Your dainty hands began to type down the last page of revision for your boss, carefully looking at the corner of the monitor as a small '20:38' was trying its best to remind you of the due; hoping you can submit your work last minute before the deadline in less than half an hour.
As if your body received another injection of adrenaline and caffeine from a sip of this god-awful coffee, cursing at anyone who gave you this before submitting your finished paper and clocking out right away; cursing at your boss inside your head before realised how free you were now since tomorrow would be your last week as their (underpaid and overworked) intern.
"Lola, Lola, hmm,"
You hummed along the way back to the apartment, holding your bag tightly in your hand as you could see how crowded it was; numerous people flocking around to hold each other close while you had decided that spending another night of reading Bloomic's latest chapter might be a best go-to.
After a refreshing shower and a can of cold drink in your hand, no one could stop you from reading your only coping mechanism to postpone the upcoming dread of existential crisis you shall face one day; well, 'or so' you thought.
As you decided to take a break and looked around for cute ships on Twitter, a post caught you surprised since it was your first time reading it ever.
"Huh? A discord server for Bloomic?"
As if you were in trance, your finger began to hover around to click the link and there you were, inside the server as Bloombot barged you around with a few questions then let you go to the wild '#general' with some unread messages related and directed to you.
"Oh, wow, what is this,"
You muttered under your breath, standing up from your position to turn your PC on and drinking down the rest of your drink; fingers hovering over the keyboard as your eyes were trained to reach each message carefully by greeting each one of them personally, thinking it'd be the best instead of being vague and whisk around nowhere.
Your eyes lit up at a comment this one account made, claiming you could call him Xyx as each one of them began to introduce themselves including the mod aka Quest; a sweetman who reminded you of warm cinnamon roll and spiced latte in the late autumn.
"'wanna call?' man, this mod is friendly for sure."
You agreed to his invitation since some members were busy with their own stuff on other channels or going idle for a moment to sort life out in real life.
Clicking on the voice channel, you tried to find your headphones for a bit before going back to connect it with your PC; not realising that your camera was on this whole time and Quest's cheeks were in fire when he got a good look of your appearance.
Sitting inside a modern chic room with few decorations, he could see a young woman wearing a flimsy sleeping dress as her hair was draped over her shoulders; looking around for something nearby her desk before going back to the call and made contact with his eyes.
"Oh, hi!"
He smiled, reaching his ears while his arm was seen resting on top of the table; giving you a view of a tattoo covering his limb before you returned the smile, giving him a slight wave before disconnecting your headphones and taking it off from your head, feeling pissed as the lack of sound it provided.
Quest began to introduce himself, looking away once in a while as he explained how the server worked and expected how everyone would act from now on, stating the Bloombot could get confusing for him sometimes to control around.
"Thank you for looking after all of us, Quest. I feel so happy that you're here with me."
A small and appreciative sentence that rolled over your tongue smoothly, almost giving Quest a small heart attack if it wasn't for his hand gripping on his desk; trying his best to calm his heart beat and dizzy head, almost getting drunk from all those praise you threw at.
"God, angel. If it's for you, I'd for sure throw everything away and run straight to you."
You listened to him carefully as your cheeks were heated up, almost gaping at his words; hoping that he'd stop striking you away with these comments before you could actually start to combust due to him.
As he looked at your face through the screen, he made a hope for once after a while. A hope to see you in real life, gazing into his eyes and threading his fingers between yours — away from his boss, coworkers and Bloombot, that always goes hard with its censorship.
"Well then, angel. I suppose I should call it a night now, you look tired. Can't have you sleeping on me, yes?"
A deep chuckle escaped from his lips, making you break the eye contact and look away to suppress your embarrassment; wondering if the call was supposed to be like this or you were overthinking over such a small nickname.
The night finally had its grasp around you and lulled you to a state Quest finding you look cutest for tonight.
Your head was resting against your arm on the desk, looking up to see him with your half-lidded eyes and pursed lips; trying to fight the spell moon had cast over you.
"Sleep well, angel. Have a good one for me, yes?"
"Hey, intern, we need you here! Come fast!"
