3 Jdramas about Japanese Culture in Kyoto that I watched and love
They're relaxing comedy slice of life dramas about a Maiko House, Confectionary Shop and a Ryokan in Kyoto which shows elements of Japanese culture from food to traditions.
I love the attention to detail shown, especially when it comes to food, how they decorate, choose the right color utensils to complement the food to make it look like an aesthetically pleasing and appetizing dish for the customers, plus the right type and amount of ingredients that make the customers crave for more.
The kimono and yukata they wear in the show are so beautiful and elaborate. And the places they went in Kyoto are equally beautiful.
1. The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House (2023)

It's about two best friends Kiyo and Sumire from the northern Aomori who dreams of becoming Geisha that they go to Gion, Kyoto to train to be one while living in the all-female house of fellow Maiko (Geisha in training) and Geisha themselves.
Although Sumire has the right temperament to be a Geisha, Kiyo doesn't but she found her calling as a Cook instead and is more than eager to share her love of cooking with them. As they discover how unique and tasty her food really are!
2. Kyoto Love Story (2023)

It's about three sisters living in a 450 year old traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Kyoto. Hina, the eldest, Arare, the second sister and Hana, the youngest. They live with their mother who wants one of her daughters to take over the business, which causes conflict.
To make it worse, the two sisters, Hina and Arare got entangled in a love triangle with an employee of the shop, who the mother have been eyeing, to marry him to the daughter that would succeed the shop. While Hana, the youngest is caught in the crossfire.
3. Kamo, Kyoto e Iku (2023)
Tumblr media
A story of a career woman named, Kamo. Named after Kamo River by her mother who runs a Ryokan in Kyoto. Kamo despises everything traditional as restricting and works as a finance executive in Tokyo, with the Ministry of Finance.
