A small flicker of surprise runs across Wilbur's eyes before his smile seems to become more genuine as he pushes the man he was holding by the shoulders to the side in favor of conversing with you.

Quackity let's out a small hiss of annoyance at being pushed to the side. But the snake-man stays quiet. Though the few looks passed between the two men make you feel like they are having a small conversation that you're not welcome in.

It's appropriate to his species how Wilbur tilts his head in curiosity, his smile curving up more unevenly now. His smirk occupied by sharp eyes you can never quite forget belong to a predator. "I mean. Surely you've noticed how things are bit more.... Off here."

this is about a stuffed bird, hermitcraft, T (warning: a bordeline M), 78k. in which an apocalypse happens that turns much of humanity into horrible monsters, mumbo gets a distressing call from grian and decides to travel across the country to meet him. still my most popular hermitcraft fic and my second-most popular fic overall. heavy on body horror, themes of what makes someone a person, and also evil x is here. i still love the mumbo voice in this, and it even has a complete podfic by quackingfish if you prefer audiobooks.

the continued adventures of the boatem road trip, hermitcraft, T, 28k. a series of events that take place as boatem is trapped in the void together for three months after big moon. originally written as a series of vaguely-connected oneshots on tumblr, gathered here into one place. the ending is a little abrupt, but if you're looking for something with the highest concentration of some of my favorite jokes i've made sitting right next to some good old cosmic horror, this is the fic for you.

the last days of the free angel of carrows, hermitcraft, T, 79k. the angel joe hills and the zombie cleo, owners of the atsign agency, investigate a strange mystery brought to them by pearl, and must save their city as they go. a noir-inspired urban fantasy i originally wrote for a big bang, and still my longest fic! it's got some of my favorite worldbuilding i've done, a great joe-and-cleo plot, a pearl i'm still obsessed with, and so much angel symbolism. if you like aus or urban fantasies, this is the one of my fics you should read.

solving counting sheep, evo, T, 78k. blade-three, living weapon of the watchers, is stolen by martyn after martyn finds its command words and taken home to jimmy to try to rehabilitate. what neither the property police or three itself know is that three is the ultimate fate of grian, their friend who they presumed dead. a fic that is very VERY much about identity and learning who you are, and also plays into many of my favorite living weapon and watcher!grian tropes--as well as subverts them in some heavy ways. probably one of the most personal fics i've ever written, as well. my understanding is that both people who like watcher!grian and people who hate it like this fic, which i take as praise.

the carriers, life series, M, 40k. PET mail (the group made up of Pearl, Etho, and Tango) are mail carriers after the zombie apocalypse, as well as asymptomatic carriers of the zombie virus. when cleo, a person from pearl's past, asks them to bring her a package, they go on a journey that barrels through all three of their pasts. this one is rated M for two specific reasons (both violence) but if you're chill with violence this one turned out pretty well! it is a very me take on a zombie apocalypse, what with the fact that the remnants of heavy industry are almost as much of a threat as the zombies, and a fic that leans pretty heavily on the double life soulmate pairs.

san luis, dream smp, T, 23k, perpetually unfinished. after the other three members of sbi die, philza tries to put back together the pieces. it would be easier if he wasn't hearing their ghosts. this is a fic i'm unfortunately unlikely to finish because it just makes me too sad to write after irl events, but it has some of my best handling of grief, and i know it brings some people comfort. if you don't mind me at my most unrelentingly sad, or are looking for that, i might still recommend it.

in deference to saint george, original superhero work, T, 42k. superhero superball, aka jack harlan, starts dating a customer he meets at the coffee shop he works at, while at the same time dealing with the attacks of the villain dragon and natural disasters. a hero/villain fic with a very ME kind of ending, i am still SUPER PROUD of this. i think the worldbuilding and characters work and it's my proof to myself i can write ow! also, if you've always wanted to read a superhero au from me, good news: this may not be an au, but it's very much exactly that.

long oneshots

consequentialism, hermitcraft, M, 5k. as the members of boatem start falling in the boatem hole, their own dead bodies start showing up. peak "WOULD THAT BE FUCKED UP OR WHAT" horror from me, and also the first hermitcraft fic i ever wrote! if you like my horror writing and aren't too squeamish, good news: this exists.

to convey a certain brilliance, hermitcraft, T, 21k. joe hills and zombiecleo slowly, and through many death loops, drag their way out of their collapsed base to try to survive after a lunar apocalypse. this is the second hermitcraft fic i ever wrote and i wrote it before we knew how moon's big would end, inspired by super hostile; people still tell me it has some of their favorite joe characterization.

cura te ipsum, hermitcraft, T, 15k. tango, in a world where the hermatrix is canon, wakes up on-board the hermethius after dying to the moon and has to try to figure out how to cope. still one of my favorite oneshots i've written, full-stop, and the culmination of all my big moon emotions. it can be considered fully canon-compliant, and it's mostly about all the big emotions something like big moon would cause.

