Summary:

While on their way to Tianchuk, Master Samjang and Son Oh- gong hear that there is a demon that freezes the village in a village they arrive at. They are captured by the dragon woman and she turned Samjang into a skeleton. After coming to his senses, Son Oh-gong goes to the Bone Palace where the dragon woman is, rescues the three masters, Sao-jeong, and Jeo Ba-gye, who have turned into skeletons, and defeats the dragon woman. In 1967, a particularly productive year for South Korean animation, as many as three films were released. The first three in the country: A Story of Hong Gil-dong (1967), directed by Dong-heon Shin; Heungbuwa Nolbu, directed by Gang Tae-ung in stop motion; and Hopi and Chadol Bawi, second part of the opening, also directed by Dong-heon Shin.

After this extraordinary boost to the country's animated industry, in 1968 two other feature films were released that, yes, are less well known: Golden Iron Man and the one in question, both signed by Park Yeong-il -and not by Bak Young- il, as it erroneously appears in some sources-. The one that stars in this review was his debut as a feature film director and is such a rarity that it does not have a file on IMDb. On the other hand, it does appear in the Korean Movie Database, which incidentally allows me to discover that it was produced in 1967 and that Park Yeong-il had already directed at least a couple of animated shorts before embarking on this project.

In fact, in the second volume of his history of world animation, Giannalbeto Bendazzi mentions Park Yeong-il as one of the three authors of what he calls "the first real animation," an independent short titled The Ant and the Grasshopper. (Gaemi Wa Bechangi), based on Aesop's fable, which he made together with Jeong Do-bin and Han Seong-hak. In that same work, by the way, the Italian refers to this film as Journey to the West (Sonogong).

Son Oh-gong -손오공-, which also is translated into English as Princess Seonhwa and Sonogong, is the fourth animated feature film to adapt Pilgrimage to the West, the 1590 Chinese literature classic. It is preceded by two Chinese films, Tie shan gong zhu (1941), directed by the Guchan brothers and Wan Laiming, and The Rebellion of King Kun fu sun (1964), Wan Laiming's second attempt, this time with Cheng Tang; and a Japanese one, Alakazam the Great (1959), produced by Tôei Dôga and directed by Daisaku Shirakawa and Taiji Yabushita based on the manga The Legend of Son Goku (Boku no Songoku), by the great Osamu Tezuka.

Narratively, it is not wonderful and the shortcomings of the Korean animation industry are noticeable in the most technically complex scenes, but the design of the characters is achieved, especially that of the fearsome woman faced by the monkey protagonist that gives the title to the movie. film. The expressive character design, along with Jeon Jong-kun's inspired soundtrack make it a rarity worth seeking out, even if it's far from an essential work of South Korean animation.

As the air rifle business was on track, and I knew too much about Moon’s relationships with women, they didn’t need me any more – even though I had invented the air rifle that could use buckshot! I, the inventor, was no longer needed. They were hinting that I should quit.

One day in 1971, I thought that I would have a talk with Moon, who had just come back to Korea from the U.S. I contacted Choi Won-pok, whom the church members surrounding her called ‘Mother.’ She was the closest of the attendants to Moon. She told me that I could meet Moon without making an appointment – I just needed to come to the church. So I went. As usual many people were gathered around waiting to see Moon. As the midnight curfew approached, one by one people started to go home. I had to wait until eventually only Moon and I were left. When I straightened my back thinking “Finally I can discuss thoroughly about the future,” Moon passed behind me and disappeared into the room next door. I thought he was going to the restroom and waited, but he never came back.

I am a gentle person but this made me furious. My whole body was shaking with anger, and I couldn’t steady myself. I had devoted all kinds of work and service to Moon and the Unification Church. I had received an award for enduring prison with Moon, a model award, a 14-year achievement award and an award for mission work. I spent most of my time at the church, and had served him day and night, following him around like a shadow. I had never opposed his teachings or given him any trouble. The Hangul part of the title (the text at the left in red) is "어디로 가시나이까" or "Where Are You Going?". The Hanja Part - I had to trace it in the search bar od Naver Hanja dictionary! Translates to "전하" or "Your Majesty", basically how one was supposed to address the King. So, we got the title : 어디로 가시나이까 전하" or "Where Are You Going, Your Majesty?"

