Sanemi should have died during the final battle.
Look I love Sanemi.
He's my favorite hashira but for his mental sake and mine, he should have died.
The man legit had nobody left.
His mother, dead.
Masachika (One of his best friends), dead.
Kanae (It was proven that Sanemi enjoyed talking to her), dead.
Rengoku (Everybody likes the dude), dead.
Ubuyashiki (parental figure), dead.
Shinobu (He checked on her from time to time), dead.
Iguro (his besto friendo), dead.
Genya (No explanation needed), dead.
the only one remotely close to him that is alive was Uzui. (Sanemi saw him as an older brother.)
but still.
HE SHOULD HAVE REUNITED WITH EVERYBODY!?!?
reason 362 of why I hate Kyogo:
Tumblr media
NOOOO DON'T!???!????
PLEASE DONT!???!????!?!
DONT BE TOUGH!!???!?!??!
MOTHER FUCKER STAY DEAD PLEASE!???!?!?!?
sources so people dont think im fucking myself over:

I already read Shinazuagawa family tree from KnY Fanbook and it says:
Tumblr media
Although that solves which is the youngest child which is Koto (the kid that sleeps in Genya's arms and the smallest one among the other siblings).
Tumblr media
I'm still confuse who's who among the siblings, because when I'm searching the name didn't match up the character. Like which one is Sumi, is it the red one or the green one? Because I search her name and she ends up with two pictures. In website A she's the red one, but in website B she's the green one.
Tumblr media
All I know is:
Shizu [mother]
Kyogo [father]
Sanemi [1st child/1st son]
Genya [2nd child/2nd son]
Koto [7th child/5th son]
The rest is Sumi, Teiko, Shuya, and Hiroshi. I don't know who's who here. I hope someone tell me the correct information.

Note
We need more drawings of Sumi and the Shinazugawa brothers. Either with Genya or Sanemi, it doesn't matter. If I had to give an idea, it would be that by accident or by an attack, Sumi ended up with a nasty scar on her face and jokingly says something like "well, now you could say I'm one of yours I guess".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile Sanemi caught the culprit and he is giving it an old “ treat” before Sanemi allow its soul to rest in pieces

How large do you think the Shinazugawa dad was compared to their mom in size measurements?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmm...
I tell ya', Anon, I am really bad at eyeballing measurements. But as a point of reference, Sanemi is 179cm. So take it from there, I guess?
EDIT: Anon, please see the notes on this post for a helpful assessment by @nenesleepyhead !

that one scene in the kny manga w/ sanemi and his mom but in writing ;-; (collab w/ @naomithenomes)
Huh? This must be the afterlife.
The air hung heavy with a sense of gloominess. Faint sounds of memories seemed to cruise throughout the blurry setting. However, the sounds seemed delayed, as if the thick atmosphere seemed to drag them down.
The memories weren’t all pleasant; some, long forgotten, formed as faint echoes. But most were distorted to the point where Sanemi couldn't even make out a single word. This seemed to have been the somewhere in between. Purgatory.
I must have reached 25.
"Ma?" He called out. He walked around in the abyss for a while, trying to catch even a glimpse of his mother's figure. He needed to ask a favor.
He wandered the seemingly endless grey canvas when soon, he came across a woman. A small figure, wearing a faded yellow kimono. Her back was turned to him, but he recognized her immediately.
"Oh.. hey, Ma," he greeted. She turned to face him, silent, with distraught eyes.
"Ma, accompany me to heaven," he said.
She shivered and withdrew into the shadows, "I-I can't."
He saw this and stepped forward, refusing to let her be swallowed into the darkness. "Why not?! Come with me!"
"No... I cannot go with everyone else," she cried. "I harmed my own children, so I cannot go to heaven."
She must have been waiting in this expanse for a while now. Torn between what must be her fate in hell or her family.
"Very well. Then I will go with you," he settled. "Besides, if I went there too soon, Genya would be sad.”
I will carry you to hell on my back.
a/n: hope you like! its funny cuz i have the creativity and motivation and she has the grammarly premium ass mind lol

