DAY TWO: Cyberpunk or Mystery
Tsunemori and Kogami in S1
(I could not sleep and I guess that means I cook. Once again thanks to free stock photos website pexel, so I did not have to draw the back ground. I honestly like this piece and composition enough to redraw all of my draft lines. For this piece, I am probably happiest about the color and lighting.)

Shinkane Week Day 5: untitled draft
@shinkaneweek
By this point in his life, Kogami was grateful for moments where he could spend his time doing what makes him happy. Perhaps that was a considerably mediocre sentiment, some trite cliche from an old man's novel, but after long years of hunting and fighting demons and monsters and everything in between, it worked for him.
His hands moved on their own as he gathered all he would need for the weekend, packing everything neatly into an overnight bag. An alert on his wrist grabbed his attention, a call from his boss – so much for his time off.
“What is it?” he asked straight away, immediately resuming his packing while he waited for the bad news.
“Don’t hate me,” came Frederica’s apologetic but firm greeting. Whatever she wanted, it seemed there was no getting out of it. Kogami groaned inwardly. It seemed he wouldn’t be making it to Tokyo in time for dinner.
***
The car ride was long, but he didn’t mind it. He liked the time alone to think, to picture the weekend ahead of him and all that would encompass it, and when nightfall had completely ettled around him with still too much time left to go before his arrival, Kogami gave her a call.
“You’re late,” she greeted, as soon as she picked up. He could tell by her tone that she wasn’t upset; these days her own work hours were long and arduous, so she was probably still working.
“Sorry.”
“It’s alright,” she said, her sweet voice as kind as ever. If he could listen to nothing else for the rest of his life, he'd die a happy man. “I had reports to catch up on, anyway.”
A mental picture came to mind then, Akane sitting at her desk and typing away dutifully at the keys. He missed her hands. If he listened hard enough, Kogami could hear the very taps he pictured in the background.
“Are you hungry?” Her reply came in a knowing hum, long past the point of marveling at how he always could tell when food was on her mind. Sometimes he wondered why he bothered asking anymore – especially when his tardiness all but guaranteed her answer.
After a brisk tapping of his fingers on the GPS to add her favorite food stop in his route, Kogami asked, “Whose office are you stuck in this time?"
Akane, still clacking away at her keyboard, was quiet for the slightest of moments, though it was so quick that he had to wonder if it was his imagination.
“Same as last,” she said.
His fingers clenched silently against the steering wheel, eyes narrowing at the skyline.
"Aren't you too old to be getting jealous of something so trivial?”
"I'm not jealous."
Despite her attempt to stifle it, Kogami could hear her snicker on the other end of the call.
"Right, and I'm not starving." The car was on auto-pilot, but he laid his foot on the accelerator anyway, pushing the speed up a notch. "You should be more grateful, you know. We wouldn't be able to do this at all if not for him."
He had nothing to say to that, and Akane seemed to take pity on him then as she changed the subject.
“How close are you?”
“Thirty minutes."
“Alright,” she said, and in her voice he could hear her smile. He couldn't wait to see it in person. “I’ll be finished by then.”
***
Walking in and out of the Ministry of Welfare’s building with leisure was something Kogami couldn't get used to. The memory of that privilege from his Inspector days was too long ago to resurface in any sense of familiarity, far buried beneath the cold walls of this prison and the mockery of waltzing into a locked paddy wagon in order to venture outside. Those days, too, were well behind him now, yet they hovered in looming as he stepped off the elevator, another ghost of his past that he'd likely never be rid of.
The smell of takeout dangling from his hands caught Akane’s attention before anything else, too focused on proofreading to hear the doors slide open or his heavy footsteps approaching her desk from behind.
“Twenty-six minutes,” Akane announced, though her eyes stayed fixed on the screen. “Impressive.” Kogami smiled, then ruffled the top of her head in greeting.
While he waited for Akane to wrap up work, Kogami took his place in one of the exorbitantly upscale armchairs in the middle of the room, setting the bagged food down on a table far too luxurious for his taste. And when she was finally finished, Akane leaned back in her seat and stretched the ache from her arms, then stood to do the same with her legs. In that moment Kogami took note of the consequential upward shift of her skirt from sitting down for so long, revealing a sliver more of her thighs than usual, and he felt guilty a moment later when he realized he had been staring, as if willing the hosiery to disappear from her skin.
But she didn't bother to fix it, either, as she strode from the chair at her desk to the armchair across from him. It humored him to think she noticed his fixed gaze and decided to let him have the little treat – but knowing her, it was more likely the painfully casual air about her within his long-awaited company that made her pay no mind to it. Still, his mind liked to consider the alternative, considering what would eventually become of their night, as it always did.

常守 朱: "I want to be the reason behind your smile."
狡噛 慎也: "But darling, you already are."
When Kogami-san showed his soft-reassuring smile to Aka-chan in their parting scene at SEAUn (劇場版 サイコパス), I can't help but noticed how old looking he was 🤭🤣
Maybe it's just the laugh line, who knows? 😅😂
P.S(追伸): I always want to join the Shinkane Week since learning about it from last year; but am not quite sure about the period of submission. Should there be another one, I want to have this sketch as an entry. 😊☺️

Shinkane Week 2022, Day 3: Humility
Can also be read on AO3!