jevin's egg disaster, hermitcraft, G, 7k. the eggs from the season nine egg hunt turn into real children. chaos ensues. this is technically sorted into chapters, and written as a series of very short ficlets on tumblr originally. it doesn't really "conclude" as a result. however this is me on pure crackfic and contains my favorite joke i've ever made (it's in chapter 7 if you're wondering) so PLEASE read it if all the rest of my 'everyone talks about their big feelings' is causing you to need a laugh because it WILL make you laugh.

attempt thirty-three, hermitcraft, T, 14k. joe hills experiences the thirty-third loop of the time loop he's been stuck in, trying to save the world from the rift. a fic exploring the idea of "what happens in that middle part of the time loop when you've been there a while, but don't have things solved yet?" if you like joe hills and you also like hurt/comfort, this is very much a fic with both of those things, and some of my best with both of those things.

a thing that is thicker than starlight, hermitcraft, T, 13k. after reuniting on an adventure through space, long-lost siblings cleo and gem return home and try to figure out where they're supposed to fit into each other's lives. written for recursive exchange and based on "out to the galaxy steady she goes" by thedepressedcanary, although this fic stands on its own. it's a vaguely treasure planet-like au, but it's also MOSTLY about the trauma your parents leave you and the feeling of knowing you're supposed to care about someone (but don't know how to yet). this is my sibling feelings fic, read it for sibling feelings.

the inner mechanism of a black box, dream smp, T, 14k. techno is trapped, isolated, in a horrible version of the prison with only his voices for company. still my most popular fic, and also the fic of mine that is most describable as 'whump'. i still really love the techno writing in this one; it may be the first complete thing i posted to the account but it's still good. written before we knew anything about the prison, and so the situation is entirely speculative; also written before 'techno in prison' really became a genre. you can tell both of these things, for both good and ill.

revenant, dream smp, M, 11k. jack manifold descends back into hell in order to drag tommy back up and out with him. written in a fugue state during the like, three days tommy was still dead. jack manifold is way cooler than he deserves in this fic (he is also EXACTLY as cool as he deserves). to be honest i don't remember why i rated this one M, but not stuffed bird? if you can read stuffed bird you can almost certainly read this. has some of my cooler weird formatting decisions in it and a WAY COOLER VERSION OF HELL THAN THE DSMP GAVE US I'LL STAND BY THAT.

bad beat, dream smp, T, 10k. techno goes to play a high-stakes game of poker against quackity, hoping to win insurance for his friends' lives. do you like card games? i like card games. most of this fic is a thriller in which they are playing poker. both people who like and dislike poker like this fic, though, because the thriller elements still work. also, my one take on casino quackity, so if you like quackity, give it a shot.

a kind of playing heartstrings, empires smp, G, 6k. jimmy invites scott to a cod empire gathering. an older fic of mine that's a cute take on empires flower husbands with a LOT of music culture worldbuilding for the codlands! this is just a fic that makes me feel cozy and happy. it is uncomplicated fluff.

survivorship bias, empires smp, G, 9k. an amnesiac jimmy is fished out of the water and into a surviving village that exists a few decades after the rapture, but still a great deal of time before empires season two will happen. a combination of worldbuilding of that transition period and emotions about jimmy, who doesn't remember why he's sad but certainly feels it. i enjoyed meshing different empires cultures together for this a lot!

the perils of updating your vault hunters server before even the public release (seriously who qa checks this), vault hunters smp, G, 9k. in which a bug on the vault hunters server turns all of iskall's friends into cute small children and he has to get them out of a vault again. this one is just an excuse for me to write endless Cute Baby Shenanigans, and if Cute Baby Shenanigans sound like they're your kind of thing, give it a read!

it's a long way down if you want to get up again, yugioh dm, T, 12k. mokuba tries to puzzle out why his brother is acting so strangely; as it turns out, this is because kaiba has recently time traveled. a fic shoving DSoD kaiba into the earliest parts of yugioh. he is very bad as a time traveler, and he's not necessarily making things better, but they aren't necessarily worse. also, a fic with a lot of my feelings about mokuba and seto's relationship, as well as their relationship with gozaburo. the kaibas will always make me feel things.

on burdens, yugioh dm, T, 11k. kaiba realizes that jounouchi is both more complicated than he gave him credit for and probably being abused, which changes his perspective on him. violetshipping, but mostly pre-violetshipping. another fic where i write people playing a card game! it is also as much about kaiba having the world's worst emotional intelligence as it is about kaiba and jounouchi both having shitty dads.

selected short oneshots

a question for the dead, life series, G, 1.2k. a script-format fic interviewing the dead players of last life. one of my favorite experiments with formatting of all time, line after line of character study with no wasted words. read it.

different sort of soulmates, life series, G, 926. an aromantic mumbo jumbo hears about double life after the fact, and talks through with grian his fears that he wouldn't have been capable of having a soulmate. cute grumbo friendship and also some feelings about feeling disconnected from the people around you. a personal favorite ficlet of mine.

the long odds, life series, G, 1.8k. martyn is invited to the table with the other writers to play a game. a very meta fic in which martyn plays blackjack with watchers and listeners. this fic is like 80% metafiction and allegory by weight, and i like it very much.

