Shingo's body immediately starts tense up by Billy's booming voice.

Billy: Are you really that Kusanagi brat's disciple?

Shingo: (Claps his Own Face Three Times and Clears his Throat Before Turning Back and Facing Billy With a Slightly More Calmer Look on his Face) I used to be. What of it?

Billy: (Casually Shrugs as He Walks Over to Shingo) Oh nothin' on the sorts. Just heard a few things about you is all. (Forms an Evil Smirk on his Face) Specifically how YOU were one responsible for roughin' up one of my men back at the warehouse.

Shingo: (Shivering a Bit in Fear While Trying his Hardest Not to Lose his Posture) Y-Yeah, well......(Glares at Billy While Mustering Up Every Bit if Courage He Has Inside of Him) S-So what? They're the ones who lured Rock and the others there to begin with. And I'll beat 'em up again if you and your goons even THINK about harming my friends agai-

Before Shingo could finish his sentence, Billy place the tip of his red pole right onto his cheek, shutting him up instantly.

Billy: Making a direct threat to me and the boys, right in front of my face.....That takes guts. (Forms an Impressed Smirk on his Face) ('Heh') I think we're gonna get along just fine, mate.

Rock: (Angrily Yeah at Billy) You get the hell away from Shingo right now, Billy Kane, or SO HELP ME-

Geese: Enough, Billy. Quit messing around with the employee and let him make our coffee. (Sits Himself Down on One Side of the Circular Table) We're wasting enough time as it is.

Billy: (Immediately Bows Down to Geese) Yes, sir! Apologies in advance. (Turns Back to Shingo) You heard the boss, mate. (Pokes Shingo's Cheek with the Tip of his Pole) Move it already!

Shingo: Alright, alright, I'm going!

Shingo makes his behind the counter as Billy sits down at one of the seats right in front of it.

Shingo: ('Sigh') Okay. What type of coffee do you guys want for today?

Billy: The boss will have a cup of cappuccino on the house and I think I'll myself a latte on the side.

Shingo: You got it. (Begins Working on the Two Orders)

'A Bit of Silence'

Billy: Sooooo.........(Tipping his Two Fingers Lightly on the Counter While Waiting For his and Geese's Orders) You're really not Kyo's student anymore, huh?

Shingo: Yeah, kinda. I mean, I still admire him in some capacity, but nowadays, I train under his dad, Saisyuu Sensei.

Billy: Learning from the very man that shaped the champion to who he is today.....(Puts on a Impressed Smirk on his Face) Not a bad display of development there, kid.

Shingo: (Smiles a Bit) Thanks. I've actually learned a lot about the Kusanagi technique and the family's upbringings thanks to him. (Smiles Fondly of his Master) He's one of the few people that actually believes in me and I couldn't be anymore grateful than that, you know?

Billy: (Nodded in Agreement) Yeah, I get ya. You kinda reminds me of me when I started workin' for boss at your age at a matter of fact.

Shingo: Oh cool. Did Geese ever taught you how to fight?

Billy: Nah. I taught myself how to long before that, mate. But he does teach my sis and I the basics on business industries, the ins n' outs of making negotiations, and how to spot a false information on each given contracts

Shingo: Cool. (Hands Billy the Drink He Ordered) Here's your Latte.

Billy gives out another nod before trying out the drink himself. With one good sip, his eyes begins to widen up in genuine surprise by it's taste before sipping on it once more.

Billy: Holy shat.....(Turns Back to Shingo) You really made this?

Shingo: (Happily Nodded) Yep! It's been a while since I've made a cup of Latte, so it might not live up to your expectations.

Billy: You kiddin'? This is the best damn Latte I've ever tasted in a very long time!

Shingo: (Eyes Widened a Bit in Genuine Surprise) You.....really mean that?

Billy: (Gives Shingo a Single Nod and an Impressed Smirk on his Face) Meant every word. You'd be the best coffee maker in the whole town if you keep this up. How long did you worked here anyways?

Shingo: Since the day I moved here. I saw the way mom would make coffee and hot coco for my sisters and I one day, jogged down the few main ingredients and precise hand movements from memory, and the rest was history. (Chuckles Lightly While Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth) Though, I highly doubt my coffee would come close to be as godly as hers.....

Billy: Give it a few years, you'll get there eventually. Speaking of which, you said you got sisters of your own?

