Syb's Shibata Match Recs

Since there's renewed interest in The Wrestler because of his amazing match with Bryan Danielson, I thought now might be a great time to drop some match recs for him! All of these have links you can watch right now. I also recommend this article about his time on the Japanese Indies/MMA, this summary video of his return arc to NJPW, and this fanvid, which captures his vibe so well (cw: it includes the headbutt spots from Shibata vs. Okada).

Katsuyori Shibata & KENTA vs. Mitsuharu Misawa & Go Shiozaki Of the "Takeover" matches where Shibata and KENTA tagged, this is the one I recommend most often! It's a gritty, hard hitting slugfest, with lots of crazy spots. And as a benefit you get to see two of the all-time greats, Misawa in his late prime and Shiozaki as he's starting to rise as NOAH's future ace. Both Shibata and KENTA are in peak form here.

Katsuyori Shibata & Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Atsushi Sawada & Shinichi Suzukawa I feel like it's only fair to give some context on Shibata's MMA period. Here he is tagging in a "shoot style" wrestling match with one of the all time MMA greats, Sakuraba. I love this match because it feels like it encapsulates 2 things about Shibata: 1. he's a much better pro wrestler than he his MMA fighter. 2. he's (especially in this period) a loaded canon ready to fight at the drop of a hat. I love how excited he is in this. I hate that he jumps so hard he bonks himself immediately on the head. Dumbass (affectionate).

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura I watched quite a few matches from Shibata's "prodigal son returns" arc in NJPW, and this one was the standout to me. Maybe some of the Tanahashi matches are more narratively punchy, but this was my first exposure to Nakamura in peak form, and boy is that a powerful thing.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Kazuchika Okada (! INJURY WARNING !) The fact that I'm recommending this match knowing what happened to Shibata after... okay, seriously, this is one of the greatest wrestling matches I have ever seen in my life. The intensity and the way the story builds up to it. God. It's tragic to a high degree that Shibata's best work ended up so fraught like this. I wish there were 0 unprotected headbutts in this match, because it would still be one of the best matches I've ever seen. If you can stomach the implications of this being the match that almost killed him (it took me a long time to watch it) -- it really is That Good.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Ren Narita Shibata's comeback story really ended here, it feels like. After years of gruelling recovery while he trained the next generation at the LA Dojo, he was finally able to go in the ring at Wrestle Kingdom, against his protege Ren Narita (in identical dress!). Rumor has it that Shibata went off-script and personally pissed off NJPW by changing this from a grappling rules match to a regular wrestling match -- I dunno if that's true, but for sure The Wrestler was back after this match :)

Summary: The feud between Seth and Shinsuke is taking a real toll on him. Becky is really worried.

The intense rivalry between Seth and Shinsuke Nakamura had reached a boiling point, leaving both competitors battered and bruised in its wake. For Seth, the relentless pursuit by Nakamura was taking its toll, both mentally and physically, and Becky could see it clearly.

As they walked through the door of their hotel room, Becky's heart sank at the sight of him. His normally confident demeanor was replaced by a weary expression, and the shadows under his eyes spoke volumes about the toll the feud was taking on him.

"Seth," Becky said softly, moving to wrap her arms around him in a comforting embrace. "I'm so worried about you. You look exhausted."

Seth sighed heavily, leaning into her embrace as he buried his face in her shoulder. "I'm exhausted, Becks. This feud with Nakamura...it's like he's everywhere I turn. I can't escape him."

Becky gently guided him to the couch, sitting beside him as she listened to him pour out his frustrations. She could see the desperation in his eyes, the weight of the constant battles wearing him down.

"I don't know how much more of this I can take," Seth admitted, his voice heavy with defeat. "It's not just the physical toll—it's the mental strain too. I can't sleep, I can't focus...it's like he's consuming every part of me."

Becky reached out to take his hand, her touch a soothing balm against the storm raging within him. "You don't have to face this alone, Seth. We'll get through this together."

For the next few hours, they talked and strategized, Becky offering words of encouragement and support as they navigated the treacherous waters of Seth's feud with Nakamura. With each passing moment, Seth felt a weight lift from his shoulders, the burden of his worries shared with the woman he loved.

As the night wore on, Becky could see the tension easing from Seth's frame, his exhaustion finally catching up with him. With a gentle smile, she guided him to the bed, tucking him in with a tender kiss on the forehead.