Rating: G
Fandom: Psycho-Pass
Pairing: Shinkane (Kogami/Akane)
Characters: Akane Tsunemori, Shinya Kogami
Word Count: 1,282
Summary: After years of knowing each other, there are still some hidden talents left to be revealed.
A/N: Written for @shinkaneweek! Further author’s notes can be read on AO3.
“Wow, I’m hungry.”
Kogami looked down at her with a small grin and a bemused wrinkle to his eye. “I would hope so, if we’re getting lunch.”
“I know, but it just hit me extra strong.” As though on cue, Akane’s stomach grumbled, bringing a flush to her cheeks and a broader smile to his lips.
“And what are you craving today, Inspector?”
“Don’t call me that.” The response was instinctive more than anything at that point—he’d never stop using the title, even if its meaning had gone from overly-strict observance of work ranking, to a fond tease. “Isn’t it your turn to choose?”
“Mm…a new place just opened with crepes. It’s over by the park.” His smile warmed at her wide, interested eyes. “Shall we?”
Curse him and his knowledge of her sweet tooth. Despite knowing he suggested it because it was something she’d be interested in, Akane couldn’t resist the chance to try some crepes. She could only muster narrowed eyes of suspicion at his mischievous smile and let him lead the way.
The food stalls at the edge of the park were their favorite places to get lunch when the weather was nice enough. With how rarely they could get lunch together, they still hadn’t been able to try all of the new stalls.
But Kogami walked past the ones they’d been wanting to try, including the Thai stall he’d been eyeing for a while, only stopping in front of the crepe stall. The warm scent of chocolate and strawberries made Akane’s mouth water, even as she eyed Kogami doubtfully. “Shinya, are you sure?”
“Absolutely.” He met her skeptical gaze with an easy grin, until she sighed in defeat.
“Alright. But I’m paying.”
“Akane—”
“My treat!” She pulled up her card on her comm before he could stop her. “What do you want?”
With that, she shooed him off to wait for her at their favorite bench while she ordered his savory crepe and her sweet strawberry crepe. The delicious scent of batter being spread over the pan and the fillings being warmed in the freshly-cooked dough made an excited smile spread over her face as she waited in line, and it ended up coaxing a matching smile from the worker taking her order.
By the time she accepted the finished crepes and made her back to Kogami, her mouth was watering, eager and ready for the sweet treat she held.
Then she saw Kogami, and she stumbled to a stop.
She’d been expecting to see him lost in thought, or checking a message, or even just watching her at the food truck.
But he was doing none of those things. His attention was entirely focused on a ginger cat rubbing itself on his leg.
Stray animals were rare in the city, especially outside of the Sibyl black zones. Any that were spotted were usually reported and caught to be put into a rescue. Kogami clearly wasn’t planning on doing anything of the sort. He was perfectly happy offering up his fingers for the cat to sniff and direct under its chin.
“Hey, little one,” Akane could just hear him murmur, “where’d you come from?” The cat let out a croaky meow, before going back to rubbing its cheeks against Kogami’s fingers. Akane couldn’t hear any other sounds from the cat, but Kogami quietly commented, “Oh, someone’s happy. Someone’s purry, hm?”
Shinya Kogami, former Inspector and Enforcer, pursued guerilla warrior, now part of Hanashiro’s most carefully-selected crew of detectives and officers…was baby-talking to a cat. The happiest cat Akane had ever seen, at that.
The cat meowed and sniffed at the air, before sniffing at Kogami’s fingers and giving them a delicate lick. “Hm? Do you smell something? I’m afraid I don’t have anything for you. Not yet, anyway…” With that, he finally looked up and saw Akane, standing stock still with his crepe carefully balanced in one hand and her crepe held over her delighted expression. “…Oh.”
He began pulling his fingers back, only pausing when Akane burst out, “Oh, please don’t stop! Please, Shinya, this is the best thing I’ve seen in weeks!”
His brows furrowed as a small smile tugged at his lips. “You can understand why that’s not appealing to me.”
“You don’t want me happy?”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it.”
Akane shot him a playful grin before focusing on the cat, who looked distinctly perturbed to have its time with Kogami interrupted. “It’s okay,” she cooed, slowly approaching and holding Kogami’s crepe out for him to take. “I’m friendly, I promise.”
The cat still tensed up with every step she took, only starting to relax when she knelt close to the ground and held out her newly-free hand. It was much less willing to approach her, and she had a feeling it eventually did just because of the smell of Kogami’s chicken crepe still on her fingertips.
“Hey!” she laughed when it nipped at her. “How come you bit me and not Ko?”
“My charm must be irresistible.” His faux-cocky grin faltered under the blithe smile she shot him.
“Must be…though I’m not sure it was your ‘charm’ that got me.”