Unhinged theory
Okay so this theory is complete bullshit and doesn't have any merit but I just wanted to get it out of my system.
Tumblr media
I wonder why Shizu didn't eat the kids the moment she killed them. Like we know that when you're turned into a demon you're overcome by a hunger so great that you won't be able to think straight.
Tumblr media
Like okay, maybe she wanted to finish off Genya before she started feasting but she could have just eaten them, it's not like Genya posed any actual danger and her movements were too calculated like oneshotting all 4 kids including Koto and breaking the lights right before attacking Genya.
Tumblr media
So here's my theory, I think Shizu deliberately killed her kids. Why? Because she was tired of them. Y'know how becoming a demon brings out the twisted version of your soul like Akaza's fighting, Dakis obsession with beauty and Gyutaros hatred of humanity, and Hantengu's entire existence? What if Shizu deep down was tired of being a mom? And she low-key resented her kids? What if she was tired of seeing them suffer?
Genya said she was very small but what if in reality she was just very young? Like in her late teens? It's not so out there after all Tamayo is 19 biologically and she had a husband and kids. Shizu could have been 14 or 15 when she had Sanemi.
So this is a young girl, married this older man, probably out of necessity or against her will, and given Kyogo's violence there's a chance that some of the kids were a product of rape.
Tumblr media
She's living in poverty, married to an absolute dick of a husband who beats her all while trying to make ends meet and take care of SEVEN kids!
Even for the Taisho era, seven kids is a lot and other people seem to think so too, in the light novel Genya remembers how their landlord's son used to taunt them as 'the poor people with a lot of kids'.
The thing that really cemented this theory for me is the afterlife scene with Sanemi. Her shame. Not sadness or despair but shame. Shame so strong she doesn't even want to alert her kids to her existence and she covers her face and hides when she sees Sanemi. What if that shame stems from guilty? Guilt over her resentment towards her kids?
Tumblr media
I'm not saying that Shizu hated her kids, but what if she was just...tired? Tired of being used as a punching bag? Tired of seeing her babies get hurt and go hungry every night? Tired of being treated like dirt and having people make fun of her family? Tired of being judged for circumstances that were out of her control? Tired of struggling? Tired of her life? Tired of everything?
Tumblr media
Regarding Sanemi and Genya, I feel like they both have an idealized image of their mother and that's probably why Sanemi refused to accept the knowledge that Nezuko could resist attacking humans by thinking about her family, because then he would have to face the truth that maybe their mother never really loved them? Or that her love wasn't as strong as he thought?
It's a really hard pill to swallow for a lot of us because we don't want to think about the fact that our moms, even if they love us or at least tolerate us, may not have wanted us or may have thought their lives would've been better if they hadn't had us.
This isn't uncommon in real life either. The subreddit r/regretfulparents has over 120k members, then there's this insightful thread where parents who regret having kids share their feelings, there's also experiences from women here and here.
Something to think about. I'm sorry but I feel like the Shinazugawa kids, all they truly had was each other and they didn't know it. They never really stood a chance.

Yea so...