Im trying to find some cast and crew credits - once we have that, we can search for more info on the net.

Copying the ehite and yellow text on the rtop ight into hanja dictionary gave me "제작 : 김일수" , "Release : Kim Il Soo" and "기획 - 김속기, 안배관" "Production : Kim sok Gi, Ahn Bae Kwan"

the Blue text in the right gave me "답 : 이규웅", "... : Lee Gyu Woong". The Hanja in the beginning was picked up wrong because of the bad quality. But I can't find who this person is...

The text under the blue text om the right have me "원작 - 교본 - 임희재" "Orginal Work - Script - Lim Hee Jae" - which means that there is a separate book or other original piece that this drama was based on, by a writer named Lim Hee Jae.

Thats all I could find for the moment, so I went and searched it up. And I found so much more!

Its not a drama but a movie. Kinda expected given the poster.

It was released 1969.

The cast is fucking crazy for 1969 - Shin Sung Il, Kim Jin Gyu, Kim Ji Mi and Yoon Jung Hee. That's literally the top two actors with the top two actresses. This is one HELL of a star lineup, believe me.

The plot of the movie goes like this :

At the end of the Korean Empire, when the enlightenment groups centered on Kim Ok-gyun (Kim Seok-hoon) caused a Coup d'etat, Min Young-il (Namgung Won), the nephew of the Empress Myeongseong (Do Geum-bong), seeks help from the Qing Dynasty to defeat the enlightenment groups. Lee Jung-won (Shin Seong-il), who was Kim Ok-gyun's colleague, fled to Japan with the help of Wolhyang (Kim Ji-mi), a popular famed Gisaeng. While he went to Japan, Lee Jung-won's family, which was against the odds, was exterminated, and only his wife In-soon (Yoon Jung-hee) survived. In-soon is in crisis because she caught the sight of Min Young-il, who was once her husband's friend, but Min Young-il leaves In-soon, who had to hide her identity, to Wolhyang, who suggests Insoon starts living with her. After that, In-soon, who became a gisaeng too, lives with Wolhyang, and two women wait while adoring and missing the same Lee Jung-won, but each other do not know that the man is Lee Jung-won. After that, when Lee Jung-won returns from Japan, the film comes to a tragic end.

It mixes facts with fiction and is basically a fictional sageuk.

    “Chin-gu” (친구), ou “Friend” pour la distribution internationale, est un film d’action dramatique sud-coréen datant de 2001, écrit et réalisé par Kwak Kyung-taek, à qui l’on doit également “The Classified File” (2015). Les acteurs principaux Yu Oh-seong, qu’on a pu voir dans “The Great Battle” (2018), Jang Dong-gun, qu’on a pu voir dans “No Tears for the Dead” (2014), Seo Tae-hwa, qu’on a pu voir dans “Norigae” (2012), et Jung Woon-taek, qu’on a pu voir dans “City of Damnation” (2008). Ce métrage est paru le 31 mars 2001 en Corée.

L’histoire proposée par “Friend” nous invite à suivre la vie de quatre amis d’enfance : Joon-seok (Yu Oh-seong), le chef du groupe dont le père est un puissant patron de la mafia ; Dong-su (Jang Dong-gun), bras-droit de Joon-seok, dont le père est un entrepreneur de pompes funèbres, Jung-ho (Jung Woon-taek) le clown de la bande ; et Sang-taek (Seo Tae-hwa), qui s’avère être un étudiant exemplaire. Enfants, ils jouent ensemble, au collège, ils font les 400 coups, et au lycée les destins commencent à se mettre en place, Joon-seok et Dong-su étant les petits caïds de leur établissement scolaire. Après avoir obtenu leur diplôme, Sang-taek et Jung-ho partent pour l’université, laissant leurs deux autres camarades s’engager dans des gangs mafieux. Les années passent, Joon-seok et Dong-su sont désormais opposés et une animosité se fait de plus en plus forte, au grand désespoir de Sang-taek et Jung-ho, qui sont désormais cantonnés à être des spectateurs passifs de la rivalité grandissante…

