USJ Incident: Why it Should've Worked, (with fun gifs to space out the text!)

TLTR: All Might would've been ripped in half if Shoto, Bakugo, and Kirishima hadn't shown up. Nobody can plan for those fighty little monsters. And, despite the whiny tone, Shigaraki not childish to want to leave at first when there was no All Might and Tenya ran to get help, because his point was proved when the teachers arrived and he got shot instantly.

Okay, hear me out here folks. ~takes a deep breath~ It should've worked.

Honestly, ya'll, with the target being All Might, Shigaraki's plan for the USJ had a decent chance. It was not a rushed plan. Right from the top, Shigaraki used the reporters as a distraction to steal the USJ schematics and the class schedule. He knew the layout and who to expect, and had a plan to deal with everyone.

He had Kurogiri to scatter the students and handle Hero 13, which Kurogiri did. A large mob to slow down Eraserhead and tie up students to keep them from interfere, which they (mostly) did. All Might, had he been there, was most likely to go straight for the leaders, aka Shigaraki and the nomu... which, when All Might did arrive, he did after saving Eraserhead.

What's more, All Might, when he did show up, ALMOST lost.

Kurogiri and the Nomu were about to rip him in half when Shoto, Bakugo, and Kirishima showed up. Honestly, 1-A has a bunch of fighty monsters for students, and that's not something ANYONE would expect from fifteen year olds in their first week of hero school!

People (and the show) give Shigaraki crap for wanting to leave when All Might isn't there, especially after Tenya escapes and goes for help, but why would he stay? 🙄 This is basic conservation of energy from the mind of a predator. He's in a high risk area, rescue is on the way, and his main target isn't there. His only loss would be the low-level villains, which are cannon fodder anyway. And he's right to want to run. The second the teachers do show up, he gets shot four times before they even finish their dramatic entrance. THREE TIMES.

So yeah, the plan was a very good for a first time villain debut. Flaws, sure, but the kid just barely turned twenty, give him a break.

The memory scene with Spinner:

is not Shigaraki's first meeting Spinner. It's the memory of Spinner yelling at Shigaraki at the start of My Villain Academia, in Chapter 220.

Same exact words. In the same exact font and layout too.

I think it would be hilarious if there was a My Hero Academia game but Shigaraki is the 'helpful' UI. Fully voiced. The gameplay is 30% listening to him bitch about how bad you are at playing the game instead of teaching you how it works. He doesn't give you time to learn anything in the tutorial fights. He will give you wrong advice on purpose. He will give you correct advice to mislead you into distrusting him and making you do the opposite. He rearranges the UI layout and meddles with the gameplay if he's bored. He's like the Narrator in the Stanley Parable and the narrator from There Is No Game but make it a dusty, disgruntled villain who can't believe you fucked up that combo, you useless level one dungeon goblin, have you never pressed buttons before.

On the upside, he always lets you pet the dog.

About the unfairness of Volume Covers.

Ngl, I was so optimistic. All other final arc covers have been absolute bangers! Look at the Deku-Shigaraki one, or the BkDk one, they're sooo good! Plus, if we had, DkSk, DabiShouto, then why didn't we get a TogaChako? Like seriously? Was Toga that important that they decided to give her a solo cover when it could easily have been a TogaChako battle cover just to complete the Trilogy? Heck, this could have been a battle cover and no one would have a single complaint....

Why is that, when it comes to Volume covers, Ochako gets the most shit treatment? Like she could have easily been a part of a lot of covers, and she could easily have gotten at least one solo Volume Cover but nope! 400+ chapters and not a single Ochako dedicated cover making her the only MC in MHA to not have a single volume cover.

Heck, even Toga, her antagonist got one but not Ochako.

Heck, even Star and Stripes got one but not our main female lead.

Heck, even Lady Nagant got one but not Ochako.

What's worse is that it's not even bad contextually but it's just soo random that it feels like a total disrespect to the amazing TogaChako arc that this volume covered.

When, I saw the TogaChako colour page, I knew we weren't getting a TogaChako battle cover, plus it also had the Todoroki family drama, and Todoroki is Hori's favourite, so he had to be included somehow, despite already getting his cover in vol 36. But seriously this is so unfair.

If we count it chapter by chapter, TogaChako arc covers 5 CHAPTERS, i.e. 391 to ch 395 making it the CENTRAL arc for volume 39!! And not only that, her Quirk Awakening happened in this Volume!! She literally saved everyone's ass in the GUNGA battlefield!! (Yeah, she did that, it's not even an argument)

When Bakugo got an awakening, he got a solo cover. When Todoroki got an origins chapter, he got a solo cover. Then why not Ochako? The main trio literally appears in almost every other cover, then why not the same respect be extended to the main female lead?

Why is the unjust only to Ochako. It's not even the first time, this is happening. It happened in vol 22 too, when she saved Deku from BlackWhip in season 5 and Everyone was on cover, excluding her.

Why? Because after the layout, Hori decided it looks better without her. What a shame.