Shingo: (Happily Nodded) Mmhmm. Three of them to be exact. (Resumes Back To Work, Making a One Hot Cup Cappuccino For Geese) There's my older sister, Tsubaki, who's way more of a know-it-all than I am believe it or not, our younger sister, Naomi, who would always brag about me every chance she gets-Probably to make herself look cooler in front of her peers, and then there's Kula, who isn't really a sister by blood per say, but we've hangout with Rock and co for so long that I've eventually started seeing her as one.

Billy: Charming. (Chuckles Fondly at a Memory of his Own to Think About) Your second sister reminds me of all the times Lily bragged about how cool her big brother truly is. (Starts Rolling his Eyes in Annoyance) Or at least she used to until all she can talk about these days is that good for nothin'- (Crumbles his Cup a Bit in Anger) Bastard Joe Higashi!- (Looks Down and Notices his Drink his Dripping Down on the Counter) .....Oops.

Shingo: Don't worry, i got it! (Takea a Short White Towel Out From his Aapron's Pouch and Uses it to Wipe The Spill Off Of the Counter) You're REALLY not a fan of Higashi-san, huh?

Billy: He tries to date my baby sister on multiple occasions. Of course I'm not a bloody fan of his dumbarse! Always act so smug and cocky to everyone he means. Lily's far too good him!

Shingo: Well, he is the Muey Thai Champion after all. There's bound to be an egotistical side to come out eventually. And get this: He got himself a student now.

Billy: ('Tch') The talkin' windbag got himself a apprentice to teach? I don't believe it.

Shingo: It's truth. Rock and I saw her at the beach once and she was able to create a pink colored Hurricane Upper at ease, it looked amazing. But anyways- (Gives Billy a Cup of Cappuccino) Here's one cappuccino for your boss.

Billy: Much obliged.

Billy got out of his seat and walks over to Geese and Rock's table with the drink he asked to order for him.

Billy: (Hands Geese His Drink) Your coffee, sir.

Geese: (Simply Nodded to his Most Loyal Right Hand Man) Thank you.

Billy bows to his boss before walking back to the counter. Once he sat back down to his seat, he turns to see Geese taking a sip of his choice of beverage.

Shingo: (Takes a Look at Geese in the Distance as Well) There it is....The very first of cup of cappuccino I've made for the crimelord of Southtown (Turns Away While Crossing Both his Fingers Together) Here's hoping he doesn't outright hat-

Billy: He likes it.

Shingo: (Turns Back to Billy With Ankther Surprised Look on his Face) He does? Are you okay?

Billy: Yeah, mate. (Tilts Shingo's Head Towards His Direction) Look.

The boys watches Geese nodding towards his drink with his face indicating a look of approval of some kind before sipping on 8t some more

Billy: That's the most I've seen him enjoying a cup of coffee in a good long time. You done good, kid.

Shingo: ('Sighs in Pure Relief') Oh thank god.....I don't think I ever wanna imagine what he's gonna do if he didn't like it......

Billy: Oh will you relax? He'd only be unimpressed by it at best. 'Sides, the only thing that's on his mind right now is havin' a private conversation with his only offspring. Makin' up for loss times if you will.

Shingo: (Smiles a Bit) That's sweet of him. Though, I kinda doubt it's gonna stop Rock from hating him anytime soon.

Billy: ('Heh') Obviously. But it's better than nothin',, you know?

Shingo: Yeah. It's the least he could do after everything he put him through in the past, that's for sure.

Billy suddenly felt something buzzing as he takes his phone out of pants pocket before groaning at the message that was given to him just recently.

Shingo: (Turns to Billy) What's up?

Billy: Got a text from one of our soon to be business partners. They want us to attend another one of their meetings in the next two hours or so. And just when I was actually enjoyin' myself here.

Shingo: (Playfully Rolls his Eyes) Would've been a lot more enjoyable if you didn't kick everyone else out.

Billy: Hey, it was the boss' orders to have them outta here, not mines. (Forms a Teasing Smirk on his Face) You're more than welcome to file a complaint to him. Can't guarantee the safety of your live though.

Shingo: ('Gulp') I-I'll pass on the offer, thanks.

Billy: Wise choice.

Geese: Billy! It's time we part from this establishment. Our next meeting will start soon.

