Oh this reminds me of the movie Short Time! A police officer who has always played it safe is about to retire when he gets the (wrong) diagnosis that he will soon die of an illness. He also finds out that for his life insurance to work he has to die in the line of duty! So he now only has a few days to take as many crazy risks as possible while fighting crime, 100% determine to die in the process, but he keeps failing and everyone lauds him as a hero and he gets medal after medal as he just gets grumpier and grumpier because this is NOT what he wanted to achieve.

Atoner-type character who, through a series of increasingly unlikely coincidences, keeps surviving their grandiose self-sacrificial schemes. Everybody thinks they're a tactical genius, but no, they really didn't plan on living through that, and at this point it's kind of freaking them out.

They were not a couple so, Jayce (who had a very bad day and just wanted to hug it out) proceeded to freak out, backed out of the lab and never mentioned it again but, Astral Viktor, that mf ? He'd be delighted to remind Jayce of that moment in time, of that missed call and watch him die from embarrassment and resentment over himself