Those stormy gray eyes, usually so sharp and knowing, seemed almost bashful in the way they skittered away from hers to look at the cat. “Is that so?”
“Mm…it was more your intelligence…your stubbornness…your unshaking focus…”
His ears were turning pinker and pinker with every word she said and every inch she closed between them, until she was sitting next to him on the bench and his ears looked like they could catch on fire. “…Akane.”
“Hm?” She smiled sweetly when he finally met her eyes.
“Eat your crepe. It’s going to get cold.”
She giggled before obeying him, watching fondly as he picked out a small piece of chicken and dropped it to the ground for the cat to leap on. “I didn’t know you were so good with animals.”
“Neither did I,” he chuckled, an ever-so-soft curve to his lips as he watched the cat eat. “At least, not with cats. And Dime took a while to warm up to me.”
“I’m sure that was thanks to Gino-san’s influence more than anything.”
“Awfully rude to say about your superior.” Even if she didn’t already know him so well, the glint in his eye would have told her he was joking.
“Not rude,” she sniffed, “just honest.”
With a scoff, Kogami focused back on the cat, this time balancing a piece of chicken on his fingertips. Sure enough, the ginger critter approached and delicately ate the chicken without a moment’s hesitation. “I think this little guy is just friendly and hungry.”
“Humility’s a strange look on you, Kogami-san.”
He gazed sidelong at her. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were calling me arrogant.”
“But you do know better.”
“I’m still struggling to figure out what you do mean.”
“I mean,” she laughed, taking a chance on their secluded bench and leaning in to rest her chin on his shoulder, “you’re usually more self-assured than this.”
“I think I can be forgiven for being less sure about cats.”
“Well…it’s still sweet.”
“Sweet?” Akane’s chin slid of his shoulder when he leaned away just enough to look at her. “That’s a new one.”
“A bad one?”
“From anyone else, maybe.”
“Really?”
“Mm…I have an image to maintain.”
Oh, that smile. After all this time, it was still rare enough and gentle enough to make her heart squeeze. Who could possibly resist stealing a kiss from those sweet lips? She never could, and she wasn’t going to start now…even with indignant meows piercing through their peaceful veil of solitude.

Compatibilism
Shinkane Week 2024, Day 3: Space
Summary:
Soulmates, an inexplicable bond between two people known by how they share each other's pain. Under the Sybil System, it's an outdated concept, but that alone cannot stop the universe from working its ways. In such a world, Akane Tsunemori finds herself connected to a troublesome partner.
Link to the fic on AO3.
Akane is seven years old when she hears the word “soulmate”.
Until then, it’s a thing she knows like air or grass, something that exists but that people don’t talk about or care about.
That day, there was a black cat on the road and a car veering closer.
She doesn’t think before she runs forward, wrapping her arms around the little black thing. She stumbles and falls and just clears the road when the car whooshes behind her, so close yet so far. She lies there. Her body hurts but she feels her heart in her throat more until she hears Grandma’s voice, tight with worry.
A while later, when they’re inside the house and Grandma is washing the scrapes on her arm, she says, “You should take more care of yourself.”
She knows Akane too well to ask questions like “why”. She never shouts or screams either, but something about her tone and the way her hands tremble is enough to make Akane bite her lip, her eyes watering.
“I wanted to save the kitty,” she says weakly.
“That’s a wonderful thing,” Grandma replies after a heavy pause. “But it was very, very dangerous and you could have died. I know you don’t mind getting hurt, A-chan, but it’s not just about you.”
“Huh?” Akane looks at her with wide brown eyes.
“Your parents and I. We feel when you get hurt and we would be very sad if something happened to you. It’s good you want to help everyone. Never lose that, but you shouldn’t forget yourself.” Grandma kisses a bruise. “And maybe your soulmate is out there wondering why they’re getting hurt too,” she says as an afterthought.
Soulmate. She’s a curious child and she gets Grandma to tell her more in the days that follow.
Soulmates share pain, she says, because they’re two halves of the same soul connected through space, resonating with each other. Once upon a time, it was a celebrated event to find that person. But as something that didn’t abide by hues or Crime Coefficients, it became an outdated concept in the era of the Sybil System and the literature publicly available dwindled down to nothing.
As a librarian though, Grandma can beautifully recount several famous tales from history and art. A lot of them are romantic but there are a good number of other ones too.
They’re interesting stories. None of them really stop Akane from running headfirst into matters, for anything and everything that she wants to stand up for, but it does make her think a little about the mysterious someone on the other end of her actions.
---
Akane is eighteen years old when her soulmate becomes a rather persistent matter in her day-to-day life.
In the beginning, she puts down the barely noticeable ache in her limbs to all sorts of reasons—sleep positions, overexertion, cramps. But there are only so many times it could seem unremarkable.
And then one day she almost doubles over in class, saved from the teacher’s attention only due to Yuki and Kaori. She rubs at her sternum to ease the phantom pain and helplessly worries for her soulmate.
The resonance she feels is nowhere as bad as what the actual person goes through and yet it teaches her just how many nerves the human body possesses.