Your black pumps stumped against the concrete floor almost hurriedly, giving you a cramp since today had been quite hectic and a worker had asked you to cover her shift for today since she had an emergency issues at home.
You went forward and back, running around the office with fresh prints every minute and placing it on everyone's cubicle; double take each of them to make sure none was left out and let out a sigh as it was finally lunch hour, a time for you to take a deep breath and give your poor calves a massage.
Sitting at the cafeteria, you watched a long line of workers and decided to take some time to sip on iced milk tea with boba and cream on the top; understanding how good it was and perfect for Lola's exhausting life, running around and facing life-changing moments on almost every chapter.
"Angel?"
You looked up and met a pair of brilliant blue eyes staring back at your eyes, not expecting to find him out of everyone to meet you at the cafeteria here. As if he was asking for permission to sit down with you with those eyes, you gave him a nod before holding out your hands to take the tray from his hand, placing it on the table as he sat down in front of you.
"Um, hi."
You flashed him a small smile, eyes' corners slightly crinkled with some sweat beads went past over it. He looked down for a minute, not returning your smile right away like last night and instead taking out a handkerchief, dabbing it over your forehead.
"Sorry, you look tired and I— I can't, y'know,"
He stuttered over his words, eliciting a warm laugh from you as you wrapped your hands around his wrist and putting it down gently before sending him another shockwave in his lane with a small 'thank you'.
Apparently, Quest had been working here for a while (preferably almost five to six years) at the marketing section as a salesman and almost rarely leaving his cubicle, enjoying most of his time inside including during lunch time due to endless works.
You could see he tried to muster it up and play it off as a small joke, but the darkening circles under his eyes and fine lines around them couldn't fool you. Quest was for sure tired and never got enough rest after he started to work here, barely hanging on the thread.
"Can you work on them home, Quest?"
"Yeah, but, I'd rather not, you know?"
"How about going to my place tonight? I'll help you out."
Quest might have started to call you 'angel' because your eyes always glowed in his eyes and whenever he listened to your voice, it felt as if, everything was worth it and he's willing to stay up late at night and finish all his works before eight so he could have you all for himself until time for him to clock out.
But, this?
It took him aback and he was basically a stranger, one that you could always walk past and forget in a week; but, why would you offer him such a suggestion? Working here was already tired enough and he would feel bad for taking up so much of your free time at home.
Alas, here both of you were, spending time with you after finishing his total workload until next week in less than eight hours; pushing each other's capabilities until it reached its limit before Quest slumped down in his seat while you were half-asleep against the bed, letting out a small giggle when you got caught red-handed staring at him.
"You look tired, angel. C'mere,"
He spread his legs open and put a hand on his right thigh before realising what he was doing, straightening his back with panic written all over his face. As you walked in his direction, you put your hand over his chest, trying to calm him down before sitting on his lap — resting your cheek against his left chest as your legs were over his right leg, smiling slightly when his hands began to massage them gently.
While it wasn't supposed to be a shock for you, having Quest to be in your real life was still a surprise. He was tall and bulky with broad shoulders, yet the way he talked and brought himself reminded you of a small raccoon after getting a food.
"Ah, yes, Quest, right there"
You moaned close to his ear, noticing your feet were feeling better than before since you took off those pumps; cursing at the company's requirements to have you wear black pumps with heels above five centimetre and below fifteen.
Quest started to feel embarrassed again just like before at the cafeteria, touching his warmed up cheek with the back of his hand before looking down to see you in the eyes; lips hovering and lightly brush each other when you could feel his breath started to get heavier.
"May I?"
He cupped your cheek, cradling you closer to his side before he pressed his lips against yours; humming at the combination of sweet taste of your drink and chapstick, placing his other hand around your waist to pull you closer and sit down on top of him, knees hitting again the seat in the process.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and then went down to his chest, using it as a leverage to deepen the kiss; humming slightly as you could feel him starting to get hard under you.
You broke the kiss and looked into his eyes, asking for silent permission before taking off his tie and shirt; after giving you a small nod, you took off your shorts and his belt, slightly fumbling before he blew out his signature laugh, giving you a small comfort and reassurance before shifting your eyes back to his face.