Billy: (Bows to Geese) Coming right away, sir! (Turns to Shingo with a More Friendier Smile) And that's my cue to leave. Sorry we has to cut our chat short, mate.

Shingo: (Smiles Back at Billy) It's alright. I'm just glad we had the chance to get along in the first place. (Sticks his Hand Out in Front of Billy)

Billy: (Gives Shingo a Handshake) Likewise. You and your friend there be safe out there in the streets and have a good rest of the day. (Finally Makes his Leave as Well)

Shingo: (Happily Waves Goodbye to a Unexpectedly New Friend) You too, Billy-san! Good luck on your meeting!

Billy gives Shingo a farewell salute before following Geese out the door.

Initial D Characters and their pets

Fujiwara family- they’ve always been too poor to keep anything officially, but Bunta and Takumi both feed the ally way cats

Speed Stars- I haven’t figured out anything too specific but I share @steakrogers ‘s HC that Kenji owns a ferret that acts as the Speed Stars mascot.

Mogi- her family owns a gorgeous orange long haired cat named something very stereotypical for a cat

Takahashi family- Ryosuke had a gold fish before Keisuke was born but since then his family never allowed pets. Even still Keisuke would try to bring home and keep any animal he found. In the Sims I gave Keisuke a jack Russel.

Kenta- he has a pet hamster at his parents. On free weekends he’ll dress it up for photos.

Fumihiro- he grew up on a farm so has plenty of experience with ungulates and fowl. Really wishes that capybara can be kept as a house pet, settles on a couple of guinea pigs. When he “grows up” he wants a big dog.

Nakazato- he’s never had a pet but he’s always dreamed of having a Bunny

Shingo- He has owned rats since high school, replacing them whenever they die so the other doesn’t get lonely. Despite his unkept appearance and attitude the rats are well taken care of with more space in his apartment than he has

Impact Blue- Mako has a well kept salt water fish tank which Sayuki helps to try to feed every so often. Sayuki is a designer dog enjoyer and might get one if they get a bigger place. Mako’s mom owns a crusty maltese and Sayuki’s grandparents own a gloster canary.

Wataru- He reads as some sort of tank creature owner, unsure if it’s a mammal like a hamster or a reptile like a gecko, whichever his parents always goaded him into sharing the pets chores with his sister and sometimes cousin.

Kyoichi- he owns no pets personally but on occasion he has to pet sit his grandmothers chihuahua, everyone on Iroha can’t help but think they’re very alike

Seiji- owns a cat he picked up on the side of the road. Like Keisuke, he tries to be friends with every animal but his apartment only allows one pet. Constant user of the phrase ‘if not friend why friend shaped’

Kai- he has always been a bug kid, keeping beetles he find in the wild. As an adult he owns a tarantula named Dumpling. Most of his friends are too afraid of the tarantula to come into his room when they hang out.

Niente panico! Ce l'abbiamo fatta! Ripeto: ce l'abbiamo fatta! Mettetevi seduti e non mi dite che volete andare a letto presto, non si può. Ci sono le millemila novità dell'Aniplex Online Fest 2024 qua, oh! La mega diretta streaming di 4 ore annuale che c'è stata lunedì dai!

Ma Silenzio-kun, se questa roba è uscita lunedì come mai ce la riporti mercoledì sera e pure tardi? Perché se non forzavo le tappe forse arrivava pure giovedì o venerdì. Non scherzo KEKWait.

Purtroppo possiedo un'aura potentissima, ma sfigatissima, che attira inesorabilmente il massimo sforzo. Sempre, in ogni occasione e per qualsiasi cosa. Va da sé che, se mi capita di avere vari impegni e lavori da fare irl, il tutto accade in quella esatta settimana in cui ci sono annunci che vengono fuori dalle fottute pareti: di fine stagione, di inizio stagione, dei simulcast, da questo e da quell'evento. Partono quindi le maledizioni, Yog-Sothoth si sveglia e mi grida che devo smettere di fare casino, la Luna di Sangue si leva su Yharnam, l'armata delle tenebre si raduna sotto casa... poi mi dico che nessuno fa dei report belli come i miei, guardo i trailer, mi calmo e tutto torna a posto. Apertura a bomba con il reveal che mi ha spiazzato di più, sia per la qualità mostrata nel teaser trailer (anche se non so quanto possa essere rappresentativa del prodotto finale, visto che le produzioni di solito molto raramente sono così consistenti), sia per la collaborazione in sé.

