Life Makeover Review

One of my gaming friends convinced me to try Life Makeover. I didn’t know about its existence until she poked me.

The pros:

1. You can customize just about everything with dye - hair, clothing, and some makeup. There’s a function to create clothing too. You can make different types of dresses, pants, and shirts and choose the fabric, hem, sleeves, dye, etc for them.

2. Fully customizable character creation: facial features, weight, height, skin tone.

3. you can get houses and remodel them,

4. A lot of things are free and it’s an easy one to FTP, including events.

5. The game runs pretty smooth.

The cons:

1. The storyline is kinda cliche and boring imo.

2. The game is a lot of memory.

3. Makeup doesn’t always look right with darker skin tones (mainly blushes being too light). This is my biggest gripe with a few other dress up games. It’s disappointing.

4. Obtaining ally cards is gacha based mostly and that can take time.

5. This one is for players new to dressup games: there are a lot of dailies to do so in the beginning, these players might get overwhelmed.

As someone who already plays three dress up games daily (Love Nikki, Shining Nikki, Time Princess), I didn’t find the dailies difficult to complete and can get them done in about ten minutes but it would definitely be overwhelming to someone new at these kind of games.

I do think the devs are pretty generous, especially right now with the new server launches! Now is a good time to check it out.

I’m personally enjoying it a lot so far as I’ve been looking for a new game to play. The home function and making clothes have been my favorite functions so far.

Idk if this is weird to ask out of the blue, but you’ve made me all nostalgic.

I played Shining Nikki back when it was Love Nikki, before the move to 3D. But that account was linked to a Facebook which I’ve since deleted, so I’ll be coming in completely fresh. Would you recommend starting playing again? I quit because the events had become completely unplayable without spending irl money. But seeing all your posts has made me miss it. And the newer clothes look amazing. The lighting/shading on the 3D models can look a little wonky to me sometimes. But the different poses! The amazing makeup! It makes me remember all the things I loved about the game 🥲

Okay, this is going to be a long answer probably but bear with me. First of all Shining Nikki is a separate game from Love Nikki so you would have to start over even if you hadn't deleted your Facebook account. The Love Nikki server is still up and running about the same as ever from what I can tell from other people who still play Love Nikki, but don't quote me on that because I deleted it when Shining Nikki came out I didn't have space for both on my phone.

As for spending money it depends on what you want out of the game. If you just want to complete the story and have a couple of cool outfits and accessories to need around with you can get that for free if you're patient and know how to manage your resources well. Diamonds can be saved up for hell events if you have more impulse control than I do and even then I am usually able to get some cool stuff with the pulls I can get even if I can't complete the set. The hell events do come at a pretty fast pace though. There's also benefits events happen fairly often where you can free outfits just for dying your dailies and you get free stuff on special occasions like server anniversaries and Nikki's birthday. Basically if you log in everyday wait you'll get something cool eventually. Some of the motion poses do cost money, but there are few one as well. The jump pose is free and they're going to give out a free dance move one in the inspiration space soon which is nice (or at least they did in the Chinese server so I assume that what the dance practice goal in the diary is for)

So basically it's not the easiest mobile game to play without spending money, but definitely not the worst out there either and I think the story and outfits are cool enough to be worth it. That said gacha games in general can be addictive and if that's something you are more vulnerable too you should steer clear of it or have someone else monitor the amount you're spending if you do decide to join.

It's takes up a lot of storage space and it doesn't always run very well on older or cheaper phones. If you have a tablet or something it might run better on that. I also know some people use an android emulator and play on the computer so that's also an option if it doesn't run well on your phone.

So someone on the shining nikki subreddit made a post about this game called Life Makeover that s in early access, and i downloaded it and fucked around with it for like, and hour- and man i still got stuff to do in it. Ahead you have a bunch of rambling about it, maybe it d interest you too.

Tldr, its a super polished and pretty game with a story that seems to be getting interesting but i cant say for sure yet, pretty and diverse clothes, shit ton of customisation, and it sems generous so far.

Anyway it s very pretty, customisation is fucking insane, if i understand things right we re gettin a shit ton of free high rarity suits just for doin stuff in the game? Though i am a bit confused of if we re gettin em for Free or for doin stuff akin to the diamond arena.

Here s an outfit i made, but it s got a bunch of styles. Luckily its not just modern clothing, it s got the high fashion/alt stuff too. And it s real well made.

I wasn t exactly playin w takin screenshots in mind so i don t have many.

Ima make a list of stuff about it:

• seems to be generous with its currency? I got 3k diamonds rn and one 10 pull is like 1180 or somethin.

• it has pavilions like nikki does, but i don t think most of its events are gacha based? Idk the thing just started so we waitin. The rate for the coin pavilion is kinda bad, but for the other ones is as good as nikkis.

• you can dye. Everything. It s not Free to dye, u gotta pay w this dyeing currency, but u get a bunch of it. And there s many options too.