"Fuck, angel,"
His hands were both on your waist, tightly gripping on the soft skin as you began to grind your hips against his; sucking on a sharp breath when he began to lower you down, making a direct contact with his clad one.
"Take your panties off, sweetie. Let daddy do the rest for you, hmm?"
He brushed his thumb against your cheek, sensing a slight nervousness as you put your panties away and Quest began to do something similar; hand not leaving your side when you went back to align yourself with him, giving you some time adjusting to his size as the tip had slipped inside.
Your hands were still on his chest, depending on it as a leverage while his other hand was right behind your back; keeping you steady and close to him, making the older man feel in cloud nine when you looked at him with those eyes — begging for him to take control and let you watch how everything unfolded.
It didn't take long for him to lose control of himself, slamming your hips down even though his thick, fat head was already hitting the deepest part inside you minutes ago; not giving you any space to breathe and making your hips bouncing on his, covering his whole length with your slick before slamming it down again.
"Never knew you'd be so tight, angel. Scared?"
You whimpered, digging your nails into his shoulders while he treated you like a fleshlight; ignoring your pleas to go easy, as if he knew that if he stopped right now, you'd probably beg to go like this — all messy, sticky and drunk on his cock; boosting his confidence on rewarding you for tonight.
You might have hoped he would ignore your clit for tonight, but, it was Quest; he would never forgive himself for not paying any attention to every inch of your body, leaving one of them ignored. And thus, he began to draw a small circle around your clit, eliciting a ripped scream from your throat as you made a mess over his lower stomach and length; a white ring forming on the base as he kept thrusting his hips against yours, overstimulating you in the process.
"Angel, do you want me to cum inside?"
"Yes, don't worry about it."
He watched your eyes rolling to the back, sweaty skin slapping against each other and then spreading your ass with his hands, giving him a chance to angle himself better before a thick rope of his cum filled you up to the brim; forming a small bump on your stomach as Quest rested his hand and put some pressure on it, letting his cum oozing out your folds.
"This is one way to end the day after our first meeting this morning, eh?"

"Something is pumping out large amounts of oxygen at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, at depths where a total lack of sunlight makes photosynthesis impossible.
The phenomenon was discovered in a region strewn with ancient, plum-sized formations called polymetallic nodules, which could play a part in the oxygen production by catalysing the splitting of water molecules, researchers suspect. The findings are published in Nature Geoscience1.
“We have another source of oxygen on the planet, other than photosynthesis,” says study co-author Andrew Sweetman, a sea-floor ecologist at the Scottish Association for Marine Science in Oban, UK — although the mechanism behind this oxygen production remains a mystery. The findings could also have implications for understanding how life began, he says, as well as for the possible impact of deep-sea mining in the region."
"As a first test of this hypothesis, the team recreated the conditions found on the sea floor in a laboratory on their ship. They monitored samples collected from the sea floor — which included polymetallic nodules — and saw that the oxygen concentration increased, at least for a while. “They start producing oxygen, up to a point. Then they stop,” says Sweetman — presumably because the energy that drives the splitting of water molecules gets depleted. This leaves the question of where that energy is coming from. If the nodules themselves were acting as batteries — producing energy from a chemical reaction — they would have become depleted long ago.
Electric potential
But the nodules could serve as catalysts, enabling the splitting of water and the formation of molecular oxygen. The researchers measured voltages across the surface of nodules, and found voltage differences of up to 0.95 volts. This is not quite the 1.5 volts needed to split a water molecule, but, in principle, higher voltages could be produced in the same way that battery voltages can be doubled by connecting two batteries in series, (...)."

Photosynthetic organisms such as plants, plankton and algae use sunlight to produce oxygen that cycles into the ocean depths, but previous studies conducted in the deep sea have shown that oxygen is only consumed, not produced, by the organisms that live there, Sweetman said.
Now, his team’s research is challenging this long-held assumption, finding oxygen produced without photosynthesis.
“You’re cautious when you see something that goes against what should be happening,” he said.