Lo studio Shaft (Madoka Magica, Monogatari Series, Un marzo da leoni) sta infatti lavorando con lui, the man, the myth, Yasuomi Umetsu (Kite, Mezzo, Wizard Barristers, Galilei Donna) in persona!

Non si è ben capito se si tratti di una serie tv, di OAV o di film. È stato solo anticipato che la "prima storia", intitolata Clockwork Girl, verrà proiettata ad inizio estate 2025 in due cinema, a Tokyo e a Osaka.

L'unica cosa che posso aggiungere, oltre alla mia trepidazione e curiosità nel vedere cosa hanno combinato, è che la sceneggiatura di questo bombastico action scifi è stata affidata a Yuya Takahashi (Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible, Lupin III: L'avventura italiana).

L'action romcom di Nana Otori sta per diventare una serie animata, che vedremo approdare in streaming su Crunchyroll nel corso del 2025.

Di questa ve ne ho parlato giusto pochi giorni fa e, oltre a un teaserino, è stato svelato chi si sta occupando dell'adattamento.

L’educational adventure slice of life di Keiichiro Shibuya verrà trasformato in una serie televisiva Shingo Fujii (ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister!), che sta dirigendo il tutto presso Studio Bind (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation).

Come vi dicevo, al momento il debutto è atteso per un generico 2025.

Non un grande aggiornamento per l'attesa serie animata tratta dalla novel firmata dal mitico Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!, Baccano!, Dead Mount Death Play). 

Pur essendo passato un anno dall'annuncio, in occasione ell'Anime Expo, e dalla trasmissione dello special Whispers of Dawn, per il momento è stato confermato che il debutto mondiale in anteprima avverrà questo novembre, molto tematicamente, in quel di Los Angeles.

Come lo speciale televisivo del 2023, potremo vedere prossimamente (ma non si sa quando di preciso) la serie in streaming grazie a Crunchyroll.

Il timone presso A-1 Pictures (Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a) rimane saldamente nelle mani di Shun Enokido e Takahito Sakazume, che hanno entrambi già lavorato a  Whispers of Dawn e agli incredibili spot per Fate/Grand Order.

Lo staff è lo stesso della prima stagione, che nel frattempo potete recuperare su Prime Video e Netflix, oltre che in Blu-ray.

La regia insomma è ancora nelle mani di Masayuki Sakoi (Cautious Hero,A3! Season Autumn & Winter) e la produzione è tornata in casa A-1 Pictures (Lycoris Recoil, Mashle: Magic and Muscles).

🔶🔸PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA THE MOVIE: WALPURGISNACHT RISING

Spero abbiate fame perché, nonostante il lungo posticipo, Shaft (Pretty Boy Detective Club, Monogatari Series, Un marzo da leoni) sta chiaramente cucinando forte.

Se ricordate bene, l'inatteso ma più che benaccetto quarto film della saga, era stato programmato per l'inverno 2024 per poi sparire completamente dai radar. Il debutto in sala, ora, è stato fissato per questo inverno.

Il nuovo capitolo nell'onirico mondo di sentimenti e dolore delle maghette di Yukihiro Miyamoto (Magia Record, Arakawa Under the Bridge) vedrà, dunque, la luce ad inizio 2025. Non vedo l'ora che arrivi anche qua in Italia!

🔶🔸 SOLO LEVELING (Stagione 2)

Poche nuove, ma buone nuove. Dall'evento è emersa solamente questa nuova locandina, che ci annuncia che la seconda stagione del popolare action fantasy tratto dall'omonimo fumetto coreano, piazzato sui nostri scaffali da Star Comics, arriverà su Crunchyroll da gennaio 2025.

L'unica cosa in più è che il 29 novembre, i fan giapponesi potranno vedere in anteprima i primi due nuovi episodi della serie, perché verranno proiettati nei cinema assieme al film riassuntivo della prima stagione.

Il breve promo ci dice che la regia è di Kazuya Iwata (7th Time Loop, Love After World Domination) e lo staff al lavoro è quello di Project No.9 (I Tormenti della Vampira Reclusa, Senpai is an Otokonoko).

L'harem romcom di Aya Hirakawa, con al centro le tre feisty sorelle Mikadono, comincerà ad andare in onda nel corso del 2025.

