He's such a gentleman.

I can see him as someone who's really sweet and caring towards his partner.

The type that would definitely bring flowers to your first date. Then, buys different gifts that you would like once he's gotten to know you better.

He has a list of the things you're interested in based on your conversations with him—whether it'd be games, books, shows, etc. He memorizes them so he can give gifts later.

If it's not obvious enough, his love languages are gift giving and quality time.

No matter how busy he is, or how he loves to be couped up in his lab, he will make time for you.

You need him to pick you up? He's on his way. You need necessary items? He's checking out. Need cuddles and attention? Yes please, consider it done.

He wouldn't mind you coming to his workplace, he'll let you stay in the lab while he does his research.

The one time you accidentally knocked his crucible off the table your heart dropped.

He saw your scared expression—your eyes so shiny with your tears begging to stain your cheeks—but he never had the intention to yell at you like you were a kid to begin with. He knows better that it was all an accident.

He approached you and there you started rambling about how it happened and apologized repeatedly until he picked up both your hands and asked, "Are you hurt?" with the most gentle voice you've heard and a worried look. You melted!

He loves to secretly and not-so secretly take pictures of you. He has a camera specifically for you only.

He loves to make plans ahead—for tomorrow, next weekend, next month, heck, even next year and years ahead. He even slipped out his plans of getting married to you and having kids and such. Boy, you never thought it was possible to see how red he can be.

He's always so calm and keeps a cool head. Even when you're yapping about your day and such, he'll attentively listen to you. However, his habit of watching you talk always gets to you and annoyingly, he doesn't get it. His face would look so soft, his gaze is gentle and he always puts a smile.

"Don't look at me with those eyes!" "What eyes?" Definitely happened.

He just can't help it. The way you get excited, or have that angry pout, it was all too adorable for him. He's just so in love with you.

If you're the one to tease him, expect lots of stutters and blinking eyes. He can hide his blush all he wants but the sudden silence and avoiding eye contact are obvious hints he's flustered.

When you patted Xiang-LEE's head when you are fully aware that Xiangli Yao was taking control, he went speechless and stumbled with his words.

But when you patted his actual head, he malfunctioned. He could not maintain eye contact with you at all after that.

Another thing he loves is when you play with his soft hair, but he gets way too shy the whole time no matter how hard he tries to stay calm. If he feels comfortable enough to succumb to the embarrassment, he buries his head into the crook of your neck to hide his blushing face.

If you tease him too much, he might actually burst his bubble.

Hi, I had some questions about the crowyuan au. What do the other heavenly demons think about him? Like Zhuzhi-lang and tianlang-jun, I was imagining the antics tianlang-jun would get up to in teasing sy, and how maybe Zzl would bond with sy over being part heavenly demon part animal demon. I love this au so much and I would love to add even more heavenly demons into the mix. Actually I wonder if zzl and sy would not get along, because crows and snakes kill each other in nature. Firstly, I'm so so glad that you like this AU, crowyuan anon brought it to me and I think we just spiralled from there - honestly, I've just started posting about it very recently again, but not a day went by that I wasn't thinking about it. Tianlang-Jun: This fucking guy would come back from being trapped under the mountain, hear about a 'corvid king' and just immediately go snoop around. He disappears for a couple of years and the corvids have gotten their shit together enough to have a KING now??? He meets Shen Yuan and he is violently excited the moment he spots a FELLOW heavenly demon that reads his favourite genre - even if it is just to trash it!! He gets the best recommendations off the demon, and he also gets so much entertainment from watching all of the corvid demons n yao stumble over one another to try and woo SY. If TLJ so much as mentions the courting methods of the corvids, SY goes a delightful shade of red that TLJ cannot help but find inherently amusing. Not only that, but SY is cunning and intelligent! Although he spends most of his time dallying in the human realm, TLJ was emperor of the demon realm for a reason, and finding a likeminded individual who has positively delightful tactics to deal with irritating flies is nothing but exciting in TLJ's eyes. Zhuzhi-Lang: I am psychotic over the idea that most of the time, these two are completely chill with one another, with Zhuzhi-Lang getting hit with the wifebeam and being in awe of the doting that Shen Yuan drops onto him without any expectations in return!! However. There's just a tiny, itty bitty amount of time where one of them trips up and succumbs to their more feral instincts - SY snatches up something shiny without thinking, ZZL steals a small bit of prey that SY had been gunning for - and they just fucking BRAWL. Of course, with how demons court and flirt, ZZL is like "ohmygodohmygodohmygod we're fighting!!" and TLJ is in the background like "damn, go off nephew!!! Look at you go, you slutty slutty snake" (/j). Meanwhile, SY's mindset is just "MYfuckingshinystupidsnakewhenIfuckinggetyou", even after he is reminded of the courting methods because he can't heeelp itt!!! (let me know if you want other ((non-heavenly)) demons' reactions to this little freak (((/aff))))