a murder, life series, G, 483. before limited life, jimmy and joel realize it's coming via a flock of birds on empires. a fic both with jimmy and joel's unique friendship and a meta twist on the whole canary thing.

task: answer the following question: do you believe in curses?, life series, G, 1.2k. the surviving members of secret life explain their thoughts on curses. a spiritual successor to 'a question for the dead' and another one of my absolute favorite experiments with formatting. another one with no wasted words that hinges on the character voice of it all.

home, life series, G, 887. cleo and etho have a conversation about their new relationship after secret life, given that cleo's aromantic. man, i love cletho so much, and i also really like the idea of aromantic cleo, so this is my ficlet with both of those things.

do you even lift, bro?, hermitcraft, G, 2.4k. boatem fluff about who can bench press the most members of boatem. this fic is still really cute tbh, not much else to say.

like father, hermitcraft, T, 2k. grumbot prime decides he has to protect grian the same way grian protected grumbot in another world. the horror of being trapped by something you can't escape in a box designed to stop you from hurting yourself; also, the horror of your mistakes coming to haunt you.

forgetful, hermitcraft, T, 977. an interaction between evil x and xisuma near the end of season eight. a ficlet exploring some of my feelings about how season eight evil x can very easily be read as abusive and not even xisuma ever seems to acknowledge that. also, the horror of admin powers in minecraft.

to spite your face, hermitcraft, T, 980. a ficlet where joe gets to be mad about how he was treated by hermitopia during the crossover. i just think i still have so many crossover feelings about joe hills on empires, that's all.

as what you make becomes you, hermitcraft, T, 3.2k. decked out consumes tango, as seen from three perspectives. technically three separate oneshots collected into one fic as one story, the idea of decked out 2 'eating' tango is one of my favorite horror concepts from season 9. this is my execution of it.

missed the shovel talk so this is the next best thing, hermitcraft, T, 941. the rest of the NHO throws a party for doc and then interrogates him about when he even got married to ren in the first place. a goofy, funny fic about the hermits hanging out and being friends. this one is mostly jokes, but i think they're very funny jokes.

I started it going "oh is this sympathetic [character]?" and then certain chapters hit and I went "oh noooooooooo" with eyes the size of saucers. Really interesting. Author has been going through it though.

It's super fun to see the monster designs for the hermits, Tommy was a star of his tv show but everyone was watching the show for side characters, I have no idea what's happening but I am SO here for the ride. A deep-dive into the Wilbur and Phil relationship as Wil grows up. As the author put it, this isn't Bad Dad Phil, but Phil is carrying his own trauma and Wil is a complex opinionated person and oof. Sometimes these things collide. It's the sort of messy exploration of that relationship that I have wanted for a long time, without villifying anyone involved. And thank goodness, a happy ending.

I was part of this one, but so were about twenty other people, so I feel justified in linking this one. Incredible interlocking series of comics, stories and art, doing a single slice of life in a city when everyone's powers are swapped, and what happens to the city's superheros and villains when they try to recover and fix things. So many cool POVs and story arcs.

genshin impact fanfiction. this might be too broad but im gonna count it bc i have read so many good fics that have changed my brain chemistry and i will dissect every single one of them for you

dream smp. unfortunately. tbh this would just be reminicsing about the fun ive had in like 2020-2022 in the fandom. the hype, the lore, the fan reactions. i would probably also go on a technoblade tangent

nine aetharia. i got into their music in 2019 because of the good omens fandom and have stuck with their channel ever since. i know every song they have posted there since then, including deleted videos and changed lyrics. ive analyzed every song and know as much lore about them and the behind the scenes stuff as possible. honestly i should probably calm down bc this is almost getting stalkerish but im kind and respectful and too scared to talk to the creator so its. probably fine ahahaha

cytus 2 but not the whole thing. like i can tell you random character facts but forget whole chunks of the actual story. i still remember enough lore to talk for an hour tho

LOLITA FASHION. HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT THIS UNTIL NOW. i will explain everything and just. go off about different outfits people have put together. and ones i want to make. and different brand releases and my thoughts and opinions about them. someone please let me talk about lolita for an hour uninterrupted

honourable mention goes to fear and hunger, i like it a lot but dont know enough lore/havent played it enough (im bad at the game) to confidently talk about it for so long. same goes for honkai lore, ive only played honkai 3rd up to thus spoke apocalypse before getting busy and losing interest (just from not playing it for a while). i would probably still be able to talk abt them for a while tho lol

I don't get why people are so glad Ranboo is leaving the dsmp /gen

Yes, Dream is an asshole and a horrible person, but Ranboo got a lot of their current audience by joining the smp, plus he wanted to join

