Alright folks, here’s one of the reasons I’ve been so quiet for the past month. Iris Adornments & Apothecary got a bit of refreshing! Mitchell and I spent a week and a half at Sherwood Forest Faire demoing, prepping, and rebuilding the roof. For the rebuild, we were joined by our amazing friends Robert and Tory, who did so much in just a day and a half. Not only do we have a fresh new roof, our changing space is now larger, plus brand new lighting to see better within the shop! Our updates aren’t finished, but the biggest part that’s been stressing me out for three years is DONE! 44 Bikes Metal Shop // - Phase 1 of the 44HQ Metal Shop Redux is complete. New metal roof is 99% done. I need to remove the board and battens this spring on the facing side of the shop to finish adding underlayment, begin wrapping the structure in Tyvec home wrap, adding a layer of insulation to the foundation, build boxes along the rake of the roof line and add fascia boards along with a few details. Then put it all together again with some new board and batten here and there so things look more “finished”. My roofer will return and add some end caps to finish the roof off. Then stain the shop a deep chocolate with cream trim (no more green detailing). But for now, she’s got a new dandy blue roof. - Bonus critter crash landing pictures too. Done!!! Pretty stoked, I think it’s a major improvement to my shop overall. I’ve been doing other small improvements lately too, just organizing and moving things around to improve workflow. It really helps. All of these improvements were sparked (pun intended) by my class @newagrarianschool last summer. Working with true professionals @__redmetal__ and Jeffry Funk (school founder) at the most well equipped and beautiful shop I have ever seen inspired me immensely and had a profound impact on the way I do and think about my work. This forge is based on Jeffrey’s design and he was so helpful answering my myriad of questions throughout the build.