Her own solo cover, is way overdue and what's worse is that since the series is on the verge of end, we will NEVER get a solo cover for her. All hope is lost.

And that's sad because Ochako is such a good character! And when people like SnS, Lady Nagant and even Mirio get a solo cover, then why not her?

I wasn't this angry with vol 33, because the art was phenomenal...Ochako was looking absolutely stunning!! The tears in her eyes, and the microphone in hands were the absolute highlight of that cover but this?

They have some weird flag in the bg, they're sitting on that golden throne that is supposed to represent Mech AM or something....plus unlike Izuku-Chako-Iida, these three people have NEVER had a single interaction in the entire manga!! Vol 33 was about a young hero who has been overburdened with responsibility and his two best friends fighting the world to save him but vol 39?

It's meh.

The muffled silence of the halls was an indication of the beast passing through the dormitory. With round ears twitching only slight through the blackened mane of his frame, did the returning King pass through corridors of excited proheros. His paws moved with slow ease, a bulk that swayed with tail end just a tough off the floor. A gait lazy, but everyone could see the muscle in its sandy pelt as he trod through the layout to find that room which smelt the best.

Nostrils flared only slight before his large frame turned to where he needed to be... When he stares down upon the yellow caterpillar of a man - the Lion could only rumble in pleased tones. Pushing his giant size deeper inside the room to close the door with a well aimed back paw. Free now to step over the slumbering man and block the window's sun just right before settling down and curling himself close to Aizawa.

His eyes large and amber, narrowed with the opening of his maw, stretching out all jowls and tongue before resting himself in for a deep sleep too. Squinting in the sunlight that felt delightful - his mind wandered little else besides this room now. Knowing that in the minutes of their sleep, Aizawa would rest like he's never had before as usual.

Aizawa could definitely sleep in bed, and had plenty a time but his sleeping bag allowed for easier exit and a clearer path to his kids should they need him. It also means he doesn't really rest fitfully because of everything that had been going on this years. Regardless, he snuggles deeper into his sleeping bag, letting the weighted coolness lull him into a light doze. And as the hour went on and there were no incidents, that light doze became something deeper though hypervigilance made sure he was still aware.

Some time passes, his phone stays silent and he's somehwat aware of the door to his room opening. Aware of the silent and deadly presence that brings him comfort. So he merely relaxes completely, letting Olu's warmth and presence lull him deeper into slumber. And it's a deep sleep, ones he usually avoids for personal reasons but it's dreamless, quiet….at first. But, of course it doesn't stay that way. Time isn't relative in a dream, it could have been hours but all he sees is darkness then colors begin to edge then flourish across a familiar landscape.

A hand reaching for Asui's face and he's too late and the disintigrating flesh blows with the wind and a low, pained sound escapes him. He's too late, his vision is shot and he's in pain. His elbow throbs with pain, it's like the first time it occur -- agonizing and he hates to grit his teeth so he doesn't cry out. The scene flashes then ends, and he's in the hospital. Brows furrow, a horrible teeth grinding sound and Aizawa doesn't really know what this scene in. Fingers twitch, entangling in the fabric of the sleeping bag, trying and failing to wake himself. Heart races, thudding painfully in his chest, breath heavy and shallow.

' You're so cool eraserhead.'

Bandaged gaze snaps to that familiar voice, and he realizes he's vulnerable like this. Fear cascades down his spine and he can feel the heat of that hand near his face, feel the way it darkens his proverbial doorstep before he's facing terror like he's never know. Because Shigaraki's hand is at his throat, both hands drawing upward toward his face before all ten fingers touch him. There's no sound, just the gentle, but labored breathing of the younger male and the gentle swoosh of Kurogiri's portal as it stays open. He isn't sure what finally startles him awake but he jerks awake with a silent gasp, sweat covering his features and quickly, jerkily unzipping it and gasping as he crawled away, on his hands and knees, blood from his palms smearing across the floor.

He can't fucking breathe. Logically, he knows that he can. He just needs to calm down but Aizawa also knows the beginning of this panic attack has him in it's throes. The smear of blood on the floor draws his attention and the sting of the cuts on his palm don't ground him but make even more sense to his terror-addled brain. His heart jumps in his chest, red gaze snapping to the lion who'd been curled around him, meeting amber gaze. There's safety in that gaze, some small, rational part of his brain is telling the teacher but he can't--- there's no rationality in his fear.

Like a feral cat with a sore paw, he moves to the other side of the room, keeping an eye on the lion, wanting to come closer and yet needing the space. He presses his back to the small couch, fingers spearing into his hair, shuddering breaths escaping him. More than twenty minutes have gone by and every sense is dialed to a ten still. ❝ ━…I,❞ Aizawa swallows thickly, hands tugging at the strands at the roots. ❝ ━ Come….please. I can't tell what's real. ❞ He's never been one to be this vulnerable but he needs it, terribly before he falls apart. ❝ ━ I'd come to you, but I don't think I can move without my legs buckling beneath me. ❞