CQL's crybaby Nie Mingjue appreciation post

I always see people talking about CQL's Nie Mingjue crying constantly, and they're right to do so, but I haven't seen those scenes compiled so I thought it would be a good idea to do it, since it's one of my favorite things about this version of NMJ.

*I'll consider the times he was tearing up too because I think they're important, but i'm only considering "full crying scenes" the ones where there are actual tears falling down his face.

*It's all in chronological order.

Episode 41 - defending Meng Yao

Why is NMJ crying? Crying is his response to everything, okay? NMJ is very emotionally invested in everything he does. He's very mad these men for saying terrible things about Meng Yao while benefiting from his labour. He's so emotionally invested in everything he does.

Is it a full crying scene? No, he tears up the entire time he's scolding the cultivators but those tears don't leave his eyes.

Episode 10 - being threatened by Wen Chao

Why is NMJ crying? Wen Chao is being very disrespectful, as he often is. And it's understandable, NMJ is hurt, his home was invaded, some of his soldiers are dead and it's overall a terrible time for everybody. To be honest, though, I think he's tearing up out of pure rage because Wen Chao just mentioned what Wen Xu did to the Cloud Recesses.

Is it a full crying scene? No. I almost didn't include this one because it's very subtle but his eyes look too shiny to be ignored.

Episode 10 - expelling Meng Yao from the Unclean Realm

Why is NMJ crying? It's a very emotional and conflicting moment on top of a terrible day, on top of a very stressful period of his life. He was betrayed by his friend who saved his life right afterwards; his home was invaded and they're at war! He has every right to cry as much as he did.

Is it a full crying scene? Hell yes, and it's glorious. They even end the episode with his miserable little crying face.

Episode 41 - Everything, really

Why is NMJ crying? Everything sucks, he's defeated and hurt in front of the man who killed his father. He didn't get his personal revenge and he didn't free the world from Wen Ruohan's tyranny either. Instead, he watched helplessly as his men were murdered and now he has to watch his former deputy mock his father's death and threaten to have Wen Ruohan damage Baxia like he did with his father's blade.

Is it a full crying scene? No, only because he's being very brave about it. I have no idea how those tears didn't fall.

Episode 41 - confrontation at Jinlintai

Why is NMJ crying? Very difficult topics being discussed here. People who are way better with words than I am have already written amazing meta on how having his worldview challenged like this affects NMJ emotionally, so I won't go there. But between the song of turmoil making him more emotionally unstable and the disdain with which JGY talks about the men he killed, evoking this very traumatic moment I just mentioned on the previous crying scene; I think it's very understandable.

Is it a full crying scene? Yes! Most of the time he's holding back tears, but you can see the one dramatic tear running down his nose (on the outside of it) on the second gif!

In conclusion: he has so much to cry about, it's surprising he didn't cry more, it must have taken so much strength (or he was just crying offscreen, which is plausible, because sadly this isn't The Nie Mingjue show and we don't see him all the time)

Anyway, I am not here to claim he's not a crybaby because he absolutely is, but on the actual show we only have 2 full crying scenes. They were so impactful it feels like much more crying happened. Fatal Journey is it's own thing so I made a separate post for those tearing up, crying and emotional breakdown lovely scenes <3

It wasn't as though he'd never imagined what it would be like to kiss Nie Huaisang.

