All three are tied by fate and bonds of the deepest kind. Any character missing is both a tragedy that must be remedied by the other two AND canonically a chance for darkness to consume everything. Their relationships are the undercurrent of every action and choice each makes and at the pivotal moments they make eachother stronger than they ever could alone.

Well, I haven’t seen this happen in a while, but I just had to wake up to a qrt on fellow Soriku Steam’s tweet being all “Hey, have you considered Sorikai?! 🤪”

Remember that I have a tumblr now? I am not holding back on this.

Look, I used to like Sorikai. And I still like poly ships today. But Sorikai has been ruined for me, and people like that were the biggest offenders. Because first of all, no one asked. Second of all, ever notice how the ones who are like “Have you ever considered Sorikai?” only say that to Sorikus? I don’t know about you, but I NEVER see them say this to Sokais. I wonder why that could be? Oh, I wonder just why they say this to Sorikus, but never to Sokais…? 🤔

Just kidding, I know why. Because even though they claim to love all three of them together, they’d rather be content with Riku being left on his own, and just can’t stand the idea of Kairi being left on her own (because most people hurt their brains trying to think of who to ship Kairi with other than Sora or Riku, it seems, let alone consider the possibility that maybe Kairi doesn’t need to be shipped with anyone for fans to care about her). Adding Riku to their ship is just a cover to show that “Hey, I’m not homophobic/I don’t hate Riku! Look, I ship him with both Sora and Kairi! Plus, I just ended the ship war by shipping them together! Aren’t you impressed?”

I would be impressed, if you were actually this annoying about it to Sokais. But gee. You seem to be fine with letting Sokais ship in peace, but it’s the Sorikus you just have to convert to your ship.

You’re not fooling anyone. Either breathe down the Sokais’ necks to suggest Sorikai to them as well, or leave us all alone. Think you can do that?

as much as i love kairi and i am a firm shipper of sorikai, i still have to admit sora and riku have way more chemistry than riku or sora with kairi. now, is this a bad thing? yes. but i am actually of the opinion that kairi becomes more of an actual character and not just The Woman (TM) as the series progresses, and i think thats a detail that isnt as talked about. sure there is almost no chemistry in kingdom hearts 1, but ever since theyve been building her character more and more, and honestly, i could see it for both riku and sora. riku less so, imo, but my point still stands.

chain of memories is a rly good showcase (although by the nature of naminé fuckin' stuff up, its her instead of kairi) shows just how deeply riku and sora care for kairi and that on its own helps to instill how important kairi is to them. albeit the example for riku is repliku, and we dont know just how many memories he actually has from riku, but assuming he had a decent wealth of rikus memories, he and soras memories help develop some of kairis character.

then in kingdom hearts 2 i rly believe shes a pretty good character, honestly. i understand how ppl can feel uncomfy by the fact that it seems like her whole being revolves around sora and she 100% fails the bechdale test (im not arguing that part) but also in a way, it makes sense for her. sora, kairi, and riku have known each other for like, their whole lives? of course shes going to be thinking and worrying about sora all the time. it makes even more sense in the beginning of kingdon hearts 2 because she is just starting to remember sora, and that must be such a great resurfacing of strong emotions of someone she cant remember yet. of course theres still the bad characterization of women in kh2 (like the fucking naminé and kairi running scene) but i seriously believe chemistry can be seen by kh2, at least by sora. ill admit rikus chemistry with kairi is way more shallow, and he definitely still has more with sora just by nature of how trios with a love triangle are usually written. still, i think to say sora and/or riku x kairi has no basis is a little ignorant to all the writing and well written characters this series has.

in a way, yes! my kh story is kinda weird—at some point when i was like 11 or 12 i found birth by sleep cutscenes and was obsessed with whatever tf this was (also developed a very big attachment to aqua)

eventually, i figured out that this was a huge game series, and i got my sisters into it. a good while after kh3 came out, my dad bought a ps4 and we played it—our first time playing any of the games instead of just watching cutscenes or walkthroughs. and then a couple months ago, we bought a switch for ourselves (my dad returned the ps4 as soon as we were done with the game for some reason) and after finishing the entire aot game we decided to get all the kh games. currently, we're making our way through kingdom hearts 2 and then we'll start birth by sleep, bringing it all full circle :D