"I'll be right here if you need me," she whispered, her voice a soothing melody in the darkness.

And as Seth drifted off to sleep, enveloped in the warmth and safety of Becky's embrace, he knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, he would face them with her by his side. For in her arms, he found solace and strength, a beacon of light in the darkest of nights.

Wrestling Love Letters

The Ring General: Reigning after Roman.

Gunther's journey as the Intercontinental Champion is now etched in the history books, securing him the esteemed title of 'longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.' Yet, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, paving the way for even greater achievements. But how do you book the end of such an epic run without harming the dominance and significance of this championship reign? Gunther has ran through the majority of the superstars the WWE roster has to offer, so let’s explore a path for Gunther to ascend to the pinnacle of the wrestling world, cementing his legacy as a world title holder.

With a reign nearing 500 days (at the time of writing), Gunther undeniably deserves a shot at the top title. His longevity as Intercontinental Champion gives him a claim superior to many on the roster. In a previous blog post, I explored why I’m backing Shinsuke Nakamura to take the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins but, as a future feud, Gunther doesn’t seem the right fit here. Shinsuke would be a fresh champion with his own reign to cement and whilst I love a villain vs villain clash, this one doesn’t seem fitting.

Doesn’t Roman Reigns vs Gunther for the WWE Universal Championship at Wrestlemania XL (2024) sound appropriate for the longest reigning IC champion of all time? Champion vs Champion? Tribal Chief vs Ring General? Now that’s a Wrestlemania main event.

With Roman currently taking a break, WWE has some time to manipulate the moving parts in this potential matchup. Maybe they could continue to add fuel to the fire of the Giovanni Vinci storyline and identify Vinci as a pivotal figure in Gunther's journey moving forward. The Triple H era has seen the re-emergence of faction-based storytelling but, recently, every faction seems to be experiencing turbulence. Imperium should be portrayed as an impenetrable fortress, a united force that remains dominant and cohesive. Amidst the descent in the other factions on television, Imperium should stand tall, keeping their internal conflicts off-screen and projecting an aura of strength. At Wrestlemania, Vinci could have the opportunity to prove his loyalty to Gunther and Imperium and play a crucial role in Gunther emerging victorious, further solidifying their alliance. Perhaps intercepting a Solo Sikoa run in? Or perhaps putting himself in the path of a superman punch?

To prevent another instance of a champion holding multiple belts, Gunther should make a significant announcement. Given the lack of formidable contenders for his Intercontinental Championship, he was forced to explore new horizons. Gunther will be relinquishing the IC belt to focus on establishing a historic reign with the Universal Championship.

The future of the IC title could be determined by a tournament that features hungry and determined competitors. This not only showcases the talented WWE roster but also ensures that the next champion feels like they have truly earnt their place. This could be a great time to showcase all the talent that have come up short against Gunther but who still remain worthy contenders, roster members who deserve title shots but have been overlooked and perhaps even some hungry NXT stars.

Now, picture this: Gunther, seated at ringside in a sharp suit, proudly draping the Universal Championship over his shoulder. The Intercontinental Championship sits on a silk-covered platform, flanked by Ludwig and Giovanni. The tournament unfolds each week, with Imperium observing, analysing, and critiquing the suitability of the competitors.

For the brackets, after much consideration—taking into account Sheamus's injury and other superstars tied up in different storylines—I settled on a mix of suitable contenders. When it comes to showcasing NXT stars, while Ilja is a personal favourite, Carmelo Hayes or Bron Breakker would also shine in this spotlight.

As for the winner, recognizing that LA Knight is a huge fan favourite, my vision for the IC title aligns more with Drew McIntyre. It presents Drew with a well deserved opportunity for a dominant championship run playing out in front of real life crowds.

The legacy of Gunther's historic Intercontinental Championship reign will undoubtedly leave an enduring mark on the sport, setting the tone for an exciting new era and setting the stage for another unforgettable chapter in WWE history.

Seth still gets nightmares when he goes to sleep about that night and the man that took everything from him. Every night he sees that evil smile of Shinsuke Nakamura and the fatal words he said in Seth's ear after he slammed that steel chair with full force on his back. "I broke you…" Shinsuke whispers with a cruel laugh.