I don't think we should be denying the past, our past when we got all exited for their lore and stuff, and I'm glad he's going towards new and better stuff don't get me wrong! I just think it's a bit hypocrite of all (not all I'm just generalizing from what I've seen) the fandom to be this glad when, again, a lot of us started to watch Ranboo because of this smp and they got his audience like that

i think a lot of us enjoyed the dsmp and that era and are all fully aware ranboo grew tremendously in popularity with the dream smp. that chapter however has ended. dream and his actions are revolting and i would say (i dont speak for everyone) the boobers who ive spoken to all agree they would not want ranboo apart of the dsmp season two. because it is connected to dream and would be directly showing that his actions are being ignored for the sake of a minecraft server.

personally i am very happy about ranboo removing the twitch tag & stating they would not be apart of season two. not because i am trying to shit on the legacy of the server or ignore all of ranboos success on the server but rather that ranboo will not be apart of the group that is going to be indirectly supporting a vile man and ignoring victims by being apart of season two whether they know about the accusations or not.

im sorry if any of my words ever led you to believe i am trying to deny the past with that server. i was in love with that server and the lore. i was there at the very beginning and i will forever cherish all the things that were built on there. whether it be literal builds or all the memories i have with it. however, for me it is an era i am putting in the past. present day i no longer feel connected towards that server nor want to post about it. i think every lore blog and people who have taken dsmp characters in as their own ocs are awesome and i still love seeing their posts but for my own blog i dont want to make posts about that server. every time i say anything like “fuck that server” “never speak to me about that server again” just know it is expressing my anger towards dream rather than the community, legacy, memories, etc. surrounded by it.

My @mcytblrholidayexchange gift for @bearandhoney-com! I really went for the "angst (or otherwise darker) content" part of your request here, and I hope it worked out well! Ngl, I actually spilled coffee on my laptop on the 11th, and was completely offline because of it for most of the exchange (i am SO sorry mods), so it was really up in the air if I'd be able to complete this, and I'm so happy that I did!

Tubbo sometimes finds himself wondering if Schlatt can read minds. 

He knows, logically, that he can't. Tubbo spends most of his time in Manburg after all, at the President's side— there's no way he'd be able to do that if Schlatt really was a mind reader. Still. Sometimes he wonders. Schlatt just seems to know things, seems to have an uncanny sense for detecting when Tubbo's not in Manburg, an uncanny sense for what buttons to press to set Big Q off and reel him back in, an uncanny sense for knowing exactly what to say when Fundy starts looking at the area where the walls used to be.

It's terrifying. More than that though, it's impressive. It's— and he stumbles over the thought even in the safety of his own brain, can't fathom putting it into words, but— quite honestly, it's cool. 

When Schlatt is at his best— and that's getting rarer and rarer these days— but when Schlatt is at his best and he's got a metaphorical good hand of cards, being around him is a rush like one Tubbo has only ever felt around Wilbur. It's much more volatile then Wilbur ever was at his most charismatic, sure, and there's a wave of nausea that often comes with it, but as long as he pushes down his uneasiness, that doesn't detract from the sheer coolness of it all. 

(Wilbur's not like that anymore, hasn't been since the election results. Being around him no longer comes with the rush of standing next to the man with the winning shot in his pocket— rather, standing by Wilbur is quite like standing next to an already ticking bomb.) 

He adored L'Manburg. He's... probably happier in Manburg than he should be. It's not a good place, fuck no, and the absence of Tommy and Wilbur haunts his every step, but... the landmarks are familiar, and he's seen the land a hundred times before, and sometimes he does a damn good job at convincing himself that that's all he needs. 

It's just a place, after all. Sure, his shoulders may instinctively tense up until he leaves the city limits, sure, he can't stand to look at Niki's bakery anymore, but it's just a place. Surely still liking a place isn't that bad. Surely he still likes his home. Surely— 

No, he's thinking himself into corners again. He keeps finding himself doing that when he works on the archive— needs to stop doing that, because every time he's lost in his thoughts and he fails to reply to one of Schlatt's messages, he just looks more and more guilty. 

(Despite his issues with Manburg, despite the way his stomach drops when he sees Schlatt with a bottle, despite the way an insidious, guilty relief crawls into his brain when it's Fundy or Big Q who's work Schaltt takes issue with— despite all that, sometimes Tubbo speaks with Wilbur, speaks with Tommy, speaks with the Blade, and finds himself thankful he wasn't ordered to move to Pogtopia.) 

Sometimes Tubbo wants to pull both Tommy and Wilbur out of that ravine. It's a stupid wish though. Where would he pull them to? They're all stuck at the moment. Manburg wouldn't be helpful, it would be the opposite. 

So everything's not... great, but it is manageable. It is workable. And that's the most he can ask for right now, isn't it?

Things get— tenser, between the President and his Vice. 

Quackity had been an impressive combination of moralistic and apathetic right after the election was won— confessing that the devil you didn't know sometimes was better than the devil you did when he got blackout drunk that night and Tubbo accidentally eavesdropped on a conversation with Fundy. Quackity was moralistic in that his reasons for running for President hasn't changed, his thoughts on how Wilbur was running the place hadn't changed, and apathetic in his almost-single minded focus on the joy over his victory while Wilbur and Tommy ran for their lives and Tubbo was tasked with hunting them down. 

Immediately after the election, Quackity was apathetic in a way that Tubbo would figure out was actually uncharacteristic of him as he got to know him better. 

