About last night's post on superhero as collective multimedium creations:

I started to think about it when remembering I once saw a scene of a random teen show where the conversation went like this:

A teen girl was saying:

"Even though you disagree with the landscape of modern comic book movies, at least they are getting more people to read the original source material."

And leading teen guy was like:

"I still can't believe you read comic books, I mean you're a girl."

Besides the scene being an example of bullshit Not Like Other Girls sexism dated from the 2000s, when I thinked about it and then remembered what I recently learned along some of my friends on Superhero Characters and Media, that made me think:

"But WHAT original source material? A lot of creators and artists were adding different elements to these characters at the SAME TIME since inception!"

Like, if you really want to go back to source materials, you could say to people:

"Hey, check out the origin of Harley Quinn in Batman the Animated Series, or how Superman first flied in the sky in the Fleischer cartoons and radio series."

Which really works to show that gatekeeping in fandom doesn't make a lick of sense!

That night, when Static goes to the hospital to check on Ferret, he encounters Batman and Robin there to his surprise. Because Static didn't know this episode's title was "The Big Leagues".

A flustered Static greets Robin, who's friendly but is starting to assert he's outgrowing the 'boy wonder' nickname. "The Big Leagues" is as much about Static encountering superheroes for the first time, especially given the legendary status in and out of universe that Batman and Robin have.

Batman gives Ferret an antidote to help recover from the Joker gas.

At Batman's nudging, Robin takes point in examining Ferret's shoes and making deductions. Static is starting to feel unsure, although I think he's not quite seeing that Robin has a mentor in superheroics whereas Static only has Ritchie.

This framing does a great job highlighting how small Static feels in comparison to Batman. I know Static Shock is a kids' cartoon, but moments like this make it clear that the animators put a lot of care and thought into this show.

In any case, Batman is dubious that Static could be helpful before he grapples out the window. Before following his mentor, Robin reassures Static that it wasn't an outright no.

The trio goes back to the alley where Ferret disappeared from. They go down a manhole into the sewer system.

As they walk along, Static gets a call from his pops which leads him to have to depart right after the trio acknowledges that with the sewer leading out to an industrial area, they have no current way to locate the Joker and his gang.

Batman uses a gizmo to call the Batplane down from the clouds and begrudgingly gives Static a different gizmo in case Static finds a clue. As he flies home, Static grouses to himself about how he must seem so childish in comparison (not in those words but that's the jist of it). Unfortunately, he doesn't notice that Talon noticed him.

Back in an abandoned warehouse, the three male teens are working on the fire truck rig. Kangor and Hotstreak nearly come to blows but Shiv intervenes. Up in his office, the Joker is furious upon being told that Batman is present but quickly rallies upon Shiv noting that Batman doesn't know that they know he's here. Side note, Harley Quinn's framed photograph does appear but she otherwise has no influence on the plot.

Random E2 rant

So is it me or has there been a sudden influx in female characters getting typed as E2. Sure I do think that there are some characters that were mistyped.

Ex- Daenerys being typed as Sx1 being an Soc 2, Mistao Katsuragi typed as an Sx 7 being an Sx 2 and Maddy Perez being typed as an Sp7 being an Sx2. 

However is it me or is it getting a bit out of hand now? like maybe its me reaching here but isnt there like a bit of a weird undertone considering its only been female characters getting this treatment. This are the charcaters I've noticed��

top 5 fictional characters of all time? ♡

Jimmy McGill. He is such a good example of coping with trauma through dissociating and splintering parts of your personality and just hiding in them because you would rather listen to your god-dad-brother about you can't change and there's no point so why try. And he's lovely and wifeguy and has hope that he'll have peace in his older years but also childish and self absorbed and petty and he's my boy.

Amma Crellin. If I loved her less I might be able to talk about it more. She's like the centre of everything I get excited about, a victim and abuser and tragic and terrible all at once. Also I think being girlfriends with Camille might fix her, because nothing else is going to.

Dennis Reynolds. I've been thinking about other sitcoms lately, the casanova archetype who pervs on all his female friends and weirdly commonly had some taken advantage of moment by an older woman, but it's funny and endearing and charming. With Dennis it's like... it's over, the poison has eroded all of him and he's going to spread the misery. Oh and he's in love with his sister and the feeling is mutual.

Shiv Roy. She's awful, she's babygirl, she wants to dom, she wants to be protected by her father - be the daddy's girl everyone assumes she is, she'll back away when she's hit but will ask you to dinner, she's her mother, she'll mother her brothers, she's ruthless like her dad but has too much compassion to win like he does, she wears slightly inappropriate dresses for the setting, she wears heels but hates them.

Harley Quinn. Literally got me into comics. She's so part of my personality at this point I can't even wax about her.