Seth wakes up in a pool of sweat and looks around to see where he's at when he feels puffs of air on the back of his neck and he realizes where he's at. He's at home in his bed with his husband, Dean cuddling him from behind. Seth takes a breath of relief as Dean cuddles Seth while asleep. "It was just another bad dream" Seth thought as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

 "Maybe splashing some water on my face would make me feel better" Seth whispered to himself. Seth gently moved Dean's arm off of him and went to go to the bathroom until the heart sinking realization sunk in for Seth. He realized he couldn't walk to the bathroom… not anymore.

Seth's paralyzed from the waist down because of Shinsuke. When the steel chair went down on Seth's back, all Seth heard was a sickening crack and felt immense pain until he couldn't feel his legs anymore. It felt like Seth's world came crumbling down when all he heard was Shinsuke's cruel laugh as he tried to get his legs to move but failed when all he felt was nothing. 

He remembers seeing Shinsuke about to slam the chair on his head when Dean came out with a crowbar and busted Shinsuke in the face with it. Dean then picked Seth up bridal style and drove him out of the arena and to the hospital. Dean was pacing in the hospital room and talking about all the things he's gonna do to Shinsuke. When the doctor came into the room to tell him the news, it was there that Seth felt like he flatlined. Next thing he remembered was Dean holding him while he screamed and cried into his husband's chest. 

After that night, Seth had to give up his championship and retire from wrestling since he couldn't walk anymore. He's been using a wheelchair as a means of moving around and Dean takes care of him when he isn't working at AEW every Wednesday and Friday night. Seth feels like a burden whenever Dean has to help him get dressed or comfort him when he has a breakdown. Dean tells him constantly that he doesn't mind taking care of Seth and does it cause he loves him but sometimes those words pass right over Seth's head.

Seth comes back to reality when he feels Dean turn him around and wrap his arms back around his waist and pull himself into Seth's chest. He feels how Dean's hands tighten around him for a brief moment then go back to a loose grip and it makes Seth feel even worse. Seth knows that Dean's arthritis has been getting worse over the years and knowing Dean is dealing with that on top of taking care of Seth is too much for his mind to handle. "Why are you still with me when I'm just a burden to you now?" Seth quietly asks his sleeping husband as tears stream down his cheeks.

He must've been crying a bit too loud cause he hears Dean groan and watches as his eyes flutter open. "Seth? Are you ok?" Dean asks while half asleep. "Yeah I'm fine, it was just another nightmare…" Seth says as he quickly tries to wipe the tears from his eyes. Dean sits up and gives Seth a look which means he knows that Seth is lying out of his ass. "You wouldn't be crying if it was just a nightmare Seth now can you please tell why you're crying?" Dean asks gently. 

Seth started to cry even harder which caused Dean to hug him and slightly rock him. “It's ok Seth, let it out…” Dean says gently as he kisses the top of Seth's head. “W-Why are you still with me?” Seth says through tears. Dean stopped rocking him and looked into Seth's eyes. “Why would you ask me that Seth?” Dean asks worryingly. “Cause I'm just a fucking burden to you now!” Seth yells into Dean's chest. 

“How are you a burden Sethie?” Dean asks gently. “I-I had a nightmare about the night I got paralyzed and it made me realize that you risk your body every week and then you gotta come home and take care of me… it's not fair to you” Seth says sadly. “I don't mind taking care of you Seth” Dean says softly. “You say that but do you really mean it? How do I know you're not just gonna leave one day cause you can't handle it anymore?” Seth says as he looks into Dean's eyes. “To be honest Seth, I ask you the same thing every single day you're with me” Dean says truthfully.

They sat in silence for a couple minutes until Seth spoke again. “You know Dean, if you ever want to kill me you can. Just put a pillow over my face and suffocate me and I wouldn't fight back. I don't know why you love something that's so broken” Seth says as he looks away and starts to cry again. He hears a low growl and feels Dean squeeze him a bit tighter from behind. “Why the fuck would you ever ask me that? Why would you think I would ever wanna do that!?!” Dean says angrily. Seth feels Dean's tears wetting the back of his shirt.