It makes her wonder now and then what her soulmate is really like and what they’re doing. Whenever she feels a little uncharitable about the pain, she reminds herself that it could be part of their job, like being a professional wrestler. She wouldn’t want to stand in the way of anyone’s dreams.
Yeah… she hopes from the bottom of her heart that they’re living a life they sought.
It’s all she can do.
---
Akane is twenty years old when she meets her soulmate.
“Meet” is perhaps a charitable word, because the first sign of any such connection is when she shoots Enforcer Kogami in the back with a paralysing shot and her entire body seizes in response.
She can’t even scream at how her muscles twitch in ways she didn’t think were possible, going on for hours and hours, and his steel-blue eyes lock onto hers all throughout until they’re both crumpled on the floor.
He gets the luck of being unconscious. She wishes time would stop again less painfully so she could unravel what just happened— but there’s something to be done still.
Her memories following that are vague, but she remembers the victim falling over—not dead, not how the Dominator had taken the other life—and Ginoza’s sharp voice.
She gazes at him unseeingly for three seconds, then the world tilts sideways and goes black.
---
Soulmates. Karanomori confirms it when Akane wakes up after hours of unconsciousness. “The effects of the resonance were likely magnified by proximity and attacking your own soulmate,” are her words.
It continues to feel unreal but she watches Kogami train and her own knuckles start to hurt, she learns that he became an Enforcer more than two years ago—when she was eighteen—and there’s no way for her to deny this truth.
It’s clear the entire Division 1 knows but no one brings it up, other than Ginoza with his frequent warnings about not getting too close to her subordinates. Akane is glad society under the Sybil System ignores the concept. Even so…
“What do you think about soulmates, Kogami-san?” She gathers enough courage to ask him once when they’re on the balcony together for a break. It’s the first time either of them have ever brought up the word between them.
He pulls out the cigarette from his mouth and considers her, and she has to fight to stay calm. It’s such a silly thing but with how old-school Kogami is, she wonders how his insight will compare to what she only knows from Grandma.
Grandma, who told her not to think too much about it, but that while there’s no rhyme or rhythm to the connections to human eyes, undoubtedly they’ll meet at least once and have a life-changing influence on each other.
Life-changing is a heavy adjective to imagine with someone she’s known for a few weeks, although they’ve worked on enough incidents together that it feels a lot more.
“Well, for one, I’m sorry you got such a poor roll of the dice.”
“I don’t think so,” she says before she can think. “I’m glad for it.”
He remains still. She doesn’t look away from him. Though it wasn’t intended, she can stand by what she said.
Kogami’s kind words about her first day is the only reason she’s still here, continuing to believe that there is some good she can do. His support and guidance is why she can keep improving herself.
Huh, maybe that itself was life-changing, wasn’t it…?
“I think it doesn’t matter beyond what we make of it. After all, there’s no compulsion in the bond. It exists as a signboard at most,” Kogami answers her question at last, dispelling the awkward silence, then adds teasingly, “Although if it’ll prevent you from shooting me again, I’ll take it.”
She ends up shooting him again, this time to save his life from Ginoza's Lethal Eliminator, this time trembling and hurting as well but managing to stay on her feet.
Later, when they chase Makishima in the factory, she threatens to shoot him and he knows it’s not an idle threat.
The pain binding them has never factored into following their ideals.
---
Akane is still twenty when she parts ways with her soulmate.
When she wakes up among the golden hyper-oats, it's twilight. A drone beeps next to her, scanning her and relaying her location to the team.
As far as she looks, in this field that keeps stretching on, she’s the only figure.
The weeks that follow are a haze of exhaustion, her grief and regret buried in the routine tasks of reports and investigations.
It's only when Ginoza joins them as an Enforcer that she finally permits herself to think back to that day in detail. What did she miss? Where did things go wrong?
…what could she have done differently?
At the end of her musings, she's only left with a sinking feeling that maybe there was no other way. She doesn't believe in fate but this was a destiny carved out by human hands from the beginning, and she can't imagine a universe where they could all be the people they are and have things happen otherwise.
It’s an odd sort of comfort, even if this is an ending she struggles to accept.
---
“At any rate, this is truly goodbye. Whether I survive or die.”
She can’t forget a single word from that unexpected phone call.
Kogami is undoubtedly far away now. Whatever happens to him, the news might never reach Japan.
But she’ll still know.
Signboard indeed, she thinks when the first time after that incident, she feels a familiar pain that is not her own.
She hopes it doesn’t get worse than an ache. She hopes that free from the leash of an Enforcer, he could finally find peace.
More than anything, Akane once again hopes from the bottom of her heart, now knowing the person on the other side, that at least he is living the life he sought.

Happy first day of September!
We are happy to announce that we will be holding our fifth Shinkane Week from Saturday, October 12th to Friday October 18th 2024.