After all, his young master wasn't shy about lavishing attention and affection on him, and that sweetness was as addicting as the cakes and pastries that had become a frequent gift.

He imagines that Nie Huaisang's kisses would taste much the same, heavy with honey and warm.

But while on one hand, he enjoyed the waves of earnest compliments and the sour expressions from others that he -lowly, unworthy Meng Yao- was the one to receive him, he had to be careful not to let himself swim out too far.

All it would take was one rumor that he was leveraging Nie Huaisang's affection to further improve his station -or that Nie Huaisang was taking advantage of him, however less likely to get started that rumor would be- and all of his hard work building his reputation would be destroyed.

So when Nie Huaisang, blushing and nervous, finally took the leap and leaned in, Meng Yao gently stopped him with fingertips pressed to his lips.

"I like you," he murmured, while Nie Huaisang was still caught off guard by the rejection, before the hurt could seep in. "I do. But we can't. Not now."

Nie Huaisang pulled back, mouth pressed thin and eyes shiny as if he were holding back tears, then he blinked several times and forced himself to nod. "Maybe... some time in the future?" he asked hopefully.

Meng Yao smiled. "When my father acknowledges me."

When I am no longer a servant, he doesn't say.

When we are closer to being equals, he doesn't say.

But whether Nie Huaisang hears any of that or not, he nods again, more decisively. "Okay," he says. "I'll wait."

His mouth tasted of blood as he slowly made his way out of the gates of the Unclean Realms, the sound of Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue arguing over his fate fading in the background behind him.

In the years that followed -as he hid Lan-zongzhu, as he worked his way into Wen Ruohan's confidence, as he helped end the war- the metallic tang in the back of his throat never truly went away.

In a way, he was glad it hadn't. With that taste coloring everything he ate or drank, he thought less of sweet things, of a sweet boy, of something he'd lost before he'd ever even gotten to try it.

After all, surely his former young master had found someone else to lavish all his attention and affection on in the past three years. Surely Nie Huaisang hadn't waited for him -lowly, unworthy, cast out Meng Yao- when there were other, more acceptable options closer at hand.

His father had finally acknowledged him.

That was all he needed.

That was all he needed.

And yet it sat sour and heavy in his stomach at the victory banquet, weighed down by the insults that had come with it.

"Yao-ge?"

When he turned and found a soft, worried gaze that was altogether alien -the face wearing it was older, sharper, losing the childish roundness he had carried later than his cohorts- and painfully familiar -he had last seen it as he stumbled from the meeting hall, wounded and damned to exile- his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth.

Nie Huaisang had waited; it was written on his face in the depths of affection and concern in his gaze, and the realization robbed Jin Guangyao of the pretty words he had once imagined years ago that he would say in this moment.

Instead, he simply reached out, letting his fingertips brush along the other young man's jaw as he drew him in.

Nie Huaisang sank into him, warm and pliant and giving him complete control, and his mouth was as soft and sweet as he'd ever imagined.

And yet still, on the back of his tongue, lingered the tinge of blood.

RusAme - 10/10 perfection. the classic america ship to me. no real notes or critique. love it healthy or toxic. love when ivan is possessive and obsessed with al. love when they're fluffy. love when they're mutually kicking the shit out of each other. they're bitter exes. they're best mates. they're rivals. they're married til death do they part amen

(RusAme vs AmeRus (i.e. who's taking it in the butt) is so heavily debated and like. i would say i don't have a dog in this fight, i can respect both sides of the coin but i do prefer a very masculine, dominant characterization of ivan, sorry just being real. alfred is more of a bottom to me. except with france. himbo service top superman.)

USFr - another 10/10, tied with RusAme for my fave except the two ships could not be more different. holding myself back from rambling because y'all know i could go on about them for hours. cougar fran. milf-hunter alfred. mommy and her big strong babyboy husband. dumb blonde power couple. they're so pretty and shiny together and so sweet. need i say more??