“Friend” est considéré par beaucoup de passionnés comme l’un des premiers classiques à sortir de la nouvelle vague coréenne. Il semble avoir fait ses preuves par rapport à bon nombre de ses contemporains à la même époque. À un moment donné, il fut le film coréen le plus rentable de tous les temps et a mérité, à juste titre, un tas de prix lors de divers festivals et autres cérémonies dédiées au cinéma. Ce film se démarque immédiatement de la plupart des films de l’époque où il a été tourné, en installant son récit dans les rues de Busan plutôt que dans la métropole animée de Séoul. Cela donne un aspect et une sensation uniques allant jusqu’à une forte implication des acteurs, utilisant le dialecte local.

Kwak Kyung-taek, qui endosse ici la double casquette de scénariste et de réalisateur, a précisé que son film était semi-autobiographique, et cela donne une dimension passionnelle au récit de son premier long-métrage. Passion qui n’était plus aussi présente dans ses films suivants, tels que les thrillers d’action “Typhoon” (2005) et “Eye for an Eye” (2008). Il n’était donc guère surprenant qu’en 2009, il soit revenu vers les personnages de ce premier film, donnant une suite intitulée “Friend 2, The Great Legacy” que je souhaite visionner rapidement dans la foulée de ce premier opus.

“Friend” s’inscrit dans un rythme plutôt modéré avec plusieurs scènes explosives. Les événements sont racontés à intervalles réguliers, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1990, et sont présentés par le personnage incarné par Jung Woon-taek, avec une certaine nostalgie en regardant ainsi les années passer. Cette narration ne sert pas seulement à faire avancer l’histoire, elle permet également au spectateur de s’immerger dans les émotions d’une personne qui regarde en arrière avec probablement les regrets qui l’accompagnent. À mi-parcours, les personnages campés par Yu Oh-seong et Jang Dong-gun, prennent une orientation dans leur vie qui se présente comme étant plus sombre que celle des deux autres, qui veulent rester concentrés sur leurs études. Inévitablement, les mondes de deux protagonistes ayant décidé d’œuvrer dans les gangs, sont nettement plus violents. Cette violence est dépeinte de manière brutale et s’achèvera dans la mort d’un des personnages principaux dans une séquence singulièrement féroce et brutale.

D’une manière générale, les valeurs de production du film sont tout à fait acceptables pour un film d’une vingtaine d’années. La photographie présentée par Hwang Gi-seok est d’un très bon niveau. Le cinéaste marque bien les différentes périodes en multipliant les visuels et en gardant quelques lieux symboliques en référence, comme l’établissement mortuaire du père de Dong-su. La bande originale a été confiée à plusieurs compositeurs. En effet, Choi Man-sik, Choi Sun-sik, Im Ju-hui, Choe Seung-yeon, Oh Hye-won, et Luc Baiwir ont oeuvré de concert pour proposer l’accompagnement musical du film. Différentes sonorités viennent accompagner chaque période de manière significative. Enfin, le montage délivré par Park Gok-ji, offre un bon équilibre entre les passages violents et la mise en place de la relation de plus en plus délétère entre les deux principaux protagonistes. Rappelons que ce cinéaste œuvre dans le septième art depuis 1987 et qu’il a déjà plus de 100 métrages à son actif.