Seth didn't have the chance to answer before Dean spoke again. “Do you know what would happen if I lost you Seth? I would be so fucking lost and alone without you. If I woke up one day and you weren't there next to me, I wouldn't be able to handle it. If it wasn't for you I would've put a bullet in my brain a long fucking time ago cause if you die then I die too” he says through tears. “I mean that much to you?” Seth says as he turns around to wipe away Dean's tears. “I love you too much to just walk away from you Seth” Dean says as he presses their foreheads together. 

“Even if I'm broken?” Seth says as he looks into Dean's eyes again. “Just because you're broken doesn't mean shit cause I'll always love you and besides I'm broken and you still love me” Dean says with a small smile. “How are you broken Dean?” Seth asks curiously. “I'm broken mentally, I'm not the “resident crazy guy” at work for nothing and you know about my incidents” Dean says as he pulls his sleeves down. Seth grabs Dean's arm, pulls the sleeve up and kisses the scars on his wrist. 

“We can't live without each other can we?” He says with a quiet laugh. “Is that a bad thing Sethie?” Dean says as he pulls Seth back into his lap. “No Deano, it just means no matter how hard I'd try I'll never be able to get rid of you” Seth says, causing Dean to laugh. “Nope! You're stuck with me till eternity as it was your idea to marry me twenty years ago” Dean says causing Seth to laugh as well. They sat in silence for a couple minutes until Seth said something…

“I'm sorry for asking you to kill me earlier, I would never make you do something like that to me. I love you too much to ever put you through that” he said truthfully. “Please don't ever ask me to do that again cause I don't wanna be the reason I lose the most important person in my life” Dean says while giving Seth a kiss on his forehead. “Promise me you'll never ask that again? I don't think my heart could handle it” Dean says with a sigh. “Only if you promise not to end your life if something happens to me” Seth says back.

“We'll say it on three ok?” Dean says and receives a nod from Seth. “One…two…three!” Dean says calmly. “I promise” they say in unison. “Jinx! Now you gotta kiss me!” Dean says with a laugh and receives an eye roll from Seth. “Are you proud of yourself?” Seth asks and takes the opportunity to kiss Dean before he can respond. this is a super hard question because, as you probably know, matches aren't easy to remember when you don't know you care yet !! when i first watched wrestling I watched Smackdown, and this is the first one i remember clearly -- i miss seeing shinsuke nakamura every week 😭

for aew, the first match i remember enjoying was on an episode of Dark -- I thiiiiink there was an orange vs chuck main event, but i more clearly remember an orange & yuta tag team match where yuta had to do all the work 🤣

edit: cagematch insists chuck and orange haven't fought each other since before AEW, but what i remember is seeing chuck wrestle and thinking, "this is the guy from y'all's fanfictions? He's not that cool." and now i love him lmao

So I'm one of those odd people who actually got into wrestling through video games! (But so did Shinsuke Nakamura, so I'm in good company!) I love a good character creator (can literally spend hours in them) and a YouTuber I watched at the time (thanks NerdCubed) was covering the WWE 2k games. Needless to say, my mind was blown. I decided I *needed* to buy it, even though I had no interest in wrestling at the time... And I loved it!

Then at about the same time (2015) some uni friends and I had started playing the old Smackdown vs. RAW games on an old PS2, and we were having so much fun that we decided we should watch some actual wrestling! Our first PPV was WWE Hell in a Cell 2015. We had such a blast that we ended up staying up until 5am for every PPV after that (oh to be 20 again – it would literally kill me if I tried to do that now). I fell *deep* into the wrestling rabbit hole after that (thanks, suspected neurodivergence) and 8 years later... here we are!

As for NJPW specifically, I started watching in 2019 because I'd quit WWE cold turkey and I needed something to fill the gap. (I'd always promised that I'd stop watching if they brought back noted racist Hulk Hogan... and then they did. So I had to follow through.) But I'd already realised through watching NXT that I preferred other styles of wrestling to the main roster WWE style, so it was the best thing that's happened to me as a wrestling fan really!

As for my favourite wrestler... it depends on when you ask me tbh! There are so many great wrestlers out there and I find it really hard to narrow it down to just one. Kenny is up there for me too, definitely. He's so damn good. But if you forced me to choose right now, I'd probably (after much complaining and indecision) have to say Zack Sabre Jr! He's on such a tear right now, and I adore his technical style. Plus his promos crack me up and I like his politics and taste in music. 