The study, published Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience, demonstrates how much is still unknown about the ocean depths and underscores what’s at stake in the push to exploit the ocean floor for rare metals and minerals. Its finding that there’s another source of oxygen on the planet other than photosynthesis also has far-reaching implications that could help unravel the origins of life.

"Dark Oxygen": A New Discovery, An Old Problem. ALLATRA
The ocean, holding countless mysteries, has once again astonished us with its grandeur.
Deep beneath the waves, where eternal darkness reigns, scientists have discovered metallic minerals capable of producing oxygen!
This discovery, dubbed "dark oxygen," is revolutionizing our understanding of biological processes.
Amazingly, these polymetallic nodules, ranging in size from tiny particles to the size of an average potato, contain valuable metals like cobalt, nickel, copper, lithium, and manganese, used in batteries.
"It looks like we've discovered a natural 'geobattery,'" said researcher Geiger. "These geobatteries are the basis for a possible explanation of the ocean's dark oxygen production."
An international group of scientists conducting research to study the seabed and its features in the Pacific Ocean, focusing on the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, ultimately discovered polymetallic nodules producing oxygen at the bottom of the ocean.
The minerals were found at the depth of the ocean, living in absolute darkness. Andrew Sweetman of the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) called it "dark oxygen" and discovered the metallic minerals that release oxygen while conducting field research from a ship in the Pacific Ocean.
Oxygen is released from polymetallic nodules, which are described as natural mineral deposits that form on the ocean floor. They are a mixture of various minerals ranging in size from tiny particles to an average potato.
Undoubtedly, our planet holds many more amazing discoveries.
For there to continue to be a place and people to study its secrets, saving the Earth must be a priority for all humanity.
After all, the Earth is now entering a 12,000-year cycle, and climate change and increasing cataclysms are the planet's immune response to changing conditions in space. A unified scientific center for humanity is needed to solve climate problems and for promising new discoveries.
Our planet is entering a 12,000-year cycle, and climate change is its immune response to changing cosmic conditions.

t had been thought that only living things such as plants and algae were capable of producing oxygen via photosynthesis – which requires sunlight. But four kilometres (2.5 miles) below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, where no sunlight can reach, small mineral deposits called polymetallic nodules have been recorded making so-called dark oxygen for the first time. [...]The discovery was made in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ), an abyssal plain stretching between Hawaii and Mexico, where mining companies have plans to start harvesting the nodules. The lumpy nodules – often called “batteries in a rock” – are rich in metals such as cobalt, nickel, copper and manganese, which are all used in batteries, smartphones, wind turbines and solar panels. To do so, they used a contraption called a benthic chamber, which snatched up a bunch of sediment. Normally, the amount of oxygen trapped in the chamber “decreases as its used up by organisms as they respire”, Sweetman said. But this time the opposite happened – the amount of oxygen increased. This was not supposed to happen in complete darkness where there is no photosynthesis. This was so shocking that the researchers initially thought their underwater sensors must have been on the blink. So they brought up some nodules to their ship to repeat the test. Once again, the amount of oxygen increased. They then noticed how the nodules were carrying a startling electric charge. On the surface of the nodules, the team “amazingly found voltages almost as high as are in an AA battery”, Sweetman said. This charge could split seawater into hydrogen and oxygen in a process called seawater electrolysis, the researchers said.