(next one is controversial and often considered incestuous. my official stance on this is that i have mixed feelings. i understand why some people dislike it + can empathize. in canon they clearly have a familial relationship. but we're allowed to diverge from canon. i'm also not gonna lie and pretend i don't enjoy the ship in AUs where they're not related)

USUK - ehhhh. 2 or soft 3/10 i really do not like bottom england. BUT (haha butt) if anyone can top him it might be alfred (on occasion). they probably switch but to me arthur could never be 'the wife', to use a heteronormative term. they're homosexual your honor.

UKUS - ohhhh yeah baby. 9/10 when done well. don't get me started. the daddy issues. the banter. the sub/dom aspect. the domestic fluffy bits. the big gay. two differing brands of masculinity. i just love both of these characters so the potential is unlimited. they're so malleable and fun to write. Ameripan - solid 8/10. humanverse only. nationverse relations are very complicated to say the least and i'd rather not touch on that. anyway. human AU ameripan is cute as fuck. i can see them working great either platonically or romantically. they bring out the best in each other. alfred helps kiku lighten up and have fun, kiku helps alfred get his shit together. they're a very 'opposites attract' kind of couple. (is it crazy that i want to see kiku take alfred to pound town. am i alone in that.)

Prumerica - platonically 10/10. maybe fwb, but in my opinion they're too similar to work out long term romantically. 6/10. like, the idea is cute, i don't dislike it, but nah. plot twist they're both fran's service top puppy boy guard dog cringefail loser gamer BFs. that could work.

AmeChu - hmm. 4/10. not a lot of strong feelings either way. very much an older/younger ship. i can't imagine yao would have the patience to deal with alfred for very long, plus the age gap is a bit much. i like age gaps but yao is so ancient. i can see al having a crush on him tho. again not a fave but certainly not bad.

Romerica - with nyo!america yes! 8/10. but alfred and lovi i can't really see together bc of their personalities (lovino's temper. he's like arthur but worse) sexy in theory but disastrous in practice. 3/10.

AmeCan - to me they're brothers 99% of the time and i'm not a fan of overt/sibling incest. i'm not gonna hate on it, i just can't really objectively rate something that doesn't have romantic potential. even if they're not biologically related they're platonic to me. 0 ??/10.

AmeLiet - ?? no hate i just don't really know why this is a ship. like i know they interact in the later seasons but i don't get it?? umm 2/10. it would be interesting to see him have a threeway with lietpol.

As much as I love Shang Bu Huan and his shiny boyfriends, Mu Tian Ming getting left behind so Shang Bu Huan can go look for Lang Wu Yao on his own doesn't feel right. Yao grew up with his father, Luomen, never straying outside the city of Konikoni. He found purpose in medicine, working under the guidance of his father, the owner of Akala's apothecary, who taught him extensively in the field. Accompanied by his loyal Pancham, whom he has raised from infancy and carries on his shoulder wherever he goes, Yao has honed his skills as a doctor. However, when the apothecary was on the verge of bankruptcy, Yao decided to enter into Astral's Final Test to become a trainer in order to raise money. Having been doing medical work his whole life, to try something new was surprisingly exhilarating. He was given his unique Pokeballs by a cheerful blonde was too loud for Yao's taste, who befriended him and was later revealed to be Alfred. Yao decided to join Alfred's team (the Allies) and travel with them as a trainer, sending money back home to his father every time he won a battle. Eventually, he rose to the position of director of Astral Institute's medical sector, putting him in charge of every Pokemon Center, where Yao dedicates himself to providing care and healing to Pokemon and trainers alike. He liked to pretend as if he was only doing this for the money, but he genuinely enjoyed battling, evident with how despite his healing profession, he was still a rather formidable member of the Elite Four. Fueled with thoughts of his father all alone in Konikoni, Yao ascended the ranks at rapid speed, winning every single battle with his intelligence and quick-thinking. He was the strategic sort of trainer, who only used the most effective moves and whose Pokemon was quick on their feet, always emerging from a battle relatively unscathed.

