Minion-esque oversaturation of Toothless in pop culture made me avoid How to Train Your Dragon for the past 14 years, but I finally decided to watch it last night and it really is an incredible movie. Yeah Toothless was obviously made to be as marketable as possible, but he does have a really good design and I liked that he wasn’t just this big friendly slob like I was assuming from fan stuff over the years.

I also really liked that disabilities and accommodations for said disabilities were just casually worked into the story. I had no idea Toothless essentially requires a mobility aid to fly. The ending scene with Hiccup discovering he lost his foot and needs a prosthetic, where they’re walking away from the camera and Toothless swings his asymmetrically-finned tail into view behind Hiccup’s metal foot, was incredibly sweet and not something I expected from a kids’ movie. I definitely didn’t cry a little [<-cried a Lot]

Overall I’m really glad I gave this movie a shot! Aaand now my mom wants a Toothless plushie for Mother’s Day 🤣

Update

So, back from vacation. (Might be a while before I catch any new episodes, I guess everyone is in the same boat on that.)