It doesn't come out as care, not at first— just a casual disdain for doing something in a way that Big Q thinks is wrong. It elevates to genuine irritation pretty quickly though— when Big Q is all for Schlatt's plans, he's all in, but when he thinks they're dumb, he somehow manages to make them sound like the dumbest thing on the planet. 

(Schlatt doesn’t like that. But Schlatt doesn’t like a lot of things.)

Big Q's care, the actual passion and anger underneath it all, uncurl as months pass, as Schlatt gets more drunk and more stubborn and somehow more rude, as the President starts taking the smallest disagreements as personal attacks, as Tubbo, Fundy, and Quackity somehow find themselves trapped in a weird almost-competition for Schlatt's favor. The care uncurls, and Big Q starts yelling louder, stops portraying his anger as some sort of logical disdain for stupidity, starts putting more time and effort into keeping Schlatt somewhat stable and baiting him into a blind rage— at this point, the two feel like they are practically synonyms. At least when Schlatt’s angry, he’s predictable, and predictable is the closest any of them get to stability these days. 

It’s… nice, almost, how Big Q cares. It’s nice to see that there’s more to him than that glee at Tommy and Wilbur getting kicked out, that he’s truly sticking to his reasons for running for president.

But as the apathy seeps from Big Q, Tubbo finds himself taking more and more of it on. 

Balancing Schlatt and Wilbur is a sport he's gotten quite good at now— he's proud of it, almost, in the detached way anyone can feel pride these days. His concern was overwhelming at first, crushing him during any moment of downtime he had, but now it’s faded. Muted. Background noise, at most.

And that’s not to say that he doesn’t care about anything, because he does! Truly! He cares that Niki is furious, he cares that Schlatt seems to be doing worse. (It’s just that Niki's been furious for a long time now. It’s just that as he spends more time under Schlatt, he finds himself paying the price for caring more and more. It’s just that if he focused on all his emotions, he think he might explode, so instead he’s focusing on the few bright spots he has, and ignoring the rest.)

So maybe that’s why it's funny when Tommy gets stuck in between the pistons. Maybe that’s why it's funny that Wilbur rages after Tubbo gets him a backdoor the White House comms and hears the bullshit Tubbo's been hearing all day long. Wilbur couldn't manage both himself and Schlatt as well as Tubbo is managing them— Wilbur can't stand to hear even a day of it without publicly lashing out. 

Tubbo almost can laugh when he imagines Wilbur in his shoes.

One day, when Tubbo is leaving Pogtopia, he sees Dream. 

The apathy that has held him suddenly deserts him so quickly it nearly gives him whiplash. It's dread that clutches his heart first, then fear, then apprehension. Dream isn’t exactly an enemy at the moment, technically, probably, but… he’s not a friend either. He’s not someone who should know that Tubbo is playing both sides. 

He finds himself frozen in place as Dream tilts his head to the side, stares at him. The mask is worse when it's at a 90 degree angle, when it's trained solely on you and there's no one around, no one to save you. 

Then, in an instant, his head is back straight up, and his body is slouched, like they're two friends meeting at a bar, like he's not holding Tubbo's life in his hands. 

"Secretary," Dream says, and it's light, breezy. Tubbo swears he can hear his own heartbeat ricocheting in his brain. "You're a long way from Manberg." 

"I mean, it's not that long," Tubbo defends, and the words feel awkward in his mouth, awkward on his tongue. "There's, uh, there's like this tunnel system here? That we go on walks in sometimes?" 

It's a partial lie— Schlatt and Quackity take those walks, not Tubbo. Still, Dream nods along. 

"Sure," he says, crossing one arm over his chest, leaving the other one free to gesture. "Of course. Walks." 

"Yeah," Tubbo says, doubling down on it. "Walks.”

“And you take walks with your paperwork?” Dream asks, sounding amused. 

“I mean, it can get kind of stifling in the white house, you know,” Tubbo replies, “I like to uh, get some air. It makes the signatures go by faster.”

Dream laughs, not quite his signature wheeze, but something a little to the left of it. “Fair!” he says, “that’s– that’s really fair, Mr. Secretary. Let me tell you, I, I do not envy your paperwork.”

Tubbo tries for a smile. He comes up a little short. “What are you doing here, Dream?”

“Oh, a little bit of this, a little bit of that,” Dream says with a lighthearted wave of his hand. “Just getting the lay of the land, you know, seeing what’s up.”

Slowly, Tubbo nods. He starts to inch his way around Dream, and seamlessly, Dream shifts to keep Tubbo straight in front of him. “I heard there was a festival coming up,” Dream says suddenly, and Tubbo stiffens.

“Uh, yeah,” he says after a moment of silence. “Yeah, Schlatt wants to celebrate Manberg. President Schlatt, I mean.”

Dream nods along. “Good to keep up the citizens morale, I’d assume,” he says lightly. “Well, good luck. I hope it goes off with a bang.”

“Yeah,” Tubbo replies, and he’s opening his mouth to say something, anything when suddenly he blinks, and– Dream disappears. “Dream?”