En conclusion, “Friend” est un bon film d’action fortement pigmenté par le drame à la sauce gangster. Le métrage dispose d’une histoire classique mettant en avant les distanciations qui s’installent en fonction des choix de vie des protagonistes. Le rythme est modéré, le récit est fluide et la narration est linéaire, en dehors de la scène de fin, qui nous ramène au début du film. La photographie est de bonne qualité, la bande originale est plaisante et le montage est maîtrisé. La distribution offre de bonnes prestations, et bien que le récit est sur quatre personnages, le focus se place essentiellement sur deux d’entre eux, permettant à Yu Oh-seong et Jang Dong-gun de sortir du lot. L’ensemble reste agréable à regarder malgré le poids des années…

hello everyone! because my curiosity got the better of me, i started a project where i went through the entirety of the devil judge to learn more about what books were used within the show.

while i have found a good chunk of them with the help of @maystea and @thequillandscreen​, there are some that i cannot identify due to shot angles and quality of scenes. however, i wanted to make this post because i think it’s fascinating.

most of the books in these posts belong to yohan, but there are a few haphazard ones here and there. we’ve done our best to not only find the book title and authors but links to these books, as well. i also make note of books that have no author, are a prop book or ones that we were not able to identify.

 Dönem dizisi sevmeyenlerin bir kez daha düşünmesine neden olacağına eminim. Bende dönem dizilerine ön yargılı olmama rağmen bu dizi benim bütün beklentilerimi karşıladı. Dizinin orijinali “Tai zi fei sheng zhi ji” (“Go Queen Go” ) isimli bir Çin dizisi. Konusu ise; günümüzde yaptığı işte en iyisi olmayı her zaman kendisine hedef koyan yakışıklı bir şef, Blue House'da ülkenin en iyi politikacıları için çalışmaktadır. Elde ettiği bu başarının yanı sıra, vurdum duymaz, başına buyruk ve son derece çapkın olan Jang Bong-hwan ( Choi Jin-hyuk ) bir gün yanlış bir insanla flörtleşir. Blue House da başlayan kovalamacanın sonunda şefimiz yüksek bir kattan havuza düşer ve Joseon döneminde Kraliçe Kim So Yong’un  ( Shin Hye-sun ) bedeninde gözlerini açar. Kral Cheoljong ( Kim Jung-hyun ) ile yeni evlenmiştir ve bütün sarayın varis beklentisi vardır. Kraliçe Kim So Yong ise şefimiz ile aynı zamanlarda göle düştüğü için bir süre bilinci kapalı kalmış sonra şefimizin ruhu ile uyanmıştır. İlk etapta kraliçenin ruhunun da şefin içine girmiş olduğunu varsayıyoruz.  

Dizinin orjinali ile Kore versiyonu arasında bariz farklar görmek mümkün. Çin versiyonunu izlemedim ama onun konusu kadın bedenindeki bir erkeğin kral ile olan aşkını anlatıyormuş. Kore’de uyarlamanın çekilmeye başlandığı ilk zamanlar iki erkeğin aşkı anlatılması nedeniyle ciddi eleştiriler almış. Aynı zamanda orijinali kitap uyarlamasıymış ve kitabın yazarı Xian Chen, yakın zamanda Kore kültürü ve insanları için saldırgan yazılar paylaşıyormuş. Koreli yapımcılar bu kadar çok tepki gördüğü için karakterlerde değişiklik yapmış ve dizinin finali tekrar yazılmış. Benim düşüncem buna rağmen dizi boyunca her ne kadar bir kadın bir erkek izlemiş olsak da diyalogların hepsi iki erkek arasında geçiyor.

Kraliçe Kim So Yong’a hayat veren Shin Hye-Sun’un önünde şapka çıkartıyorum. Böyle bir oyunculuk sergilemiş olması inanılmazdı. Erkek ruhlu, kadın görünümlü halleri gerçekten takdir edilesiydi. Kim Jung-hyun ise her ne kadar Shin Hye-Sun’un gölgesinde kalsa da onunda son derece başarılı olduğunu söylemeden geçmeyeyim. Crash Landing On You dizisinde kalbimizi kıran başarılı oyuncu, burada da kendini kanıtlamış oldu.