A dirigere la serie c'è Tadahito Matsubayashi (Magical Girl Site) e il tutto sta venendo confezionato presso P.A. Works (Skip and Loafer, Mayonaka Punch). Non so com'è la storia, ma quello che vedo nella locandina mi piace ( ͡ꈍ ͜ʖ̫ ͡ꈍ )

Nuovo fighissimo teaser trailer per Rule of cool The Anime a.k.a. la terza webserie del peculiare franchise supereroistico cinese, in arrivo su Crunchyroll nel 2025, dove già trovate To Be Hero e To Be Heroine.

Come vi avevo già detto in altri post, la regia è affidata a Haoling Li (Heaven Officials Blessing, Link Click) e il progetto è in cantiere presso tre studi.

La colonna sonora, dallo stile inconfondibile, è firmata Hiroyuki Sawano (Kill la Kill, Attack on Titan) e nel cast si riconoscono tanti big fra i doppiatori nipponici. Stavolta hanno deciso di fare le cose in grande! 

🔶🔸BLUE EXORCIST (Stagione 4)

Il nuovo trailer ci ricorda che l'arco narrativo Beyond the Snow sbarcherà finalmente su Crunchyroll dal 5 ottobre!

Da gennaio, invece, si entrerà nel vivo della The Blue Night Saga dell’action soprannaturale tratto dall'omonimo manga creato da Kazue Kato, che possiamo leggere qua in Italia grazie da Panini Comics.

Il webtoon illustrato da HYBE, che fa diciamo da lore espansa per il background della boy band sudcoreana ENHYPEN, diventerà presto un anime che potremo seguire in streaming su Crunchyroll.

Non ne so molto, ma il mix di urban fantasy e teen romance, con al centro scuola, vampiri, licantropi e una ragazza, mi ricorda un po' tanto Twilight. Il nome dell'istituto, Riverfield, invece mi ha fatto subito suonare il campanello di Riverdale, anche se non ci azzecca granché xD

🔶🔸DEMON LORD 2099

Ragazzi, quando ho letto che l'incipit della storia era "Il Signore dei Demoni si risveglia a Night City" non mi aspettavo che diventasse, ehm... uno streamer! Subverting expectations: lo hai fatto bene 😂

La serie è fatta in casa J.C.Staff (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-, DanMachi) e ha come regista Ryo Ando (Interviews with Monster Girls).

È tratta dall'omonima light novel fantasy sci-fi di Daigo Murasaki e anche questa farà parte del palinsesto autunnale di Crunchyroll, con il primo episodio in programma per il 12 ottobre.

🔶🔸I'M GETTING MARRIED TO A GIRL I HATE IN MY CLASS

Di tutti gli stereotipi del genere, quello del "mi devo sposare con tizio/tizia a caso, perché sì" credo sia fra quelli invecchiati più velocemente e male. Ma ehi, una romcom è una romcom e questa va ad infoltire la lista di quelle che potremo vedere da gennaio 2025.

È basata sulla light novel nata dalla penna di Seiju Amano e segna il debutto alla regia di Hiroyuki Oshima; la produzione porta il doppio marchio di Studio Gokumi e AXsiZ (Reborn as a Vending Machine I Now Wander the Dungeon, World's End Harem).

Altro trailer per generare un po' di hype, in vista del ritorno del samurai vagabondo di Nobuhiro Watsuki, che ritroveremo su Crunchyroll dal 3 ottobre. 

Come vi ho già anticipato in un'altra occasione, sono stati confermati altri 24 episodi per la serie remake targata LIDENFILMS (Tokyo Revengers, Insomniacs After School).

Cambia però la regia, che vede Hideo Yamamoto (Cells at Work BLACK, La mia maestra non mostra la coda) essere sostituito da Yuki Komada (Build Divide) pe questo nuovo giro di carrozza.

Gli episodi saranno diretti ancora una volta da Shinichiro Ushijima (Voglio mangiare il tuo pancreas) e inizieranno ad arrivare su Crunchyroll a partire da gennaio 2025.

L'audacia! L'assoluto sprezzo di Aniplex nel ricordarmi, a distanza di 10 anni, quella grandissima cagata delusione di Aldnoah.Zero! Quella chiacchieratissima serie mecha con alle spalle un all star team, che prometteva epicità e drama, ma poi ha portato solo una sequenza di decisioni infelici, con dei twist che hanno costretto al seppuku diversi dei miei neuroni (rest in pepperoni) e un gran finale da dumpster fire di proporzioni leggendarie, degno delle peggiori soapopera.

