hi. I have thoughts on wxs symbolism.
So this doesn't come as much of a shock re: the recent event but I'm definitely not the first person to delve into word choice in project sekai, and hindsight is always 20/20 anyway. the entire thing revolves around the conclusion to the event that just came out so it's kind of a spoiler so I'll put it under a readmore.
so like. as we learned in this recent event, the kids are okay. like. they're not getting separated they decided to become a freelance group after all this impending threat and dread of disbandment.
anyway id like to bring the attention to nene and the singing things she has often been associated with. Two things, really; mermaids and canaries.
mermaid obviously comes from Nene's attachment to the little mermaid, which in itself is not dissimilar from wondershow's story- in the same ballpark as the theme of "wanting something that you can't have/can't keep" (and it's also originally a queer story but we don't talk about that) but also in that mermaids were derived from sirens, which are notoriously evil- singing beautifully about your greatest desires only to lure you to a watery grave. Of course the allegory here is visible- all of these kids joined this group because they had a goal and this group would help them attain it. It was in mermaid admiration when the looming threat of disbandment was first introduced- also the same event we learn about Nene's infatuation with the story and the start of her being compared to a mermaid. They're starting to recognize the siren's song for what it is, if you will- something that will lead to dismay, at some point. But why stop sailing? They have a goal to get to, after all.
The shift to canary metaphors is purposely made subtle, I think- you know until it isn't. The first time we see it is in Nene's 3★ card from the second half anniversary event, "to get closer to the canary", where she appears to be watching a video of Yuuka. It's a 3★ so its name isn't really broadcasted anywhere like the featured cards, but it's important to note, and i think they did that for some sense of subtlety.
It's specifically the word for canary used, no other songbird, so it clearly means something- canary in the coalmine is what's most often associated with canaries. When the canary drops it's bad and time to evacuate. In a way, if that card name is referencing yuuka, they're comparing yuuka to the canary in the coalmine- the one that alerted them about the fact they were going to have to split up someday. Then we got the event name "canary sings in a quagmire". Insert every quagmire toilet family guy joke here. Anyway a quagmire refers to a bog or any kind of surface similar to that that gives way under foot- but it's also just used metaphorically to mean a complex situation (a sticky situation, if you will. you know. like mud . like a bog. like a quagmire. im so funny.) The canary sings in the quagmire. The canary continues to sing in tbe awkward situation- do you see my vision here? The canary is still singing. It hasn't keeled over- they're going to be okay, they always were going to be, because it was never a siren singing in the middle of the ocean preparing them for what could very well have been one of the worst experiences of their lives, it was the canary that still sang at the hazardous quagmire near the water. They're going to struggle but they will pull through, because the canary will keep singing.

A very unpopular opinion and I feel horrible for saying this, but i wish it would be a documentary way more than a tour....
anon i get you. between the two options, i was rooting for a documentary too!
they've never done it before. they did make the tatinof documentary but that was obviously different from what we were envisioning for the phagenda, which was a sort of retrospective director's cut + commentary thing spanning their whole careers. this might be the direction they're taking with the tour content, ofc! it's just that the documentary format for content like that would've been something we haven't seen before
a documentary would have been more accessible. half the joy i get out of being a dnp fan in this era is the online community we have here. my enjoyment of their content is hugely owing to everybody's posts and memes and metas and gifs and video edits etc. tour tickets can be expensive, and sometimes they don't come to someone's country, and it necessarily limits the number of people who get to experience it as it's happening. (maybe this is me being sad because idk if i can go yet, either! lmao so i'm not an unbiased opinion here.) but i feel like there's so much joy to be had by consuming something together at the same time and being able to talk about it, which you can't do (that well) with a tour
but again, don't get me wrong, a tour is very exciting, and even if some of us can't go, we can always get excited about the things that come with a tour, like dapg vids on tour and instastories etc.!
let's not forget though that they have said that they're cooking multiple things...... so who knows what else they have up their sleeves

Drew this- uhh... Idk, at least a couple months ago at this point. The context is kind of hard to explain here. Or maybe it isn't.
I guess all you really need to know is that it's Macaque (from Lego Monkie Kid), Bai He (LBD's host from LMK), and Tommy as skycats.