This year's prompts are as follows:
DAY ONE: Urban or Rural The key is setting. Include elements of streets, cars, skyscrapers vs trees, mushrooms, lakes, etc. DAY TWO: Cyberpunk or Mystery Psycho-Pass is a brainchild of both genres. Pick your favorite and follow its tropes and conventions (i.e. clues, deduction, forensic vs hacker, pills, body modification, etc.) DAY THREE: Time or Space Play with either. Time loops, time travel, non-linear storytelling vs alternate universes, space travel, or space as a theme, etc. DAY FOUR: Trick or Treat Spooky season is upon us! Give us a good scare to honor the month or indulge us with some hurt/comfort or fluff. DAY FIVE: Drafts or Snippets Time to settle this. Explore their unfinished business as a theme. Or take it quite literally and show us your unfinished projects or create a quick piece in an hour or less. Post it fully in its incomplete glory. DAY SIX: Leather or Lace Smut day! If that’s not your thing, explore the platonic or domestic aspects of our favorite two. DAY SEVEN: Free Day Anything goes.
As with other past events, prompts act more as guidelines and can be interpreted however you wish. You can do all days, some days, or even just one.

Shinkane Week 2024 Day 4
@shinkaneweek, it took me until yesterday to decide what to do, before I remembered this line at the end of First Inspector!
Prompt: Treat
“Treat me to something.”
Little did Kougami know, that was only the beginning. They did need to catch up, and for her to acclimate to the real world after being a prisoner for so long. So, when Akane messaged about a new café or a weekly special, he never hesitated to take her out.
Then, it became a regular occurrence to spend lunch together, sometimes breakfast if they had both worked overnight. Tempura vegetables and sushi rolls. Red bean and black sesame buns, with hot tea and cold milk. Sandwiches and salads. Fragrant pastries and toasted bread slathered in a variety of spreads. Bowls of noodles, sautés, and curries. Her spice tolerance had fallen, she lamented. The same couldn’t be said for holding her liquor.
Her birthday had been an over-the-top celebration with Unit 1 and SAD; she drank both sides under the table, including her new boss, which Kougami was smug about despite his own raging hangover. On the other hand, his was a more subdued affair, with just her and his mom. Akane had made the little chocolate cake from scratch, and he was embarrassed as he blew out the single candle, ignoring Mama’s pointed stare.
Finally, as the weather chilled and their outings were extending to dinners, he folded his arms and asked her point blank. “What is this?”
“It’s a burger with a fried egg on top. You know, to resemble the moon.” She said, like he was the pitiful village idiot.
“No, I meant-” He gestured to their surroundings. They were on a quiet private balcony for the seasonal moon viewing, and maple leaves lazily drifted around them. “This scene. It’s a little…” He stopped short of using the word ‘intimate’.
“What do you think, Kougami-san?” A drop of sauce landed on the side of her thumb, and she lapped it up with her tongue. He stared a little too long at that. “If you don’t like it…”
“Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not complaining. But what we’re doing, eating and talking and sightseeing if we’re not at work…” And now that he said it out loud, it struck. He really was the pitiful village idiot. What the hell was wrong with him? They’d been having dates, multiple dates, since she was released. The words flew as an accusation. “It’s a relationship, isn’t it?”
She blinked. “I’m shocked. I didn’t expect you to be the type to want labels.”
“And I didn’t expect you to not want them.” He retorted.
“Oh, I do. I was just waiting for you. I didn’t want to force anything.”
That was just like her. “…How long have you thought about this?”
“Um, well.” Nervousness flickered in her expression; he’d last seen it eight years ago. “Every now and then. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t in love with you when we met, or at least, I didn’t call it that. I was young and impressionable, then I was frustrated and resigned. But it’s always been you.”
“Funny, I didn’t use the word ‘love’.”
An incandescent blush rose in her face. She set down her food in indignation. “Kougami-san, I’ll be leaving first. Get the dango, I heard they’re good.” She stood but he caught her wrist.
He brought her thumb into his mouth, relishing the sweet-salty taste of her skin, and grinned as she yelped. “Dango can’t compare.”
“You’re horrible.” Her voice was already weakening.
He reverted to seriousness, firmly clasping her fingers. “I’m not a good man, and I won’t pretend around you. But for me, it’s always been you too.”
Gingerly, she sat down, and then, she gave a short laugh. “What a mutual confession that was! It only took six months.”
“Hope it was worth the wait.” He dryly said. “After you fooled me into being your boyfriend.”
“Oh, is that what you want me to call you? Shinya-san?”
A shiver ran to the base of his spine. “Whatever you want, as long as it’s not publicly humiliating.”
Her smile widened. “I expected as much. Pet names and love declarations wouldn’t be like you.”
“My preference has always been actions over words.” And when she blushed deeper, he laughed. Yeah, they were taking the dango to go.

The Elephant in The Room: Frederica
I almost made this as a post for Shinkane week but wanted to keep the attention primarily on my fav Psycho couple. The Frederica/Kogami situation might be worrisome for some shippers, but I absolutely ADORE watching the interactions play out between these two characters. When analyzing, we can spot key differences in how both relationships are handled/developed by our PP Overlords.
