I wanted to do a fic rec list for buddie, but also I hate deciding things and I’m bad at writing pretty things about the fics I like. So I went through my roughly 200 ao3 buddie bookmarks, pulled out the ones that, as stated above, made my brain go !!!, and put them in alphabetical order.

There’s 50 fics in total, so I broke it down to 5 more manageable posts of 10 fics each. This is post number 4. I hope you enjoy.

Fandoms You Write For: Currently Timeless, but I wrote several oneshots for Red, White & Royal Blue over the summer when I fell down that rabbit hole of feels, have a WiP for the Peter Wimsey Mysteries, and I’ve also written in the past for Black Sails, X-Files, and Daredevil/the MCU.  

Where You Post: On Ao3, although I also answer prompts here on tumblr.

Most Popular Oneshot: In the Timeless fandom, I would have to say either Woe & Wisdom or The Whistle Echoes (technically a two-shot but only because everyone asked for more after I originally posted it as a oneshot) based on response. 

By hits, however, it’s my first posted MCU fic on Ao3, the monument of a memory (tear it down), which is the first in a series that deals with fem!Tony Stark + the idea of Steve being found and unfrozen during the first Iron Man movie and goes from there. 

By kudos, it’s (baby) don’t make me spell it out, or I stayed up all night reading Red, White & Royal Blue and then read it again and @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels said I needed to write an engagement fic and well...disaster boys in love are messy and inspiring.

Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: Technically, it’s whispers like poetry, but for multi-chapters I wrote myself, it’s Enemies Foreign and Domestic, the Captain Hill segment of my MCU West Wing series In This White House.  

Favorite Story You Wrote: Too difficult; next question. Okay, actually that’s not true. I love almost everything I’ve written for greatly varying reasons, but I have a soft spot for writing rarepairs, so on that note, my two Asher Flynn/Maria Tompkins fics, we couldn’t bring the columns down (background for them in the epic All Souls AU by @qqueenofhades who was kind enough to let me play in her sandbox during the horrors of bar prep. I love it even though only like three people and a cat actually read it), and the lost myth of true love which is my take on background for them in canon. Also my Garcia Flynn/Lorena Flynn backstory series all the ashes in my wake.    

And I would be remiss if I didn’t give another shout-out to whispers like poetry, because I had a blast with that and the response was so great and getting to collaborate with the ever delightful @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels was a joy. 

Story You Were Nervous to Post: Revelations, and basically anything else where I’ve actively acknowledged Wyatt as a deeply flawed character who is very far from perfect, especially when I’ve also written him as not straight. 

How Do You Pick Your Titles: Not to be a stereotype on main, but song lyrics and poems all the way. I am utterly hopeless at picking titles otherwise. 

Do You Outline: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Writing Process Tag Game

Tag game! Answer 9 questions about your writing process, then tag 9 writers whose process you want to know more about. The point of the game is to have fun and get to know other writers. So no pressure! If you get tagged and don’t want to play, don’t worry about it. :)

1. How do you get your story ideas? How do you know when something is worth writing about and when it’s just a fleeting thought or fantasy? Tell us the origin story of one of your past or current WIPs.

A lot of times I’ll pick and choose from prompt lists I see on here. A lot of the time it’s just me trying to make @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels suffer with angst, since she reads most of what I write and for some reason she hasn’t learned that a large portion of what I send her is specifically for this purpose. 

It’s not really a WIP, just an idea that I’m running with in a series of quick scenes: I was bummed out recently that there’s not really any fic of Thane and Ashley (or Kaidan for that matter but I was doing my playthrough in which I saved Ash at the time so she was the one who came to mind) talking and becoming friends while in the hospital together, so I sighed, complained that I have to do everything myself, and started sending stuff to Madison. 

2. What are your writing tools of choice? Are you picky? Do you have specific brands you like? If you have neuroses in this department, we want to hear about them.

I don’t really have a lot of preferences. When I’m writing I usually use Google docs or OneNote. Except for the really weird thing about me, which is that most of my fic (with the exception of my KotOR monster and some bits and pieces of others) is written on my phone in text messages. Specifically to Madison, because again she’s the one who reads most of my stuff, and that means I get to wake up to her shouts of anguish in the morning

3. Where and when do you write? Morning? Dead of night? Your bedroom? The park? Paint us a picture of your usual surroundings when you sit down to write.

I tend to write more at night than during the day. Sometimes I write when I’m procrastinating on something and feel sufficiently bad about it that I’m not willing to procrastinate at the level of playing video games. 

4. Do you ever encounter writer’s block? If so, how do you overcome it? Any tips to pass on to other writers reading this?

Oh yeah. Often. If I’m working on a project (which I really don’t do often, most of the stuff I write is oneshots that I write in one sitting and sometimes edit) I’ll take a break and write something else, or play a game to try and get my imagination going (because my brain loves to pick up on details when I’m replaying games and I run with those), but mostly I just don’t let it be a huge obligation, which is helped along by the fact that I don’t have much of a following as far as fic goes (which is entirely my fault because I hardly post anything) so I don’t really feel any pressure to write. 

5. Do you outline? If no, why not? If yes, what kind of outlines do you make, and at what point in your writing process do you make them?

Ahahahaha nope. I think I sort of outlined my KotOR monster, especially once Wren decided to change up the plot a little bit, but that was more of a basic ‘what order is the story in’ as opposed to any real detail. Most everything else I write is a oneshot so it’s not really necessary. 

6. Is there anything about your writing process that other people might consider to be unique or weird?

Just the thing I previously mentioned, me writing in texts. 

7. When and how do you edit? After the first draft? During? Do you have a method, or is it kind of a free-for-all?

The only stuff I really edit is the stuff I post, and if I’m doing that I’ll usually copy it to Google docs from my phone and edit on the computer. If I post on AO3 I’ll go over it again while I’m posting to make sure I got all the italics in and stuff. 

8. Do you ever take breaks from writing? For how long? Do these breaks feel rejuvenating, or do they stress you out? Give us a sense of what life is like when you’re not writing.

Yeah, sometimes. Sometimes there’s just a lot going on irl, sometimes I get on a video game kick and I just need to play the game for a while. Occasionally I’ll actually *gasp* read a book or something. It doesn’t really feel one way or the other, just necessary. Writing is a thing that happens when it happens, and if it doesn’t happen that’s okay. 

9. When did you first start writing? Why? What’s changed since then, if anything?

I started actually writing things down in high school. I’ve gotten more confident in my writing, particularly my ability to do character voices, since then. Also I’ve gotten better at writing in general. Also shoutout to Critical Role for being the thing that got me started sending my stuff to Madison because she makes me feel loved and valued. 

10. Anything else you want to tell us about your writing process?

Nothing I can really think of. The thing with me is I get really hyperfocused on one or two fandoms max, and I can’t really stay focused on anything that’s not related to my current hyperfixations.