gonna get REAL snippy about some disk horse tonight: i am real fuckin' fed up of seeing everyone who felt impacted by the idea that astarion might be asexual or aspec in some way feel like they have to qualify their interpretation of a canonically sex-repulsed character openly discussing that sex repulsion in a way that is very resonant for a lot of asexual people. i am really fucking tired of the fact that everyone talking about astarion maybe even possibly being some variety of aspec feels COWED into couching it in "it's just a headcanon, it's just something that felt important to me personally! i'm not saying anyone else has to agree, it's just that it resonated for me."
i get not wanting to impose your reading of the text on other people—there are a fuckton of posts floating around about how that's a shitty thing to do and how x read isn't any more canon than y read and people who insist x IS more canon than y are jerks. and i don't disagree! people who insist there's One Canon in a choice-centric RPG are fucking dicks.
but i was also here in 2014, at the peak of exclusionist discourse, when every single time someone said "it's not that i have a problem with asexual people, i just wish they weren't taking up the resources meant for [REAL gay people/rape survivors/people dealing with comphet/etc]." what they actually meant was "I will not be satisfied until you shut the fuck up and never talk about your experiences in a place where i have to hear about it again". and it fucking worked; people recloseted themselves, blogs centered on the aspec community deactivated, real life organizations stopped explicitly including asexuality in their documentation when they had the previous year. for a solid three years, the only time any "big name blogs" mentioned asexuality was to make a joke out of it. i watched this shit happen with my own two eyes.
i don't have a problem with people who disagree with my reading of a character as asexual. i don't have a problem with allosexual people who say "this same thing resonated with me too, just in a different way" and move the fuck on. what i do have a problem with is the implicit vibe that comes up any time asexual and aspec people decide to talk about their experiences and things that resonated with them that we shouldn't take up too much space when we talk about that, because there are other people who don't feel that way and their interpretations deserve to be heard too.
i have not seen a single person on the acestarion train saying "you HAVE to think of him as asexual." i have seen multiple comments saying people who do see him as asexual are delusional or reaching, or that it's insulting—to whatever other identity—to read asexuality into his sex-repulsion. and i am really fucking annoyed [not at all surprised, but annoyed nonetheless!] that not only does the compassion for different takes not go both ways, but that people discussing their resonance with astarion from an asexual/aspec perspective are instinctually or habitually ceding ground by couching it in "you don't have to agree!" kind of statements, when that should be the fucking baseline for every single conversation about any characterization choice in, AGAIN, AN RPG BASED ON INDIVIDUAL CHOICE.
and i don't have any way to express this to the people that i actually have an issue with, because, again: asexual people relating to a character that's not explicitly stated to be asexual is treated as a joke at best and an attack on other identities at worst. but at this point, to me, calling a reading of astarion as asexual/aspec a "headcanon" is minimizing what it actually is: an interpretation of the text, supported by both dialogue and action[s], that is not monolithic but is no less "canonical" and/or rooted-in-the-text-itself than many, many other readings of his characterization, intended by the character's creator[s] or no. you're not going to catch me apologizing for how i read the character and how his dialogue resonated with me. and i don't think anyone else should feel like they have to apologize for it either.

I actually do like the trailer as a "meet the gang" trailer, I think it's fun and quirky in a good way. But it never should have been the launch trailer, and it was a massive marketing screw up to make it one

I broadly think the majority of content you find in "X critical" tags tends to be a bit. Uh. Garbage in terms of legit media criticism, but I cannot overstate their importance in terms of being easily filterable for people who actually like X, and idk if it's the recent migrations from other social media platforms or (more likely) if I'm just having an off week and reading into things too much but like. Can we keep it going/bring it back??? If I have to see one more post about how ppl hate a certain thing in that certain things tag (where fans congregate to find content of the thing), with no filterable critical tag. I might actually kill ppl
#ramblings of a lunatic#the owl house#yeah. yeah#i should stop going into the maintag BUT SOMETIMES IT'S GOOD IN THERE MAN!!#and i don't follow as many toh ppl#so sometimes i gotta go into the tag to find things i really like!#i wish i just didn't have to see more than one post dunking on a piece of media i like there like. that's not what it's for#even if you're tagging it for your own blog organization that's not stopping you from putting a critical tag so ppl can filter it#it'd just make everyones lives easier man#especially the ppl posting the critical content!#bc they tend to get messages and replies from fans who disagree with them (bc again.. they're in the wrong space)#and then decide that this means the fans are toxic (maybe but you've got a bad sample size and no control group)#idk man i just. I'm doing everything right on my part! blocking ppl and filtering tags#but some ppl just don't want to follow the social contract of online spaces and I'm normal about that#tbh I'm also just really tired today. I've been hand painting a chessboard and chess set (w/ help! it's been fun-#-but also i was there from noon to 5pm. it was actually probably closer to 6 hours in total cause of work done afterwards)#(point being I'm tired. I'm sleepy. I'm kinda cranky and i wanna be silly in peace for five minutes)#(i know we all joke about the insularity of our dashes and mutuals but. it does make me a bit sad-#-fan spaces don't have to be this insular to be peaceful. it could be better)

Low-key considering if I should share my digireborn/digirejuv AU here... It's not much tbh, really barebones when it comes to setting and worldbuilding. And a lot of it is based on an existing digirejuv AU posted by a fellow blogger here.
So... Yeah.

i should not be so frustrated by people portraying Anthea as questioning the morality of Pokémon battles, that's Team Plasma's whole thing and also what the anime did with her so it's not totally unreasonable to assume she'd think like that, but...she has four lines of in-game dialogue and literally half of them are talking about why battling is a good thing,,,,,