• the story is... funky. Seems boring at the beginning but uh, spoilers ig? I ll put it under the cut if ur interested

• many skin options 🙏

• as i said, customisation. U can change the face shape, makeup, body, kinda everythin about your girl at the beginning of the game. ("Body" u know the usual thin- slightly larger but still thin body slider in games? Yeah.) My girl looks kinda like a baby cuz i made her like that, u can choos ebetween "girl" and "female" i think they called it? And it s just, one is more mature lookin than the other. U can change the height too.

• every character besides yourself is fully voice acted in english and chinese.

• every character also has live 2d models for the story portions of the game. Very well made stuff.

• there are cards, like reflections. Sr and ssr cards are live 2d animated.

• some "investigation" segments actually have small 3d environments u explore instead of 2d backgrounds.

• some of the 2d backgrounds have animated elements which is pretty cool.

• there s a housing feature. You buy yourself a house and you can customise it to your heart s content. AND you walk around in it with your character. I didn t fuck around in it too long cuz i wantes to get back to the story, but it seems really in depth and well made? Kinda insane tbh.

• has a guild feature like nikki s.

• actually, if u play shining nikki, u gonna acclimate to life makeover real quick. Guilds, main story, clothes crafting, what looks to be a diamond arena thing for styling competitions.

• your character is shown in cutscenes and 2d art sometimes, which means that canonically, you are 1. White 2. Have black hair (also are a girl). Your name is what you picked tho.

• the world we are in seems to be super high tech. "Makes a 3d model of the item u took a pic of so you can investigate it without touching it" type of high tech. "Extremely advanced AI" type. U know what i mean.

• oh also u got some background already there, n the lighting changes based on what u pick. I kinda prefer nikki's "choose ur own lighting" system tho.

The story goes, you re on a private island with your sisters' rich idol friends, who are a really really popular idol group which is why they got all this money, and this. Guy? Who is also ur sisters friend, Idk he s v boring fancy rich dude typa vibe idc much. Ur here as a graduation gift whatever.

The idols are gettin "haters"-

(They keep callin em that its so fuckin funny. They shoulda said trolls it d be even better)

- that are on their private island? And they re doin more than Hatin, i think they legit tryin to kill these girls. Locked one of em in a freezer, knocked another one over the head and stuffed her in a teddy bear, u saw what happened to annie, that shit.

So yeah it s gettin interestin 👀 i m on ch 3 i think, so i ll see where it goes from here.

RemRitsu Shining Nikki AU in which Ritsuka discovers the Ocean of Memories, and with it, Rem's reflections. And with them, his past

Some of Rem's reflections are from when he was a kid, she watches until she feels she's intruding. And others are the recent past, the times his father calls on him, preparations for the school festival, the night after Roen's attack

Somewhere down the line, he starts noticing her. It's in the quiet moments, the long nights he's stuck researching the grimoire, when he thinks about her at the end of the day, the evenings where he plays shogi by himself

She's not of this world, she's not the Ritsuka he knows, the Ritsuka he will hurt the next day. She's from the future, she's the Ritsuka that already went through it all and lived

And while it can't change the past, he invites her to sit down and play with him. She has no bearing on the real world

He tells her things, about himself, about his feelings towards her. Things she saw but didn't understand. She listens until the sun rises, and Rem doesn't feel tired the next day. Nothing changes, she was a mere interference in a memory, a dream within a dream. The real Ritsuka won't know anything the next day

When she enters the next reflection, Rem welcomes her back

She won't know anything until many, many years later. But by that time, the Rem whose memories she saw won't be the same Rem that is with her now

Two different versions of the same people, at two different points in time. They will never really meet, not at the same time

Will Ritsuka tell Rem that she's been spending time with the past version of him? Will Rem tell Ritsuka that a future version of her has been plaguing his memories since he was a child?

Will Rem tell her that he has two, even three versions of the same memory, only one of them not invaded by her? Even that one is slowly being replaced by the version she witnessed

The times he went treasure hunting with Urie, he was alone, he knows it. But when he thinks back on it now, he can see Ritsuka's figure standing in the distance. He never turned to Urie to check if that figure was real, he didn't have to. Young Rem knew that nobody was there watching them. But now, when he thinks back on those events, he wonders is she really had been there all along, from the very beginning, watching him

The times he was training until he was exhausted, the long hours that all blurred together into one giant mass, they all gained new clarity. When he looks back, he knows she saw him training on Monday, Friday, Sunday and the following Tuesday

One time, he invited her to be his dance partner. Ritsuka wasn't even born at the time, but Rem has the memory of dancing with her before they even met

It happens later too. He gets her a gift for their anniversary. Ten years later, when he recalls it, Ritsuka is there, watching him. He picks something cute for her and she laughs, because she's happy, because she still cherishes this gift years later. She's happy to see him in that moment, a moment she didn't get to see when it first happened. Rem turns to her, by now used to her dream-like presence and asks her "Do you like it?" The same thing he will ask when he gives it to her

Rem doesn't know how far in the future this Ritsuka is. He doesn't know if the Ritsuka that saw him researching the grimoire was 17 or 45. He can't visualize the way she's dressed, if there are any wrinkles or traces of makeup on her face. But he knows she's Ritsuka. Always Ritsuka.