But honourable mentions to Eddie Kingston, Bryan Danielson, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi, Willow Nightingale and Jamie Hayter (pls come back soon), and Sami Zayn who was my first favourite. Plus many more who I'm sure I've forgotten!

Okay, so we're going into this AU with there being the four major bending types - Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each bending type is as it is portrayed in Avatar: The Last Airbender, with people possessing different degrees of bending and different skills being present within each bending type.

So, when considering which type of Bender each character would be, I kind of broke it down into personality types and traits and qualities to look for, based on what I figure the 'stereotypical' Bender is for each of the four.

Earth Benders are a little rough around the edges, slow to anger, slow to decide on things, but stubborn once their mind is made up. They can be sensitive and they are often very patient.

Air Benders are gentle souls, respectful and adaptable, changeable. They're fast, both in their movements and in their thoughts.

Water Benders are typically calm and easy-going, flexible enough to adapt to their companions or situations. They're often quite easy to talk to and rather content with their lives.

Fire Benders are often prideful and confident individuals who are loyal, determined and ambitious. They can be very playful and fun but they often also have very short fuses on their tempers, which can be very volatile and explosive.

Yes please drop your Jay White match recs I would owe you my life!!! Those gif sets of White and Okada have been rotting my brain for the last two days now I need to know what their deal is 😭

HIIII!!! Sorry it took me a day-ish to get to this but I’m so excited to drop some match recs! 

So the gifs driving us all up the wall are mainly from the conclusion of Wrestle Kingdom 17 (link: https://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNTkzMjA1ODM0OA==.html?playMode=pugv&frommaciku=1 ), the main event! In many ways, this is the denouement for Jay White, the last step towards a devastating spiral that would see him exiled from NJPW just two big matches from this moment. It was also the first match I saw that really made me obsessed with them, so of course, I recommend it passionately as a first go even if it is at the end :)

I think the overarching thing to understand about Jay and Okada’s whole deal is that it’s a very simple wrestling story at its core. Okada is the golden boy, the ace, the native heir to New Japan’s wrestling legacy. Jay is the gaijin, the heel outsider, good but willing to do whatever it takes to put himself at the top. But they both bring really really good layers to their roles that brings something new to every time they clash in the ring. And they’re both just, of course, really fucking good in ring, as top guys have wont to be. 

Jay is compelling because he is in many ways equal parts caring and conniving in his role as Bullet Club leader. He takes the time to have fun and gas up his teammates, even get goofy with them in a way that hardline Bullet Club leaders shy away from– but every so often this insecurity rears up that drives him to pre-emptively stab back. This is also present in his in-ring work– he starts as a cocky upstart heel who can truly out-wrestle opponents and cheats in a kind of cheeky “because I can” way. But into the 2021 ish you start to see him using the cheating as more of a crutch because of his insecurities, and it’s eating away at him. By the time this WK17 match has happened, he’s IWGP champ, yes, but he’s also pre-emptively backstabbed two core members of his Bullet Club and his kind of a deranged wreck. 

Okada’s whole deal really starts with Hiroshi Tanahashi – and I haven’t deep-dived their series, but there’s a pair of great summary videos if you want the supplemental reading here: https://archive.org/details/showbuckle-pack/The+Battle+for+Ace+of+NJPW+Okada+vs+Tanahashi+Part+1.mp4 .  What I love about Okada is that even though he’s mainly in kayfabe a cocky little shit grown into the role of New Japan’s ace, off-duty he’s a really silly weird dude (no, really – Shinsuke Nakamura in his autobiography referred to him as “the weirdest guy he’s ever met”. Let that sink in, I’m sure Shinsuke has met so many weird dudes). Anyways, in the few moments where Okada is off-duty as ace, he’s done some real compelling and memorable character work. 

Which brings me to the actual next set of match recs – the Balloon Okada / Jay White’s initial rise to prominence in NJPW. This was a fantastic co-incidence of storytelling that really cemented being obsessed with their rivalry to me. Jay had just come back from excursion as “Switchblade”, and was coming in hot; with a title challenge to Tanahashi right from the get-go, teasing joining Bullet Club only to ratfuck Kenny Omega (then Bullet Club leader), and nab the IWGP US belt. And he joined up with Okada’s faction, CHAOS. 

