Des Ama de Toba a la MCJP avant un documentaire sur Arte

A l’occasion de la diffusion le 8 novembre 2019 sur Arte de l’émission Invitation au voyage consacré  aux plongeuses Ama, une conférence sur ce métier traditionnel et inscrit au Patrimoine du Japon avait été donnée 10 octobre dernier à la Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris, en présence de plusieurs Ama !

Ces femmes fascinent tant que c’est un sujet fréquemment proposé par les candidat.e.s au Prix Robert Guillain, Reporter au Japon comme l’évoque le Président de la MCJP ! Il faut dire que ces Ama ou littéralement « femmes de la mer » sont des pêcheuses plongeant en apnée et dont le métier existe depuis plus de 2000 ans au Japon. Un métier féminin par tradition, pour des raisons physiologiques selon le professeur Akira TSUKAMOTO, professeur dans la faculté des sciences humaines de l’université de Mie, mais si important et fascinant que 82  poèmes leur sont consacrés dans le plus ancien recueil de poèmes du Japon, le Man’yôshû. Les peintres aussi se sont intéressés à ces sirènes régnant sur les mers, sans peut-être les avoir vues mais  fantasmées, en attestent plusieurs représentations sur des estampes où elles sont vêtues de rouge. En réalité, jusqu’à la moitié du XXème siècle environ, les Ama étaient toujours traditionnellement vêtues de blanc comme le montre la photo illustrant cet article, car à l’époque l’habit blanc éloignait les requin.

C’est aussi un métier qui comporte ses dangers comme l’explique la photographe et Ama Aiko ONO, ce qui ne l’a pas empêché de tout quitter à Tôkyô pour s’installer à Toba et devenir elle-même une Ama (elle documente aussi la vie des Ama en les photographiant). Mais Aiko ONO est une exception puisqu’il existe de moins en moins d’Ama, à peine 700 de nos jours d’après le Ministre de l’Ambassade du Japon en France, Monsieur HIGUCHI. S’il existe des plongeuses en apnée un peu partout au Japon, c’est à Toba dans le département de Mie que l’histoire des Ama est la plus importante. A tel point que « Toba et Shima, villes des Ama, les pêcheuses en apnée professionnelles » a été inscrit comme patrimoine du Japon ! Heureusement néanmoins, si les Ama venues à Paris pour cette conférence portaient la tenue traditionnelle, leur tenue de travail s’est modernisée  puisqu’elles portent aujourd’hui une combinaison de plongée. Elles portent cependant toujours un talisman autour du cou, issu du sanctuaire Shinmei à Toba et comportant deux symboles destinés à les protéger : dôman et sêman. Notons aussi que ce sont traditionnellement les Ama qui pêchent les offrandes pour le sanctuaire sacré d’Ise, « le coeur spirituel du Japon ».

Hélas, ce métier semble de moins en moins intéresser aujourd’hui et notamment les jeunes - si Aiko ONO a moins de 40 ans, certaines de ses consœurs pratiquent la pêche en apnée à plus de 80 ans, pourtant les Ama s’inscrivent parfaitement dans la problématique actuelle de protection de l’environnement. Bien loin de pratiquer la surpêche, les Ama respectent et connaissent parfaitement leur environnement. Jamais, elles ne pêchent plus que nécessaire et attendent que les ormeaux, par exemple, aient plus de 5 ans et atteignent une dimension règlementaire pour les pêcher. De plus, elles pêchent selon les saisons des algues, des ormeaux, des oursins ou encore des poissons. Tous les jours durant 10 mois de l’année, elles plongent jusqu’à 7 à 8 mètres de profondeur en apnée, parfois plus profond pour certaines, et tout ce qu’elles rapportent sont ensuite distribués dans les hôtels et restaurants de la région ou dans les villes à proximité. D’ailleurs, les ormeaux, surtout les ormeaux noirs, sont des mets luxueux au Japon !

Les Ama sont également très liées à la culture des perles, et à l’histoire de la joaillerie Mikimoto ! Ainsi, à proximité de Toba se trouve ... l’île Mikimoto. Kôkichi MIKIMOTO, fondateur de la culture perlière et de la Maison Mikimoto, était originaire de Toba. Les Ama ont joué un rôle de grande importance dans la découverte de la culture de la perle. Kôkichi MIKIMOTO avait fait appel à ces plongeuses pour rechercher des huîtres Akoya afin de permettre la perliculture, et ce sont elles qui viennent récupérer les perles une fois prêtes. Il y a d’ailleurs sur cette île un musée revenant sur l’histoire de Mikimoto et l’importance des Ama.  Si dans notre esprit, on associe très volontiers les perles à Mikimoto, et par conséquent à la joaillerie, les perles n’ont pas seulement vocation à finir en bijou. Bien que la France soit le premier marché étranger des perles Mikimoto, et dont la boutique française se trouve au 8, place Vendôme à Paris, nulle trace ici ni même en Europe des produits de beauté Mikimoto Cosmetics ! Mikimoto a en effet développé dès 1966 des cosmétiques contenant de la perle et propose désormais des crèmes, soins ou encore nettoyants pour le visage, le corps et les cheveux à base de poudre de perle ! Il y a encore une autre expérience avec les perles Mikimoto depuis 2012 à faire au moins une fois dans sa vie, et qui ne peut se faire que si l’on se rend à Toba. Plus spécifiquement dans le ryokan Shiojitei, un établissement avec des onsen, notamment un onsen dans lequel des extraits de perle sont dilués donnant une eau blanchâtre et aux vertus bienfaisantes pour la peau. Vous ne trouverez ce onsen que dans ce ryokan, car Mikimoto Cosmetics a développé ce Pearl Aurora Bath exclusivement pour cet établissement !

Yep!  And it wasn’t the first time they had hired an actor for back to back series (though not playing the same color). 

Hiroshi Miyauchi played both Akira Shinmei/AoRanger in Himitsu Sentai Goranger and Shokichi Banba/Big One in the follow-up series J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai.

Not only that but the same year he was in J.A.K.Q. (1977) he was playing the hero in Kaiketsu Zubat, Ken Hayakawa.

Also, Kenji Ohba was picked to play both Shiro Akebono / Battle Kenya in 1979′s Battle Fever J and Daigoro Oume / Denzi Blue in 1980′s Denshi Sentai Denziman.

And that’s just in consecutive series, there are a ton of actors and actresses who have served multiple roles in Super Sentai!