I read something today that apparently Zhao Liying had a hard time filming New Huan Zhu Ge Ge because Qing Er was actually the third role she auditioned for – she auditioned first for both Xiao Yan Zi and Zi Wei and Qiong Yao rejected her both times because Qiong Yao didn’t think she was pretty enough?!! And was unhappy with her eventual casting as Qing Er to the point that (as the tea goes) filming the drama was a miserable experience for Zhao Liying.

And I’m just like…looks-wise, Qing Er was literally the only person on that entire main cast that I thought looked appropriate to the role.

If there was anything wrong with her looks, it would be the horrendous late 2000s modern make up style with overuse of gaudy eyeshadow and pink shiny candy lipgloss. And this went for all the girls not just Qing Er.

Ahhh! Shen Yuan making a safe haven for crows is a wonderful idea! Demonic crows or yao, whether they’ve cultivated human form or not, are all welcome! Regular crows too!

Since I love teacher Shen Yuan, of course he teaches all the younger ones too. Just because they spend half their time as birds doesn’t mean they can’t get an education!

The human half of his family are probably from some tiny village who gave offerings to the local crow demons and unintentionally became friends (crows being protective of their people and all). Their village is startlingly safe thanks to crows mobbing anyone who dares try to mess with them! There might be other half-crow kiddos running around too, thanks to the good relations. Shen Yuan tutors the village kids too of course!

(Tiny bit of angst, but Bing-ge burns with envy if he finds out! This half-demon friendly town was here the whole time?!)

This is adorable, Shen Yuan seeing these young children and just being like "...students." Sometimes, if the human children are extra lucky, he'll take them on flights as long as they have 'necessary payment' (usually a cool looking rock and proof that they've done their chores). It's impossible to find Shen Yuan without at least one crow perched on his shoulder or in his hair, unless he's going on - what the others describe as - dangerous escapades to nab cool stuff from Bing-ge's palace, in which he will know and stop anyone who tries to follow him because he's a dumbass with no self-preservation skills, not them! It takes him a startlingly long time to figure out that Bing-ge is leaving things for him on purpose, and he is undeniably shocked when he finds out. He eventually finally takes it as a form of courtship due to other demons' and humans' instance that it probably is. After doing research on crows courting one another, did you know that the males feed the females?? And sing to them?? SO, I immediately thought of the idea of Shen Yuan trying to reciprocate the courting (because he would never be so silly as to reject the emperor, no one in their right mind would) by randomly appearing in Bing-ge's room (much to Bing-ge's delight and confusion) and singing sweetly before feeding a willing emperor apple slices or some shit until Bing-ge reciprocates and feeds him in response and Shen Yuan just pauses and goes "hang on, am I the wife?" and immediately takes to the role without any thought. ("Why would Bing-ge be the wife, how foolish of me!") When Bing-ge finds out about the village that accepts half demons, of course he's a little upset! Why couldn't he have this sort of comfort and love in his life? Why did he have to suffer all this time?? Then he goes to this village so that Shen Yuan can show off his nest to the emperor (sign of trust?) and is immediately hit with the "I want to be here forever" train.

Also, the more you think about it, the funnier it gets actually lmao. He just shows up with these gorgeous trinkets and jewellery and sometimes even clothes (shiny embroidery of course), and they vanish and the wives are all like "where the actual hell are they going? Who do we even complain about??" and it could be like a background thing where the wives all get jealous of each other when there's actually just this bird guy who comes over quite often and started by stealing shit while dropping off helpful things. Imagine how strange that must be for the wives. "Ugh, [wife's name here] is taking all the attention away from us!!", "Really? I thought it was [other wife's name]." Meanwhile, there's just one wife (Liu Mingyuan most likely) who just knows and she doesn't tell anyone, content to watch as chaos ensues while the bird man and Luo Bing-ge fall deeper in love with one another, and the gifts get more elaborate each time. {part three! How would you hide a body? OH this is such a hard question. I live right next to a very deep, very dark, very cold body of water full of predators. I can walk to a marina and a hardware store. I lift weights. I know how to sail. How good is the marina's security? But then again, how predictable. This time of year the coyotes down the hill have puppies to feed.