15c shop on ship street, oxford por Karen White Por Flickr: The look of this 15c building on the corner of Ship Street and Cornmarket Street (it's actually 28 Cornmarket Street) appealed to me. I found a little of its history online: In 1772 a survey of every house in the city was taken in consequence of the Mileways Act of 1771. According to H. E. Salter, 28 Cornmarket was then in the occupation of Mr Constable, and had a frontage of 4 yards, 1 ft. and 9 in. In about 1813 Joseph Andrews had an auction business here, which on his death in 1830 was taken over briefly by his son Charles Wood Andrews. In 1835 the shop was taken over by Hughes & Company. At the time of the 1841 census Henry Hatch (22), a draper, lived here with his wife Sarah and their son Henry, plus a milliner and a servant. On 20 January 1844 Henry Hatch announced in Jackson’s Oxford Journal that he was moving to this shop at 28 Cornmarket Street from his former shop at 71 High Street. By 1849 No. 28 was occupied by another draper, Sweetman Brothers at a rental of £70 per annum. Lewis Solomon had a tobacco shop here from 1862. Harvey Brother, tea & coffee dealers, were here from at least 1880 to 1914. The photographers Penrose & Palmer were here from 1925 to 1932, with Ye Olde North Gate Tea Rooms upstairs. Thomas Rayson extensively restored this shop in 1951, saving the building from destruction.. From then until the present day it has been occupied by a number of different businesses; Speedwell Cleaning, Rhodes Opticians, Mobile Phones Direct, Chequepoint, and its current occupiers Laird Hatters. In the global scramble for critical minerals to power the energy transition, some countries are racing to exploit a new, untouched frontier: the bottom of the ocean.
The treasure they are eyeing is a trove of polymetallic nodules, small, potato-shaped formations that are rich in the minerals underpinning electric vehicles and solar panels: cobalt, nickel, copper, and manganese. Desperate to seize these resources, countries are jockeying for mining access despite a slew of unanswered environmental, regulatory, and economic questions—fueling fears of a catastrophic gold rush in a region that the world knows little about.
“It’s not just the environmental regulations,” said Lisa Levin, a professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and a founder of the Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative. “There’s financial agreements and regulations. There’s compliance and liability issues. There is enforcement and monitoring. I mean, it just goes on and on.”
But the clock is ticking. If the most aggressive proponents of deep-sea mining under the high seas had their way, they would be able to apply for permits starting Sunday, thanks to an obscure legal rule that the island nation of Nauru triggered in 2021 to jump-start commercial mining. To unlock the deep sea’s riches, the island has partnered with The Metals Company (TMC), a Canadian firm that has been at the forefront of deep-sea mining efforts. That decision gave the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the governing body established by the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, two years to write the rulebook for deep-sea mining in international waters—effectively setting a timer for it to chart a new industry.
Time is almost up, and the ISA appears set to miss that deadline, potentially leaving the door open for countries to apply for mining permits even without regulations in place. What happens next is unclear: The body is meeting on Monday for further negotiations amid mounting pressure for greater caution and more time. Hundreds of scientists have urged the ISA to hit the brakes, and a slew of countries and companies have also joined their calls.
“There’s a lot of inertia once you start mining the deep sea,” said Levin. “We need to be considering carefully whether we want to go into a relatively pristine ecosystem and create damage, which is likely to be extremely long lasting, certainly beyond a human lifetime.”
The ISA’s ongoing negotiations will only shape the future of the high seas, or the international waters that lie outside of the 230-mile exclusive economic zones allotted to coastal nations where they can mine and extract resources at will. Some countries are already considering diving into their national waters; last month, Norwegian lawmakers proposed greenlighting deep-sea mining projects.
Thousands of feet below the ocean’s surface, life in the deep sea is largely a mystery. Untouched and overwhelmingly unexplored, the seafloor is teeming with life and species that have yet to be discovered: scientists have uncovered more than 5,000 new species in one swath of the seabed. Even as scientists scramble to assess the potential impacts of deep-sea mining operations, there remain scientific gaps in an underwater landscape so vast and unexplored, according to a paper published by 31 scientists in 2022.
Scientists are still making discoveries that require further investigation, said Andrew Sweetman, a deep sea expert at the Scottish Association for Marine Science. “It takes time to gather the samples, it takes time to ship the samples, but it takes even longer to analyze the samples properly and interpret the data properly,” he said. “We can’t have a ticking clock just above our heads, saying you have to analyze it all by this time. That’s not how it works.”
Yet proponents are eager to open the floodgates—and soon. The company leading the charge is The Metals Company (TMC), the Canadian firm that is sponsored by Nauru and has poured $75 million into research efforts to unlock the ocean’s treasures. (Companies must be sponsored by a nation to seek mining permits). Since no commercial deep-sea mining operations have ever taken place, the economics and technology behind the potential industry remains largely speculative. But TMC projects sweeping returns once operations begin, citing the soaring demand in minerals and the quality of the resources.