No response. Tubbo looks around, scans the treetops. Nothing. He calls out again, gets no reply. The only evidence he was even here at all are the broken twigs in front of him, right where Dream was standing. 

It’s warm out. Tubbo finds himself shivering anyway.

When Wilbur tells Tubbo that he wants to blow up the festival, Dream’s words finally make sense.

He’s not bitter that Dream knew about this beforehand. Really, he’s not. The thought of it might hurt a bit, but it’s easy enough to bury that hurt in another layer of apathy, to instead focus on the task at hand.

Wilbur wants to blow up the festival, wants to blow up Manberg, but he’s leaving the final choice to Tubbo. Huh. That’s– kind of unexpected. 

He’s flattered, almost. Impressed, maybe. Surprised, definitely.

It all comes together at the festival itself, when Wilbur says that he’s just a yes-man. 

He's not just a yes-man, Tommy yells in response, and Tubbo almost wants to laugh, almost wants to choke. 

Because Prime Tommy, the sentiment is appreciated, but— Wilbur's right, finally, and it makes something in Tubbo's heart settle to know that Wilbur recognizes this, that Wilbur isn't quite so far gone as Schlatt is. The old Wilbur was sharp as an axe, would've noticed and called Tubbo out for managing him the moment Tubbo started doing so months ago. If Wilbur is calling him out now, well... maybe he's not as far gone as Tubbo feared. 

A yes-man for Schlatt, for Wilbur. That's all Tubbo feels he has been since the election went haywire. He’s just been saying yes and then doing otherwise, again and again, trying to keep both sides of this mess from imploding. 

But now it's time to make a choice. Time to stop playing both sides. 

He looks at Wilbur. He looks at Schlatt. 

He thinks of Big Q yelling at Schlatt, telling him not to be a goddamn idiot. He thinks of Tommy yelling at Wilbur, saying the same exact thing. He thinks of a man who fiercely guards his power from even his closest aides, and a man who wanted to know the truth about Manburg despite the fact it might undermine him, a man who then all but literally handed over the button to all those stacks of tnt. Wilbur made this Tubbo's call. He can't remember a time Schlatt made something his call without doubling the pressure and throwing in some horrifying catch-22. 

He thinks of the power that lies in his hands right now. He's the right hand man to the President, and he's looking the President dead in the eye while he stands on a stage in front of an entire nation; while his left hand is holding both the mic and the fate of his country. 

Schlatt can't be a mind reader, because if he was, he'd know how monumental of a moment just passed. Schlatt can't be in his mind, because if he was, he'd know the treason that Tubbo is considering, know that Tubbo is highly considering turning his back on this country forever— literally and metaphorically— when he runs away as it goes up in flames.

So he betrays Manburg. Truly, firmly, in a way he'll never be able to come back from. After all, his cover isn't the only thing in a hundred block radius that's about to be blown to shreds when Wilbur gets to the bomb. 

“Let the festival begin!”

Ah, shit. He wasn’t supposed to swear. There go his five stars.

But instead of looking offended, the corners of the man’s mouth quirk up. Mirth swirls in his eyes.

“Is that so?” he replies, leaning back with his hands placed in the pockets of his jeans, “isn’t that a drink geared more for children?”

Tommy’s eyebrow twitched. This right bastard – the audacity that this guy must have to insult hot chocolate of all the great many things. And even go as far as to say it was only for children! He put his hands on the counter edge and pushed his feet back, now leaning on his arms.

hi everyone! here are some reasons you should vote c!crimeboys (wilbur and tommy)

IMPORTANT INFO cause i keep seeing people get it wrong in the tags: THIS IS NOT RPF!! yes the real guys wilbur and tommy exist and yes sometimes people do write rpf of them, but the GREAT majority is about their roleplay characters who are separate from them! i understand it might be confusing, that's why we use c! (stands for character) before their name to make it clear we aren't talking about the real person who's a youtuber lmao

i know most of you will see the words "dream smp" and immediately click the opposite out of the spite and thats fair but please just understand that those guys have nothing to do with dream and most of their fans hate him too! just putting that out there cause i know that's a hold back for a lot of people

now for more lighthearted reasons Well you see c!crimeboys have an incredibly fucked up tragic story . they're brothers and they're codependent and they built a nation together and fought in wars and had each other's backs til the end when no one else did. they've been through SO much shit, wars and death(s) and struggle with mental health and they're still kicking! (we're ignoring ctommy who was canonically blown up that did not happen you don't need to hear about that).

but genuinely they explore such interesting topics around loyalty and to what degree it should be taken - you'd follow your older brother to the ends of the earth, but what do you with yourself when he dies and you realise you built so much of yourself around him? and when he's revived, how do you deal with both the loss you haven't recovered from and also with trying to rebuild something with him even though you've both changed and you're both severely traumatised? and when you're the older brother and you realise you're rotting in this place, do you leave your little brother and wish him the best to try one final time to be happy somewhere else?

they are also both transgender!!!! this is canon (/j)!!!! they told me personally!!!