~Fallout 4 Companions React to a Pair of Hunter™ Original Red Wellington Boots~

Ada would be delighted to have some high-quality rubber to cut up and use in various projects. A marksman's stock, stealth lining for armour, a generator and some power pylons... Oh, the possibilities!

Cait would be mildly amused. "Well, aren't those cute?" she'd chuckle, and then go and do something else.

Codsworth would be quite chuffed. "By George, is that a genuine pair of Wellingtons, made by the Hunter Boot Company of Edinburgh?!" he'd exclaim. "How splendid to see genuine British craftsmanship still thriving in this day and age! Why, it was nearly impossible to acquire Hunter footwear in the years before the war, thanks to the Chinese government shutting down all their factories..."

"Ah, tres bon! It is most important to 'ave ze protective footwear if zere is contaminated water around," Curie would remark. If she was in her Miss Nanny form, that would be all. In her synth form, on the other hand, she'd ignore them because she's already wearing protective shoes. (Yes, those combat boots included with her Flannel Shirt and Jeans™ are actually chemical-resistant, heat-resistant, suitable for agriculture, industrial work, laboratories, bird-watching and professional kitchens.)

Paladin Danse wouldn't care about the boots at all. Not one bit. However, he'd be very concerned about the Commonwealth gaining access to Vulcanised Rubber. The thought of raiders or civilians learning to heat up naturally-occurring latex until it becomes a firmer, tougher material would keep him awake at night.

Deacon would smile mysteriously and tuck the boots away in his bag. "One step closer to my Wonder Woman costume," he'd declare, already thinking of where to find gold paint and a craft knife.

Dogmeat would use the £135.99 pair of wellies as chew toys unless you stopped him.

Porter Gage would laugh at the wellies. "Looks like something one of the Pack would wear!" he'd guffaw. This belies the fact that Gage would absolutely wear them if they were yellow.

"Look at those stupid things! You wouldn't catch me in anything that garish," Glory would laugh. "But let me know if you find a pair of Chore™ Adjustable Tall Boots by the Original Muck Boot Company, okay? Black or camo, not pink."

Hancock would be mildly amused. "Well, aren't those cute?" he'd chuckle, and then go and do something else.

MacCready would be reminded briefly of the mole costumes they used to have in Little Lamplight, and how, after two hundred years of wear on generations' worth of feet, the boots always leaked. Then his mind would start racing, thinking of all the historians and eccentric collectors he knew, and who would pay the most for a genuine, mint condition pair of pre-war wellingtons. Sydney and Emaline, maybe? Or Sierra? They're red, so he could probably convince her they were Nuka-Cola boots...

Nick would be kinda ticked. "Well, aren't those fancy?" he'd chuckle, and then mosey along to his other business.

Old Longfellow would be quite underwhelmed. "Too short," he'd sigh. "They're better than nothing, but they won't keep the waves out for long."

Piper would be absolutely delighted. "Look at them! They go so well with my coat!" she'd laugh, dancing around with the wellies on her feet. "Nat's going to be so jealous... Wait, but what if this encourages her to wear shiny red boots in a reckless manner?! I-I can't be a bad influence on my little sister! Should I give them to Ellie instead, or...?"

Preston wouldn't really know what to make of the boots. "Er, those are quite nice," he'd say noncommittally. "Not really my colour, though. Er, is there any reason you're showing me these? It's so random... Oh, yes! Speaking of things that are red, we've had reports of a Yao Guai stalking around near Oberland Station..."

"Ah... Thin red buckets!" Strong would declare. "Too fancy compared to normal buckets. Strong can't carry much Milk of Human Kindness in these," he'd add before tossing the boots over his shoulder. They'd land in some unseen location with a crash of breaking glass and the anguished screech of a cat.