Come mai rivango tutto questo? Perché il 26 marzo 2025, in Giappone uscirà un nuovo cofanetto Blu-ray della serie, che includerà anche un inedito episodio post epilogo, numerato 24.5 e intitolato Fragment of Rain -The Penultimate Truth-.

Fermiamoci un momento ad interiorizzare una cosa: hanno annunciato questo e non una seconda stagione di 86 - Eighty Six. Let that sink in.

To commemorate Cutie Honey's 50th anniversary, I wanted to post trivia for all 25 episodes. We'll start this week with the first episode: "The Black Claw Grips The Heart."

In the early drafts Honey Kisaragi was originally Honey Tachibana. Honey’s finalized surname name, “Kisaragi” (如月) is a traditional name for February in the Japanese calendar. It refers to the seasonal “changing of clothes.” The name "Honey" comes from the American TV series Honey West.

Honey was voiced by Eiko Masuyama, who would reprise this role a few times over the years, notably in the Re: Cutie Honey audio drama and the Playstation game, Little Witching Mischiefs. She also had a guest spot in Cutey Honey Flash as Dr. Kisaragi’s old friend, Dr. Mitsuko Kanzaki.

The series opens with a report of crimes being committed by Panther Claw. These include taking over the Bank of London, the Louvre and the Saudi family.

The Bank of London seems to be a parody of the The Bank of England. The Louvre is the real-life, world famous art museum in Paris. The Saudi family is likely a reference the House of Saud, the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

St. Chapel Academy is located in Okutama, a mountainous area that’s about an hour and a half away from central Tokyo. St. Chapel itself was most likely inspired or at least named after the real life royal chapel, Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, France. The hymn the students sing during Mass in these early episodes is “Come, Thou Almighty King.”

The freckle-faced girl who stands next to Honey during Mass is her best friend and roommate, Natsuko Aki. Although she’s almost never referred to by her full name but rather “Nat-chan.” Her first name is in reference to natsu or “summer” while aki means “autumn.” In the original manga she is depicted as having pigtails rather than a bob cut and doesn’t have freckles. Natsuko’s anime design was based on an unnamed girl who appeared briefly in the Devilman manga.

Natsuko was voiced by Rihoko Yoshida, who’s best known for voicing the titular character in Majokko Megu-chan, Maria Grace Fried in UFO Robo Grendizer, and Michiru Saotome in Getter Robo. Yoshida would also voice Panther Zora in the 1995 PC-FX video game, Cutey Honey FX. Noriko Watanabe (Sister Jill, Mami) also voiced Natsuko occasionally for whenever Rihoko Yoshida was unavailable.

Honey’s goofy teacher Ms. Alphonne Louis Steinbeck III is based on a male character from Go Nagai’s Kikkai-kun manga. That same Alphonne also served as the basis for Akira Fudo’s teacher in the Devilman TV series. 

Ms. Alphonne was voiced by the late Noriko Tsukase, who had previously voiced Mr. Alphonne’s wife and son in Devilman.

During the early production stages Seiji Hayami was known as Shun Kazami and was described as "falling in love with Honey, despite knowing she’s an android." He would also have a goofy little sister named Zuuko, who would question whether she was really related to her handsome older brother. When the series details were finalized, Seiji became more of a comic relief character and his romantic chemistry with Honey was downplayed. 

Seiji was voiced by Katsuji Mori, who would go on to voice Dr. Kisaragi in Cutie Honey Universe.

Katsuji Mori revealed he had ad-libbed Seiji's lines during Honey's first transformation. Originally, Seiji had no dialogue in that scene.

Honey's motorcyclist form is called "Hurricane Honey" which is possibly an homage to Shotaro Ishinomori's Cyborg 009. The lead character, Joe Shimamura, is sometimes a professional car racer who goes by the nickname "Hurricane Joe."

Seiji refers to Hurricane Honey as kaminari musume (カミナリ娘) which translates to something like “thunder girl.” He’s actually referring to the kaminari zoku (カミナリ族) or “thunder tribes”, Japanese motorcycle gangs who were known for their loud and rowdy modified motorcycles.

