Top 5 songs that give you nostalgia and why

i'm trying to go in chronological order and pinpoint moments that were really formative for me.

1) truly, madly, deeply by savage garden - i went to bangladesh when i was 5 and one of my cousins gave me a savage garden cassette tape as a gift which i cherished so much. listening to them for the first time was such a formative moment for because the only music i knew artist from disney and barney songs was whatever my mom listened to in the car but it was like a milestone in me developing my own taste in music.

2) numb by linkin park - i had heard of linkin park for a while because my cousin listened to them but he also listened to slipknot who kind of scared me so i didn't bother exploring his taste of music but i was randomly watching music videos on yahoo music (youtube didn't exist then) and had clicked out of curiosity. as a very angry and probably depressed ten-year-old, the lyrics really resonated with me. i mean, at such a young age, it's hard to relate to music anyway so yeah it was special. up until then, i had mostly listened to top 40 artists until then but lp really started a big shift in my taste in music.

3) of all the gin joints in all the world by fall out boy - this song reminds me of going to see fob during their black clouds and underdogs tour. it was my very first concert. i was 13, i think? we had nosebleeds for $30 back then and my mom had said i could go if i paid for them myself so i handed her cash for me and my friends. i don't remember the songs the played (oddly enough i do remember from first to last) but i vividly remember a boy sitting a few seats away came and told me i was pretty and asked for my myspace and i was stunned because i'd never been flirted with before and also because i was with my friend who was the pretty friend. he never added me though </3

4) u by super junior - so in high school we got laptops to use for studying and assignments but the county firewalls blocked anything fun. i used to spend all my time on lj communities in middle school but i had to access them through proxies on the laptops. i vividly remember someone posting on the the academy is... community about kpop, specifically shinhwa which i just couldn't get into but then i found super junior and they were the first kpop group i ever stanned. really i just thought heechul was incredibly pretty, and coming from emo bandom, pretty boys in makeup was all you needed to show me.

5) 0x1=lovesong by txt - the song is just so good, i can't not include it. it's very reminiscent of 2000s emo/pop punk. but even more than that, it's the emotions they manage to convey. when taehyun says "please use me like a drug," it just takes me back to the melodrama of my teens. like i'm watching my best friend attempt to "tattoo" her boyfriend's name on her arm in the school bathroom after english class only for them to breakup two days later. everything was such a big deal back then.

SM Japan Showcase Ephemera

If ‘pics or it didn’t happen’ was anything but a dated Internet meme, SM Entertainment’s “2001 S.M. Showcase Live in Japan” Showcase would never have existed. As I covered in my previous post, “Remembering SM’s First Japan Showcase” there is little to no photographic evidence of the event, and most of what survives does so precariously. If YouTube ever follows through on its plan to delete inactive channels, we would lose the only video footage of the show, which doubles as proof that somewhere, at one time, a video of all of the performances did exist. Any blow to the Internet Archive, the force behind the WaybackMachine, risks losing archived versions of pages with SM’s official account of the showcase.

With all of this in mind, I am sharing some of the ephemera I collected throughout my research of this post, mostly screenshots of the section of SM’s Fantagio website about the event. I am also including the set list, which is hardly a substitute for actual footage of performances, although it is better than nothing.

Shinhwa's Hyesung claims that his stolen vehicle accident was caused by him drinking for the first time in 2 years

On the morning of April 6 KST, Shinhwa's Hyesung attended the first court hearing for his driving under the influence and stolen vehicle case.

The Shinhwa member was previously arrested in October of last year after being found sleeping in a car, parked in the middle of a roadway. The singer initially refused a breathalyzer test by police, then was brought in for investigation, after which it was discovered that the car he was found sleeping in was a stolen car. It was eventually determined that Hyesung did not steal the car on purpose, but mistakenly took the vehicle in his state of drunkenness.

Notably, this is not Hyesung's first offense for driving under the influence. The singer was charged for drunk driving once in April of 2007.

Now, at his first court hearing on April 6, Hyesung's legal representative stated, "The defendant has suffered from various illnesses such as panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and depression, developed during his 25-year career in the entertainment industry. His symptoms worsened severely in early 2021, and so Hyesung decided to abstain from drinking alcohol during this period. He worried many of his acquaintances, as they could not reach him for a time. However, fearing that his illnesses would go public and would be received in a negative light, Hyesung did not seek medical treatment. On the day of the incident, Hyesung was invited to a gathering of acquaintances he had not seen for 13-years. Consuming alcohol in excess for the first time in 2 years, Hyesung blacked out and was unable to act rationally. He admits to his wrongdoings, but it is not true that he drinks and drives habitually."

Additionally, Hyesung personally admitted to his wrongdoings and apologized for his misconduct in front of the court, pleading guilty. Meanwhile, prosecution is seeking 2 years in prison for the Shinhwa member.

16. First idols to hold 10th anniversary concert: Number 1 contributor to the lengthening of an idols’ existence! Shinhwa was the first idol to hold their 10th anniversary concert (in 2008). Not long ago, Shinhwa and Shinhwa fans successfully completed their 18th anniversary concert, and are continuing to rewrite history.

Shinhwa returns with their 13th album! Shinhwa released their new album at the start of 2017! The anticipation for “Touch”, the title track for their 13th album, is rising.

How old are these fandoms!

[DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE THE AVERAGE AGES I’M GUESSING! If you are over or under the ages I stated, I’m not saying you cannot be in those fandoms — in fact, I’d consider you cultured, especially if you’re underaged and you know these older groups!]

BTS - Definitely under 18, particularly around 13 or 14.

TXT - Slightly older than BTS, but about 15-17 years old.

Stray Kids - 16-19 years of age.

ENHYPEN - 14-18 years old.

Ateez - 16-21 years old. (But I’m more confident with 18-19)

BLACKPINK - 12-14 years of age.

TWICE - 15-18 years old. Most likely to be 16-17.

SEVENTEEN - 18-21, but I’d agree with 19. (Ik it’s not an old group but still)

Red Velvet - 20-22 (I’d think a bit older too since there are older members)

NCT - 16-21 (Most likely around barely legal which is 17-20, but the same as Ateez)

Monsta X - 18-21 (Yeah, I feel like this group attracts queer teens and young adults)

TVXQ - 25-32, I’ve seriously never heard anyone young talking about them unless they’re at least around 10 at the time of their debut.

ITZY - 14-16, their fanbase are quite young though…

SHINHWA - 25-30 (same with BIGBANG and Super Junior, plus I’ve never heard any younger fans talking about them.
