The species Monstera dubia (shingle plant) has juvenile foliage that clings to a host tree trunk or other surface, until the plant matures and produces leaves with splits called fenestrations. This plant is becoming popular as a houseplant.

"SHINGLE STRIKE," Vancouver News Herald. May 2, 1934. Page 2. --- 50 Weavers Quit Work Over Wage Scale ---- Fifty shingle weavers, including several Chinese, employed by the Sterling Shingle Mills, have gone on strike, resulting from failure of negotiations that have been under way for several days with the mill owners, it was reported to the Vancouver, New Westminster & District Trades & Labor Council Tuesday night.

It was stated by a delegate from the Shingle Weavers' Union that dispute had arisen over the scale of wages in regard to shingles turned out for the domestic and export markets. After hearing the delegate the Trades Council gave its endorsement to the strike.

MY GIRL UMHA finally in her much needed upgrade! That’s how her inclosure started, had to take the sedum out bc aphids hatched out on it :( I’ll need to root it in treated soil and give it a month or two. + Ulu who got upgraded too.
