On to something more productive: I made a forum for fellow friends of eggbug.

My forum years were not without their drama but in some ways they were still vastly more genuine communities than I ever managed on social media, so ... in a fit of pique over the weekend, I made AfterChost, a forum for former chosties.

now. ppl will use cohost differently obvs but i'm screening out the porn for the moment. you find a lot of interesting gems. platform-specific shitposts. lovely artwork.

now it's not anywhere near to the scale of tumblr. it isn't an endless content fountain. some tags/pages have been abandoned for months.

but others update hour-by-hour

users, wanting to find each other, have created and then spread by word of mouth the concept of global tags.

a post is a "chost" and shitposts are "shitchosts" - "The Cohost Global Feed" is often clogged with people just. tagging any post they make as it. but sometimes genuinely funny or interesting things are there

I mean it the shitposting (shitchosting) is legendary. You know how people opine about the night on tumblr when you could put code in posts to totally fuck up the dash. Yeah recently cohost users realized you could put fixed screen-covering css elements into posts and so the timeline could look like this if you had the right posts on it

No I didn't blur this afterwards there was a shitpost whose joke was that it takes your glasses off and blurs the whole tab. It's a good site guys

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by how much I'm using cohost and how much I'm enjoying my time there. I can't even actually post yet (I can share posts tho), but just exploring tags and following people and getting a sense of the vibes has been really cool. Very slow and laid-back atmosphere that feels like a combination of tumblr and old forums. The amount and style of longposting people often do reminds me a lot of like, early 2010s tumblr, but there's also thoroughly modern shitposts. People are using the CSS flexibility for awesome stuff too--shitposts obviously, easily the most creative shitposting ive ever seen, but also I've seen artists doing some great stuff too. As I use it I keep thinking about friends or tumblr users that I'm sure would have a great time there, either ppl that I know prefer slower online social spaces or just, like, all the transgender furries I follow on here lmao (cohost is mostly transgender furries) (this was something I expected and appreciate)

I'm hoping that more and more people use the site for cool stuff and it just gets better. And I look forward to actually being able to post, lol. If you've got even a smidgen of interest I recommend signing up now since it can take a week or more to get through the activation queue. Like I said, I don't particularly mind this since there's cool stuff on the site to look at in the meantime, and there's a wide understanding of what it's like to be stuck in activation queue purgatory--I've already made mutuals just by following cool people and sharing posts. And tbh a mandatory lurking period doesn't hurt anyone, just adds even more to the oldschool vibe! Gotta look around and learn the culture before you post!
