Look, I love Skizz. We all love Skizz. If you don't love Skizz don't talk to me you're wrong.

We love Skizz because of his professional clownery, unending optimism, INCREDIBLY sharp personal assessment skills (and dismal environmental observational ones) and his amazing ability to fit wherever he needs to improve what's happening around him. Hype man, wing man, leader, dad mode, you name it Skizz can do it.

So I am holding your hands and looking directly into your eyes when I say this.

Someday, that man will by plot necessity snap.

And there is not a single soul alive prepared for the Skizzleman Villain Arc.

It won't happen in Wild Life. It won't happen in season 10. But someday. Sometime. The switch will flip.

And when it does, oh brother. I hope I'm watching that stream.

The first time Gem sees Skizz's feathers properly is in the warehouse- what Impulse calls the base- on an early autumn afternoon. They don't have an active case but there's a backlog of paperwork that needs to be filed, so Gem had volunteered for the job. Grian and Impulse are on a store run to fill the fridge and Skizz is- doing chin-ups at the small gym in the far corner.

If Skizz were any other kind of man, and Gem were any other kind of woman, she'd wonder if he was using the exercise to flirt. But she's gay and it's Skizz. She knows he's just trying to burn off energy.

Skizz can't sit still on a good day. He is always doing something- beating out a rhythm on his knee, flipping a pencil or a poker chip, humming. If he was human Gem would cheerfully accuse him of ADHD, it happens sometimes, you know, adults can go undiagnosed for years.

Only Skizz isn't human.

So maybe angels can have ADHD, too.

Gem happens to glance up as Skizz makes one of his Skizz noises on the slow drop. The sun is filtering in through the upper windows and she must make a noise close enough to alarm because Skizz drops immediately to the mat and turns to her, blue eyes concerned.

"Gemmy?" he asks. "You okay?"

"I- your arms."

It's all she can think to say. Skizz is wearing a black tank top and as the sun slants onto him, it lights up golden lines that lurk just beneath his skin, showing imprints of feathers. Thousands of feathers, tiny and fine, like tattoos done in yellow chrome.

He looks down, laughs. "Oh. Yeah. Kinda freaky, huh?"

"Are they..all over?" She asks cautiously. She and Grian still aren't sure how to approach this aspect of their employers. No one has even mouthed the word 'angel' in Skizz's presence. She hasn't yet gotten the nerve up to ask Impulse about his black and scaly arm, which has not been black and scaly since that first disastrous case.

"Ah, no. Across my back and arms, mostly. You know, the best place for 'em to lay flat. Watch."

He bunches his bicep and Gem can see the feathers shift and move.

"Wow. Does that feel weird?" It must. It has to. There's no way it doesn't.

Skizz shrugs and grabs his towel off the weight bench. "No. I mean I guess if I wasn't used to it it would."

"Huh. Can you..get one out?"

"I mean I can get them all out," Skizz says.

"I know but. Like just one. Like digging out a splinter." The idea both repulses and fascinates Gem.

"I mean probably?" Skizz looks thoughtful, then a little mischievous. "Wanna try it?"

"No," Gem says quickly and at his frown she says, "I would probably hurt. I don't want you to hurt, Skizz."

"Oh," he says, like that never even occurred to him. He smiles at her. "Thanks, Gem. You almost done?"

"I, uh, have a couple more to file, but then I'll be all set. Why?"

"I'm thinking we order thai tonight and let Grian sulk."

Gem giggles. "He does sulk so gloriously, doesn't he?"

"Ten out of ten best sulk, and I've been around the block, missy," Skizz says, which just makes Gem laugh harder. She finishes her work and Skizz takes a quick shower. By the time the sun has sunk, they've made their order, sent the warning text to Impulse, and you can barely see Skizz's feathers at all.