TMC argues that deep-sea mining is necessary to meet the energy transition’s mineral demands at a lower environmental cost than onshore mining. But many scientists have pushed back against these arguments, warning of irreversible reverberations in an unexplored environment and pointing to the ever-evolving nature of battery technology.
Contrasting deep-sea mining with terrestrial operations isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison, either. “The ocean is a giant, three dimensional, highly connected system,” Levin said. “When you do something in one place in the ocean, the impacts and changes are likely to travel and affect other places in a way that might not be the case on land.”
Pradeep Singh, a research associate at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, warned that companies may double down on their terrestrial mining operations in order to compete with the influx of deep-sea mining minerals. “They are going to compete, and they are going to cut corners to compete,” he said. “They’re going to reduce environmental standards—they’re going to make cuts on labor requirements.”
But it’s full speed ahead at TMC, which aims to begin commercial production in late 2024 or early 2025, according to Craig Shesky, its chief financial officer. The company is committed to submitting its application only after it completes a comprehensive environmental impact assessment, he said, which he believes will take “months, not years.” But TMC also won’t rule out applying for a permit—even if regulations aren’t set up.
“It is much our preference to wait until the final mining code is in place,” he said, “but we reserve our rights to potentially move forward using the draft regulations, which already exist.”

HMS Trincomalee by Amarynceus
Commission of the HMS Trincomalee as she might have appeared when built in 1817. She's heeling under a strong wind coming from just afore the beam, under most of her plain canvas minus a few staysails. The royal yards and sails have been struck down on deck and the flying jib furled, though the flying jibboom is still run out. Some things to note: the different angles of the yards on the mainmast is no accident; the lead of the lee main brace cants the main yard downward, and the rest of the yards on the mainmast follow suit. The yards on fore and mizen are trimmed to be more or less parallel to the horizon given the heel of the ship, for the sails work best and the wind strikes them most cleanly this way than when the yards are at an angle. I'm particularly proud of how this came out. Oh, and did I mention that this is my first ship painting in full colour? Because this is my first ship painting in full colour. Single layer, default oil brush.
❶ MASTER OF HORROR – JOHN CARPENTER’S CIGARETTE BURNS (2005)
❹ THE CONSPIRATOR (2010)
❼ NIGHT OF THE TEMPLAR (2009)

61, 43, and 92 for the spotify asks!! -🍂
Thanks so much for this, Alvita beloved!! <3
So, number sixty-one on my Spotify Wrapped is "Red (Taylor's Version)" by Taylor Swift, and honestly I think this is a really good song for Sweetheart Castillo and her Ken doll of a boyfriend Hangman! Jake, like the boyfriend in the song, can be a bit tumultuous to love sometimes and a relationship with him will never be perfect, but Sweetheart's relationship with him is also passionate and never dull like the one in the song, so I really think it's perfect for them! (Plus, she and Hangman do have a much happier ending than the one in the song.)
Number forty-three is "clementine" by Halsey, and as I've likened this song to this OC before, I'll have to say I associate it most with Cassiopeia Jinn!! Despite being both a princess and a general in the Rebellion, Cassiopeia is very often lonely and keeps people at a distance, since she believes that her titles make it a bad idea to get close to anyone. However, this doesn't stop her from longing to have friends and even someone special to love, and I think this song perfectly reflects that.
And finally, number ninety-two is "Would You Be So Kind" by dodie, and without a doubt this song makes me think of my baby Dot Watanabe! Dot is the kind of person who, when she loves, loves fiercely and wholly, and though this is sadly rarely the case, only ever wants people to love her back in the same way. Plus, given that she spends most of the movie making it very clear that she's interested in Murdock and giving not-so-subtle hints that she wants to date him, I'd say this song is pretty perfect for her.
send me a number 1-100 and I’ll tell you the song it corresponds with on my top 100 spotify wrapped playlist, and the oc/ship it reminds me of!!