Okada was just coming off of the IWGP-belt reign of his life, a record-breaking reign after he finally unseated Tanahashi to ascend as the ace. But when he lost the belt to Kenny Omega, it triggered a super weird mid-life crisis in him, the “balloon Okada” era. He dyed his hair an ugly red. He changed his gear to long bois (which everyone hated! Covering up those thighs is a crime!!!), he yells SCOOBY DOOBY DOO as he’s jumping off the ropes. He was weird. Intrigue and Mastery: A Traditional Japanese Villain Emerges

Shinsuke Nakamura, the former three-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a man who's won the prestigious 2011 G1 Climax and the 2014 New Japan Cup, was also the founding member of the stable 'Chaos' (currently led by Kazuchika Okada), cemented his status as a true wrestling icon long ago. The King of Strong Style's journey through the world of professional wrestling has been nothing short of remarkable but, up until recently, he's been cruising along living the 'future hall of famer' life.

Shinsuke has always been able to capture the hearts of fans with his charismatic presence. Whether it's his infectious smile, his captivating entrance music that gets the crowd singing, or his unique in-ring style, Nakamura has always been a fan favourite. However, in recent times, it felt like something was missing. It seemed as though we hadn't seen a certain side of Shinsuke, and he was merely showing up to give us his best professional babyface performance without being a viable contender for a title or someone we eagerly anticipated seeing at the top of the card.

A contributing factor to this feeling was WWE's insistence on having Nakamura communicate primarily in English, limiting his ability to cut compelling promos. Despite this, he compensated adeptly with his eccentric and exaggerated facial expressions, which effectively conveyed his emotions when the scripts fell short. This issue isn't unique to Nakamura; it extends to other Japanese wrestlers, including Asuka and Iyo Sky, who also both occupy prominent positions on the roster and the women's title scene.

Then came the game-changing moment - Nakamura's heel turn on Monday Night Raw (August 7th, 2023) and subsequent promo the following week. The promo involved a clever twist: Nakamura initially speaking in English, pausing to contemplate his next words, only to dismiss the need for understanding from the crowd or his opponent and seamlessly transitioning to Japanese. It was as if the man brimming with charm had unearthed an entirely new reservoir of charisma.

For someone who has tried and failed to learn Japanese, witnessing Nakamura speak his native language with such animation was truly enchanting. It was as if he'd finally been allowed to show his true self and was running with that opportunity. His animated facial expressions, body language and impassioned delivery made it almost feel as though you comprehended his words, even if you couldn't speak a word of Japanese. This change demonstrated that the WWE audience don't always require spoon-fed storylines to grasp a narrative.

Shinsuke complimented his change in character with a slight tweak in his appearance, now wearing dark kimono-inspired outfits, evoking the classic Japanese villain archetype. This archetype typically pits the villain against a heroic protagonist, in this case, the baby face Seth Rollins. The hero-villain dynamic, central to many Japanese narratives like samurai epics and martial arts tales, usually unfolds with the villain displaying a complex relationship with the concept of honour and quite often they themselves were once a beloved hero. I initially questioned why it had taken so long for WWE to pull the trigger on this heel turn but soon realised that it may not have been as effective if acted on sooner.

Nakamura's decision to whisper a cryptic threat to Seth Rollins was a genius move to get the audience speculating what could have possibly been said (a wrestling storytelling technique reminiscent of Undertaker whispering to Bray Wyatt). And later revealing his knowledge of Seth's persistent back issues, ignited their feud brilliantly and played into the traditional Japanese villain traits of intelligence, cunning and manipulation. Following Payback 2023, the challenge was maintaining the momentum of this rivalry. Nakamura, adopting the quintessential villain role, goaded Seth to the point of Seth demanding a rematch, only for Nakamura to deny his request until he deemed the time is right. The calculated manipulation, marked by meticulous planning and tactics, exemplifies Nakamura's mastery of this character.

I'm confident I'm not alone in backing Shinsuke in this ongoing feud with Seth Rollins, I would love to see him have a heel run with the title, orchestrating the fate of the baby faces on the roster like a master puppeteer. While Rollins is a safe pair of hands, I'd like to see him drop down the card and confront the challenge of having to claw his way back up. This journey could infuse his character with a newfound intensity, potentially sowing the seed for a compelling character transformation. Nakamura has undoubtedly regained his cool factor, and it's high time for WWE to capitalise on this resurgence and explore fresh storytelling avenues.