It is safe to say that Frederica harbors an attraction for Ko... THAT aspect of the story, the writers have made no secret of. Poor Tenzing had to witness Frede pull out the big guns in their initial meeting, noting the arch of Frede's back/chest as she bent forward to interact with Ko. There is even a scene in the Sinners novelization wherein Frederica sets the mood for SOMETHING to happen between them using body language and a suggestive tone. During this scene, we learn something vital about the current dynamic that exists between these two: The attraction felt here is running on a one-way street, with no reciprocation in sight from Ko. What DOES Kogami end up doing in this situation? An obviously attractive woman, neutral in standing for now, is exhibiting a keen interest in getting closer to you. It's an easy way for the writers to establish the potential for chemistry and yet... Deciding that he doesn't know WHAT to make of all that Frederica is silently offering, Ko settles for simply ignoring the obvious and the scene ends shortly after. I believe this serves as another callback to Ko not being a casual fling type of guy. These interactions (and many others) help reinforce the idea that Kogami is not a man easily swayed by traditional beauty standards, despite the man's knack for letting his instincts reign supreme in most situations.
That scene was a bit of a missed opportunity, don't you think? There is another moment wherein Ko introduces Frede as someone from his home country, and we have another male gaze in the room posed to appreciate the obvious appeal that Frede brings to the table. In this scene, writers could have taken it a tiny step further (if this was truly their intent to establish SOMETHING here) and have the merc outright assume that Frede was Ko's woman. But no such conclusions were drawn, no implications of Ko enjoying his newfound company or missing home...nada. The same can't be said for Akane and Ko, whom have enemies nicknaming Akane 'JULIET' of all things, Shion sounding the alarm anytime those two are together, or the fact that Gino's reactions to their (Akane and Ko's) ACTIONS speaks volumes.
Kogami strikes me as a man with a desire for both understanding AND intimacy when it comes to potential partners, and the life Ko has led so far has not been ideal for cultivating that kind of love/connection. We see, through Ko and Frede's interactions that they function well as a unit/team but are still learning about one another. Whatever level of intimacy/understanding that Ko needs to share with his potential love interest is (whoever that may be *COUGHAKANECOUGH*), Frede is a far cry from being able to qualify in that particular category. Frede's dynamic with Kogami is, in my opinion, what a proper Inspector/Enforcer relationship SHOULD have been like between Ko and Akane (with less emphasis on the obvious attraction undertones, of course) and when looking at these two relationships from that perspective, the parallels we can observe are very telling.
I also can't help but mention that in supplementary PP content (I believe it was a game?) , it is stated that Ko is not a fan of having people/girls hanging off of, or otherwise pining over him... they even joke and say that it's the other way around and Akane is shocked to discover this "side" of Ko. I will take that with a grain of salt, but it certainly checks out with what we have seen so far, don't ya think? Is it impossible for Kogami and Frederica to wind up together? of course not, anything can happen! But color me surprised if that is the direction the writers decide to take.

Shinkane headcannons (I’m so bored haha!!)
When walking down the street, Ko notices people staring at Akane, and though not everytime, but he MAKES sure the world knows Akane is his by holding her waist tightly and pulls her closer to his side. >///<
After a week of not seeing each other (due to their busy schedules) Ko looks at her eyes ‘Akane’ Is all he manages to mutter before devouring her.
Sometimes, in bed, Akane makes sure it’s known who wears the pants in the relationship.
The couple sometimes fight/ psychical combat each other. Ko tries his best not to go easy on her but sometimes fails. Akane is strong though. But Ko pins her in the ground panting most of the times
It took Ko forever to figure out Akane is preggo until Shion finally calls out that Akane is having morning sickness not food poisoning. (She’s been absent for a week)
Bonus: ‘Inspector, I’m applying for your permission to go out.’ Ko sometimes still uses that phrase to ask her out on a date when things have been kinda dry.

Shinkane Week 2024:
DAY ONE: Urban or Rural
January 2121 Akane Tsunemori was released from Tokorozawa Correction and Care Center. Kogami and Tsunemori took a picture of them in front of the cherry blossoms. This photo is printed and framed on his desk in MoFA headquarters on Dejima.
(the photo for the cherry blossoms in the back is free stock photo from pexel, this was not even the version of the picture I was going to draw, but this one is done, and the other one is not, crying cat emoji)

KoMaki Analysis: The ghost of Makishima.
Alright, so I've been posting those Shinkane-themed analysis for the past weeks. But now, I would like to focus on the hard fact that everyone wants to talk about, but hardly speaks about. 😜🙈🤭.
Presenting, the truth behind KoMaki's undeniable intense connection.
Kogami Shinya’s ongoing encounters with Makishima Shogo’s ghost, particularly evident in the "Psycho-Pass: The Movie" and the "Sinners of the System: Beyond the Pale of Vengeance" film, represent a deep psychological and thematic thread woven into the narrative. This recurring motif can be analyzed from several perspectives:
Psychological Analysis
Guilt and Responsibility:
Direct Responsibility: Kogami feels a profound sense of responsibility for Makishima’s death, which he executed personally. This act of killing, albeit necessary in the context of the story, leaves a lasting impact on Kogami’s psyche. He is constantly haunted by the weight of this decision and the consequences it brought.