Sister Jill is the manager of Panther Claw's Japanese branch and Panther Zora's younger sister. The "Sister" part of her name is likely a reference to a religious sister, circling back to Honey attending a Catholic school. In the original series pitch, she was known as Sister Zora.

Jill is voiced by the late Noriko Watanabe, who also voiced Junpei's girlfriend, Mami.

Black Claw’s name comes from the original series proposal, which described Panther Claw’s soldiers as being color coded. Potential opponents for Honey would’ve included Black Claw, Scarlet Claw, Cobalt Claw and Gold Claw. Each would have possessed a specific skill or element, for example, “Scarlet Claw” would’ve possessed fire powers. For whatever reason the whole color coded aspect was dropped but “Black Claw” was still used as the name for Honey’s first real adversary.

According to Cutey Honey Roman Album published by Tokuma Shoten in 1981, Honey's childhood memories are artificial. They were produced by Dr. Kisaragi because he wanted Honey to have childhood memories like any other human girl.

Dr. Takeshi Kisaragi was originally known as Dr. Seiji Tachibana in the original series proposal. In the original manga Dr. Kisaragi looks noticeably younger, has black hair, no glasses and a goatee instead of a mustache.

Originally, Honey was only going to transform once or twice during the first episode. Tomoharu Katsumata (director for episode one) requested that Honey use all of her main seven forms.

Some of the choreography from Honey and Black Claw’s fight is based on sequences from the Abashiri Family manga, specifically when the lead character Kikunosuke battles against teachers from Paradise Academy.

Junpei is based on Kichiza Abashiri from Go Nagai's The Abashiri Family manga. Kichiza is the youngest son of the Abashiri family and is a master of explosives. Junpei was voiced by Kazuko Sawada.

It’s probably worth noting Honey and Junpei are the only two characters to appear in every episode of Cutie Honey.

Once again, it’s time for your regularly scheduled Sailor Moon content!

This time, we’ll be discussing how Sailor Moon teaches us to appreciate animals, primarily the ones that are unpopular or misunderstood.

To summarize this episode, Usagi’s little brother, Shingo, is deathly afraid of cats, traumatized after having been bitten on the nose by one when he was just a baby. You can probably imagine that meeting Luna for the very first time didn’t go over well……

Anyway, the Dark Kingdom arrives on the scene and hatches a scheme to steal the energy of those who adopt this new “pet” that they name Chanela™ — but not only does this monster (that they’ve clearly created or manufactured in some way) steal energy — it makes its owners TOTAL DICKS. Shingo adopts one and becomes an ASSHOLE (like more of an asshole than usual), especially to Luna. I’m not going to share the gif or even make the gif (because it really sucks to watch it) but SHINGO KICKS LUNA!!!

Don’t worry — she’s okay.

By the end of the episode, Sailor Moon defeats the Dark Kingdom (like she always does) and saves her brother, who runs over to thank her and ask her for an autograph. Sailor Moon convinces him to be nice to Luna from now on, essentially saying that she will bring good fortune to his life or something like that. And because he’s talking to Sailor Moon and definitely not his older sister, he listens to her!

In the very next scene, he does a complete 180, petting her and feeding her breakfast!!

Luna doesn’t know how good she has it for a cat.

And I say this because cats (especially black cats) are one of many species of animal that are villainized for no good reason. I like to believe that at some point, off-screen, Shingo asked himself, instead of demonizing this type of animal, how can I better understand the reasons behind its behavior? Perhaps the cat bit him on the nose as a baby because he pulled its tail, idk. Or perhaps he was just trying to pet the cat, but it was giving off signals that it didn’t want to be pet, which a baby wouldn’t understand and would just ignore — maybe that’s why it bit him. It doesn’t mean that cats are evil.

But yeah. Character growth for the minor characters!

Reason 3: The side characters!

The love the screenwriter put into building the PGSM main cast - Senshi, Shitennou and Endymion is something to always celebrate as a fan of the series. Still, they are not the only ones who benefited from the live-action writing.

Many recurring side characters in the manga/anime had their characters further fleshed out / altered to have their personalities shine in the show. And even better, instead of being a background character most times, most of them actually have significant contributions to the brilliant storytelling PGSM gives us!