the real guys wilbur and tommy are honestly the ones who really turned the dsmp from a regular minecraft server into an actual story and roleplay through these characters. and that has created a community that impacted so many people positively (yes i know some of the ccs are pieces of shit we are Aware trust me)

in addition vote for them if you like to see platonic relationships represented to an equal level as romantic relationships!! in fact more!! sbi (group of 4 characters/creators that crimeboys are a part of) was the top ao3 ship in i think 2021 and honestly as an arospec person it's really really cool to see platonic and familial relationships valued like that. if that's something you care about consider voting for these guys :)

that was my propaganda i don't have any high hopes we'll win this one but i would like it if we at least lose more honourably than like 10/90% lmao. now please take some of these images of them (the art is by sad-ist on youtube)

The dream smp should have ended when Dream was put in prison. Anything beyond that felt like it spiraled out of control and led to the ending we got.

I'm tired of seeing "here's what your favourite Minecraft youtuber/streamer says about you" on Tik Tok and then it continues listing Dream SMP members. Like yeah, they upload Minecraft related videos on YouTube and stream regularly, but bitch my favourite streamer is 5up and my favourite Minecraft youtubers are Grian and BDoubleO, if your knowledge on Minecraft youtubers is only limited to the Dream SMP PLEASE change that "mcyt" to "Dream SMP member".

Honestly not to be nostalgic and look at the past with rose tinted glasses but at least in 2014 we didn’t push content creators to the point of snapping over cancel culture. Can we go back to that? Can I put on my canon merch Merome shirt i got at like 14-15 and pretend we haven’t gone so far up purity culture’s ass that no one can make anything without risking severe psychological damage anymore? Like sure it wasn’t perfect back then a lot of creators did shitty things and it took ages for anything to come of it even after it being revealed, but I am exhausted with the fandom of today in a way I really never have before.  I want to live in an era of mctyer fandom where the most important thing was Ty’s Left Foot, not  an era about deep fakes of popular creators voices saying slurs. How has it come to this?

"coded"- used to say that something is implicitly or "between the lines" implied to be something else. a character that is "child coded" then would be a character that in universe is a canonical adult, but reads as a child due to appearance or behaviour. unfortunately this is usually used to harass people, because "if you ship these two characters you're supporting IRL incest because these characters have the same hair colour and are sibling coded, and the only reason you'd ship them is because you're an IRL incest-comitting person." sighhh

Destiel became canon when Castiel confessed his love only to immediately be sent to an in-universe super hell.

Good Omens, a show with currently two seasons, is top teir television, not gonna lie. The first season blew up in popularity, and the second season that dropped somewhat recently made all current fans cry. a third (final?) season is in the works.

a multiplayer minecraft roleplay series called "Dream SMP" blew up during the pandemic and the large fandom has made it the new homestuck of "oh fuck the fandom people are here eww cringe aaugh" Poppy Playtime, a horror game series, is massively popular despite being nowhere near finished

disney and pixar are failing to put out good movies now and sony is quickly giving them a run for their money with certified bangers (really good stuff).

Speaking of which, Puss In Boots 2 is the biggest fucking deal. Like, such a big deal. it sounds crazy but believe me.

Also, SPIDERVERSE. The first two films in a trilogy about Spiderman Miles Morales have been released and are....god, so good. They're basically the biggest movies in the world right now?? definitely watch those if you can.

There was a thing called Barbenhiemer where The Barbie Movie (a colorful semi-musical live action movie about barbie) and Oppenheimer (a gritty drama about the nucular bomb) were released at the same time and everyone inexplicably drew crossover fanart and saw them both back to back on the same day.

There's a new Avatar (the blue alien one set in pandora) movie.

Everything is "core" now, which...okay so basically you know how different "aesthetics" (things like colors, clothing styles, filters on photographs, movies, music, even places or hobbies) have certain vibes? like something might feel edgy or cozy? well now people are seperating those out into Aesthetics or Cores. I think the best way to understand this is to either use the aesthetic wiki or look up the big three- Cottagecore, Dark Academia, Kidcore- and browse each tag on it's own for a while to get a feeling for what they're talking about.

Will Wood (sometimes Will Wood And The Tapeworms), a Dark Cabaret music artist, became an icon for neurodivergent gays semi-against his will (he didn't want to be typecast as only music for one group of people) and is now deliberately releasing music that's outside of his usual style now and then to try and break association.

There's also been a lot of violence, war (both civil and normal war), and transphobia going on, but a quick glance at the news should tell you that,,,

AI art, photos, chatbots, videos, etc are here and sometimes convincing enough to end up on the actual news, and companies and movie studios are starting to use it to do the creative work for them instead of paying real people. there's been writers' strikes over this. these AI are also stealing samples from the web without permission- fanfic sites like ao3, tumblr artist blogs, etc all being scanned and condensed as data for the machine. This is generally considered theft among artists, because we didn't give permission for our creative works to be stolen, and it's very upsetting overall!!!!!