Guilt Over Akane: Kogami also grapples with guilt over leaving Tsunemori Akane and the path he took. His actions indirectly placed her in danger and forced her to confront her own moral and ethical boundaries.
Ideological Clash:
Philosophical Antithesis: Makishima and Kogami represent two sides of a philosophical coin. Makishima's disdain for the Sybil System and his anarchistic ideology starkly contrast with Kogami's initial belief in justice and order, albeit through his methods. Kogami's hallucinations of Makishima symbolize this ongoing internal conflict and the challenge of reconciling these ideologies within himself.
Unresolved Conflict:
Unfinished Business: The spectral presence of Makishima signifies unresolved issues and the unfinished ideological battle between them. Makishima's ghost embodies the lingering questions and the unfinished dialogue about justice, freedom, and the nature of humanity that Kogami continues to wrestle with.
Symbolic Analysis
Makishima as a Symbol of Doubt:
Catalyst for Change: Makishima acts as a catalyst for Kogami’s transformation and his subsequent questioning of the Sybil System. The ghostly appearances signify the enduring impact Makishima had on Kogami’s worldview, pushing him towards a more critical and reflective stance.
Representation of Inner Turmoil:
Conflict with the Self: The ghost represents Kogami’s inner turmoil and the constant struggle between his old self, who believed in the system, and his new self, who is disillusioned and skeptical. Makishima’s ghost is a personification of this internal conflict.
Potential Romantic Undertones
Complex Relationship Dynamics:
Intense Connection: The relationship between Kogami and Makishima is marked by a deep and intense connection, albeit antagonistic. While it is not overtly romantic, the intensity of their interactions and the profound impact they have on each other can be seen as a form of intellectual and emotional intimacy.
Obsession and Fascination:
Psychological Depth: The continuous hallucinations suggest a level of obsession and fascination Kogami has with Makishima. This can be interpreted as a form of deep psychological bond, which, while not romantic in the traditional sense, signifies a complex and intertwined relationship.
Conclusion
Kogami Shinya's inability to move on from Makishima Shogo is multifaceted, involving psychological guilt, ideological conflict, and symbolic representation of internal struggles. While there is no explicit romantic undertone, the intensity and depth of their connection suggest a profound psychological bond that transcends simple antagonism. Makishima’s ghost serves as a constant reminder of Kogami’s inner conflicts, unresolved guilt, and the ideological battles that continue to shape his journey.

Shinkane Week 2022, Day 2: Sloth
Can also be read on AO3!
Rating: T
Fandom: Psycho-Pass
Pairing: Shinkane (Kogami/Akane)
Characters: Akane Tsunemori, Shinya Kogami, brief appearance from Mika Shimotsuki
Word Count: 1,022
Summary: An early morning work summons pulls a reluctant Akane out of bed. She's not the only one upset about it.
A/N: Written for @shinkaneweek! Further author’s notes can be read on AO3.
The sound of her ringtone going off pierced the room, making Akane’s head jerk up before her eyes could fully open. It was still dark, to the point where she wouldn’t have been able to tell a difference between her eyes being opened or closed if it weren’t for the bright light of her communicator shining from her bedside table. Her fingers were clumsy with sleep as she grabbed at it and barely managed to answer. “Hello?”
“Inspector Tsunemori. You’re needed here.”
Akane squinted at the clock in the corner of the comm’s hologram. “Shimotsuki, it’s 4am.”
“I’m ‘Chief’ to you now, senpai, and as your superior, I expect you to come when I call.”
A smile tugged at Akane’s lips at Mika’s habitual use of “senpai,” but she was careful to keep it out of her voice. “Alright, I’ll be there soon.”
A rustling came from her side as she hung up, and before she could get out of bed, an arm fell over her waist. “Where are you going?”
Her smile grew, as it always did when she heard that deep, sleep-roughened voice. She turned to let her eyes meet a sleepy gray gaze that blinked at her over a small frown. “Duty calls.”
“Now?”
“Are you really surprised?”
A soft sigh huffed out Kogami. “No. Just annoyed.”
“Me, too.” She shifted beneath his arm, trying to slide out and towards the edge of the bed, but it just weighed heavier over her waist. “Shinya.”
“Hm?”
“I have to go.”
“Mm…you have to pay the toll.”
A scoff of disbelief escaped Akane, but she knew better. Ever since he had returned to Japan and they had reunited, he’d shown a playful bent to his personality that had always been hidden beneath weariness and sharp deduction. He still behaved very much the same way in public and at work, but when it was just the two of them, he was always gently teasing her and making silly demands with a steady voice.
Like now. “You’re ridiculous,” she sighed, before taking his face in her hands and pressing a kiss to his lips…and his nose…and all over his face.
“Akane…oi, Aka-mmf!”
She pulled away from his lips with an exaggerated smack and a proud grin. “Was that the toll? Can I go now?”