Hi, sorry for bothering you. I just started playing Life Makeover yesterday. I was wondering if you could explain guilds? I haven't been able to join one, but I don't want to buy/spend coupons to create a guild without knowing what I'm getting into.

I really only know the basics bc i just joined the first english one i could find. As my previous history with archosaurs mmo Dragon Raja...it's honestly probably going to be much easier to join as a member...unless you plan on being very active and having enough members in your own guild. Bc of the real world value...if your guild shuts down via not having funds....well there goes your money.

Once you unlock guilds you want to act pretty fast. As like their other game, they like to auto apply you to a guild after awhile...and unless you want to keep leaving guilds best apply or make one as quickly as possible.

Ive yet to have any issues with my own guild, i do my basic dailies enough that i meet their requirements but every guild is different. Try to find one that suits your needs...some have discords (like mine but i uh didnt join and dont seem like i have to....) or require you to be active enough before they kick you

Now as someone not in a position of guild power...some features are pointless to me. But first!

Members: these are the people in the guild that have access to every feature minus any features locked behind a certain role (like increasing sizes and merging guilds)

Reserve: You are not a full member. You can use the shop, take part in events and use the guild channel. You can support the guils but you wont add to funds. After 72 hours of not being online you will get auto kicked. Once you hit level 25 and earn ovee 90 points in the guild you will auto become a member.

Vacation: you can only use the channel, this is where you go if you're a member with 90 points or more and havent been online in more than 72hrs...

Merge guild: If its like DR then basically if your guild is small and is struggling to meet requirements to keep activity up...you'll be able to merge guilds with another one to help keep your guild going (i dont have access to this so i might be missing something)

Change Post: this just is a list of themes you can change the names of positions to...i assume this is something only you see? But i havent changed it

Inspiration project: those books from dailies go here (the game will let you know you have these ready to be donated with a red dot) this is the easiest way to increase your member points

Welfare...once a week you can claim some rewards based on how well you're doing

Guild shop: you'll get pearls from doing inspo and support....this is one place you'll be able to spend them

This is the other. If you've ever played Shining Nikki its very similar to the guild feature where you can unlock makeup. Some cost gold some cost pearls and they will get more expensive as you go farther. You'll get stat bonuses and every so many levels unlock makeup

Support: honestly the perfect support isnt worth it and costs gems. Three times a day you can support the guild to earn pearls and add guild funds...its mostly for yourself

All of this is for the pres and vice master to use...basically level up each feature i cant say much else since im not either of those roles

Don't stack Lost Rite, it's broken af!!

I was experimenting with random combos trying to get inspired and kinda liked it with some other hair (I don't remember the name, one of arena URs. whatever i've stacked that one before and it was fine)

And it all went to shit when I went into photo mode, Nikki's eyes got that metallic contacts glitch even though I wasn't really messing with makeup for that outfit. I tried to go back to styling but the back button just fucking stopped working, cool, love this buggy ass game.

I thought whatever, I'll take a pic anyway, but at that point my phone was overheating like crazy and it started messing with my broken sensor, basically ghost tapping everywhere. I had the poses tab open so it made Nikki rapidly go through a bunch of them, and I think the game couldn't load them fast enough because by the time i managed to swipe the window down and stop it Nikki was stuck in some weird distorted pose with her arms unnaturally twisted and her legs just fucking gone — idk, the 3d model for them gave up and stopped loading I guess

I looked at it in awe for a bit and tried rotating her to see Shining Cthulhu from all angles, and that's where it gets even better: eye tracking got turned on by itself too and the button stopped working, so she was always looking straight at me, even when I rotated her body 180 degrees away from the camera (at least I assume I did, it was hard to tell with the glitchy pose)

The game finally crashed when I tried to post it to Reverie, and when I reopened it the UI was completely fucked and my main screen Nikki was replaced by that monstrosity, now also slightly *moving* as if this all wasn't bad enough, and all speech bubbles were empty. Oh, and the back button was still dead. I had to hard shut down my phone to get out because nothing else worked. I probably should've reinstalled at that point but I didn't want to download it again so I just used Fix and let it do its thing... But when it was done, my account was replaced with a newbie one like I just started the game, even though I know it was properly bound and all. I contacted support and they haven't replied yet — as if they're gonna be useful for once anyway

I know the ghost taps changing the pose was probably just my phone being weird, added that for context, but I think the eyes glitch and the UI going crazy was related to the hair. Idk what else to blame, not like I can test it since it's a UR without a set from some past event. Hell, all people I've talked to don't have this hair themselves, one girl thought I was talking about Arionus or something (even tho the hair from that set isn't called Lost Tides iirc). I couldn't find anyone else talking about it, maybe because the hair looks weird so no one else wanted to stack it. And now you know you shouldn't! Unless you wanna lose all of your progress, I guess.

I'm so upset right now. Hopefully support restores my account soon, I've been playing almost since launch and won't be able to get back everything I had if I start over. Hopefully the devs will fix that shit before more people catch it, but knowing Paper I'm not really optimistic about it, so stay safe.