Z6-88 wouldn't react. He wouldn't betray the slightest thought or emotion regarding the wellingtons. If, on the other hand, you were wearing them, he'd peer down at your red rubber-clad feet for just long enough to unnerve you, and then speak. "You are aware that the Institute makes its own rubber boots," he'd declare. "Far superior to those antiques. Unless, of course, you enjoy blisters and chafed calves."

For day four - cats

While being held a guest/captive somewhere because of something, Huaisang is given a stray cat that came too close to the kitchen as a kindness/joke. It's a tame, thin, very unimpressed looking cat.

When their father had fallen and they had been taken prisoner, he had been separated from his brother.

The underground bedroom he'd been locked in was nice enough, but it had come with orders.

"Behave, and your brother will be treated well. Cause a fuss, and he dies."

The parameters of "behaving" apparently included enduring the cruel mocking whims of the Wen sect leader's second son.

He had only ever met Wen Xu before, who had mostly ignored him in favor of goading his da-ge into dangerous dares and competitions, but Wen Chao was an entirely different, more direct and petty, flavor of cruel.

His only regular companion -"An assistant for you," Wen Chao had said mockingly- was a boy of barely five who'd been offered up like a sacrifice by his father, Jin Guangshan, about a year after Huaisang's own capture.

As much as they both hated it, Yu-er was the one who had to go fetch meals or ask the servants for baths and changes of clothes, since the spelled chains and collar Huaisang had to wear prevented him from climbing up to the exit of their shared room. Though they always got what they asked for, Yu-er frequently came back with bruises or scrapes from guards or servants annoyed by having to care for them, and Huaisang would have to spend what little spiritual power he could access healing them up.

So it went for another year, the two of them enduring and doing their best to endure Wen Chao's taunting gestures, until the sound of yowling drew their attention to the upper opening.

"Brought you another present," Wen Chao called with a sneer as he dropped a rough-cloth bag through the door.

Huaisang caught it before it could land on Yu-er's head, then promptly regretted it as the hissing, spitting thing bit him through the cloth.

He managed to swallow back a yelp and not throw the bag on the floor, which seemed to annoy Wen Chao enough that the older boy huffed and slammed the door shut, leaving them alone again.

"A- are you okay?" Yu-er asked as he carefully coaxed the jaw clamped on his hand to let go.

"I will be. Help me and untie the knot, would you?" Huaisang replied, indicating the rope holding the bag shut.

The bag went surprisingly quiet as Yu-er struggled to do so, the contents having apparently realized they were trying to release it. When the cloth fell away, Huaisang was left holding -as he'd already guessed- a cat.

It was scruffy from having been handled so roughly, and far too thin, but it was still a surprisingly beautiful cat. Its -his, Huaisang amended after checking, much to the cat's apparent dismay- fur was a pale gold with darker gold splotchy stripes that would be brilliantly shiny after some brushing. The cat regarded them both with distrustful orange eyes, but made no more attempts at biting or clawing now.

"Pretty," Yu-er murmured.

Surprisingly, the cat seemed to understand and accept the compliment, managing to preen a little despite being dangled in Huaisang's hands.

"Well... I guess we've got a cat, now," Huaisang said, nonplussed. He couldn't imagine why they had a cat. It being sent as an actual gift was entirely against Wen Chao's character, and he couldn't see the jerk being ordered to give them an actual gift.

The cat meowed at him as if in agreement with his confusion, and he couldn't help the smile that pulled at his mouth at that.

"Hm, what should we call you? Perhaps Ming?"

"Or what about Fu?" Yu-er suggested.

"Chen?"

"Huang?"

"Yao?"

"Mrrowl!" the cat replied vehemently, making them both stare at him.

"Huh. Okay, Yao it is," Huaisang said, tucking the cat into his arms as Yu-er ran over to the lunch tray he hadn't yet taken back to the kitchens to get their new pet something to eat.

Neither of them noticed when Yao nosed at the shackles around Huaisang's wrists, nor when their power dimmed slightly for just a moment when he did.
