Feeling very insane about the fact that, in a way, being a bad Sharran is what saves Shadowheart in the end

Because like. She's not supposed to be bad at keeping secrets. She's not supposed to be vulnerable, kind, or hopeful. She's not supposed to get attached to anything or anyone

Yet, it's these things that allow her to get close to the pc and the group as a whole. The more she fails to keep Shar's secrets the more she opens up to you, and the more she opens up to you the more you have the chance to build a relationship with her, and it's through having that relationship that she finds the courage to defy Shar

If she had been a better Sharran she never would have built that bond at all, she wouldn't have felt safe to make the decision she did, and probably no one would have trusted her enough to let her decide to begin with

Shadowheart is saved because she is loved, and Shadowheart is loved because she cannot stop being herself no matter how hard she tries

the whole point the whole message of the show was loving after trauma, loss ect. finding happiness after hard times and that’s so beautiful?? Like tf

Kazuki lost his wife and unborn child on the same day and the only person he could think to blame was himself. after that he closed himself off, stopped communicating with most people and continued his life as an assassin because thats what he felt what he has committed to, he can’t go back now he’s too deep.

Rei had always been brought up to be an assassin, never feeling any love for care from anyone around him he was raised to be a stone cold killing machine. He didn’t think he deserved to be loved, he didn’t think HE could be loved

and then, after rei leaves his father to live on his own for a few years he meets Kazuki. Kazuki who moves in with him, cleaning him up and helps him heal, the best he can. And for a time, it’s enough. They both know it’s temporary but it’s not the lowest they’ve been but not the best.

and then, after an unforeseen hitch is thrown into one of their jobs, Miri is brought in their lives. so pure and innocent Kazuki can’t bring himself to leave her alone without leaving her with her mother.

Rei eventually realizes that he wants to be for Miri what his dad wasn’t for him. He wants to do better, he wants to BE more for her.

Kazuki realizes that Miris mother can’t care for her as Rei and Him can, and even though her upbringing may not be the greatest they are willing to try, for her. So they take her in, ready to be the best they can be despite themselves.

and then kazuki moved on from his wife’s death, he understands what she would’ve wanted for him. To be happy, even if that means without her.

kazuki realizes what makes him happy, loving Miri and Rei

Rei revisits HIS past, despite not wanting to interact with his father he does. which ends in a assassination of his old mentor because he betrayed the organization for his wife. this leads to many conflicting feelings for rei but he moves forward, with kazukis help of course

THEY move forward as a family, Kazuki and Rei are learning how to be good parents for Miri.

then, miris mother returns asking for miri back in her final years (??) of life. She knows about Kazuki and reis employment and despite loving and caring for Miri, they let her go. it’s for her own good.

then, miris mom dies and rei leaves the organization severely injuring his arm in order to insure he is of no use to his father. he is willing to abandon his life for his family, his REAL family who he loves and who loves him

and then, they heal as a family. rei and Kazuki open a diner together and miri is given as normal of a life and she can

"Valerie, please, I need you," Danny croaked, flopping down on the couch next to her.

"What you need is to stop talking and give your throat a rest," Valerie said, not looking up from her book. "You're not going to recover if you keep straining yourself."

"I'm never going to recover end of sentence. This is the end for me," Danny whined.

"You got thrown through walls on the daily back in high school." Valerie flipped to the next page. "You always recovered just fine then. You can handle a cold."

"I'm dying, Val!" Danny inched his way closer, forcing his way between her lap and the book. "I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's almost as beautiful as you."

"You're already dead, dipshit. You aren't going to end up any more dead."

Danny turned over to look up at Val. "If only there was a gorgeous young woman who would give me CPR, to bring me back to life."

Valerie closed her book slowly, laying it on the couch next to her. Danny puckered as she leaned down ever so slightly, before she stood up, throwing Danny to the floor.

"Hey!" he yelped, wincing at the stab of pain it elicited from his sore throat. "What was that for?"

"I don't want your germs, Danny," Valerie said. She stepped over Danny, who was still laying in the same position he'd fallen in.