Okay hear me out!
Sanegiyuu, they're dating. Giyuu makes ohagi for Sanemi and they eat it while on a date and it tastes like his mother and that makes Sanemi cry.
i don't wanna talk about this rq being from october
It had taken much effort on Giyuu's part. He'd gone as far as hiring Mitsuri as his teacher (he actually paid her) to learn, taking several days and wasting many ingredients before he perfected it. Sort of. But the lopsided group of ohagi was better than nothing, and Giyuu gratefully thanked Mitsuri before hurrying off with his bundle of sweets. He was late in arriving and Sanemi was evidently impatient, tapping his foot as he waited for Giyuu. He looked slightly relieved when Giyuu appeared, but masked it with his irritation.
"Took your sweet fuckin' time," he grunted, but took Giyuu's outstretched hand so they could start on their way.
Giyuu apologized, tucking the bag of ohagi into his sleeve.
Somewhere during the date, he got tired of trying to hide it and presented it to Sanemi. Sanemi took it curiously, unwrapping the cloth and peeking into the container.
"Ohagi?" he asked, peering at it suspiciously.
Giyuu nodded sheepishly. "I made it," he explained. "Kanroji helped me."
"Oh." Sanemi paused. "Kanroji?"
"I didn't know who else could make it..."
Apparently finding this reasonable, Sanemi opened the container and picked one up, pretending not to cringe when it ungracefully nearly fell apart. But he ate it, finishing the first ohagi and humming to himself. Giyuu waited nervously, watching as Sanemi paused. There seemed to be very little reaction at first, but then Sanemi picked up another ohagi, this time taking longer to eat it. He looked almost lost, a bit in his own world as he chewed.
Unable to wait much longer (and just getting worried it was terrible), Giyuu mumbled, "Is it okay?"
He took the container back, a bit fidgety, and picked one of the not-quite-dense enough mochi balls and bit into it. It seemed fine, really. It seemed a touch too sweet, but it certainly was better than he'd expected it. What with Sanemi's silent reaction.
"I- I like it," Sanemi finally said, swallowing. His voice seemed tense, a bit off. He drank some water quickly and Giyuu brushed it off as the ohagi being too dry, or something.
"You do?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I do." Sanemi ducked his head down, finishing his second ohagi.
Giyuu frowned. "Are you okay?" he fretted, concerned. Was Sanemi sick? Had the ohagi made him sick?? Oh, god, maybe it did. ...could someone get sick that quickly?
Sanemi nodded. "'m fine. Sorry. One moment." He took in a shaky breath. Turning slightly so he was angled subtly away from Giyuu, he swiped at his eyes with the hand he hadn't used for the ohagi, swallowing again.
It took a moment for Giyuu to place that. It hit him as familiar, but he only understood a minute later that—"Are you... crying?" he blurted out, immediately regretting his words. He was such an idiot for just-
Sanemi grumbled. "No. I'm not," he huffed. He looked up then, at least, which only proved Giyuu right. His eyes were vaguely glassed over, and he was blinking quickly. "I'm not," he insisted, when Giyuu couldn't suppress a knowing look.
With the concern for Sanemi and worry that it was his own fault, Giyuu opened his arms. Sanemi hesitated only a moment before sinking into the embrace, burying his head into Giyuu's shoulder so he could hide his head.
"I'm not fucking crying," he grumbled, voice muffled by Giyuu's haori. Still, he clung onto him for several minutes until his breathing seemed to steady out. Then he sat up, pointedly turned away to rub at his eyes, then looked back at Giyuu.
"What happened?" Giyuu asked, forgetting that he should maybe just leave it be. But Sanemi answered, picking up Giyuu's half eaten ohagi and finishing it to busy himself.
"Nothing." Then, only a second later: "My mom used to make ohagi. When I was younger."
Giyuu took a moment to process that. He knew that Sanemi's only living family member was Genya (despite the protests), so that meant that his mother must've died. Which made him feel terrible for making ohagi—although he wondered, briefly, why Sanemi ate it so much if memories rose like that from Giyuu's shitty attempt at ohagi.
Sanemi continued, ignorant of Giyuu's thoughts. "She used to make it real sweet 'cause we couldn't have things like that a lot. Ohagi was always my favorite of the ones she made and she sometimes let us help make it with her," he mumbled. "Some of them were like these—kinda fucked up and distorted. But it just. Reminded me of them. Didn't mean'ta... uh. Yeah."
"Oh."
"'Oh,'" Sanemi mocked, rolling his eyes.
Giyuu pouted. "Sorry, uhm. It's okay. I'm sorry that I made you think of that," he said quickly. "I'm glad you didn't get sick or something, though."
"Sick?" Sanemi scrunched his nose. "From what?"
"The ohagi."
"You can't... get sick that quickly..." he said, raising an eyebrow. Then he grinned. "Fuckin' dumbass."
"Hey! I made you ohagi...!" Giyuu protested, ducking away from Sanemi's playful but dangerous hand.
Sanemi scoffed. "And made me cry, yeah," he grunted. He ignored Giyuu's pointed look at his admission, and went on. "Let's just finish and then go to your house. I bet you made a mess while making this and forgot to clean it up."
Giyuu stayed quiet, knowing full well Sanemi was right. Instead of answering, he helped Sanemi settled back down so they could finish eating. He made a quick, mental note to add extra sugar just for Sanemi, if he ever made ohagi again.