Diziye dönecek olursak, kraliçemiz aslında günümüzün şefi olduğu için, Joseon döneminde de ilk gittiği yer mutfak oluyor. O dönemde var olmayan yemekleri yaptığı sahnelerde ben çok keyif aldım. Hatta bu sahnelerin çok daha fazla olmasını bekledim. Saray aşçısı ile atışmaları ve garip arkadaşlıkları çok keyifliydi. Öte yandan şefimizin anne ve babası tarih eğitmeni oldukları için bütün kralları ve o dönemi ezbere biliyordu. Sıkışıp kaldığı dönem, kukla kral ya da sapık kral diye tarihe geçmişti. Ülkenin kralı gibi görülse de bütün güç aslında bir önceki kralın ilk eşindeydi. Yani sonunu bildiği bir tarihin içinde kimin tarafını tutması gerektiğini de gayet iyi biliyordu. Buna rağmen bölümler ilerledikçe kralın hiç de tarih kitaplarında anlatılan gibi olmadığını anlıyor ve ikisi arasında bir arkadaşlık doğuyor. Kraliçe içinde erkek şefimizin ruhu olmasından kaynaklı romantik yakınlaşmalardan kaçınırken, kralımızda politik nedenlerle evlendiği kraliçeden kaçınıyordu.

Dizinin ilk başlarında Shin Hye-Sun’un oyunculuğuna hayran kalsam da iki erkeğin romantik bir yakınlaşma yaşamasını hiç istemedim. Zaten kukla kralımız, cariyelerden birini seviyor, kraliçe ile çok ilgilenmiyordu. Bu seferde dizide romantizm olmayacak olması beni rahatsız etmeye başladı. Öte yandan izlemeyi de bırakamadım. İlk bölümler böyle ilerlerken kraliçenin öncesindeki hayatını bilmediğimiz için yaşanılan aşk üçgenlerine biraz uzak kalıyorsunuz. Kim kiminle ne yaşamış diye merakla izliyorsunuz. Ben kendi adıma, ‘artık kendi bedenine dönsün böyle olmaz’ bile dedim. Ama biraz ilerledikten sonra kraliçenin anılarını şefimizde hatırlamaya başlıyor. Yavaş ve parça parça gelen bu anlardan sonra aslında bir bedende iki ruh olduğunu anlıyoruz. Bu noktada artık rahatsız olmamaya başladım. Hatta önünde sonunda bedenine dönecek olması beni üzdü. Hep burada kalsın istedim.

Ayrıca yan karakterlerde diziye bambaşka tatlar katıyordu. Kraliçenin hizmetlileri ile kurduğu ekip ve onların sahneleri oldukça eğlenceliydi. Dağarcığımıza “MAMAAA” kelimesini eklediler. Birde dizi içine yedirilmiş İngilizce kelimeler vardı. O dönemde anlam ifade etmediği için, komik anlar oluşturuyorlardı. Örneğin no-touching kelimesinin bambaşka yorumlanması gibi.

2020-2021 de çok başarılı diziler izledim. İzlediğim ilk dönem dizisi olarak bu dizinin de başarılı diziler arasında olduğunu gönül rahatlığı ile söyleyebilirim. OST’ları da dizi kadar eğlenceli. Özellikle bir şarkı var ki, adeta koreli Hayko Cepkin dinliyor gibi hissettim.

About Joseon!Demon Slayer AU

The setting of this Demon Slayer AU is in Joseon Dynasty, Korean dynastic kingdom that lasted for over five centuries. It was the last dynastic kingdom of Korea. Founded by Yi Seong-gye in July 1392, and replaced by the Korean Empire in October 1897. So in this AU, it is around mid 1400s of Joseon Dynasty (15th Century). And yes, ALL characters’ name will be in Korean. Because of its society and diffrences from original, there are couple of characters gender-bent and some Headcanons involved. And maybe few OCs.

This AU will have more informations of beginning of Joseon Dynasty’s cultures, its influences by Buddhism and Confucianism, Korean Folk religion, each demon based on Korean folktale monsters/spirits/demons. There are mentions of other dynasties before Joseon.