“You little…” Before she could slip away, there were calloused fingers sliding up the back of her neck to sink into her hair, holding her in place as he grumbled, “My turn,” and leaned in.
Her kisses had been light, playful presses of her lips over his lightly-stubbled cheeks. His kiss was slow, tender, relished, had her sighing out a soft moan and opening up beneath his parted lips.
When they parted, he was wearing a small, satisfied grin, and she was slowly blinking out of a kiss-drunk daze. “Now you can go,” he hummed with one more chaste kiss.
“If I’m late, I’ll make sure the division knows you’re to blame,” she huffed as she hurriedly dressed and picked her holo, her threat holding no real bite.
“I’m sure Shimotsuki would love to hear all about it.”
It was tricky to stick her tongue out while smiling, but Akane managed it just fine.
❈❈❈~❈❈❈~❈❈❈
"Shimotsuki.”
“It’s ‘chief’, you can’t just—”
“Chief,” Akane corrected herself with a bitten-back sigh. “Could you explain to me again, slowly, what about this was so urgent?”
“We got the suspect in custody! We need to make sure we take proper advantage of his interrogation, and that includes preparing the proper questions and interrogator. You’re…you’re the best at making those decisions.” Shimotsuki bit out the last sentence like the words left an actual bitter taste on her tongue. An unfair response, considering she pulled Akane to the PSB at a frankly unholy hour for her supposed expertise.
“Mika,” Akane sighed, “the suspect is currently sleeping, as is our best interrogator. This is a meeting we could very easily have later in the day, when I am actually scheduled to be on-duty and everyone will be awake and alert.”
Shimotsuki glowered at her for a moment, before her eyes flickered away and her fingers began drumming at the desk. “Mika,” Akane murmured, continuing before Shimotsuki could correct her again, “what’s going on?”
It took the young chief another moment to wilt and meet Akane’s eyes. “I just…it’s the first major case since I was given this position. If something goes wrong, it’ll all reflect back on me.”
“Ah…” Akane reached out and set her hand over Shimotsuki’s restless fingers. “You can count on our team to get the job done and get this man to face the sentencing he deserves. You know you can trust us; otherwise, you wouldn't have assigned us on such an important case.”
It had been so many years, but in moments like this, Akane could still see remnants of a terrified, weeping high schooler in those wide eyes. “...Okay,” Shimotsuki finally whispered. “You can return home, Inspector. I’ll see you this afternoon.”
It wasn’t an apology, but Akane wasn’t expecting one. She was happy enough to be allowed back home.
❈❈❈~❈❈❈~❈❈❈
Usually, if Akane were to return and find Kogami still in bed, she would’ve felt a prick of annoyance, even if she ended up joining him beneath the sheets.
That morning wasn’t usual. When she saw that he was still asleep, his arm extended as though to hold her where she was supposed to be, she could only heave a sigh and hurry to change back into her pajamas.
“Welcome home,” he murmured in a low, soothing voice as she curled herself into her rightful place. “Was everything alright?”
“Mm…just Shimotsuki fretting.” Pressed into him like this, Akane could feel more than hear his knowing chuckle. “This promotion is wearing her down more quickly than any of us expected.”
“Whoever could have foreseen that?” His sarcastic question was punctuated by a grunt, his hand shooting down too late to catch Akane’s poking fingers at his waist.
“Be nice,” she scolded him half-heartedly, “and let me sleep.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Kogami laughed, fondness threaded through the soft sound.

Gino and Mika
I remember watching SS Case 1 a few years ago and loving the dynamic between Mika and Gino. And then when Season 3 and First Inspector came out, I really liked the few interactions we had there.
I will admit it's been a very long time since I've re-watched Season 1 or Season 2, so I can't remember a lot of the background (though I certainly need to find time to re-watch).
And I get that there are plenty of people that don't like this ship, which is fair, but for me, they work with an excellent power dynamic.
Gino is the older, wiser man who is in a socially inferior position. He has experience and wisdom learned a lot in his fall from grace and subsequent rising. Mika is young, naive, impetuous, but she has a good heart. She has the social upper hand, but lacks the experience and maturity to handle some of the things that come up in her line of work. Even in Season 3 and First Inspector, she's grown a lot, but she's still not as wise and she could one day be.
They create an interesting equilibrium, pairing the characters together the way they did in SS 1. It made for an engaging story (for me). And it really highlighted both of their characters and the changes they're going through so well. Mika is learning to slow down and breath, to stop and consider the people around her, even the latent criminals, as human beings with wants and needs. She is learning to look before she leaps. And Gino is learning how to look at the world from a more realistic experience. In a lot of ways I think it mirror's Ko's experiences in Season 1, with the benefit that Gino already knows that Akane will treat him as a human being first and an enforcer second, and that dynamic is (slowly) rubbing off on Mika too.
I haven't watched Providence yet. Might go watch it this week if I can make myself do the hour drive there and hour drive back, but I'm not expecting a ton of new content for them. Mostly shinkane (just the teasers alone satisfied my thirst for content for them for literally years).
I am interested in seeing where this dynamic might lead in the future.
