In a way it's extremely unserious how some fans say Astarion is gay and how it's OOC for him to be with a female Tav or with one of the women characters like Karlach (who is also called a lesbian) BUT then they ship him with male characters like Gale or the worst of all, Halsin, with whom he has no romantic chemistry with. It just feels like the fandom will ship ANY male characters together just to appear more tolerant and progressive because it really doesn't seem to me that they care that much about his characterisation as much as they claim to.

Nonnie, thanks for popping by. Some certainly are serious about it and are giving their reasons. A kind druid and a not-so-monstrous undead falling in love is a great fanfic idea after all. To each their own. But for the "it's not that deep" crowd, yeah, I agree gay ships are a fetish. It's so common in many fandoms... During my Reylo days, people started shipping Kylo Ren and Hux which I believe remains the only Star Wars sequel trilogy ship people care about in 2024.