I feel like people need to remember to have manners and let CCs do other things that isn’t Dream SMP

There’s a reason people don’t do this, and it’s cause it’s basic courtesy. People are not just one note, they do other things, AND WE SHOULD LET THEM DO OTHER THINGS. It’s ok, if you only want to watch Dream SMP stuff! But don’t go be annoying in chat about it, if the content isn’t what you want, don’t consume it. If you’re just going to be in chat just to complain, why are you even here? If you don’t like being here, then leave and wait until the next lore thing happens. I get we’re excited especially since big lore might be happening soon but please don’t be assholes to CCs and let them do what they want to do.

that post about the theoretical bad netflix adaption of dream smp is literally just hbo spn in reverse and it’s absolutely hilarious to me

that’s a pretty niche experience though so let me explain - I’m also in the supernatural fandom, and a common hobby of spn blogs is to create ‘hbo spn’ aka ‘the alternate good version of supernatural that lives in our heads’ as a way to collect the parts of the show that are actually good and separate them from the corporate controlled, racist homophobic sexist everything else -ist mess that is Real Supernatural. this hobby has surged in popularity since the end of the show and even has its own blog dedicated to collecting different fans’ headcanons and theories about what this version of the show would contain. meanwhile in dsmp people are, just for fun, actively coming up with a worse alternate version of our show where a big company like netflix calls the shots, flattening our multifaceted characters and erasing our lgbtq+ representation in favor of straight love triangles and villiainizing mental health struggles and whitewashing characters and unnecessarily sexualizing things and etc etc. obviously it’s just for shits and giggles, but part of why we explore these avenues is because this is what we know our tptb would never ever do - I think it says a lot about the differences with which both fanbases interact with their source material and how, for better or for worse, supernatural fans are utterly disillusioned with and fed up with our tptb while dsmp fans are by contrast wholeheartedly in love with and have faith in our tptb.

A03 and the SMP Problem

If you've been a fan of any major SMP for the past however long, you may've noticed that we've got something of a problem on A03. For reasons unknown to me, SMPs are constantly categorized as Video Blogging RPF. Characters on the SMP are forced to share a tag with their content creators and be listed as RPF even when that isn't accurate and makes tagging complicated. Worse, if a content creator plays more than one character, both characters are merged into the cc tag. Which is incredibly confusing, and hard to follow tags for.

In the past, I've contacted A03, and gotten this reply:

Thank you for writing in about Dream SMP. We are currently reviewing the Dream SMP situation and having discussions about creating a Dream SMP fandom tag. The tag wranglers will look into other servers of similar types in the future. If an SMP is canonized, all fandom tags that clearly reference the server will be moved over to the new canonical tag. There are a number of issues we need to work through before we can do so, including ensuring that users are aware the tag is for Dream SMP members, not for other Minecraft streamers. While we can't promise that all the issues can be resolved, please do know that we are doing our best to resolve them.

Now, I was hopeful when I got this message back in November that changes would follow. However, we are now at well over 5 months past, and there's still no changes for any tags. Tags keep getting wrangled and forced into categorizations.

A03 is a fandom space, it is supposed to be by fans for fans, and it's ridiculous that a huge chunk of fandoms, including Dream SMP, Hermitcraft, Last Life, Empires, and more are forced into RPF tags that aren't remotely accurate or reflective of the works. It sucks for the people writing about the SMP, and it sucks for the people writing actual RPF. Series like Critical Role or The Adventure Zone don't have their actors listed, so why should SMPs be forced into the RPF tags?

Thusly, I would like to propose a coordinated campaign to put pressure onto A03 to create proper fandom tags for SMPs, separate from RPF tags, and with separated tags for characters and content creators. I think that a show of support for this change would help demonstrate how many people are currently being effect, and that this isn't something that can just get brushed off. They need to see how many fans are actively upset about this failure of tagging. At the very least, we deserve a public statement with what's going on and the timeline for fixing this problem.

If you're interested in participating in this campaign, my proposed dates are May 1st - May 7th.

During this period, people can, and should:

Send polite, constructive, messages to A03 support requesting:

Separate tags for SMPs and RPF, for fandom and for characters.

Separate tags for characters on SMPs, with character tags only using usernames/character names, not the names of content creators.

Separate tags for distinct characters played by the same content creators.

Reblog and create posts discussing this issue on social media. Encourage your followers on different platforms to reach out to A03 and ask them to fix the mistagging. You can use the tag #SMPsNeedTagsToo on any platform to help spread the word.

Within this tag, it would also be lovely if lists of SMPs that need this change could be created, as well as a list of characters + other tags that will need to be split from the RPF tags. These lists could also be sent to A03 to make the process of splitting easier.

If you are already planning to post a chapter or fic on A03 during this period, consider including an author's note encouraging your readers to reach out to A03.

Remember to remain polite! This is not a harassment campaign, A03 is an amazing website, and the point of this is to call attention to the issue and improve the website we love. Not drag it down.

Equally, please do not be nasty or judgemental towards RPF readers/writers. We're not trying to shame anyone for what they're reading or writing, we just want to have proper categorization so people can post their works correctly!