sanemi and his inability to protect the ones he loves
just a reminder that sanemi couldnt save any of the people he loved
made a promise with genya to protect their family since their dad died. they died the exact same night to their mother who was turned into a demon. his mentor? the person who gave him the capabilities to slay demons? died to a lower rank. his younger brother who he joined the corp for just to protect him and let him live an easier life? died to upper rank 1 kokushibo and disintegrated into ash as if he were a demon.
he tried to hard to protect his family and loved ones but in the end it was all for nothing

Inspired By sarcastic Kaz's swap!trauma response au.
What if Genya couldn't take it anymore? What if his mind just shut down after hearing Sanemi say that to him?
Genya was pathetic
Villagers, sneering at him for his dirty clothes and bruises. Slayers, looking down on him for not using breathing styles. His father sperm donor, cursing him out while stepping on his mother.
His mother.
Shizu
A woman who looked as if she would shatter underneath any sort of physical contact. A woman who Genya knew could last hours being beaten up, after all they lived with the same abuser. A woman who would sing Genya lullabies after Kyogo that bastard hit a little too hard.
His mother.
His mother, the person that came home too late one night.
His mother, the person that extended her claws on people she vowed to protect.
His mother, laying in his hands as he screamed at the one person who saved him, calling him a murder.
Genya knew he was pathetic.
That still didn't change the sinking feeling of absolute despair when he heard what Sanemi said about him.
"Absolutely useless. Can't even use a single breathing style. And he eats demons? Talk about a scum. Deserves to rot in hell."
Genya thought that because he helped take down uppermoon 4, his brother, his own kin would be proud of him.
It was a measly thought. A thought that was a string. A string that kept his sanity intact.
The string snapped.
And so did his sanity.
"Hm? Where am I?"

Why Sanemi and Genya are not their father
Of the very little but critical we know about Shizu Shinazugawa in her character's introduction it is obvious that she shares her core qualities with her eldest sons.
The anger of the boys might be attributed to their abusive father, as the saying goes "if you're raised with an angry man in your house there will always be an angry man in your house" but her relentless hard work day and night is echoed in their own dedication and effort in becoming demon slayers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their courage to face off demons is akin to her bravery taking on her husband, while her protective instincts are evident in Genya and Sanemi's overprotective nature
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another discernible trait of hers is a sense of responsibility, which manifests in the brothers desire to share the burden of raising their family and supporting each other
Tumblr media
Similarly, they share a deep sense of gentleness and care; their mother being described as"his mother who had passed away also had gentle and warm hands" Sanemi"because my Nii-chan is the nicest person in the world" and genya "Genya was also very kind he would stand out to protect those who are around him— to protect his comrades".
Lastly, the three Shiazugawa(s) bear immense unreasonable guilt, Shizu for murdering her own children despite being turned against her own will, Genya for accusing his brother of murder and Sanemi's self-imposed role as the head of the household, coupled with his belief that he failed to provide stability and happiness for his family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thus we could see that these individuals are remarkably similar in what truly counts— their values, their hearts and their essence.

Shinazugawa Trauma(🎀)
Gotta have that tragic backstory!
But what version?
Chances are whichever brother isn't the demon is gonna be the one to kill the demon brother. Sorry, boys! Context below the cut.
So, I'm working on Shizu's backstory. And since she's not becoming the demon Shinazugawa, someone else has to. Because this family is just trauma in a box, and cannot catch a break.
But I am stumped on which version to go with. I had considered having Shizu being the one to fight against/kill one of her sons as an option. But then I considered the sweet, sweet angst of her, seeing one of her oldest two sons wounded and fading away with his brother covered in his blood and standing over him, accidentally comparing the living son to Kyogo. And the utter devastation on both sides when that happens.
Characters in my fanfics never get peace until Muzan is dead...