"I can't believe I've been betrayed by my own wife!" Danny said. "Wasn't there a clause in that whole speech about in sickness and in health?"

"Yea, followed immediately by until death do us part. Once again, you're already dead," Valerie said without turning around.

"And here I thought you'd accepted my ghostliness," Danny grumbled.

Valerie laughed. "How about I make it up to you? The chicken soup is almost done. I'll bring you a nice big bowl and you can put on one of those space documentaries. Will that do the trick?"

Danny righted himself, moving back to the chair where his blanket lay, discarded. "That will do just fine."

Their gaze stays on the ground, picking a spot to fixate on, and then the next, and the next, and the next. They cannot afford otherwise, cannot afford more than barely listening to the doctor as he speaks ever so softly. Cannot afford more than a slight wince at the needle stabbing their flesh, cannot move, cannot stop their thoughts, for that would leave an opening.

It is sudden, the hand on their arm, grip tighter, rougher than anything the doctor has done so far, and the man has hurt them already. They barely manage to remember.

“Word spreads awfully quick, doesn't it?”, he says, but he does not say it's a rumor, and that might as well be confirming it. The fact that he doesn't seem to care is unnerving. “There really is no use fighting it this much.”

They don't know if it's the phrasing of that, or the tone, or that he's still grabbing them, but they look. They lift their head and stare directly at him, and open their mouth, giving up on their attempt to not snap.

They feel it, before being able to say anything. They feel it, as soon as they realize the doctor is also staring at them.

They want to scream, to curse at him. They want to fight, in any animalistic way they can manage, dignity be damned, there is no place for that in this Hell, there never was. Yet their body locks in place, and by the time they remember that about not leaving any gaps between their thoughts, it's far too late. The feeling of something — something prying open their mind, slowly making its way in between their thoughts, not stopping even as they try, try, try to fight.

And it crawls in their head, pulls at their nerves, makes the back of their eyes burn and yet doesn't allow them to close them, to even fully blink.

No, they're doing that by themselves. It wouldn't matter, at this point — the thought finishes, and they realize it is not theirs.

As if anything is, now.

It settles in, pushing everything else out — all but the fear, if it isn't fear itself, and dread, and desperation. It, no, he, for that has to be part of the man staring at him, if he can be called just a man. And they realize, as it shifts yet again, pulling on old memories that flash and decompose behind their eyes, that if he wanted to, their entire mind would have collapsed already. Nothing left but whatever has managed to make a nest in their brain. And they realize they don't know why it hasn't done so.

They finally can manage to blink, their ears ringing with the man's laughter. They don't know if they're actually hearing it, or if it's still inside their mind.

“Wouldn't be a proper experiment if I fully broke you now, would it?”

They attempt to speak again, and something begins stirring in their head.

Peculiar Headcanon for Laughing Jack

Old man, terribly confused by and yet completely enthralled by The Moomins. Does not get it, will watch for hours if left unchecked. Both terrified and comforted by the quietness and the art. Plays it at his replacement naptime which he absolutely has despite not needing sleep per se.

I just think that he definitely absolutely needs like emotional and mental rests because technically he never learned emotional regulation because his best friend who he was developmentally attached to never did. Biiig emotions literally has no idea what to do with them. Solution? Moomins. Enrichment in the enclosure as the youth say.

The struggle of talking about your favorite fictional characters depth because no one in the tiny ass fandom that exists gives him the proper analysis he deserves and you rotated him enough in your head that you have detailed opinions about his character arc but making essays are REALLY fucking hard so the only thing you can shove to peoples faces is random incoherent rambles about one very specific scene or just pointing to your ao3 where you’ve written in depth character fics about him but aren’t canon complaint whatsoever since it’s “what if he actually addressed his trauma, got help and it lead to a happier ending for him than canon?” which feels like it contradicts aspect of why him getting doomed by the narrative is so appealing to begin with but you cry like a bitch remembering what happens to him that you need to cope like every other fandom.

…My conclusion is I fucking hate Ryoma Nagare for ruining my life. /s