Tsukino Ikuko

Speaking of PGSM humour in part 2 of this series of blog posts, it is impossible for one to not discuss one of the most iconic changes and side characters in the live-action series - Usagi's mom!

In the manga and anime, Tsukino Ikuko is a sweet, caring, and typical mother in a Japanese household, except she has questionable lavender hair...

In the live-action, with the exception that Ikuko is a brunette which is quite a normal hair colour, everything else about her is... well, anything but normal. For lack of a better word, she is... eccentric, and is actually the person responsible for many of the shenanigans that occur in the Tsukino family. After watching PGSM, you can definitely tell from where Usagi inherited some of her traits...

Tsukino Ikuko, the yoga practitioner and creator of questionable omelette sauce, is great fun to watch. Her time on screen is not long, but whenever she appears, she SHINES and steals the show with hilarious antics and an amazing grasp of comedic cues worthy of a professional comedian! Not a minute of her screen time is ever wasted!

Tsukino Shingo

In the manga and anime, Tsukino Shingo is basically a smartass brat who loves butt-heading and teasing his older sister Usagi.

In the live-action, Shingo retains the smartass personality, but not much of a misbehaving brat. Instead, his character is further fleshed out that he is actually intelligent, sarcastic, sassy and... perpetually so done with Usagi and Ikuko.

Seriously, this kid is the responsible AND sensible one in the Tsukino household and the holder of all Tsukino brain cells. It is absolutely glorious and a wonder to see how all the sass could fit into his tiny body!

With Shingo and Ikuko together, any scenes of Usagi's home life is bound to leave you in stitches watching the chaos that goes on within its walls!

Present day the actor of little Shingo - Takeshi Naoki is (of course) all grown up, and an acclaimed and prominent stage actor in many musicals and stageplays, especially in the 2.5D world. (Manga/Anime adapted stage productions.)

Furuhata Motoki

Motoki in the live-action takes in both roles from the manga and the 90's anime, where not only does he work in the location that doubles as the Senshi's secret base (manga), but he is also Mamoru's best friend from school (90's anime). But otherwise his involvement in the story kinda just ends there.

In PGSM, Motoki's character is more fleshed out in that besides being a pretty face (because let's be honest, Kikawada Masaya is good-looking!), but he also provides some ongoing comic relief for being a huge turtle fanatic.

BUT! He is so much more than just comic relief! His easy-going, kind and caring nature also helps him become a buffer/translator and insight-provider on certain aspects of Mamoru's character for Usagi when it comes to his best friend. He helps Usagi see past Mamoru's tsundere tendencies, getting past the prickly exterior and seeing the caring side of her eventual fated lover.

... And that's not even the main involvement when it comes to our Senshi team. He has a much more significant role late series. But I shall not say more to keep this spoiler-free!

For long-time Tokusatus fans, Motoki's actor Kikawada Masaya has also continued his tenure in Tokusatsu in other well-known franchises:

Osaka Naru

Across the manga-verse and anime-verse, Osaka Naru is well-known to be a Youma-magnet, rumourmonger extraordinaire, and Usagi's best friend outside of the Senshi team.

In the live-action, Naru continues to play both roles! But her character is a lot more three-dimensional, where she is both sweet and empathetic, but also territorial when it comes to holding her position as Usagi's best friend. So much so, she got bitchy and possessive and caused some teenage drama when she felt her position as Usagi's friend got threatened as Usagi becomes more and more embroiled in the Senshi business. Personally, that was one of my favourite storylines, where it just feels so much more personable and relatable regarding highschool drama and friendship issues. It is one that's close to my heart!

On the other hand, when Usagi encounters adversaries in her school life or love life, Naru is always here as a protector or to cheer Usagi up!

For those who don't now, another fun fact is Naru is played by Sailor Mercury/Mizuno Ami in one of the original Sailor Moon musicals!

The original side characters & villains

There are 2 other original side characters that have recurring appearances and an original villain character that is exclusive to the live-action that I'd love to introduce. (Well, technically there are 2 original villains, but one I'll actually introduce later). But since I said I'll make this mostly spoiler-free, I'll leave them out for now. haha

In my humble opinion, all of them are very well written. They are either there to cause drama - which the live-action has done well to amp up on the angst in the storyline, or there to cause chaos, which frankly is absolutely entertaining and a joy to watch!

And for the record, I especially ADORE the character with the sparkles in the middle. :P
