh whatever, I know a lot of people in fandom are underage and are exploring and figuring out what they like, etc. Plus not all my stuff is explicit, and some of the stuff that is still isn’t porn so. As for original stuff that will likely all be explicit as well, so an adult market audience.

2: Genre   Usually fantasy, sometimes science fiction.

3: Big Idea or Detail Oriented Outlining   binch i cant outline for absolute shit. I guess big picture but like…. ?? the biggest possible picture, almost to the point of being useless lmfao. someone help me.

4: Line Editing or Plot Revision   I prefer line editing for fics because I’m lazy and it’s for free, but overhaul type revision results in a better finished product so I use that for original stuff (and commissions).

5: With or Without Deadlines    With deadlines, definitely. I can crank out 1k in an hour if I have a deadline, but without one it can take me 2 years to write just as much (see: Zwangsneurose, started the second I got home from seeing The Winter Soldier, still not finished, word count at ~800 lmfao).

6: The Biggest Compliment   I love it when people mention details that they noticed! Or if god forbid I was funny once.

7: Current WIP Length   I have 12 fic WIPs right now and the longest one is 7.7k. I have 4 original WIPs right now, but they are all in development stages, with no word count yet.

8: Author Comparison Goal   @neil-gaiman 110%. He is my ultimate goals and a huge inspiration, not to mention just a plain cool guy. I also would love to be compared to Rick Riordan or Gillian Flynn.

9: Biggest Struggle   Foreshadowing probably. I sort of wing it as I’m writing, and I can’t do a very good outline like I said, so it’s tough to get good hints and clues as to what’s coming. That’s part of the reason my originals are taking so much development (not just because I have to fill in all the worldbuilding that is already mostly done for fic).

10: Brainstorming With Others or Alone     I like to do a bit of both. I really appreciate input, plus talking things out can really get the creative ball rolling. But I like to get into Deep Shit on my own too, especially with worldbuilding. I’ll always share with others though, even the stuff I wanted to come up with all on my lonesome.

11: Characters Based on Real People     I’m sure there are aspects of people I know, and of myself, in every character I create, and likely even in characters that have already been created. What you know will always leak into your writing. However, I don’t usually base a character fully (or purposefully) around one real person. I do namesakes though, but they’re almost never modeled after that person, it’s just a shoutout to someone I find inspiring in some way.

16: Movie or TV Show     Well two of them have pretty finite endings. The romance legend could be a tv show but with a limited amount of renewal, ala A:TLA (but I’d like it better as a graphic novel). The vampire tragedy has a very finite ending so that would make a better movie. And the witch noir and girl gang are both a bit neverending-WIP-ish so they’d make pretty good shows.

17: Soundtracks     Yes! They help keep me focused and writing in a cohesive tone when I have to leave and come back. Y’all can listen to the playlist I have for witch noir here. 26: My Genre Needs More…     Diversity in general, specifically more people of color, queer people, and people with disabilities (that aren’t magically erased). Also in my opinion there needs to be more things in between grimdark and go-lucky fairytale.

27: Inspiration Source     History, anthropology, and pseudoscience.

28: Character Naming Stress from 1-10     Probably about a 2 or a 3. I use behindthename.com which can be searched for meanings, sound patterns, usage, and origin, and has a handy “name themes” search algorithm. I also recently found the legit U.S. census thanks to @peppersandcats helping me out with search terms, and that can be sorted by ethnicity, gender, time period, and geographical location. So I’ve got names pretty well covered!

29: Underwrite or Overwrite First Drafts     It could go either way, but generally speaking unless I have a word limit I usually like to add more during editing. Except when something is confusing or too complicated, then I’ll cut it.

30: Calming or Stressing      Not really either tbh. I enjoy it a lot, but it’s mostly exciting! Not calming or stressful, but either a fun adventure or a challenging puzzle.

31: Favorite Trope     Tough to pick just one tbh. I love tropes when they are done “right”. Even tropes done classically can be great (as long as they’re not -phobic of some sort), but I especially love when they are done satirically or inverted.

32: Backstories for Side Characters     Guilty af. Even characters that might not even make it into the finished book have backstories, personalities, and quirks.

33: Characterize Before Writing or Develop with The Story     A little bit of both. I like to have a solid character to work with at the beginning, but for in-text character development I like to let that unfold with the plot and the other characters.

35: Villains or Heroes     I like them both pretty well, but my favorite characters of all time are always a little ambiguous so if I had to pick just one kind that’s what I’d go with.

37: Advice     Have fun! Be proud of yourself for what you come up with and celebrate your creativity even if you think it doesn’t compare with other writers. The happier you are to create, the more creative you’ll get. Also, like with any other kind of art, pick a couple role models to emulate and that will help you develop your own solid style.

38: Advice I Fail At     The first draft doesn’t have to be perfect. I spend too long line editing while I’m writing my first draft and that makes it a lot harder to finish anything.

39: Importance of Positive Reinforcement     I’d say reasonably important. Definitely helpful. But I know I’ll keep writing even without it.

40: Question for Favorite Author     How much difference is there between how his creation is in his head versus how it came out in the words, and does he ever think about rewriting things that are long finished?

41: Distracting to Read While Writing     Actually, no. Reading other comparable works helps keep me motivated, inspired, and focused.

42: Motivated or Discouraged by Critiques     Tbh I don’t think I have ever received a real in-depth critique so I’m not certain? I’ve had idle “I liked this, but I didn’t like/understand that” type of feedback, and that has usually been pretty helpful and appreciated. If nothing else it lets me know what parts of the story might not be as accessible to an audience.

43: Protagonists in My Likeness     Yes, there’s a little of me in very many of my protagonists, and often even in fic characters that I write. But, like with other real people, they’re not usually modeled after me, we just have some stuff in common because I leak over into them (and sometimes they leak over into me) when I’m writing them.

44: Choosing An Idea      This is something I struggle with, really. My process is usually to try writing a bit of it, and if I hate it it’s probably not viable.

45: Harder or Easier While Stressed      It’s usually a harder to write when I’m stressed, and what I do manage to write doesn’t have as much quality.
