Hello bugs I’m here to RANT about !! DIRKJOHN !! Sooo yeah :D

[This is my own personal self-indulgent way that I see them, if you see them Having a different dynamic, that’s Perfectly fine! Just be polite if you Want to share :^)]

1: I feel like they would have a less lovey-dovey dynamic. John is a casual person, and Dirk tends to be reserved, especially when it comes to deep feelings within himself that I’m sure things like strong romantic love would include!

This does not mean they love each other any less though, and I like to think overtime they would grow to be more comfortable. But for a good while, the two would likely just keep most of their affections in private, or to a minimum in public.

I feel like something that would come from this is a point where John wants to be more open about their relationship, but Dirk is scared how people will see him for it (because frankly, he is constantly concerned with how everyone sees him, no matter how good he is at hiding it.) It turns into an argument, and Dirk talks to an outside source and realizes some things about himself before going back to John to talk it out



2: Dirk is very self conscious, I mean for Christs sake, he created a whole persona to just seem COOL and sooo nonchalant about literally everything. I mean it’s not like his entire personality is fake, but I would say a lot of his nonchalant-ness in reality is a lot of just suppressing emotions, and in the long run, failing effort to feel more confident.

I feel like he would be conscious about some of it, but unconsciously, a part of him always wanted to be the hero he looked up to all of his life, yet never met. And like shown, even when he did try his hardest, he failed.

A lot of people try to seem cooler, but aren’t all that convincing. The thing is that Dirk can be VERY convincing, though the consequences is still there nonetheless, the moment his persona starts breaking people will think something is wrong with him. So regardless of how much energy he has, he hast to keep it up, has to keep going. I think that would be very tiring :(

Though, after meeting John (properly lolol) I feel like some part of him would look up to John in some odd way. Here was a person who was, in his eyes, truly confident. For the most part, no one really disliked John! Matter of factly, most people actually liked him, and if not liked, usually were neutral.

Dirk wondered what it felt like, to feel so free with yourself. To not have a constant burden on your own heart of what others are thinking of you, achievements to live up to, idealistic ideas carved into your brain by your own conscious, thinking what you “should be.” In a way, Dirk saw John as perfect, kinda in the way that you stare at a celebrity.

Of course, he would eventually learn that John wasn’t some idealistic perfect human being, but he always did consider how admirable it was that John could be so carefree about most of life. It made Dirk feel like he could calm down, relax, even if just for a while.
